One of the important factors in the success of True Seed of Shallot (TSS)-based shallot production is the right seeding technology. The study aimed to obtain appropriate nursery techniques for producing high-quality seedlings to increase shallot productivity. The experiment was conducted in Cirebon Regency, West Java, Indonesia, from May to October 2021, using a factorial randomized block design with three treatment factors and three replications. They consisted of shallot varieties (V) (Trisula, Bima, Lokananta, and Maserati); seedlings age (U) (45 and 60 days); and seedling population density (P) (5, 7.5, and 10 g m−2 of TSS). The results revealed that seedling performance was negatively correlated to the bulb yield and revenue cost ratio (R/C). The use of young seedlings enhanced bulb production and R/C ratio in all varieties but had varied effects on cluster alterations in Maserati, Bima, and Trisula varieties. Young Lokananta seedlings prepared in the nursery at a seed density of 7.5 g m−2 proved to be the best treatment to generate the highest bulb production (39.92 t ha−1) and the highest R/C (3.62). Farmers are expected to implement seedling preparation techniques using young seedlings and managing seed populations in diverse varieties to maximize bulb production and R/C.

Many tubers are needed for the production of G0 potato seeds because potato seeds are sold in units of quantity. This research aimed to increase the number of tubers in G0 potato seed production. The study was conducted in a plastic house in Lembang, West Bandung, West Java from October 2017 to January 2018. The study used a randomized block design with six replications. The treatments tested were control (A), application of gibberellins (B), cutting of planlet cuttings followed by application of gibberellins (C), application of paclobutrazole (D), and application of paclobutrazole followed by gibberellins (E). Data were analyzed by F test and continued with orthogonal contrast, and correlation test at 95% confidence level and PCA biplot. The results showed that various introduced treatments failed in increasing the number of tuber total. However, the results of PCA biplot showed that C and D treatments were potential to be studied further by increasing the size of small tubers due to their greater number of tubers in total.

The nitrogen concentration of AB mix fertilizer in the G2 fertigation system in the field would be influenced by various factors. This research aimed to increase the production of the G2 potato seed by using different concentrations of nitrogen in AB mix fertilizer in the fertigation system. The study was carried out in the G2 seed production area, Lembang, West Java, Indonesia from January to April 2019. The study used a randomized group design with four nitrogen concentrations in AB mix hydroponic fertilizer, namely 200, 215, 230, 245 ppm, and common AB mix (control) with five replications. The results showed that the number of big tubers of all nutrition formulas was higher than the control. The nitrogen concentration treatment increased the number of large tubers, small tubers, and total number of tubers, and decreased the weight per tuber compared to control. The best concentration to get the total number of tubers, small and large tuber, and weight per tuber was 217 ppm. The total number of tubers was affected by 93% by the number of small tubers. Meanwhile, the number of large tubers affected 78% of the tuber weight per plant.

Intensive land use without regard to soil fertility and health can reduce crop productivity. The purpose of this research was to compare yields of various packages of land preparation technology that can support soil fertility and health. The study was conducted in Cianjur Regency, West Java, Indonesia from June until November 2019. The study used a randomized block design with four treatments and six replications. The technology packages tested were the solarization of mulch installation, the use of biofertilizers, and chemical fumigation. Data were analysed by analysis of variance and followed by Duncan's test at the 95% confidence level. The results showed that there was no difference in fruit weight and number of fruits per plant, as well as weight per fruit in all treatments. However, the treatment of delaying planting for two weeks after mulch installation and the use of biofertilizer has the potential to be studied further because they were significant at several harvests. The weight per plant was 30.34-46.67 g higher than other treatments at the 4th harvest, the number of fruits was 3.2-11.67 higher at the 3-4th harvest, and the weight per fruit was 0.31-0.65 higher in the 2nd-5th harvest.

Massive import of garlic products has caused a declining interest of Indonesian farmers to plant garlic due to losing competition in clove size and lower selling price. This has discouraged the farmers from applying the innovation of garlic farming technology that caused low garlic productivity in Indonesia (8.7 t/ha). The purpose of this research was to improve the technology package of garlic cultivation at the farmer level. The study was conducted from July to October 2021 in Cianjur Regency, West Java, Indonesia. The technology packages experimental design was randomized block design with nine replications. The technology packages tested were farmer’s technology package, introduced technology package-1, and introduced technology package-2. The components of the technology package tested were cultivar, mulch types, number of cloves per hole, biofertilizer, biopesticide, and chemical fertilizers. The observed variables were plant growth, bulb yield, and input-output of farming. The results showed that the technology package introduction could increase the plant performance, namely the plant height, stem diameter, bulb fresh weight and bulb diameter. The highest R/C ratio was reached by the technology package introduction-1 (1.47). The introduced technology package-1 was more profitable than package-2 as indicated by the MBCR value of 12.46 and 8.83 respectively.

True seed of shallot (TSS) can be an alternative source of shallot seeds. But the use of TSS in Indonesia is still limited because not many people produce TSS because of high input production. This research aimed to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of input saving TSS production technology packages. The research was carried out in Ciwidey district, Bandung Regency, West Java, Indonesia from June to October 2016. The research consisted of two factors arranged in a split plot with a randomized block design and eight replications. The main plot was technology packages, namely farmer, recommendation and input saving. The subplot was harvest time, which were 80, 90, and 100 weeks after planting. The observed variables were yield component and yield, soil status, climate data, and farming data. The technical data were analyzed by ANOVA test and continued using the Duncan test at a 95% confidence level. Farming data was analyzed by RC ratio. The results showed that input saving package did not meet seed standards with an RC ratio of 1.07. Savings input on TSS production in Indonesia were only possible by choosing the right location and planting time and must be followed by climate prediction.

The low production of Atlantic as processed variety has prompted efforts to introduce varieties as well as the creation of new varieties. The purpose of this study was to examine various alternatives of processed potato varieties that have the potential in the highlands of Garut, West Java. The research was conducted in Cikajang, Garut, West Java, from December 2017 to March 2018. The research used a randomized block design with eight varieties and four replications. The varieties tested were Blis, Atlantic M., Medians, Granola L, AR8, AR7, Amabile, and Atlantic. The observed variables were height plant at 2, 4, 6, and 8 WAP, number of tuber by size, and tuber weight. The data was tested with the F test and if it was significantly different, it was continued with the orthogonal contrast test at the 5% level. Heatmap analysis was performed using the R Studio program The result showed that Granola was not significantly different from all processed varieties. There were three groups of processed varieties, namely the first group, Amabile. The second was AR 7, Medians, and Blis. The third was Atlantic M, Atlantic, and AR 8. Amabile variety had the highest production and number of large tubers.

Centella asiatica is an herbal plant with many health benefits due to the content of asiaticoside compounds. Factors affecting asiaticoside content are altitude, soil texture, and soil nutrient status. This research aimed to identify the effect of zeolite, P2O5 fertilizer, and soil media from different altitudes on C. asiatica. The research was conducted in a greenhouse from August 2017–June 2018. The experimental design was a factorial, completely randomized design with three factors and four replications. The first factor was soil media that originated from 100, 450, and 900 m above sea level (asl), the second factor was the dose of P2O5 fertilizer (0, 27, 54, and 81 kg ha−1), and the third was the dose of zeolite (0, 3, and 6 t ha−1). The results showed that applying zeolite minerals at all altitudes increased nutrient availability and soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) by up to 70%. The novelty of this study is that the soil from an altitude of 900 m asl, with a P2O5 fertilizer dose of 54 kg ha−1, has a loamy sand soil texture and produces the highest asiaticoside content (3.61%) and the largest plant dry weight (19.24 g). These results did not significantly differ from those obtained from the soil 450 m asl with a sandy loam soil texture (the most suitable soil texture for C. asiatica), that is 3.37% asiaticoside and 19.87 g plant dry weight. This study concluded that C. asiatica could develop in loamy sand soil by giving it 54 kg ha−1 P2O5 fertilizer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
