16. Corporate Users' Attachment to Social Networking Sites: Examining the Role of Social Capital and Perceived Benefits.

Abstract

The debate on the pros and cons of employee attachment to social networking sites (SNS) has led to social media policy paralysis in many organizations, and often a prohibition on employee use of SNS. This paper examines corporate users' attachment to SNS. An analysis of 316 survey responses showed that corporate users' socialization in large public SNS was steeped in perceived work-related benefits, which in turn nourished their SNS attachment. Social use outperformed informational use in generating perceived work-related benefits from SNS. Weak ties in large heterogeneous networks resulted in strategic and operational benefits, whereas the effects of strong bonding in homogenous networks were limited to operational benefits. The paper contributes to research on SNS use by corporate users and the debate on the effect of SNS use for work. The findings will benefit SNS strategists of organizations and policymakers to exploit the benefit potential of public SNS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

20. Securing IoT Devices Using Zero Trust and Blockchain.

Abstract

The benefits ushered through the use of IoT come with its share of security concerns. IoT networks are heterogeneous and existing network security tools and controls are inadequate for them. The IoT devices and the data transmitted to and from these devices remain exposed to a multitude of threats. In this paper, we review the security concerns involved in the implementation of IoT and propose a framework for security of IoT devices based on Zero Trust and blockchain. A risk-based segmentation of IoT network increases the homogeneity of IoT device attributes and communication protocols. Zero Trust extends the perimeter of trust beyond the IT/OT network. Blockchain improves the device identification and access control capabilities of the IoT network. We support the conceptual framework with a case study on the implementation of IoT security using Zero Trust and blockchain. We provide a risk-scoring method and a five-point recommendation for management of IoT security. Our proposed IoT security framework will help implementors of IoT to overcome existing security concerns and will benefit academic researchers and practitioners alike. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Digital social networking (DSN) sites have attracted users pervading geographical, cultural, demographic, social and economic boundaries. DSN adoption has by far surpassed other information systems implementations and introduced novel opportunities to users in communication, information exchange, and human interaction as an individual, in a group, in communities and organizational networks. DSN offers unique features and opportunities compared to offline social networking. In consequence, the size of social network and the quality of network ties formed on DSN are different from those on offline social networks. The findings of this exploratory research upset the established bridging/bonding social capital factors based on network tie strength which served as the basis for academic studies and introduces factors on the functional view of social capital. It establishes the notion that DSN has introduced novel opportunities compared to previous instances of information systems which necessitated a revisit of established information systems theories and epistemology.
