The ���Ciampate del diavolo��� geosite is unique in the World due to its geological and anthropological peculiarities. Finding hominin footprints on the ignimbrite deposits of 350,000 years ago, imprinted in the period of greatest activity of the volcano, opens up numerous questions about the palaeoenvironmental conditions of the volcano and the complex processes that allowed the generation and conservation of the footprints. The note pays particular attention to the framing of the volcano's activity and to the features of deposits of the Brown Leucitic Tuff series, as the human fossil footprints known as "Ciampate del Diavolo" are preserved on the surface of one of the highest units in the sequence., Il sito delle ���Ciampate del diavolo���, sul fianco nordorientale del vulcano Roccamonfina, ��� un sito unico al Mondo grazie alle sue peculiarit��� geologiche ed antropologiche. Il ritrovamento di impronte di hominini al di sopra di un deposito ignimbritico, impresse in nel periodo di maggiore attivit��� del vulcano, d��� spazio a numerose questioni circa le condizioni paleoambientali esistenti sul vulcano ed i complessi processi che hanno permesso la formazione e la conservazione delle impronte. Available studies for Event Trees at the Campi Flegrei caldera are based on the application of the Bayesian Event Tree model for eruption forecasting (BET_EF) and volcanic hazard (BET_VH). In this document we review such studies, which contain full implementation of the probabilistic eruption forecasting and volcanic hazard at Campi Flegrei, implemented both at long- (years) and short-term (hours to days) based on the current vs. past states of the caldera. In particular, we focus here on the eruption forecasting procedures. This review document has been developed within the WP11 of the European project EUROVOLC.

La città di Napoli presenta un assetto morfologico molto articolato, inserito nella parte orientale dei Campi Flegrei (fig. 1a), che sono un campo vulcanico caratterizzato da eventi prevalentemente esplosivi e da centri distribuiti in un territorio molto vasto [Rosi e Sbrana, 1987; Orsi et al., 1996]. La vulcano-tettonica dell’area è dominata da due collassi calderici legati alle due eruzioni di Ignimbrite Campana e Tufo Giallo Napoletano e da ulteriori eventi deformativi di minore entità che hanno ulteriormente dislocato le sequenze di rocce dell’area napoletano-flegrea a varie quote. Inoltre l’area è caratterizzata da un vistoso fenomeno di risorgenza che ha dislocato in blocchi il fondo della caldera e determinato, tra l’altro, il significativo sollevamento del terrazzo marino de La Starza [Cinque et al., 1985]. This variability is quantified by means of Event Trees and conditional probabilities (Newhall and Hoblitt, 2002). To better constrain uncertainty, different sources of information should be considered and integrated with each other: geological record, historical observations, monitoring activities, results from scenario modelling. The integration of the different data is important to provide a robust characterization of the state of Vesuvius over geological vs. historical times, also in light of its current state as inferred from monitoring data and conceptual models. Different techniques exist to carry out this integration. International audience; Archaeological excavations, undertaken since 2004 for the construction of the new Naples subway, have unearthed the harbor basin of the Greco–Roman town of Parthenope–Neapolis, furnishing scientists with the opportunity to recover abundant archaeological remains and a thick succession of diverse infill sediments. The latter underwent sedimentological, paleontological, and volcanological analyses. Compositional data analysis, applied to all three data sets, highlighted three main paleoenvironmental changes in the harbor basin from the Augustan Age up to the 6th century A.D. The beginning of harbor activity is recorded during the 3rd century B.C. when sedimentation was interrupted by intensive dredging of the sea‐bottom. The impact of the A.D. 79 Vesuvius eruption, recorded for the first time in the Neapolitan territory, led to a reduction in Posidonia meadows and to an ensuing phase of more restricted water circulation and pollution. At the beginning of the 5th century A.D., an open lagoon environment was established, attesting to coastal progradation. The final closure of this part of the bay occurred at the end of the 5th to the beginning of the 6th century A.D., due to increased alluvial input linked to both natural and anthropogenic causes.
