The wear behaviour of AISI 316LN austenitic stainless steel has been studied by varying the duration of nitriding. AISI 316LN steel was nitrided using salt bath nitriding which consist of a mixture of 70:30 ratio of alkaline cynates and carbonates. Nitriding was carried out for two time durations namely 60 min and 100 min. Pin-on-Disc wear test were carried out for both the untreated and treated sample at room temperature. The wear parameters were changed to understand the wear mechanism of AISI 316LN steel along with the nitrided sample by varying the sliding distance for 250 m, 500 m and 1000 m. Due to the presence of different wear mechanism the rate of wear varies as a function of sliding distance. For untreated sample the wear mechanism was dominant with adhesion, abrasion and plastic deformation. An optical micrograph, X-ray diffraction analysis, wear morphology, hardness measurement and surface roughness were carried out. Due to the presence of compound layer as a result of nitriding AISI 316LN austenitic stainless steel, the mechanism of wear was restricted to abrasive wear. Untreated specimens have more significant wear loss when compared to treated specimen as work hardening and an increase in hardness of wear track resulted in material pull out. Stability of the compound layer is achieved as a result of longer duration of nitriding. Abrasive wear is resisted to a greater extend due the availability of compound layer. AISI 316LN steel which was nitrided for 100 min exhibited a more stable compound layer when compared to the same nitrided for 60 min.

Exposure of the engine valve to high temperatures led to the degradation of the valve material due to microstructural instability and deteriorating mechanical properties. Performance enhancement and alteration in microstructures can be attained through the powder metallurgy route which is a viable method to produce near net shape components. In this current study, the development of austenitic stainless steel (21-4N) through the powder metallurgy route as an alternate material for engine valves was investigated. Mechanical alloying was carried out for the pre-alloyed mixtures and consolidated using vacuum hot pressing. Sintering parameters were fixed at 1200 °C, 50 MPa and at a vacuum level of 10-3 Torr. A scanning electron microscope was used to analyze the morphology of the milled powders. Densities for the hot pressed powders were compared with theoretical densities and found to be around 98–99%. Observations regarding grain size, the presence of austenitic grain, heterogeneous distribution of metal carbides and analysis of chemical composition along the metal matrix were determined using both optical and electron microscopes. X-ray diffraction was carried out for both the consolidated and powder samples. The hot pressed samples exhibited a hardness value of 410 ± 10 Hv. An isothermal compression test for the sintered samples was carried out at a temperature of 650 °C and strain rate of 0.001 s−1. It is showed that the compressive strength of 1380 MPa. An analysis between the room temperature yield strength obtained from hardness measurement and the strengthening mechanism based on the microstructure was conducted. Grain size, dislocation and solid solution are the major strengthening mechanisms which strengthen the material. Overall, the development of valve steel material through the powder metallurgy route exhibited improved metallurgical and mechanical properties in comparison to the corresponding cast product.

The oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) ferritic steels are one of the most important in fuel cladding materials for 4th Generation nuclear reactors because of their excellent mechanical properties such as irradiation resistance, swelling resistance, and elevated temperature tensile/compressive strength. Mechanical alloying (MA) is one of the most promising routes for developing nanocrystalline ferritic ODS steel materials. For the production of nanocrystalline ferritic ODS steel powders, the most influencing factor is the milling speed and milling time during the mechanical alloying process. With the improper selection of milling time and speed, the final milled powders become an amorphous structure consisting of high impurity inclusions in the microstructure, and strength was also affected. In order to overcome these drawbacks, the present investigation was taken into account for the selection of appropriate mechanical milling speed and time, which was optimized through Taguchi analysis followed by the MA process. The optimized mechanical milling speed and time of milled powders were characterized through X-Ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).

We present an empirical study in which model-based testing (MBT) was applied to a mobile system: the Android client of QuizUp, the largest mobile trivia game in the world. The study shows that traditional MBT approaches based on extended finite-state machines can be used to test a mobile app in an effective and efficient way. Non-trivial defects were detected on a deployed system that has millions of users and was already well tested. The duration of the overall testing effort was of three months, including the construction of the models. Maintaining a single behavioral model for the app was key in order to test it in an efficient way.

The present article investigates the fabrication of oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) ferritic stainless steel (FSS). Three different ODS alloys with three different Al contents were fabricated, where the presence of Al-based oxides play a crucial role in determining the size of the oxide particles. Due to Ostwald ripening, the samples with Al show coarser oxide particles compared to the alloy without Al, which hampers the density of the fabricated samples and, hence, have reduced hardness levels. The present results suggest that the composition of the oxide present in ODS plays a crucial role in determining the properties of these samples.

Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected the healthcare delivery system in both developed and developing countries. Many antenatal women skipped their regular antenatal check-ups due to fear of viral contamination and lack of transport facilities. Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), which plays a major role in antenatal care, also suffered a great deal during the pandemic., Objectives: 1. To assess knowledge and utilization of ICDS services by antenatal women during the COVID-19 pandemic. 2. To determine factors influencing the knowledge and utilization of ICDS services by antenatal women. 3. To determine the barriers to utilization of ICDS services during the pandemic., Methodology: This study was conducted as a descriptive study in a tertiary care center. Antenatal women whose pregnancy period coincided with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic were interviewed using a structured questionnaire. The sample size was calculated as 198. Data were entered in Microsoft Excel and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)., Results: Around 61% of the study population had adequate knowledge about ICDS services. The proportion of antenatal women utilizing ICDS services reduced from 87.8% to 69.6% during the pandemic. Only a few of the mothers were followed up by the Anganwadi workers during the pandemic. The main barriers to not utilizing ICDS services were fear of the spread of the pathogen and lack of awareness about the availability of services during the pandemic., Conclusion: There has been a reduction in the utilization of ICDS services by antenatal women during the COVID-19 pandemic. Herein, the performance of asymmetric supercapacitors (ASC) fabricated using ZnCo 2 O 4 (ZCO) nano-hexagons and orange peel-derived activated carbon (OPAC) as electrodes was studied. ZCO was prepared by a double hydroxide method and OPAC was prepared from orange peel followed by KOH activation. For ZCO, the calcination temperature was determined using TGA analysis. The XRD showed the presence of a cubic spinel structure. The chemical structure was analyzed using XPS, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy respectively. For OPAC, the presence of an amorphous nature was inferred; FTIR and Raman studies indicate the presence of functional groups and defect structure in the material. The presence of ZCO nano-hexagons was observed from SEM and TEM respectively. For OPAC, an interconnected pore structure was observed from the SEM image. The specific capacitance for ZCO and OPAC was found to be 194 F.g -1 and 159 F.g -1 at a current density of 0.25 A.g -1 . Further, an ASC was fabricated using ZCO as a positive and OPAC as a negative electrode in 2M KOH-soaked separator. A cell voltage of 1.2 V was achieved and the specific capacitance was calculated to be 64 F.g -1 at 0.25 A.g -1 . Enhanced thermal, chemical, and mechanical properties of different metal nanoparticle morphologies integrated with metal oxides have been reported in multiple instances. The chemical and material robustness of metal nanoparticles incorporated surficially and into the bulk of distinct as well as spontaneously formed morphologies of metal oxides through solution-based and microwave-based approaches are investigated in this study. These composites were tested for their chemical and material robustness by exposing films formed on quartz substrates to high temperatures (800 °C) in an air ambient as well as to extreme conditions of pH, often encountered in harsh environment applications such as sensing and catalysis. The changes in the optical properties and crystallinity have been studied using in situ absorption and ex situ X-ray diffraction analyses and electron microscopy. The trends observed with respect to the changes in the plasmonic absorbance were validated theoretically and found to be in reasonable agreement with the experimental data. Confirmations of the phenomena occurring in different morphologies and architectures were thereby corroborated through careful interpretations from experiments and predictions from theoretical models. We, therefore, report a simple solution-based process for achieving engineered harsh environment-compatible nanocomposites through studies specifically tailored for such applications such as catalysis, sensing, energy storage, and enhanced luminescence.

Drugs that selectively kill senescent cells (senolytics) improve the outcomes of cancer, fibrosis and age-related diseases. Despite their potential, our knowledge of the molecular pathways that affect the survival of senescent cells is limited. To discover senolytic targets, we performed RNAi screens and identified coatomer complex I (COPI) vesicle formation as a liability of senescent cells. Genetic or pharmacological inhibition of COPI results in Golgi dispersal, dysfunctional autophagy, and unfolded protein response-dependent apoptosis of senescent cells, and knockdown of COPI subunits improves the outcomes of cancer and fibrosis in mouse models. Drugs targeting COPI have poor pharmacological properties, but we find that N-myristoyltransferase inhibitors (NMTi) phenocopy COPI inhibition and are potent senolytics. NMTi selectively eliminated senescent cells and improved outcomes in models of cancer and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Our results suggest that senescent cells rely on a hyperactive secretory apparatus and that inhibiting trafficking kills senescent cells with the potential to treat various senescence-associated diseases., (© 2023. Musculoskeletal chronic pain is prevalent in individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD); however, it remains largely untreated in these patients, raising the possibility that pain mechanisms are perturbed. Here, we utilise the TASTPM transgenic mouse model of AD with the K/BxN serum transfer model of inflammatory arthritis. We show that in male and female WT mice, inflammatory allodynia is associated with a distinct spinal cord microglial response characterised by TLR4-driven transcriptional profile and upregulation of P2Y12. Dorsal horn nociceptive afferent terminals release the TLR4 ligand galectin-3 (Gal-3), and intrathecal injection of a Gal-3 inhibitor attenuates allodynia. In contrast, TASTPM mice show reduced inflammatory allodynia, which is not affected by the Gal-3 inhibitor and correlates with the emergence of a P2Y12 - TLR4 - microglia subset in the dorsal horn. We suggest that sensory neuron-derived Gal-3 promotes allodynia through the TLR4-regulated release of pro-nociceptive mediators by microglia, a process that is defective in TASTPM due to the absence of TLR4 in a microglia subset., (© 2023. The application of plasmonic nanoparticles is motivated by the phenomenon of surface plasmon resonance. Owing to the tunability of optothermal properties and enhanced stability, these nanostructures show a wide range of applications in optical sensors, steam generation, water desalination, thermal energy storage, and biomedical applications such as photothermal (PT) therapy. The PT effect, that is, the conversion of absorbed light to heat by these particles, has led to thriving research regarding the utilization of plasmonic nanoparticles for a myriad of applications. The design of conventional nanomaterials for PT conversion has focussed predominantly on the manipulation of photon absorption through bandgap engineering, doping, incorporation, and modification of suitable matrix materials. Plasmonic nanomaterials offer an alternative and attractive approach in this regard, through the flexibility in the excitation of surface plasmons. Specific advantages are the considerable improved bandwidth of the absorption, a higher efficiency of photon absorption, facile tuning, as well as flexibility in the synthesis of plasmonic nanomaterials. This review of plasmonic PT (PPT) research begins with a theoretical discussion on the plasmonic properties of nanoparticles by means of the quasi-static approximation, Mie theory, Gans theory, generic simulations on common plasmonic material morphologies, and the evaluation processes of PT performance. Further, a variety of nanomaterials and material classes that have potential for PPT conversion are elucidated, such as plasmonic metals, bimetals, and metal-metal oxide nanocomposites. A detailed investigation of the essential, but often ignored, concept of thermal, chemical, and aggregation stability of nanoparticles is another part of this review. The challenges that remain, as well as prospective directions and chemistries, regarding nanomaterials for PT conversion are pondered on in the final section of the article, taking into account the specific requirements from different applications., (Copyright © 2023, Indhu et al.)
