Abstract

Three independent searches for an electric dipole moment (EDM) of the positive and negative muons have been performed, using spin precession data from the muon g-2 storage ring at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Details on the experimental apparatus and the three analyses are presented. Since the individual results on the positive and negative muon, as well as the combined result, d=-0.1(0.9)E-19 e-cm, are all consistent with zero, we set a new muon EDM limit, |d| < 1.9E-19 e-cm (95% C.L.). This represents a factor of 5 improvement over the previous best limit on the muon EDM., Comment: 19 pages, 15 figures, 7 tables

Abstract

The cross section of the process e+e- -> pi+pi- has been measured at the CMD-2 detector in the 370-520 MeV center-of-mass (c.m.) energy range. A systematic uncertainty of the measurement is 0.7 %. Using all CMD-2 data on the pion form factor, the pion electromagnetic radius was calculated. The cross section of muon pair production was also determined., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

15. Enhanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding in BiFeO3–graphene oxide nanocomposites over X-band frequency region.

Abstract

BiFeO3–graphene oxide (BFO–GO) nanocomposites were synthesized through ultra-sonication under mild heating, and their electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance was investigated. The nanocomposites preserve the crystalline phase with R3c symmetry as analyzed by Rietveld refinement of x-ray diffraction data. The Raman spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies confirm the formation of structured GO in nanocomposites samples. Magnetic hysteresis curves indicate unsaturated magnetic behavior. The interfacial polarization is dominating in BFO–GO composites as estimated from frequency dependent complex parameters determined in line with the Nicolson–Ross–Weir algorithm. The BFO–GO nanocomposites showed EMI shielding effectiveness of 18 dB (93% attenuation) over the measured frequency range. The oxide composite is a suitable EMI shielding material for techno-commercial applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In the present study, nanocrystals of cadmium telluride (CdTe) have been directly synthesized in poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) matrix without use of any surfactant. In situ synthesis of nanoparticles in polymer matrix improves the polymer-nanoparticles interface, which facilitates efficient electronic interaction between them. Spectral results suggest that CdTe nanocrystals are bound with P3HT via dipole-dipole interaction and form a charge transfer complex. Structural and morphological studies reveal that CdTe works as transport media along/between the polymer chains, which facilitate percolation pathways for charge transport. Therefore, enhancement in current density has been observed for the bulk heterojunction (BHJ) device of P3HT-CdTe nanocomposites blended with PCBM. An open circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.80 V was obtained from the BHJ device due to the increase in the energy level offset between the donor and acceptor. This new photovoltaic element could provide a new nanoscale criterion for the investigation of photoinduced energy/charge transport in organic-inorganic interfaces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The present manuscript demonstrates the hole transport mechanism in an organic/inorganic hybrid system based on in-situ grown cadmium telluride (CdTe) nanocrystals in a poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) matrix. The increase of hole current in the hybrid system is correlated with the formation of a host-guest (P3HT-CdTe) charge transfer complex duly supported by photoluminescence quenching. The hole transport mechanism in P3HT is governed by a space charge limited current with temperature, carrier density, and field dependent mobility. Incorporation of CdTe nanocrystals in a polymer matrix results in enhancement in the value of trap density Hb from 2.8 × 1018 to 5.0 × 1018 cm-3 and reduction in activation energies from 52 meV to 11 meV. At high trap density, trap potential wells start overlapping; this results in decrease of activation energies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Nanocomposites of polyaniline with barium ferrite and titanium dioxide (TiO2) are synthesized via in situ emulsion polymerization. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution TEM result shows the formation of array of nanoparticles encapsulated within the polymer chains during the synthesis process. The high value of microwave absorption, 58 dB (>99.999% attenuation) results from the combined effect of the nanoparticles and the polymer matrix. The amount of barium ferrite has the profound effect on permittivity ([variant_greek_epsilon]), permeability (μ), and microwave absorption of the nanocomposite. The contribution to the absorption value comes mainly due the magnetic losses (μ″) in barium ferrite and dielectric losses ([variant_greek_epsilon]″) in TiO2 and polyaniline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The muon anomalous magnetic moment measurement, when compared with theory, can be used to test many extensions to the standard model. The most recent measurement made by the Brookhaven E821 Collaboration reduces the uncertainty on the world average of a_mu to 0.7 ppm, comparable in precision to theory.
