With the development of technology allowing for a rapid expansion of data science and machine learning in our everyday lives, a significant gap is forming in the global job market where the demand for qualified workers in these fields cannot be properly satisfied. This worrying trend calls for an immediate action in education, where these skills must be taught to students at all levels in an efficient and up-to-date manner. This paper gives an overview of the current state of data science and machine learning education globally and both at the high school and university levels, while outlining some illustrative and positive examples. Special focus is given to vocational education and training (VET), where the teaching of these skills is at its very beginning. Also presented and analysed are survey results concerning VET students in Slovenia, Serbia, and North Macedonia, and their knowledge, interests, and prerequisites regarding data science and machine learning. These results confirm the need for development of efficient and accessible curricula and courses on these subjects in vocational schools.

A reversed - phase HPLC method with UV detection for determination of chlorhexidine in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) was optimized and validated, using chlorpheniramine as an internal standard. The chromatographic separation was performed on Discovery C18 HPLC column with 0.01 mol L-1 phosphate buffer (pH=3.0), triethylamine and acetonitrile (66:1:33, V/V/V), as mobile phase. Under the optimized HPLC conditions, linearity was obtained in the range of 0.5-5.0 μg mL-1 with LOD 0.07 μg mL-1 and LLOQ 0.5 μg mL-1. The described method can be successfully applied for determination of chlorhexidine concentrations in GCF obtained from patients with chronic periodontal disease treated with PerioChipTM.

The treatment or the resocialization is the most important part of the prison sentence which methods can be individual and group. Motivated inmates and less resistance for the treatment are the main precondition for effective treatment. Appropriate behavior of personnel is the main factor for that result. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) as the most effective evidence based psychotherapy approach for offender population is a type for inmate treatment. CBT is a result of Aaron Beck pioneering work in the 1960s. CBT model is based on the triangle relationships between cognition, emotions and behavior. The cognition is defined as a product of the three levels: cognitive schemas, negative automatic thoughts and dysfunctional thinking or thinking errors. The inventory of risk, need and strengths (IORNS), an risk assessment instrument, based on Risk, need and responsivity (RNR) model, was used for selection of (N=27) inmates and CBT treatment pilot program final evaluation, in Macedonian prison Bitola. The evaluation was done by comparing pre and post test measures in (N=12) male inmates, as optimal number for group psychotherapy treatment. According to the RNR model the treatment program needs to be oriented to the inmates needs. Implementing CBT treatment program for group psychotherapy and IORNS as short screening tool in Macedonian prisons was the aim of the project supported by the Council of Europe in this work. The results showed significant lower Procriminal attitudes but higher Aggression because of higher Aggressive behavior in the post measures. Results and instrument can be used in next CBT programs evaluations for better rehabilitation of prison inmates and reducing recidivism.

Carney Complex (CNC) is a rare syndrome characterized by spotty skin pigmentation and multiple neoplasms, notably cardiac myxomas, schwannomas, and endocrine tumours. It is often inherited in an autosomal dominant manner with PRKAR1A gene mutations found in the majority of cases. Male infertility is established as part of the CNC phenotype and is largely associated with Large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumours (LCCSCT). We describe a case of a 30-year-old male patient with Carney Complex, presenting with severe oligoasthenozoospermia and primary pigmented nodular adrenocortical disease (PPNAD). During follow-up consults, the severe oligozoospermia and impaired semen motility persisted and the patient was also diagnosed with a recurring cardiac myxoma and LCCSCT. Molecular testing identified a novel PRKAR1A mutation involving a deletion of exons 4 to 7. Our findings suggest this mutation causes PRKAR1A haploinsufficiency, which may be directly linked to male infertility, irrespective of the presence of testicular tumours. Accordingly, in male patients with CNC, detection of a PRKAR1A gene mutation may serve as a predictive marker for infertility. This case report illustrates the importance of early consideration and management of infertility in male patients diagnosed with CNC.

In the last decade, the most investigated perovskite materials are the hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) due to their optoelectronic properties and possible application in the production of photovoltaics. This interest has led to an ongoing search for new HOIP variants, alongside thorough investigations of the properties of existing HOIPs. That is why our research in the field of organic-inorganic perovskites is aimed at the synthesis, characterization, and investigation of the electrochemical properties of dimethylammonium lead iodide (DMAPbI3) using voltammetric studies. A modified synthesis of DMAPbI3, differing slightly from the one described in the literature, was performed by combining stoichiometric amounts of lead iodide (PbI2) and dimethylammonium iodide (DMAI) dissolved in acetonitrile. After conducting controlled evaporation, a yellow crystalline powder of DMAPbI3 was obtained. The identity and purity of the obtained compound were confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Investigations on the electrochemical properties of DMAPbI3 by cyclic voltammetry were performed with dichloromethane (DCM) and tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBAC) as the electrolyte. A paraffin-impregnated graphite electrode (PIGE) was used as a working electrode, on which the perovskite microparticles were immobilized. The electrochemical activity of DMAPbI3 is recognized through an intense, broad, and irreversible anodic peak attributed to the oxidation of the constituents to different possible products and the decomposition of the perovskite structure.

Sexual development (SD) is a complex process with strict spatiotemporal regulation of gene expression. Despite advancements in molecular diagnostics, disorders of sexual development (DSD) have a diagnostic rate of ~50%. Androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) represents the most common form of 46,XY DSD, with a spectrum of defects in androgen action. Considering the importance of very strict regulation of the SD, it is reasonable to assume that the genetic cause for proportion of the DSD lies in the non-coding part of the genome that regulates proper gene functioning. Here we present a patient with partial AIS (PAIS) due to a mosaic de novo c.-547C>T pathogenic variant in the 5′UTR of androgen receptor (AR) gene. The same mutation was previously described as inherited, in two unrelated patients with complete AIS (CAIS). Thus, our case further confirms the previous findings that variable gene expressivity could be attributed to mosaicism. Mutations in 5′UTR could create new upstream open reading frames (uORFs) or could disrupt the existing one. A recent systematic genome-wide study identified AR as a member of a subset of genes where modifications of uORFs represents an important disease mechanism. Only a small number of studies are reporting non-coding mutations in the AR gene and our case emphasizes the importance of molecular testing of the entire AR locus in AIS patients. The introduction of new methods for comprehensive molecular testing in routine genetic diagnosis, accompanied with new tools for in sillico analysis could improve the genetic diagnosis of AIS, and DSD in general.

Movement is an essential characteristic that has developed over the course of human evolution. With the inclusion of various populations in sports activities, sports have become an important part of people’s daily lives. Knee injuries are common among athletes, with knee joint being the most vulnerable to various injuries. Knee injuries require appropriate treatment to allow the athlete to return to their sports activities. Additionally, this study aimed to increase awareness of the importance of preventing knee injuries in sports and to highlight the potential impact of such injuries on an athlete’s ability to participate in their sport. A cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate the functional outcomes of athletes with knee injuries. The study included 38 patients with knee injuries (ACL, meniscal injuries, collateral ligament injuries) out of which 21 were physically active athletes, 9 were not, but they were athletes who were not involved in sports at the time of the testing and 8 were recreational athletes. The majority of respondents (76%) reported that they sustained the injury during sports activities. Knee pain was reported as at least once a week by most respondents. The study highlights the importance of proper knee injury prevention measures during sports activities and the need for prompt and effective rehabilitation for those who do suffer injuries. Overall, these findings have important implications for the treatment and management of knee injuries among athletes and individuals seeking to maintain an active lifestyle.

The Macedonian election rules, i.e. the setting of the electoral system, produce a double effect, an effect on the voter, and an effect on the party system. Therefore, each change in the electoral regulations would not only alter the voters’ comportment but also impact the political parties. Considering these effects, the paper aimed to compare the attitudes of the citizens and political parties regarding the electoral legislature (both for the parliamentary and local elections); and produce adequate electoral solutions as a corrective for the detected shortcomings of the current regulations. The paper relied on content analysis of theoretical literature and research, empirical qualitative research based on citizens’ focus groups from each region in Macedonia, questioned political parties, and additional data analysis. The ultimate findings propose a way to promote the equal value of each vote, proportional regional representation, and MPs' accountability at the parliamentary elections. For the local elections, the proposed solution referred to reducing the election cost, the possibility of political bargaining, and preserving the legitimacy of elected mayors.

The patient initially consulted due to infertility, which led to extensive investigations and diagnosis of several type of tumours: Primary pigmented nodular adrenocortical disease (PPNAD) in the adrenal glands, a cardiac myxoma, and Large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumours (LCCSCT) in the testes - all tumours are characteristic features of CNC. Notably, genetic testing revealed a novel mutation in the PRKAR1A gene. Through this case, we highlight how this genetic mutation might cause PRKAR1A haploinsufficiency and be solely responsible for infertility in CNC irrespective of testicular tumours, providing valuable insights into a condition where male infertility is rarely documented. In this study, two different ethanol-based RP-HPLC methods for assay and quantification of rivaroxaban related substances in tablets were developed, based on green analytical chemistry (GAC) principles, using the design of experiments approach. The chromatographic separation was performed on X-Bridge C18 column (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 µm particle size), using isocratic elution with ethanol : water (35:65, % v/v) for the assay and gradient elution with ethanol/water mobile phase, for related substances, with a flow rate of 1.0 mL min−1. The gradient method was optimized for the separation of three specified impurities (impurity G, impurity H, and impurity 14) and the selectivity was further confirmed using forced degradation studies. Both methods were validated in accordance with ICH guidelines. The robustness of the methods was confirmed with the Central Composite Face Design of Experiments. Analytical Eco-scale approach and AGREE metrics confirmed that both methods are in accordance with the GAC principles. The proposed ethanol-based RP-HPLC methods were applied for assay and determination of related substances in rivaroxaban 10 mg tablets obtained from three different manufacturers available on the Macedonian market. Cheese whey is the most polluting by -product of the dairy industry, and whey use has been the subject of much research; however, the conversion of liquid whey into value -added yogurt products is insufficient. The aim of the current research is to study the effect of fermentation of a milk -liquid whey mixture into yogurt and strawberry supplementation on the syneresis index and textural and organoleptic characteristics during cold storage. For yogurt preparation, 25% liquid whey was substituted with the milk used for yogurt production, and after the fermentation process was complete, strawberry supplementation (12%). Results show that by using liquid whey in yogurt formulation, the syneresis index increased, whereas for texture properties, higher mean values of cohesiveness and springiness and lower values for hardness, adhesiveness, and gumminess were found. The time of storage also had a significant impact on the yogurt properties, and as the time of storage increased, the syneresis index increased and sensory scores reduced noticeably. The level of whey separation was significantly increased in yogurt samples containing liquid whey on the last day of storage, according to an evaluation of yogurt qualities (P<0.01). The results showed that although adding liquid whey into the yogurt production decreased the sensory characteristics (consistency and taste scores), yogurt with liquid whey and strawberry supplementation had an acceptable sensory score. Therefore, the use of liquid whey in the production of functional yogurt enables its reintroduction in the food supply chain and enhances sustainability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the current state and future perspectives of meat production in Republic of North Macedonia. The authors analyzed the volume of meat production (tons) by type (beef, pork, poultry, etc.), exploring production levels and market share for each type. Market capacity is assessed using time series data on domestic production and import volumes (disaggregated by meat type and total). Trends over time are investigated through chain and base index calculations. Finally, the triple exponential smoothing method implemented in Excel software is employed to forecast future meat production trends in North Macedonia. Pork meat production increases in total meat production from around 35% in the period 2000–2010, up to the record levels of over 63% in 2020 and 2021. This suggests pork became the dominant meat in North Macedonia during this period. The share of beef meet production decreases from 23.6% in 2001, to 16.5%-18.5% in the last three years. Share of sheep meat production had an increase in the first decade of analyzed period reaching nearly 29.4% in 2011, but has decreased on around 13.5% -16.7% in the last decade. The share of poultry meat production in the analyzed period has decreased from 11.2% in 2004, up to 8.1% in 2022. Additionally, the forecasts will offer valuable information for stakeholders regarding potential future directions and growth prospects within the industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Happiness as a complex combination of individual, collective, affective, rational, and circumstantial constituents is either integrated or should be integrated in the policy-making of modern states and societies, in line with the global endeavor towards achieving sustainable development goals. Given the social relevance of happiness, the most broadly accepted relevant indicators for its attainment, and the great gap that exists due to insufficient empirical treatment of the matter in North Macedonia, this exploratory paper aims to determine the impact of age, gender, health, unemployment, religion, ethnicity (by spoken language), and language-based discrimination on individual happiness in the Republic of North Macedonia. The research was based on descriptive statistical operations and regression analysis of the ESS 10 data regarding the Republic of North Macedonia, obtained for the first time for this country; as well as on secondary analysis of studies considering wide-range surveys, statistical data and reports. Health, employment, ethnicity, and ethnic and linguistic discrimination represent strong determinants of happiness in this country. Indications are high that age and happiness are linearly correlated. The gender is less important in defining happiness in North Macedonia; however, women are slightly happier than men. The majority population, speaking the Macedonian language and practicing Orthodox Christianity, experience higher levels of happiness than the linguistic and religious native minorities in North Macedonia. Further in-depth research based on consistent and compatible data is needed, to the end of advancing researchbased policies in the social, economic and healthcare systems of this county. Cet article propose une réflexion sur les stratégies locales pour les langues vivantes qui peuvent être développées dans des institutions éducatives et/ou municipalités pour renforcer l’apprentissage des langues et augmenter la qualité de l’enseignement. L’accent est porté sur l’intégration du plurilinguisme et de l’interculturalité en ce qui concerne ces stratégies. Dans cette contribution, nous nous appuyons sur les travaux du Conseil de l’Europe et plus précisément sur les publications du Centre européen pour les langues vivantes. À partir des expériences et ressources internationales, nous donnerons quelques pistes possibles pour l’élaboration de stratégies locales pour les langues vivantes.

This scientific work provides a comparison and analysis of the quality and hygiene requirements of raw cow’s milk obtained from individual producers of large and small farms in three regions of Pelagonia in accordance with the Rulebook on requirements for quality, safety and hygiene of milk. The examinations include analysis of the parameters of the chemical composition, determination of the number of somatic cells and total number of bacteria from milk samples taken throughout the year from small and large farms. The best results (p<0.05) for the protein content are observed in the milk coming from small and large farms from the Southern part of the Pelagonia region, compared to the Northern part of the Pelagonia region and Prilep region. The amount of dry fat-free matter in the milk from small farms in all three regions did not show a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). The results for the lactose content of milk from all three examined regions are within the limits of the Rulebook for raw milk. A significant difference (p<0.01) was found for the content of somatic cells in small farms. It is noteworthy that small farms deviate significantly from the safety and hygiene requirements outlined in the Rulebook, primarily due to the hygiene practices concerning dairy cows. The results obtained will be valuable for the dairy industry, as they will identify weaknesses among domestic producers. Professional services will implement measures and activities to help farmers meet EU standards in milk production.
