Abstract

Renewable energy, green energy, environmental sustainability, and interventions aimed at the construction of low-carbon structures are now major topics of interest for a sustainable, economic and social development of the city. For several years the international scenario has presented guidelines and protocols for the energy-environmental sustainability of buildings, often aimed at awarding a high sustainability label. In Italy one of the most used certification systems is the ITACA Protocol, recently updated by the UNI /PDR 2023, which through a series of criteria identifies global indicators on sustainability, energy efficiency and indoor comfort of the building. In this context, an multi-criteria analysis was developed to identify highly energy-efficient solutions for nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEB) in the Marche region.

Abstract

There is a growing scientific consensus that COVID-19 could be transmitted through the airborne route, putting ventilation at the heart of a mitigation strategy for buildings, including schools. The design of suitable systems requires to consider all aspects both for the control of air movement and the diffusion of bacterial loads, but also of other parameters of indoor air quality. This work examines the acoustic design of ventilation systems in schools and the effects that the systems have on the acoustic quality of the classrooms in compliance with the standard series UNI 11532. The standards provide a guideline on the design and the evaluation of the acoustic performances of schools, including attention for children with special educational needs. Abstract

The present paper regards the proposal of an innovative low-cost ventilated load-bearing masonry using a new prefabricated dry-laid formwork wood-cement block with external interconnected holes forming a ventilated cavity. The aim of the work was to verify the performance of this solution by experimental and numerical comparison with other traditional and ventilated walls. To that end, an experimental campaign was carried out in summer on a simplified prototype involving the reproduction of the external ventilated cavity and the simultaneous measure of a ventilated cladding currently used. Numerical calculations on measure-calibrated models allowed to compare surface temperatures and heat fluxes for several ventilated and non-ventilated configurations. The results demonstrated that the proposed wall has a very high attenuation attitude on the crossing heat flows thus reducing summer gains. Moreover, the closing of the ventilation openings in winter and the use of the cavity as a still air gap also reduces the cold period dissipation. The costs are halved with respect to a traditional ventilated solution for the absence of the metal substructure., Peer Reviewed, Postprint (author's final draft)
