This work presents the last version of the operational analysis and forecasting system of the physical variables and evolution plans in the Black Sea, as developed in the framework of the Copernicus Marine Service for the Black Sea Monitoring and Forecasting Centre. The modelling system consists of NEMO v4.0 hydrodynamical model at 1/40º resolution in horizontal and 121 vertical levels, online coupled to OceanVar for the assimilation of available insitu and satellite observations. Recently, the system has been upgraded to handle the operational historical and forecasting discharge data for the Danube River as provided by the NIHWM (Romania). This contribution will focus on the description of the Black Sea Physics production unit operational capacity and on the accuracy of the delivered products by computing relevant metrics for analysis fields and forecasting skills.

Ocean reanalyses reconstruct the ocean state with a long integration of an ocean model constrained by atmospheric surface forcing and observations via data assimilation. Since their results are more accurate in comparison to those derived from a model alone, they are a powerful tool to provide ocean monitoring indicators (OMIs) as well as to better understand the physical properties and dynamics of the Black Sea. In the scope of the Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS), the Black Sea physical reanalysis (BS-REA) system has been used to support the implementation of new indicators in the Black Sea. The system is built upon the hydrodynamic model NEMO v3.6 at 1/27° x 1/36°, and 31 unevenly distributed vertical levels, coupled to OceanVar for the assimilation of the best available observations (both in situ and satellite ones). In this contribution, we present the current operational indicators for the monitoring of temperature and salinity anomalies. BS-REA system provides temperature trends that indicate a warming of the basin: 0.0829±0.01069 oC year-1, 0.0380±0.0005 oC year-1, 0.0041±0.0001 oC year-1, respectively, in 0-25 m, 25-150 m and 150-300 m. Since 2007, the warming signal has been very clear in such a way that the Black Sea cold intermediate layer (CIL) almost disappeared in recent years. However, this continuous warming is interrupted in 2012 and less explicitly in 2017, years in which a replenishment of the CIL is verified. Similar analyses for salinity reveal that salinity trends reduce in depth and are larger from 2005, especially in surface layers. The system is very suitable for understanding the physical state of the Black Sea in recent years and allows to obtain more accurate OMIs for the sea, which are important to understand its response to climate change. Following recent CMEMS Ocean State Report contributions, new OMIs based on the ocean heat content anomaly and freshwater content anomaly will be produced this year, whereas indexes on the basis of the interannual variations of the Black Sea Rim Current intensity, the Black Sea overturning circulation and the coastal upwelling along the Turkish coast will be provided as OMIs in the near future. BS-REA is under continuous update in order that new versions will bring improvements in both the numerical model and data assimilation components.

The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) and to identify the differences in associated factors to its occurrence in urban area and countrysides in the municipality of Santa Luzia located in the semi-arid region of Paraíba. In the years 2015 and 2016, 779 blood samples from dogs were collected. The prevalence was determined by three serological techniques, ELISA-S7® Kit, DPP® Rapid Test and EIE-LVC® Kit, considering positive the samples that reacted in at least two assays. Associated factors were determined by univariate and multivariate analyzes of the guardians’ responses to the epidemiological questionnaire. The prevalence of anti-Leishmania infantum antibodies in the studied municipality was 15.00% (117/779), being higher in the urban area (15.20%) than in the countryside (13.60%). The neighborhood with the highest prevalence was Frei Damião with 26.40% (33/125), being considered a hotspot (OR 1.245, p=0.007). Other associated factors were the semi-domiciliary breeding (OR 1.798, p=0.025), in the urban area, and hunting dog (OR 18.505, p=0.016), contact with cattle (OR 17.298, p=0.022) and environment where the dog is raised (OR 4.802, p=0.024) in the countryside. In the municipality of Santa Luzia, the prevalence of canine visceral leishmaniasis is high and the disease is widely distributed. Epidemiological differences between urban area and the countryside could be observed demonstrating the need for more adequate control measures for each locality and proving the urbanization process. RESUMO: O objetivo desta pesquisa foi estimar a prevalência da leishmaniose visceral canina (LVC) e identificar as diferenças nos fatores relacionados à sua ocorrência nas zonas urbana e rural do município de Santa Luzia, localizado no semiárido paraibano. Nos anos de 2015 e 2016, coletaram-se 779 amostras de sangue de cães. A prevalência foi determinada através de três técnicas sorológicas, Kit ELISA-S7®, teste rápido DPP® e Kit EIE-LVC®, considerando positivas as amostras que reagiram em, pelo menos, dois ensaios. Os fatores relacionados foram determinados por meio das análises estatísticas uni e multivariada das respostas dos tutores ao questionário epidemiológico. A prevalência de anticorpos anti-Leishmania infantum encontrada no município estudado foi de 15,00% (117/779), sendo maior na zona urbana (15,20%) do que na rural (13,60%). O bairro que apresentou maior prevalência foi o Frei Damião com 26,40% (33/125), sendo considerado um hotspot (OR 1,245; p=0,007). Outros fatores relacionados encontrados foram a criação semidomiciliar (OR 1,798; p=0,025), na zorna urbana, e cão de caça (OR 18,505; p=0,016), contato com bovinos (OR 17,298; p=0,022) e ambiente onde o cão é criado (OR 4,802; p=0,024), na zona rural. Verifica-se a elevada prevalência da leishmaniose visceral canina e a sua ampla distribuição no município de Santa Luzia. Diferenças epidemiológicas entre as zonas urbana e rural puderam ser observadas, demonstrando a necessidade de medidas de controle mais adequadas para cada localidade e comprovando o processo de urbanização.

International audience; Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) includes the Black Sea Monitoring and Forecasting Center (BS-MFC) for the provisioning of high-quality forecast products and past reconstruction of the ocean state in the Black Sea. The BS-MFC is implemented by an international consortium since 2016, led by IO-BAS (Bulgaria) and including CMCC (Italy), ULiege (Belgium), HZ Hereon (Germany), USOF (Bulgaria), NIHWM (Romania), together with expertise from University of Bologna (Italy), ITU (Turkey) and DEU (Turkey). For each Production Unit-Physics, Biogeochemistry and Waves-an operational service and scientifi c evolution plans have been implemented. Every day, BS-MFC delivers analysis and 10-days forecast products for essential variables, including biogeochemistry and waves, at the spatial resolution of about 3 km. NRT systems are forced by ECMWF IFS atmospheric forcing, at 12.5 km horizontal resolution and 3-6 hours frequency in time. Twice per year, BS-MFC delivers MY products (reanalysis) starting from 1992 (1979 for BS-WAV). Systems are forced by ECMWF ERA5 atmospheric forcing, at 30 km horizontal resolution and 1-hour frequency in time. Scientifi c plans for the next generation of the BS-MFC systems put in top priority coupling strategy, ensemble forecasting, data assimilation capability and river runoff representation to support downstream services and applications, climate monitoring and coastal community.

International audience; This study will present the evolution of the Black Sea model physics in the framework of the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service, from EAS3 (current operational system) to EAS4 (operational from May 2021). EAS4 has been greatly improved thanks to new core model (based on NEMO v4.0), improved bathymetry and representation of rivers, revision of the spatial domain at higher resolution (2.5 km and 121 z-star-levels) to include the Marmara Sea box for the provision of the lateral open boundary conditions. For the optimal interface between Mediterranean and Black Sea though boundary conditions, a new high-resolution unstructured grid-based model has been developed for the Marmara Sea. Evolution in terms of modelling framework and prediction capacity will be detailed, describing the main results and skill score metrics.

Over the years, the emigration of Portuguese population has been a constant debate, reaching large percentages in certain periods of Portuguese history. This phenomenon has had a significant impact in areas such as economy, demography, culture, among many others, visible at national, regional and local levels. Emigrants become Portuguese communities residing outside the country, and emigration generates the emergence of the Portuguese diaspora. The phenomenon of emigration involves the bilateral focus between the country of origin and the country of destination. Therefore, the affection component assumes special importance in tourism studies and decision making by visitors and tourists (e.g. behavioural intentions). In this study, a preliminary contribution is presented based on a sample of 1057 respondents (i.e. Portuguese residing abroad), aiming to better understand and analyse the profile of migrants and what motivates them to return to Portugal in contexts of tourism and leisure. More than 50% of respondents report visiting their home country (Portugal) at least once a year (i.e. ethnic tourism). Therefore, a conceptual model is presented, which seeks to highlight the role of attachment on emigrants` behavioural intensities (i.e. choosing the tourist destination Portugal). The results show that attachment influences the decision of emigrants to choose Portugal as a holiday destination, namely with regard to satisfaction and loyalty to the destination (revisit and recommendation). In the end, conclusions and limitations of the study will be presented and guidelines for future research will be discussed.

A identificação de genes diferencialmente expressos em estágios distintos de uma dada doença, por exemplo, constituirá um enorme avanço na determinação de sua fisiopatologia, fornecendo marcadores moleculares para seu prognóstico e possíveis alvos para a intervenção do processo. Dentre as moléstias humanas, o câncer constitui-se em um dos principais alvos de pesquisa em biologia molecular e clínica médica, basicamente porque envolve um quadro de reprogramação celular complexo e ainda pouco compreendido. Entre os vários tipos de cânceres, a leucemia linfóide aguda é bastante prevalente no Brasil, classificando-a como 8° lugar em número de casos e óbitos decorrentes. Buscando compreender as bases moleculares do câncer, o Projeto Genoma Humano do Câncer (LICR/ FAPESP) se destacou por ter gerado milhares de seqüências codantes do DNA de tecidos humanos normais e tumorais, possibilitando a descoberta de novos genes relacionados aos processos carcinogênicos. Assim, o presente estudo utilizou fragmentos produzidos durante o Projeto Genoma Humano do Câncer para investigar o perfil de expressão gênica em leucemias linfóides agudas através da técnica de microarranjos de DNA. The identification of differentially expressed genes in distinct stages of any given disease, for example, will permit an enormous advance in the determination of its physiopathology, identifying molecular markers for its prognostic and possible targets for the intervention of the process. Among human diseases, cancer consists in one of the main subjects of research in clinical and molecular biology, basically because involves a complex and poorly understood process of cellular reprogramming. Among the cancer subtypes, acute lymphoblastic leukemia is prevalent in Brazil, ranked in 8th position in number of clinical cases and decorrent deaths. Attempting to increase the understanding of cancer molecular bases, Human Cancer Genome Project (LICR/ FAPESP) had detached by generation of thousand of expressed sequences of normal and tumoral human tissues, increasing the possibility of discovery of novel genes related to carcinogenic processes. Thus, the present work employed the Human Cancer Genome Project fragments to investigate the global gene expression profile in acute lymphoblastic leukemia by DNA microarrays technique.
