Recent work presented increasing evidence of high, non-constant S/O abundance ratios observed in star-forming metal-poor galaxies, showing deviations from the constant canonical S/O across a large range of O/H abundance. Similar peculiar high Fe/O ratios have been also recently detected. We investigate whether these high S/O ratios at low metallicities could be explained taking into consideration the process of Pair Instability Supernovae (PISN) in chemical modelling through which similar behaviour observed for Fe/O ratios was successfully reproduced. We use chemical evolution models which take into account the stages of PISN in the yields published by Goswami et al. 2022, and adopt a suitable initial mass function (IMF) to characterize this evolutionary stage .appropriately. The peculiar high values and the behaviour of the observed S/O versus O/H relation can be reproduced when the ejecta of very massive stars that go through the process of PISN are taken into account. Additionally, a bi-modal top-heavy IMF and an initial strong burst of star formation are required to attain the reported high S/O values. In this paper, we use jointly a model of narrow band interference and a congestion model to model and implement an interference simulator for the whole HF band. The result is a model to generate interfering signals that could be found in a given frequency allocation, at a given time (past, present, or future) and for a given location. Our model does not require measurements and it is characterized by its ease of use and the freedom it offers to choose scene (modulation, location, week, year, etc.). In addition, we have defined a generic modulating function and the conditions to model a contact continuous wave (CW)-Morse, which meets the usual standards of contest. Consequently, our interference model in conjunction with the CW-Morse modulating function designed results in a specific CW-Morse model for amateur contests. The present work reports the effect of adding Graphene Oxide (GO) and reduced Graphene Oxide (rGO) in the corrosion protection provided by a water-borne resin applied on a galvanized steel substrate. Three concentrations, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.15 (all wt%) were tested. The results were markedly affected not only by the concentration of particles but also by their nature. Although the zeta potential values suggested good dispersibility of the particles in the resin, certain aggregation was observed, mainly in rGO 0.1 wt% and rGO 0.15 wt% formulations. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique characterised the free films' transport properties. The results suggested that the aggregation strongly influenced the film morphology. The rGO 0.1 wt% and rGO 0.15 wt% formulations exhibited percolating pores that facilitated the electrolyte uptake through the films. The EIS technique was also used to study the protective performance of the films when applied to the metallic substrate. The results confirmed the harmful effect of the particle's aggregation. The results were interesting for the rGO 0.05 wt% system, which displayed long-lasting protection properties. This performance was explained considering its good barrier properties and the zinc surface passivation by the generation of zincite, ZnO.

Green Pea galaxies are remarkable for their intense star formation and serve as a window into the early universe. In our study, we used integral field spectroscopy to examine 24 of these galaxies in the optical spectrum. We focused on the interaction between their ionized interstellar medium and the star formation processes within them. Our research generated spatial maps of emission lines and other properties like ionization structures and chemical conditions. These maps showed that areas with higher levels of excitation are usually located where starbursts are occurring. Continuum maps displayed more intricate structures than emission line maps and hinted at low brightness ionized gas in the galaxies' outer regions. We also analyzed integrated spectra from selected areas within these galaxies to derive physical properties like electron densities and temperatures. In some galaxies, we were able to determine metallicity levels. Our observations revealed the presence of high-ionizing lines in three galaxies, two of which had extremely high rates of star formation. Our findings provide valuable insights into the properties and star-forming processes in Green Pea galaxies, contributing to our broader understanding of galactic evolution in the early universe.

Quantum entanglement offers a unique perspective into the underlying structure of strongly-correlated systems such as atomic nuclei. In this paper, we use quantum information tools to analyze the structure of light and medium-mass berillyum, oxygen, neon and calcium isotopes within the nuclear shell model. We use different entanglement metrics, including single-orbital entanglement, mutual information, and von Neumann entropies for different equipartitions of the shell-model valence space and identify mode-entanglement patterns related to the energy, angular momentum and isospin of the nuclear single-particle orbitals. We observe that the single-orbital entanglement is directly related to the number of valence nucleons and the energy structure of the shell, while the mutual information highlights signatures of proton-proton and neutron-neutron pairing, as well as nuclear deformation. Proton and neutron orbitals are weakly entangled by all measures, and in fact have the lowest von Neumann entropies among all possible equipartitions of the valence space. In contrast, orbitals with opposite angular momentum projection have relatively large entropies, especially in spherical nuclei. We compute the ground-state properties of fully polarized, trapped, one-dimensional fermionic systems interacting through a gaussian potential. We use an antisymmetric artificial neural network, or neural quantum state, as an ansatz for the wavefunction and use machine learning techniques to variationally minimize the energy of systems from 2 to 6 particles. We provide extensive benchmarks with other many-body methods, including exact diagonalisation and the Hartree-Fock approximation. The neural quantum state provides the best energies across a wide range of interaction strengths. We find very different ground states depending on the sign of the interaction. In the non-perturbative repulsive regime, the system asymptotically reaches crystalline order. In contrast, the strongly attractive regime shows signs of bosonization. The neural quantum state continuously learns these different phases with an almost constant number of parameters and a very modest increase in computational time with the number of particles.

Operating Si quantum dot (QD) arrays requires homogeneous and ultra-dense structures with aggressive gate pitch. Such a density is necessary to separately control the QDs chemical potential (i.e. charge occupation of each QD) from the exchange interaction (i.e. tunnel barriers between each QD). We present here a novel Si quantum device integration that halves the effective gate pitch and provides full controllability in 1D FDSOI QD arrays. The major advantages of this architecture are explored through numerical simulations. Functionality of the fabricated structure is validated via 300K statistical electrical characterization, while tunnel-coupling control is demonstrated at cryogenic temperature.

The nuclear shell model is one of the prime many-body methods to study the structure of atomic nuclei, but it is hampered by an exponential scaling on the basis size as the number of particles increases. We present a shell-model quantum circuit design strategy to find nuclear ground states by exploiting an adaptive variational quantum eigensolver algorithm. Our circuit implementation is in excellent agreement with classical shell-model simulations for a dozen of light and medium-mass nuclei, including neon and calcium isotopes. We quantify the circuit depth, width and number of gates to encode realistic shell-model wavefunctions. Our strategy also addresses explicitly energy measurements and the required number of circuits to perform them. Our simulated circuits approach the benchmark results exponentially with a polynomial scaling in quantum resources for each nucleus. This work paves the way for quantum computing shell-model studies across the nuclear chart and our quantum resource quantification may be used in configuration-interaction calculations of other fermionic systems., Comment: Version matching published version

The central star of the planetary nebula (PN) HuBi\,1 has been recently proposed to have experienced a very late thermal pulse (VLTP), but the dilution of the emission of the recent ejecta by that of the surrounding H-rich old outer shell has so far hindered confirming its suspected H-poor nature. We present here an analysis of the optical properties of the ejecta in the innermost regions of HuBi\,1 using MEGARA high-dispersion integral field and OSIRIS intermediate-dispersion long-slit spectroscopic observations obtained with the 10.4m Gran Telescopio de Canarias. The unprecedented tomographic capability of MEGARA to resolve structures in velocity space allowed us to disentangle for the first time the H$\alpha$ and H$\beta$ emission of the recent ejecta from that of the outer shell. The recent ejecta is found to have much higher extinction than the outer shell, implying the presence of large amounts of dust. The spatial distribution of the emission from the ejecta and the locus of key line ratios in diagnostic diagrams probe the shock excitation of the inner ejecta in HuBi\,1, in stark contrast with the photoionization nature of the H-rich outer shell. The abundances of the recent ejecta have been computed using the {\sc mappings v} code under a shock scenario. They are found to be consistent with a born-again ejection scenario experienced by the progenitor star, which is thus firmly confirmed as a new "born-again" star., Comment: 14+4 pages, 21+2 figures, including supplementary information

Universal behaviour in few-bosons systems close to the unitary limit, where two bosons become unbound, has been intensively investigated in recent years both experimentally and theoretically. In this particular region, called the unitary window, details of the inter-particle interactions are not important and observables, such as binding energies, can be characterized by a few parameters. With an increasing number of particles the short-range repulsion, present in all atomic, molecular or nuclear interactions, gradually induces deviations from the universal behaviour. In the present letter we discuss for the first time a simple way of incorporating non-universal behaviour through one specific parameter which controls the smooth transition of the system from universal to non-universal regime. Using a system of $N$ helium atoms as an example we calculate their ground state energies as trajectories within the unitary window and also show that the control parameters can be used to determine the energy per particle in homogeneous systems when $N \rightarrow \infty$., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

When the binding energy of a two-body system goes to zero the two-body system shows a continuous scaling invariance governed by the large value of the scattering length. In the case of three identical bosons, the three-body system in the same limit shows the Efimov effect and the scale invariance is broken to a discrete scale invariance. As the number of bosons increases correlations appear between the binding energy of the few- and many-body systems. We discuss some of them as the relation between the saturation properties of the infinite system and the low-energy properties of the few-boson system., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures. If the boundary conditions of the quantum vacuum are changed in time, quantum field theory predicts that real, observable particles can be created in the initially empty modes. Here, we realize this effect by changing the boundary conditions of a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate, which yields a population of initially unoccupied spatial and spin excitations. We prove that the excitations are created as entangled excitation pairs by certifying continuous-variable entanglement within the many-particle output state.

We study the 1D dynamics of dark-dark solitons in the miscible regime of two density-coupled Bose-Einstein condensates having repulsive interparticle interactions within each condensate ($g>0$). By using an adiabatic perturbation theory in the parameter $g_{12}/{g}$, we show that, contrary to the case of two solitons in scalar condensates, the interactions between solitons are attractive when the interparticle interactions between condensates are repulsive $g_{12}>0$. As a result, the relative motion of dark solitons with equal chemical potential $\mu$ is well approximated by harmonic oscillations of angular frequency $w_r=(\mu/\hbar)\sqrt{({8}/{15}){g_{12}}/{g}}$. We also show that in finite systems, the resonance of this anomalous excitation mode with the spin density mode of lowest energy gives rise to alternating dynamical instability and stability fringes as a function of the perturbative parameter. In the presence of harmonic trapping (with angular frequency $\Omega$) the solitons are driven by the superposition of two harmonic motions at a frequency given by $w^2=(\Omega/\sqrt{2})^2+w_r^2$. When $g_{12}<0$, these two oscillators compete to give rise to an overall effective potential that can be either single well or double well through a pitchfork bifurcation. All our theoretical results are compared with numerical solutions of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation for the dynamics and the Bogoliubov equations for the linear stability. A good agreement is found between them.

Saturation properties are directly linked to the short-range scale of the two-body interaction of the particles. The case of helium is particular, from one hand the two-body potential has a strong repulsion at short distances. On the other hand, the extremely weak binding of the helium dimer locates this system very close to the unitary limit allowing for a description based on an effective theory. At leading order of this theory a two- and a three-body term appear, each one characterized by a low energy constant. In a potential model this description corresponds to a soft potential model with a two-body term purely attractive plus a three-body term purely repulsive constructed to describe the dimer and trimer binding energies. Here we analyse the capability of this model to describe the saturation properties making a direct link between the low energy scale and the short-range correlations. We will show that the energy per particle, $E_N/N$, can be obtained with reasonable accuracy at leading order extending the validity of this approximation, characterizing universal behavior in few-boson systems close to the unitary limit, to the many-body system., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

The synthesis of vitamin D is strongly linked to the availability of solar energy. For a long time, it was clear that using the erythemal irradiances is a good choice to calculate the exposure time. Several authors argue that this method of minimum exposure time overestimates the calculation of the solar irradiance of vitamin D. In this paper, the vitamin D and erythemal irradiances are calculated on the basis of the spectral solar irradiance in Urcuqu\'i (Ecuador). From these results, we obtain the minimal exposure time. It was found that there is a difference between the use of the erythemal irradiance and the vitamin D one; namely, the exposure times were too large (almost a 100% difference) for the erythemal irradiance., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

We present the properties of the ground state and low-energy excitations of Bose-Hubbard chains with a geometry that varies from open to closed and with a tunable twisted link. In the vicinity of the symmetric $\pi-$flux case the system behaves as an interacting gas of discrete semifluxons for finite chains and interactions in the Josephson regime. The energy spectrum of the system is studied by direct diagonalization and by solving the corresponding Bogoliubov--de Gennes equations. The atom-atom interactions are found to enhance the presence of strongly correlated macroscopic superpositions of semifluxons.

We experimentally demonstrate an alternative method for the dynamic generation of atomic spin squeezing, building on the interplay between linear coupling and nonlinear phase evolution. Since the resulting quantum dynamics can be seen as rotation and shear on the generalized Bloch sphere, we call this scheme twist-and-turn (TnT). This is closely connected to an underlying instability in the classical limit of this system. The short-time evolution of the quantum state is governed by a fast initial spreading of the quantum uncertainty in one direction, accompanied by squeezing in the orthogonal axis. We find an optimal value of $\xi_{\text{S}}^2=-7.1(3)$ dB in a single BEC and scalability of the squeezing to more than 10^4 particles with $\xi_{\text{S}}^2=-2.8(4)$ dB., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

We study a one dimensional gas of repulsively interacting ultracold bosons trapped in a double-well potential as the atom-atom interactions are tuned from zero to infinity. We concentrate on the properties of the excited states which evolve from the so-called NOON states to the NOON Tonks-Girardeau states. The relation between the latter and the Bose-Fermi mapping limit is explored. We state under which conditions NOON Tonks-Girardeau states, which are not predicted by the Bose-Fermi mapping, will appear in the spectrum., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

We consider a Bose-Hubbard trimer, i.e. an ultracold Bose gas populating three quantum states. The latter can be either different sites of a triple-well potential or three internal states of the atoms. The bosons can tunnel between different states with variable tunnelling strength between two of them. This will allow us to study; i) different geometrical configurations, i.e. from a closed triangle to three aligned wells and ii) a triangular configuration with a $\pi$-phase, i.e. by setting one of the tunnellings negative. By solving the corresponding three-site Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian we obtain the ground state of the system as a function of the trap topology. We characterise the different ground states by means of the coherence and entanglement properties. For small repulsive interactions, fragmented condensates are found for the $\pi$-phase case. These are found to be robust against small variations of the tunnelling in the small interaction regime. A low-energy effective many-body Hamiltonian restricted to the degenerate manifold provides a compelling description of the $\pi$-phase degeneration and explains the low-energy spectrum as excitations of discrete semifluxon states.

We study a system of two bosons of one species and a third boson of a second species in a one-dimensional parabolic trap at zero temperature. We assume contact repulsive inter- and intra-species interactions. By means of an exact diagonalization method we calculate the ground and excited states for the whole range of interactions. We use discrete group theory to classify the eigenstates according to the symmetry of the interaction potential. We also propose and validate analytical ansatzs gaining physical insight over the numerically obtained wavefunctions. We show that, for both approaches, it is crucial to take into account that the distinguishability of the third atom implies the absence of any restriction over the wavefunction when interchanging this boson with any of the other two. We find that there are degeneracies in the spectra in some limiting regimes, that is, when the inter-species and/or the intra-species interactions tend to infinity. This is in contrast with the three-identical boson system, where no degeneracy occurs in these limits. We show that, when tuning both types of interactions through a protocol that keeps them equal while they are increased towards infinity, the systems's ground state resembles that of three indistinguishable bosons. Contrarily, the systems's ground state is different from that of three-identical bosons when both types of interactions are increased towards infinity through protocols that do not restrict them to be equal. We study the coherence and correlations of the system as the interactions are tuned through different protocols, which permit to built up different correlations in the system and lead to different spatial distributions of the three atoms., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

We present the complete phase diagram for one-dimensional binary mixtures of bosonic ultracold atomic gases in a harmonic trap. We obtain exact results with direct numerical diagonalization for small number of atoms, which permits us to quantify quantum many-body correlations. The quantum Monte Carlo method is used to calculate energies and density profiles for larger system sizes. We study the system properties for a wide range of interaction parameters. For the extreme values of these parameters, different correlation limits can be identified, where the correlations are either weak or strong. We investigate in detail how the correlation evolve between the limits. For balanced mixtures in the number of atoms in each species, the transition between the different limits involves sophisticated changes in the one- and two-body correlations. Particularly, we quantify the entanglement between the two components by means of the von Neumann entropy. We show that the limits equally exist when the number of atoms is increased, for balanced mixtures. Also, the changes in the correlations along the transitions among these limits are qualitatively similar. We also show that, for imbalanced mixtures, the same limits with similar transitions exist. Finally, for strongly imbalanced systems, only two limits survive, i.e., a miscible limit and a phase-separated one, resembling those expected with a mean-field approach., Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures

We consider an ultracold bosonic binary mixture confined in a one-dimensional double-well trap. The two bosonic components are assumed to be two hyperfine internal states of the same atom. We suppose that these two components are spin-orbit coupled between each other. We employ the two-mode approximation starting from two coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations and derive a system of ordinary differential equations governing the temporal evolution of the inter-well population imbalance of each component and that between the two bosonic species. We study the Josephson oscillations of these spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensates by analyzing the interplay between the interatomic interactions and the spin-orbit coupling and the self-trapped dynamics of the inter-species imbalance. We show that the dynamics of this latter variable is crucially determined by the relationship between the spin-orbit coupling, the tunneling energy, and the interactions., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures

We extend a recent method to shortcut the adiabatic following to internal bosonic Josephson junctions in which the control parameter is the linear coupling between the modes. The approach is based on the mapping between the two-site Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian and a 1D effective Schr\"odinger-like equation, valid in the large $N$ (number of particles) limit. Our method can be readily implemented in current internal bosonic Josephson junctions and it improves substantially the production of spin-squeezing with respect to usually employed linear rampings.

We show that a two-component mixture of a few repulsively interacting ultracold atoms in a one-dimensional trap possesses very different quantum regimes and that the crossover between them can be induced by tuning the interactions in one of the species. In the composite fermionization regime, where the interactions between both components are large, none of the species show large occupation of any natural orbital. Our results show that by increasing the interaction in one of the species, one can reach the phase-separated regime. In this regime, the weakly interacting component stays at the center of the trap and becomes almost fully phase coherent, while the strongly interacting component is displaced to the edges of the trap. The crossover is sharp, as observed in the in the energy and the in the largest occupation of a natural orbital of the weakly interacting species. Engineering strong p-wave interactions between fermions is one of the challenges in modern quantum physics. Such interactions are responsible for a plethora of fascinating quantum phenomena such as topological quantum liquids and exotic superconductors. In this letter we propose to combine recent developments of nanoplasmonics with the progress in realizing laser-induced gauge fields. Nanoplasmonics allows for strong confinement leading to a geometric resonance in the atom-atom scattering. In combination with the laser-coupling of the atomic states, this is shown to result in the desired interaction. We illustrate how this scheme can be used for the stabilization of strongly correlated fractional quantum Hall states in ultracold fermionic gases.

We study the fractional quantum Hall phases of a pseudospin-1/2 Bose gas in an artificial gauge field. In addition to an external magnetic field, the gauge field also mimics an intrinsic spin-orbit coupling of the Rashba type. While the spin degeneracy of the Landau levels is lifted by the spin-orbit coupling, the crossing of two Landau levels at certain coupling strengths gives rise to a new degeneracy. We therefore take into account two Landau levels, and perform exact diagonalization of the many-body Hamiltonian. We study and characterize the quantum Hall phases which occur in the vicinity of the degeneracy point. Notably, we describe the different states appearing at the Laughlin filling, \nu=1/2. While for this filling incompressible phases disappear at the degeneracy point, denser systems at \nu=3/2 and \nu=2 are found to be clearly gapped. For filling factors \nu=2/3 and \nu=4/3, we discuss the connection of the exact ground state to the non-Abelian spin singlet states, obtained as the ground state of k+1 body contact interactions.

We describe methods for fast production of highly coherent-spin-squeezed many-body states in bosonic Josephson junctions (BJJs). We start from the known mapping of the two-site Bose-Hubbard (BH) Hamiltonian to that of a single effective particle evolving according to a Schr\"odinger-like equation in Fock space. Since, for repulsive interactions, the effective potential in Fock space is nearly parabolic, we extend recently derived protocols for shortcuts to adiabatic evolution in harmonic potentials to the many-body BH Hamiltonian. The best scaling of the squeezing parameter for large number of atoms N is \xi^2_S ~ 1/N., Comment: Improved and enlarged version, accepted at Phys. Rev. A

We analyze the formation of squeezed states in a condensate of ultracold bosonic atoms confined by a double-well potential. The emphasis is set on the dynamical formation of such states from initially coherent many-body quantum states. Two cases are described: the squeezing formation in the evolution of the system around the stable point, and in the short time evolution in the vicinity of an unstable point. The latter is shown to produce highly squeezed states on very short times. On the basis of a semiclassical approximation to the Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian, we are able to predict the amount of squeezing, its scaling with $N$ and the speed of coherent spin formation with simple analytical formulas which successfully describe the numerical Bose-Hubbard results. This new method of producing highly squeezed spin states in systems of ultracold atoms is compared to other standard methods in the literature., Comment: 12 pages, revised discussion + added references

We provide a Mathematica code for decomposing strongly correlated quantum states described by a first-quantized, analytical wave function into many-body Fock states. Within them, the single-particle occupations refer to the subset of Fock-Darwin functions with no nodes. Such states, commonly appearing in two-dimensional systems subjected to gauge fields, were first discussed in the context of quantum Hall physics and are nowadays very relevant in the field of ultracold quantum gases. As important examples, we explicitly apply our decomposition scheme to the prominent Laughlin and Pfaffian states. This allows for easily calculating the overlap between arbitrary states with these highly correlated test states, and thus provides a useful tool to classify correlated quantum systems. Furthermore, we can directly read off the angular momentum distribution of a state from its decomposition. Finally we make use of our code to calculate the normalization factors for Laughlin's famous quasi-particle/quasi-hole excitations, from which we gain insight into the intriguing fractional behavior of these excitations., Comment: Accepted in Computer Physics Communications. We employ the exact diagonalization method to analyze the possibility of generating strongly correlated states in two-dimensional clouds of ultracold bosonic atoms which are subjected to a geometric gauge field created by coupling two internal atomic states to a laser beam. Tuning the gauge field strength, the system undergoes stepwise transitions between different ground states, which we describe by analytical trial wave functions, amongst them the Pfaffian, the Laughlin, and a Laughlin quasiparticle many-body state. The adiabatic following of the center of mass movement by the lowest energy dressed internal state, is lost by the mixing of the second internal state. This mixture can be controlled by the intensity of the laser field. The non-adiabaticity is inherent to the considered setup, and is shown to play the role of circular asymmetry. We study its influence on the properties of the ground state of the system. Its main effect is to reduce the overlap of the numerical solutions with the analytical trial expressions by occupying states with higher angular momentum. Thus, we propose generalized wave functions arising from the Laughlin and Pfaffian wave function by including components, where extra Jastrow factors appear, while preserving important features of these states. We analyze quasihole excitations over the Laughlin and generalized Laughlin states, and show that they possess effective fractional charge and obey anyonic statistics. Finally, we study the energy gap over the Laughlin state as the number of particles is increased keeping the chemical potential fixed. The gap is found to decrease as the number of particles is increased, indicating that the observability of the Laughlin state is restricted to a small number of particles., Comment: 28 pages, 16 figures

Using exact diagonalization for a small system of cold bosonic atoms, we analyze the emergence of strongly correlated states in the presence of an artificial magnetic field. This gauge field is generated by a laser beam that couples two internal atomic states, and it is related to Berry's geometrical phase that emerges when an atom follows adiabatically one of the two eigenstates of the atom--laser coupling. Our approach allows us to go beyond the adiabatic approximation, and to characterize the generalized Laughlin wave functions that appear in the strong magnetic field limit., Comment: 8 pages, revised and enlarged version, to be published Phys.
