In the past thirty years, there has been a radical change in almost every business sector: companies nowadays offer increasingly complete packages or “bundles,” i.e-, combinations of goods, services, assistance, self-service and customer-focused knowledge. But it is services that have the lion’s share. In this context, those involved in the servitization process, such as designers, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists, seem to focus more and more on the customer experience than on enabling technology. This has led to the birth of many successful new companies as well as to financial scandals. The aim of this article is to understand how the “fake ’til you make it” approach in design and business has found a key ally in the media. Furthermore, in view of the unprecedented opportunities offered by ICT and artificial intelligence, and in light of the challenges of the green transition, we discuss its ethical and pedagogical implications for the entire field of design.

Waste management is becoming an increasingly important issue in contemporary society. The growth in consumption, the increase in urbanization and economic development have as main consequence an increase in the production of waste. Moreover, the population's bad recycling habits are becoming more and more entrenched. In this context, sustainable development has gained considerable importance and the need to teach new generations the value of protecting the environment is key and what through our research we are experimenting is the way of playing. In fact, basic but very significant behaviours can be activated through a game and they may become stable habits and then proper lifestyles. This paper describes an educational game that might support educators and trainers to raise environmental consciousness in kids. Starting from several co-design sessions conducted with teachers, children and parents, we elaborated an idea to target the stakeholders' needs: making the separate collection an enjoyable experience by collectively awarding children after the correct disposal of waste. This idea foresaw a touchpoint finalized to become an integral part of every child's routine during school hours. "Junkbox" thus becomes a vehicle for learning how to recycle and turning waste separation into a game. This ritual helps children to achieve one of the most important goals of recent years: actively contribute to reduce the environmental costs of our bad habits and lifestyles.

Background: Smart mobility can contribute to the design of “Smart cities” to answer users’ requests in terms of transport network efficiency, environmental and social sustainability. Focusing on urban smart mobility issues, the most important aspects are the presence of a connected transportation system, the availability of its information in the arrangement of digital data and the possibility to rapidly communicate it in an effective way to the citizens, urban transportation stakeholders andlocal authorities. Therefore, the challenges for the new era of mobility behavior would range from the effort of big data management and the need to shape the innovation of traveler demand to the changes in requirements for road design. Nevertheless, road safety issues and network working operations must consider all the automated vehicles (AV) as part of an intelligent transportation system. There are types of active safety systems that can influence people’s lifestyles. Aims: This chapter highlights the working mechanism, advantages and disadvantages of ICT technology applied to transportation in the field of safety improvement, environmental sustainability, road redesign and traveler behavioral change. These topics become significant for the study of the key elements associated to the issues with automated vehicles, when “Smart cities” will have new urban settings or mixed traffic. Discussion: This paper leads to redefining the mobility paradigm. Moreover, thanks to the innovation by traffic flow facilities and road equipment, it has been possible to conduct some case studies describing driver behavior towards land-use environment, unfamiliar routes and sharing mobility. Conclusion: The current technology applied to the transportation system already represents the outlook of a new kind of mobility. Many features deal with technical details and others face ethic or legal restrictions. A review of the entire transportation network program should be considered by 2020, worldwide, to make the necessary effort to reach a realistic smart mobility.

The urban environment has been facing multiple challenges, considering the social, political and economical forces which act within this realm. Indeed, various stakeholders have been debating over problems spread within the cites. The international community is aware about the needs to rethink the urbanisation model. Indeed, there is an high number of examples which show the necessity to bring new approaches, methods and processes in the cites’ strategies and policies. In this paper we will briefly show experimentations, methods and solutions deployed according to the different realities. The digital revolution has a role in facing these challenges, since it is possible to exploit its new means in order to enhance the possible interaction between the urban actors. The service design method becomes fundamental for a different understanding of the urban reality where the technological aspect is intertwined with the social innovation aspect. This possibility gives the chance to investigate an innovative frontier allowing a new engagement and dialogue between public administrations and civil society. This leads to a different collaborative system among the various urban stakeholders, witch gives to citizens the opportunity to become active participants in the city’s transformations and planning. UN-HABITAT is dealing with these digital challenges and is going to address them in the international conference Habitat III, which will be held in Quito in 2016. Various Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) have been set up across the world as occasion to debate over the multiple experiences which will be enriching contribution during Habitat III. In this framework, the mission of the UTC in Palermo was to better understand the capacity of the combination of ICT and Service Design to reimagine cites, especially in less globalised contexts, debating the role of the key actors involved: urban communities, researchers, private businesses and local authorities.

Transport policy is one of the most crucial sectors in the process of adaptation of contemporary cities to the challenge of sustainable development. For its close relation with social habits and people behaviors, in fact, innovation in transports play a strategic role both in the decreasing of the environmental impact of mobility and in the improvement of the quality of the built environment. To do so, however, cities need to reach a more effective integration between transport policy and land-use planning, as well as taking full advantage by the spreading of new technologies. In this context, this paper discusses the challenges provided by the reshaping of the transport system in the metropolitan area of Palermo, the second larger city in Southern Italy. It attempts to explore, particularly, the potential connections between the future “hard factors” of the transport policy – as a result of the programme of infrastructural improvement under realization in the urban area –, with other “soft factors”, such as the practices of social innovation in the field of mobility with the help of ICTs and other opportunities for urban regeneration linked to the reshaping of the transport system., Tema. Aims Many sinus node disease (SND) patients suffer from atrial fibrillation (AF). Anti-arrhythmic drugs (AADs) are the therapeutic mainstay for AF prophylaxis. The PITAGORA trial has a multicentre, prospective, randomized, single blind design to compare amiodarone with Class IC AADs in patients who have an AF history and are paced for SND. Methods and results Starting from January 2001, 176 patients received a Medtronic AT500 pacemaker. AADs were randomly assigned with a 3 : 2 ratio between Class III and Class IC. Randomization was stratified in order to assign two patients to amiodarone and one patient to sotalol every three Class III AAD patients. After a 5-month observational period, Ramp or Burst+ ATP therapies were enabled in a randomized way, maintained for 4 months, and then crossed over. Total follow-up period is 21 months. The primary long-term objective is to show the non-inferiority of IC AADs compared with amiodarone in terms of time to first occurrence of a composite endpoint (death, atrial cardioversion, hospitalizations due to AF or heart failure, or change of AADs). Data will be analysed on an intention-to-treat basis. The primary short-term objective is to compare Ramp vs. Burst+ efficacy in terminating atrial tachyarrhythmias treated by the device. Secondary endpoints are major clinical events, medication toxicity, symptoms, AF burden, and quality-of-life. Conclusion Given the high morbidity and healthcare costs associated with AF, new therapeutic strategies are needed. The results of the PITAGORA trial may help in guiding AADs therapy and ATP programming in SND patients suffering from AF.

In this paper, we present an exploratory study conducted during the first-year product design course at the University of Palermo aimed at developing a new version of the empathy map (Empathy Map 5 Senses - EM5S) after the COVID-19 outbreak. The research had two main goals: focus freshmen students’ attention on senses that have been temporarily excluded because of social distancing and masks, and collect data about the importance of every single purpose and how their presence changes the quality of familiar experiences such as commuting to work, working, having lunches and dinners, having fun and taking care of themselves. From the first sample of 210 EM5S, data shows the different roles of the five senses, and interesting patterns emerged in particular according to sight, touch, and smell senses. The research is still ongoing to process another 600 EM5S, and it’s open to contributions from other scholars working in the human-centered design field.

In occasione del WIAD, World Information Architecture day, la comunità professionale del design e dell’architettura dell’informazione si è riunita a Palermo per una giornata di riflessione teorica e di condivisione di progetti ed esperienze su scala globale sul tema A Connected World. Il presente contributo - che raccoglie anche una riflessione sull’importanza della vocazione mediterranea alle “connessioni liquide” basate sullo scambio, la convivenza e la tolleranza tra le culture - si articola all’interno di una cornice teorica che indaga sulle relazioni complesse tra “Patrimoni connessi” e discipline del design al tempo e nello spazio ibrido dell’infosfera. A questa parte fa seguito la presentazione di una innovati-va ed emblematica esperienze progettuale, che traccia una possibile via di ricerca e prassi progettuale, orientata alla generazione di nuovi artefatti “semantici” e “datapoietici” che popoleranno il nostro futuro (o presente) habitat. On the occasion of WIAD, World Information Architecture day, the design and information architecture professional community met in Palermo for a day of theoretical reflection and sharing of projects and experiences on a global scale on the theme of A Connected World. This contribution - which also contains a reflection on the importance of the Mediterranean vocation to “liquid connections” based on exchange, coexistence and tolerance between cultures - is structured within a theoretical framework that investigates the complex relationships between “Connected Heritage” and design disciplines at the time and in the hybrid space of the in-fosphere. This part is followed by the presentation of an innovative and emblematic design experience, which traces a possible path of research and design practice, oriented to the generation of new “semantic, informational, constructional and datapoietic artifacts” that will populate our future (or present) habitats.

The phenomenon of Fake News affects both individual choices and political opinions and orientations. But pervasiveness of digital technologies and dissemination of fake news are two sides of the same coin; therefore, to stem Fake News we need advanced and interdisciplinary technologies and strategies. Starting from the culture of design, where visual communication and visual information support an ethical approach shared with journalistic communication. Finally, the Fake News project highlighted the innovative potential of Artificial Intelligence, which through metrics and algorithms, but also with the unavoidable contribution of people, for the different design skills involved, can support truthful participatory information.

European Union Member States are called upon to meet internationally proposed environmental goals. This study is based, in particular, on the recommendation of the European Union (EU), which encourages Member States to pursue effective policies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions, including through appropriate changes in the behavioral habits of citizens. In this respect, among the main sectors involved, transport and mobility should certainly be mentioned. National institutions should be adequately involved in order to achieve the objectives set; in this regard, universities must certainly be considered for their educational value. These latter, for instance, could commit to improving the environmental performance of the mobility of their commuter students (to a not insignificant extent), since commuting modes are often the cause of high CO2 emissions; indeed, they still largely involve the use of internal combustion engines based on fossil fuels. In this paper, the effectiveness of a smartphone-app-based method to encourage commuter students to adopt more sustainable transport modes is evaluated. In more detail, starting from a statistical analysis of the status quo of mobility habits of a sample of students at the University of Palermo (Italy), an improvement of current habits toward a more sustainable path is encouraged through a new application (specifically created for this purpose) installed on students’ smartphones. Then, the daily and annual distances traveled by commuters with the new mobility modes are calculated, and the resulting savings in energy and CO2 emissions are estimated. Finally, it is proposed that the reduced emissions could be converted into energy-efficiency credits that the University could use to enter the emission trading system (ETS), here contextualized within the Italian “TEE” (“Energy Efficiency Credits”) scheme, while the benefits for students participating in the program could consist of reduced fees and free access to university services. The results obtained show the feasibility of the proposal. This approach can be considered a useful model that could be adopted by any other public institutions—not only universities—to facilitate their path toward decarbonization.

Humanity’s delayed reaction to the consequences of the climate crisis is the result of multiple interests and strategies caused by denialist policies and piloted information. It is also true, however, that there is a strictly cultural responsibility, in the form of a lack of dialogue between sources of knowledge. Restoring the balance between humanity and nature is the most important issue that contemporary design must address. Design has the task of highlighting objects and strategies in re-establishing the relationship between Man and the context in which he lives by re-integrating the social and natural ecosystems. In this context, thanks to the evolution of natural sciences and technology, it is possible to create fertile ground for the emergence of new relationships between design and nature, capable of offering new ways of both interpreting nature and configuring new scenarios.

Rethinking news and producing quality (“antibody”) contents as a remedy against the rampant proliferation of fake news (and the related erosion of democracy), starting from the values and approaches shared by the worlds of design and journalism can be - and certainly are - an effective and interesting way forward. The fertile confluence of the body of knowledge (and know-how) of these two disciplines has already produced excellent results, starting with design-driven experiments tried and tested in several significant experiences in Italy and abroad. As Paolo Ciuccarelli stated, “once again, designers as ‘meaning makers’ find today in the narrative of the world of the infosphere a design ground on which to play out their historical experience”.

The paper presents the value of packaging and misconceptions about plastic. In addition to shedding light on clichés and fake news about plastic and packaging, it outlines opportunities to consider the use and management of packaging for responsible waste collection; and new forms of consumption and supply chains to facilitate the transition from the current linear consumption model to one that is more responsible and open to a circular economy.

Although more than 25 years have passed since the publication of a report that clearly shows the scientific evidence on global warming and the influence of human activity, today there are still thousands of fake news stories circulating on the web. Lobbies have always used the media to discredit science, and with the boom in social media this strategy has shifted online. Deniers single out items of scientific truth and use them instrumentally to render fake news credible. After years of a widespread lack of control, something is changing: since 2020, Facebook has created the "Climate Science Information Center", a platform that signals fake climate news and encourages people to consult official and reliable sources. What can we Designers do? One of the main causes of the climate crisis is the production of carbon dioxide: planting a thousand billion trees would seem to be the most efficient and ecological solution right now. Reforestation or urban forestation projects are giving us time to think about an ecological transition plan. Our primary goal must be urban models steeped in nature, reduction of waste production and pollution, reduction of energy consumption and projects that employ plants to purify the air.

The paper investigates the mystery of a painting, Caravaggio’s The Nativity, and the scope of certain design devices implied in the interior/exterior relationship and described as a function of recognisable physical elements. For a long time, it was believed that this painting, placed on the altar of the oratory of San Lorenzo, was made in Palermo. It is a piece of fake news detected by interpreting and examining an architectural interior. Here, the value of natural light emerges, and we glimpse an irrefutable truth and therefore achieve an understanding of what happens when observing The Nativity and the oratory. What is the difference between recognising and identifying the arche, that is, precisely the signifying element between the painting and this architecture? It is the responsibility of the observer of a spatial device with “poetic potential”.

The aim of this article is to explore the possible link existing between space, particularly city space, and disinformation. The examination of some points of transition and change in the structure of technologies and their exploitation by power systems and power games will help identify some of their characteristics, namely control, domination and defence. The urban and territorial spatial dimension is a relational environment produced in various ways by the government practices and policies of a city. Transformations of the city space are set in motion by decision- making power, and these in turn are dependent on public opinion, which can be influenced in various ways by forms of disinformation. Citizens seek to trace the truth of information and therefore demand assurance from decision makers that their communication actions are anchored in reality. The state does not seem to be able to provide these guarantees due to the social transformation brought about by the profound change in communication instruments. In the conclusions, the study stresses the urgency to research into the links between city space and communicative action under conditions in which the phenomena of information distortion are controlled and assessed also with the aid of information technologies implemented to challenge the complexity of the exponential growth of data used as the basis for building public opinion without which no planning effort is possible.

Our socio-economic system – powered by fossil energy, non-renewable and polluting, and based on the exponential growth of consumption, with consequent exponential growth of waste (planned obsolescence) – is now collapsing. So what can design do to improve the society in which we live? The thesis of this discussion is that design can do a lot. Of course, we do not refer here to the projecting of niche products, technologically advanced, hedonistic and for the lucky few. If we want to change things, the designers of the future will have to direct industrial production towards sustainable solutions: reducing, repairing, reusing, recycling. These ethical actions should not be entrusted to individual common sense but should be seen as prerequisites for (sustainable) design. In addition, designers will increasingly have to consider the use of renewable and clean forms of energy (such as Sun and wind). Above all, they should be concerned with sustainable processes, from project to consumption. Only in this way, retracing the history of the product (from the extraction of raw materials to what will be at the end of its life cycle), will it be possible to attribute its true value to it. Designers, then, should have as their first objective social innovation: to really improve people’s lives. But this cannot be possible if the sustainable products of the future do not take on meaning within new sustainable scenarios that must be wisely projected. And this is the critical point: the battle for sustainability can only be won by communicating sustainable scenarios, behaviors, relationships, services, products... within which people can recognize themselves by feeling a sense of gratification.

Le nuove centralità sono le grandi aree funzio- nali individuate dallo schema di massima del Piano Regolatore Generale di Palermo per il 2025, opzionate in base al Piano strategico del- la città che le individua come punti di forza del sistema urbano rispetto al contesto regionale. Individuano le aree nelle quali sono localizzati i servizi di rango elevato che fanno della città un polo gravitazionale rispetto al suo ambito metropolitano. La loro funzione si dispiega anche a livello urbano, potenziando, rifunzio- nalizzando, o rilocalizzando, attività di servizio a scala urbana e sovralocale.

La città di Palermo ha una vocazione multiculturale ed è luogo dell’integrazione e dell’accoglienza. Questa sua caratteristica è confermata dalla partecipazione attiva e propositiva alla redazione della “Carta di Palermo” del 2015 sui temi della mobilità umana internazionale da parte di numerose organizzazioni non governative e realtà associative, accanto alle istituzioni pubbliche. Palermo, come modello positivo di contaminazione culturale e di città collaborativa, lancia la proposta di andare oltre il permesso di soggiorno per approdare al concetto di “cittadinanza di residenza”, riconoscendo il diritto alla mobilità come diritto della persona umana. La migrazione non deve essere considerata un problema ma una risorsa: dalla valorizzazione delle differenze culturali emerge l’uomo-cittadino, un soggetto attivo in grado di dare valore alla comunità e al luogo in cui risiede. La conoscenza reciproca, la parità di trattamento, la partecipazione democratica, la governance condivisa sono i principi base della città collaborativa, una città capace di offrire a tutti i cittadini spazi e servizi necessari a coltivare relazioni sociali, ad alimentare il senso di appartenenza ad una comunità, ad accrescere l’identità singola e collettiva, a prendersi cura dei cosiddetti beni comuni, ovvero i beni pubblici con valore sociale.

Di fronte ai profondi cambiamenti che coinvolgono le città italiane (accomunate a molte di quelle del sud Europa) alle nuove domande che emergono dalle comunità urbane sempre più responsabili e attive, ab-biamo bisogno di nuove risposte in grado di agire nella metamorfosi che stiamo attraversando. Serve un salto di paradigma per rispondere alle diverse e multiformi domande che derivano dalle quattro principali sfide delle città – tutte – nel XXI secolo: l’impatto della società della conoscenza e la rimodulazione della globalizzazione delle reti e dei flussi, la lotta ai cambiamenti climatici e la circolarità del metabolismo urba-no. Ho definito questo salto di paradigma “Città Aumentata” (Augmented City)3, perché lo intendo come un amplificatore di urbanità positiva, un dispositivo spaziale/culturale/sociale/economico per incrementa-re, migliorandole, le funzioni urbane per una vita, sia individuale che collettiva, sia informale che istituziona-le, fondata sul benessere, sull’equità, sulla sostenibilità e sulla collaborazione. Palermo, naturalmente, non si sottrae a questa sfida, anzi ne può diventare una avanguardia, una città di nuova generazione che ridefinisca uno spazio di incontro tra le dimensioni antropica e naturale: un nuovo equilibrio tra urbano e rurale, tra agricoltura e residenza, tra produzione e consumo. Progettare Palermo come città aumentata – in senso spaziale, sociale ed economico – di fronte alle nuove sfide del XXI seco-lo4 significa generare gli antidoti contro una urbanistica esclusivamente regolativa e non generativa, trop-po conformativa e non performativa, eccessivamente dirigista e non collaborativa. Palermo città aumenta-ta deve incrementare la sua forza innovativa e creativa come piattaforma abilitante, server di conoscenza e sistema operativo aperto dello sviluppo sostenibile. A partire dall’Augmented City Circle5, dalle sue dieci parole chiave e dimensioni, voglio qui proporre dieci mosse che consentano a Palermo di percorrere da protagonista la strada della transizione verso un ne-cessario modello di sviluppo ecologico.

We believe in the use of urban games to define new enjoyable experiences, change citizens’ unsustainable habits and educate them to new environment-and social-friendly ones. This paper presents MUV, an innovative action that has the power to engage citizens and foster sustainable mobility behaviors. MUV complements engaging HMIs with a participatory method within an iterative innovation process called the virtuous cycle (understand, involve, co-create, implement, experiment). The innovation process has led to a new game dynamic: Mobility as a Sport. It results in a rewarding personal mobility experience; the same rewarding sensations the athletes feel when they improve their results.

The publication ‘Pro-Innovation: Process Production Product’ collects essays and critical thoughts, research and experimentation on the subject of Innovation in the building and design industry, which can provide some starting points for debate for the international scientific community or show successful examples of innovation, sustainability and social inclusion. The papers are grouped into two sections (Architecture and Design) according to the scientific field they are referred to.

The critical knowledge of the complex urban context of Palermo has led the research group LabCity ARCHITECTURE to some observations, from a didactic and research point of view, on the theme of inter-active infrastructure as an interpretative and operative figure of project in the city. Thus the projects for the future stations Politeama, Porto and Libertà of the Railway Ring offer possibilities for urban connection at the same time as hybridization and integration of urban mobility system to public space.

This working paper investigates the question of changing people mobility towards more sustainable habits involving them in an engaging gameplay. The work is performed within MUV H2020 research and innovation action. The game design, definition and features have been co-created through the involvement of different citizens and stakeholders in six European neighbourhoods. The paper discusses the game design as resulting from co-creation and co-design experiences with each neighbourhood communities involved in initial phases. The paper argues that the local co-design activities have influenced the game definition, together with the community engagement approach. The MUV gameplay approach results thus a demand-side measure able to encouraging people to sustainable mobility modes in the awareness of their potential role as agents of urban livability. The data collected by the players will be used to support a citizen-centric approach to facilitate equity and mobility justice in urban policies.

This chapter examines Decision support systems (DSS) are instrumental in the sustainable development of urban mobility, as they are useful to each decision maker to better predict, evaluate, and measure the impact of alternative solutions and to take informed and evidence-based decisions. It presents a number of DSSs explaining how sustainable mobility targets could be reached through these systems. The chapter highlights the transition toward a more sustainable mobility model not only comprises innovation at vehicle or infrastructure level, but also requires interdisciplinary and cross-sectorial expertise together with effective decision making support. When a DSS for sustainable urban mobility is properly integrated with different modeling and simulation techniques, it becomes an effective tool for so-called scientific urban management, which means managing urban complexity with a strong scientific approach. The DSS could also help local administrators in defining and optimizing urban mobility policies and traffic regulations based on the analysis of electric vehicle impacts on air quality and noise levels.

Transport and mobility are crucial factors in the process of adaptation of contemporary urban areas to the challenge of sustainable development. In this perspective, however, cities need to perform a more effective integration between a wide range of different policies and planning practices. Together with a more effective integration between transport policy and land-use planning, for instance, cities could take growing advantage by organisational factors, as well as the spreading of new technologies and the related processes of social innovation. Through the description of several project and planning initiatives taking place in Palermo, the fifth Italian city, this paper attempts to explore the potential sinergies between the “hard factors” of mobility—in this case given by the huge programme of infrastructure redevelopment under realisation in the city—with some other dimensions, such as urban regeneration processes, governance and community-led processes of innovation.

Social science and new communication technologies are influencing deeply the transportation domain and new models of urban sustainable development are constantly emerging as new possible solutions. One of the principal reasons is the capability to reach the motivations that foster us to choose one or other urban transportation systems. It’s already feasible to develop solutions to aim the implementation and the rooting of more efficient and sustainable habits in urban transportation. The present exploratory paper presents the activities conducted by innovation lab PUSH, with the Italian Ministry of Innovation and Research, for the development and the application of the social innovation project “trafficO2” in the city of Palermo Italy. The project is a technology driven (a mobile app) serious game for sustainable urban mobility that tries to foster citizens, through information and tailor made incentives, to choose low emission means instead of using cars. In a very controversial context given by the urban mobility of the city of Palermo, aim of the game is to build a strong and values driven self-organized community, able to change the actual urban condition without any command and control policies or any structural transformation. The system was already tested twice with the community of students of the Palermo University; the paper shows the first results in terms of CO2 reduction and testers engagement.

This chapter presents the social innovation project “TrafficO2”, a support system for decision-making in the field of transportation that tries to push commuters towards more sustainable mobility by providing concrete incentives for each responsible choice. After focusing on Palermo, Italy, the context of this case study, this chapter provides a detailed description of the TrafficO2 model. Specifically, the chapter deals with the analysis of a selected sample of users among Palermo University students who commute daily to their respective University departments on campus. Starting from the modal split of the actual situation (Status Quo scenario), another behavior scenario (Do your right mix) is designed and promoted to encourage users to create a better mix of existing mobility means and reduce the use of private vehicles powered by combustibles. The first test that was performed confirmed the reliability of the initiative.

The European Union, to reach the objective of the emission reduction, has introduced several projects, including the “Convenant of Mayors”, vo-luntary action aimed to involve the cities of the European Community in the process towards environmental and enrgetic sustainability. Over 2100 muni-cipalities in Europe have joined or are in the process of ratification, but for the 954 italians signatories, only four have drawn up the required tools. The case study "Lampedusa" (presented by the writer as a master's thesis CasaClima - speaker arch. Fattor S., Co-prof. Trombino) comes from the de-sire to measure, in a Sicilian reality, multidisci-disciplinary approaches to de-fine strategic planning actions aimed at the objectives of the Covenant and demonstrate how this innovation generate more complex dynamics of regional renewal. The study shows how, through a policy of sustainable de-velopment, the island could reach energy independence by 2030 (CO2 emissions to zero), and retraining services related to tourism
