The present work represents the wear of contact systems (tribosystems) in boundary lubrication mode during reversible reciprocating motion. The investigated tribosystems are composed of non-standardized hypereutectic aluminium-silicon alloys. The samples, involved in the friction pairs, are from the alloys AlSi
21 Cu3 CrMn, AlSi25 Cu4 Cr and AlSi25 Cu5 Cr, and the counterbodies have the compositions AlSi21 Cu5 MgCr and AlSi21 Cu5 Cr. The investigated alloys were modified with P and subjected to T6 heat treatment. Artificial aging was carried out under different parameters (temperature and holding time). Results were obtained for mass wear, wear rate and wear resistance of each sample, counterbody and overall for the tribosystem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The present work represents the wear of contact systems (tribosystems) composed of non-standardized aluminium-silicon alloys in the boundary lubrication mode during reversible reciprocating motion. The studied samples are made of alloys with hypereutectic composition (AlSi21Cu3CrMn, AlSi25Cu4Cr, AlSi25Cu5Cr), and the counterbodies are complex alloyed eutectic alloys (AlSi12Cu5MgCr, Al- Si12Cu5Mn). The hypereutectic alloys are modified by P, the AlSi12Cu5MgCr alloy is complex modified by Be, Ti, B and P, and the AlSi12Cu5Mn alloy with Ti, B and Sr. The alloys were subjected to T6 heat treatment at different time-temperature regimes of artificial aging. Results were obtained for mass wear, wear rate and wear resistance of each specimen, counterbody and overall for the tribo-system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Significance\ud \ud Communicating in ways that motivate engagement in social distancing remains a critical global public health priority during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study tested motivational qualities of messages about social distancing (those that promoted choice and agency vs. those that were forceful and shaming) in 25,718 people in 89 countries. The autonomy-supportive message decreased feelings of defying social distancing recommendations relative to the controlling message, and the controlling message increased controlled motivation, a less effective form of motivation, relative to no message. Message type did not impact intentions to socially distance, but people’s existing motivations were related to intentions. Findings were generalizable across a geographically diverse sample and may inform public health communication strategies in this and future global health emergencies.\ud \ud \ud \ud Abstract\ud \ud Finding communication strategies that effectively motivate social distancing continues to be a global public health priority during the COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-country, preregistered experiment (n = 25,718 from 89 countries) tested hypotheses concerning generalizable positive and negative outcomes of social distancing messages that promoted personal agency and reflective choices (i.e., an autonomy-supportive message) or were restrictive and shaming (i.e., a controlling message) compared with no message at all. Results partially supported experimental hypotheses in that the controlling message increased controlled motivation (a poorly internalized form of motivation relying on shame, guilt, and fear of social consequences) relative to no message. On the other hand, the autonomy-supportive message lowered feelings of defiance compared with the controlling message, but the controlling message did not differ from receiving no message at all. Unexpectedly, messages did not influence autonomous motivation (a highly internalized form of motivation relying on one’s core values) or behavioral intentions. Results supported hypothesized associations between people’s existing autonomous and controlled motivations and self-reported behavioral intentions to engage in social distancing. Controlled motivation was associated with more defiance and less long-term behavioral intention to engage in social distancing, whereas autonomous motivation was associated with less defiance and more short- and long-term intentions to social distance. Overall, this work highlights the potential harm of using shaming and pressuring language in public health communication, with implications for the current and future global health challenges.

The study was carried out in the Experimental field of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding-Agricultural University, Plovdiv during the period 2009-2011. New breeding lines were investigated using block design with 4 replications and 20 m2 plot size. The aim of the investigation was to estimate barley lines by yield, stability and some important traits, using Obzor as a standard. Applying biometrical and cluster analysis and index of yield stability, it has been established that some breeding lines: numbers 21411003, 21401409 and 21001008, respectively, had better traits in comparison with the standard cultivar "Obzor" as well as stable yields regardless of differences in the climatic conditions over the years. These lines can be certified as new cultivars according to the government's requirements for cultivar testing.

The main goal of the present paper was to study the possibilities for application of herbicides during vegetation of cape gooseberry. Herbicides Afalon 100 and 150 ml/da and Agil 85 and 150 ml/da were applied at the moment of the beginning of bud formation on the Plovdiv variety. The control was not treated, but it was hoed. Twenty days later, species, number and weight of weeds; number of dead cape gooseberry plants; weight, diameter and length of fruits (in botanical maturity) were investigated. Productivity and chemical components were determined. The highest effectiveness, lowest weed number and weight were observed when using Afalon 150 ml/da which controls annual dicotyledon weeds. Total weeds weight decreased mainly due to Afalon. The highest percentage of dead plants was established after application of 150 ml/da Afalon. The highest productivity was established in control. Investigated herbicides, Afalon and Agil, did not demonstrate satisfactory selectivity in cape gooseberry.

Contains fulltext : 284232.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) The COVID-19 pandemic (and its aftermath) highlights a critical need to communicate health information effectively to the global public. Given that subtle differences in information framing can have meaningful effects on behavior, behavioral science research highlights a pressing question: Is it more effective to frame COVID-19 health messages in terms of potential losses (e.g., "If you do not practice these steps, you can endanger yourself and others") or potential gains (e.g., "If you practice these steps, you can protect yourself and others")? Collecting data in 48 languages from 15,929 participants in 84 countries, we experimentally tested the effects of message framing on COVID-19-related judgments, intentions, and feelings. Loss- (vs. gain-) framed messages increased self-reported anxiety among participants cross-nationally with little-to-no impact on policy attitudes, behavioral intentions, or information seeking relevant to pandemic risks. These results were consistent across 84 countries, three variations of the message framing wording, and 560 data processing and analytic choices. Thus, results provide an empirical answer to a global communication question and highlight the emotional toll of loss-framed messages. Critically, this work demonstrates the importance of considering unintended affective consequences when evaluating nudge-style interventions. 26 p.

Aluminium-silicon alloys with eutectic and hypereutectic composition have been interfused with copper and magnesium. The alloys AlSi11Cu5Mg and Al-Si18Cu5Mg have been complexly modified. The complex modifying treatment with P, Ti, B and Be aims not only at modifying the structural components of the alloys, but also at creating conditions, conductive to formation and separation of the strengthening phases. The studied silumins have been subjected to T6 heat treatment, consisting in hardening and artificial ageing. The tensile strength of the tested compositions has been determined at high temperatures - 200°C, 250°C and 300°C. Evaluation of the obtained results has been made. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The non-standard hypereutectic aluminium-silicon alloys AlSi18Cu3CrMn and AlSi25Cu3Cr have been modified with phosphorus. The alloys have also been heat treated by hardening and artificial ageing - T6. The structure of the alloys before the heat treatment has been studied. High-temperature tests have been performed at 200°C, 250°C and 300°C to determine the tensile strength of the studied compositions. The influence of both used alloying elements and the mode of heat treatment on the behaviour of the alloys during the tests has been discussed. Comparative analysis of the obtained results has been made. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Alloy AlSi
18 has been interfused with Cu, Cr and Mn. It has been established that the combination of the three alloying elements has a modifying effect on the structure of the alloy. Both the primary silicon crystals and the silicon crystals in the eutectic composition become refined. The mechanical properties of the alloy are improved. The primary and eutectic silicon crystals in the structure of the alloy, modified with P, have the smallest dimensions. The alloy, interfused and modified this way, has the highest values of Rm and HB. The obtained results are a prerequisite for the use of AlSi18 Cu3 CrMn alloy in friction pairs in the automotive industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The following combinations of modifiers - Ti and B; Be, Ti and B; P, Ti and B - have been used to modify the aluminum-silicon alloy AlSi
18 Cu5 Mg within this study with the aim to refine both the primary and eutectic silicon crystals in the alloy structure. This implies an increase in the strength and hardness, as well as in the wear resistance of the studied composition. The combination of the modifiers P, Ti and B has been found out to have the best effect on the structure and the strength characteristics of the AlSi18 Cu5 Mg alloy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

This thesis demonstrates that consumer leverage can contribute to financial crises such as the subprime mortgage crisis characterised by increased bankruptcy prospects and tightened credit access. A recession may follow even when the leveraged sector is not a production sector and can be triggered by seeming positive events such as a technological innovation and a relaxation of borrowing conditions. The first preliminary chapter updates the Bernanke, Gertler and Gilchrist (1999) approach with financial frictions in the production sector to a two-sector model with consumption and housing. It shows that credit frictions in the capital financing decisions of housing firms are not sufficient to capture the negative consumer experience with falling housing prices and relaxed credit access during the recession. The second chapter brings the model closer to the subprime mortgage crisis by shifting credit constraints to the consumer mortgage market. Increased supply of houses lowers asset prices and reduces the value of the real estate collateral used in the mortgage which in turn worsens the leverage of indebted consumers. A relaxation of borrowing conditions turns credit-constrained households into a potential source of disturbances themselves when market optimism allows them to raise their leverage with little downpayment. Both cases demonstrate that although households are not production agents, their worsening debt levels can trigger a lasting financial downturn. The third chapter develops a chained mortgage contracts model where both homeowner consumers and the financial institutions that securitize their mortgage loan are credit-constrained. Adding credit constraints to the financial sector that provides housing mortgages creates opportunities for risk sharing where banks shift some of the downturn onto indebted consumers in order to hasten their own recovery. This consequence is especially evident in the case of relaxed credit access for banks. Financial institutions repair their debt position relatively fast at the expense of consumers whose borrowing ability is squeezed for a long period despite the fact that they may not be the source of the disturbance. The result mirrors the recent subprime mortgage crisis characterised by a sharp but brief decline for banks and a protracted recovery for mortgaged households.

BACKGROUND The safe and appropriate use of long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs) for the treatment of asthma has been widely debated. In two large clinical trials, investigators found a potential risk of serious asthma-related events associated with LABAs. This study was designed to evaluate the risk of administering the LABA salmeterol in combination with an inhaled glucocorticoid, fluticasone propionate. METHODS In this multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial, adolescent and adult patients (age, ≥12 years) with persistent asthma were assigned to receive either fluticasone with salmeterol or fluticasone alone for 26 weeks. All the patients had a history of a severe asthma exacerbation in the year before randomization but not during the previous month. Patients were excluded from the trial if they had a history of lifethreatening or unstable asthma. The primary safety end point was the first serious asthma-related event (death, endotracheal intubation, or hospitalization). Noninferiority of fluticasone–salmeterol to fluticasone alone was defined as an upper boundary of the 95% confidence interval for the risk of the primary safety end point of less than 2.0. The efficacy end point was the first severe asthma exacerbation. RESULTS Of 11,679 patients who were enrolled, 67 had 74 serious asthma-related events, with 36 events in 34 patients in the fluticasone–salmeterol group and 38 events in 33 patients in the fluticasone-only group. The hazard ratio for a serious asthmarelated event in the fluticasone–salmeterol group was 1.03 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.64 to 1.66), and noninferiority was achieved (P = 0.003). There were no asthma-related deaths; 2 patients in the fluticasone-only group underwent asthmarelated intubation. The risk of a severe asthma exacerbation was 21% lower in the fluticasone–salmeterol group than in the fluticasone-only group (hazard ratio, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.70 to 0.89), with at least one severe asthma exacerbation occurring in 480 of 5834 patients (8%) in the fluticasone–salmeterol group, as compared with 597 of 5845 patients (10%) in the fluticasone-only group (P

Consumer leverage can generate financial crises characterized by increased bankruptcy, tightened credit access and reduced demand for goods. This paper embeds financial frictions in the mortgage contracts of homeowners within a two-sector economy to show that even at moderate initial levels, household indebtedness can create a lasting financial downturn such as the subprime mortgage crisis. Using two seemingly positive disturbances that triggered the subprime mortgage crisis - an increased housing supply and a relaxation of borrowing conditions - the model demonstrated that the subprime downturn was not a precedent but the natural consequence of financial frictions. The oversupply of houses lowers asset prices and reduces the value of the real estate collateral used in the mortgage. This worsens the leverage of indebted consumers and raised their bankruptcy prospects generating a pro-cyclical risk premium. A relaxation of borrowing conditions turns credit-constrained households into a potential source of disturbances themselves when market optimism allows them to overleverage with little downpayment. In both cases, the resulting excessive consumer leverage impairs household credit access for a lengthy after-shock period and diverts resources from their consumption. Their reduced demand for goods may propagate the downturn to the rest of the economy depressing output in other sectors. Adding credit constraints in the financial sector that provides housing mortgages deepens the negative impact of the shocks and makes recovery even more protracted.

Haemophilia A is an X-related inherited disturbance of haemostasis associated with the Factor VIII gene. The aim of our study was to determine the rate, the type and the severity of signs from the urinary tract and their dependence on disturbances in the Factor VІІІ gene. Twenty-one patients with Haemophilia A, aged 3 to 18, were studied. We used a combination of clinical laboratory investigations and changes in the urinary tract gene defects related to Haemophilia A. During the 5 years of investigation bleeding from the urinary tract was found in 23.8% of patients. The number of patients with haematuria was variable in this period. The duration of macroscopic haematuria was usually short. Urine changes were dynamic during the day. Big clots sometimes caused abdominal and lumbar-sacral pain. Apart from macro-and microscopic haematuria, we found also cases of proteinuria and leukocyturia. The analyses of the gene coding Factor VІІІ in patients with haemophilia A and haematuria showed five gene defects; renal function was usually preserved in all cases. We observed in all these defects cases of severe clinical form of Haemophilia A.

42. Functional antagonism between E2F family members.

- Abstract
E2F is a heterogenous transcription factor and its role in cell cycle control results from the integrated activities of many different E2F family members. Unlike mammalian cells, that have a large number of E2F-related genes, the Drosophila genome encodes just two E2F genes, de2f1 and de2f2. Here we show that de2f1 and de2f2 provide different elements of E2F regulation and that they have opposing functions during Drosophila development. dE2F1 and dE2F2 both heterodimerize with dDP and bind to the promoters of E2F-regulated genes in vivo. dE2F1 is a potent activator of transcription, and the loss of de2f1 results in the reduced expression of E2F-regulated genes. In contrast, dE2F2 represses the transcription of E2F reporters and the loss of de2f2 function results in increased and expanded patterns of gene expression. The loss of de2f1 function has previously been reported to compromise cell proliferation. de2f1 mutant embryos have reduced expression of E2F-regulated genes, low levels of DNA synthesis, and hatch to give slow-growing larvae. We find that these defects are due in large part to the unchecked activity of dE2F2, since they can be suppressed by mutation of de2f2. Examination of eye discs from de2f1; de2f2 double-mutant animals reveals that relatively normal patterns of DNA synthesis can occur in the absence of both E2F proteins. This study shows how repressor and activator E2Fs are used to pattern transcription and how the net effect of E2F on cell proliferation results from the interplay between two types of E2F complexes that have antagonistic functions.

Five winter feed barley varieties were tested at the experimental field of the Institute of Agriculture-Kamobat over a six-year period to assess their yield potential and stability. Varieties Bozhin and Iz Bori are new varieties and Vesletc, Izgrev and Aheloj 2 are widely grown feed barley varieties in Bulgaria. Stability parameters were estimated by the model of Lin and Binns (1988) and G GE biplot methodology was used for graphical display of yield data. According to the results, genotype x environment interactions for grain yield was highly significant indicating genetic variability between genotypes by changing environment. Average grain yield of varieties in six-year trail ranged from 5.13 t/ha (Vesletc) to 5. 78 t/ha (Bozhin). High yield combined with high stability was demonstrated by new varieties Bozhin end Iz Bori. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic (and its aftermath) highlights a critical need to communicate health information effectively to the global public. Given that subtle differences in information framing can have meaningful effects on behavior, behavioral science research highlights a pressing question: Is it more effective to frame COVID-19 health messages in terms of potential losses (e.g., “If you do not practice these steps, you can endanger yourself and others”) or potential gains (e.g., “If you practice these steps, you can protect yourself and others”)?
