Familial acute myeloid leukemia is rare and linked to germline mutations in RUNX1 GATA2 or CCAAT/enhancer binding protein a (CEBPA). We re evaluated a large family with acute myeloid leukemia originally seen at NIH in 1969. We used whole exome sequencing to study this family and conducted in silico bioinformatics analysis protein structural modeling and laboratory experiments to assess the impact of the identified CEBPA Q311P mutation. Unlike most previously identified germline mutations in CEBPA which were N terminal frameshift mutations we identified a novel Q311P variant that was located in the C terminal bZip domain of C/EBPa. Protein structural modeling suggested that the Q311P mutation alters the ability of the CEBPA dimer to bind DNA. Electrophoretic mobility shift assays showed that the Q311P mu tant had attenuated binding to DNA as predicted by the protein modeling. Consistent with these findings we found that the Q311P mutation has reduced transactivation consistent with a loss of function mutation. From 45 years of follow up we observed incomplete penetrance (46) of CEBPA Q311P. This study of a large multi generational pedigree reveals that a germline mutation in the C terminal bZip domain can alter the ability of C/EBP a to bind DNA and reduces transactivation leading to acute myeloid leukemia.

The influence of the periodic profile dimensions and absorber layer thickness on the short circuit current and quantum efficiencies was analyzed. The optics of the solar cell was calculated by using a finite difference time domain approach to solve the Maxwell’s equations. The short circuit current of the solar cells on smooth substrates (without texturing) is used as a reference to investigate the influence of the surface textures. Optimal dimensions of the triangular gratings were found for periods in the range of the incident wavelength. The fundamental optical losses in the solar cell were also analyzed. By identifying these key losses, strategies to minimize the losses will be derived.

Movements at the human shoulder girdle are the result of complex interplay of glenohumeral, acromioclavicular, sternoclavicular and scapulothoracic articulations. Clavicle apart from articulating with the scapula and sternum is also connected with first rib by costoclavicular ligament and with coracoid process by coracoclavicular ligament. At times the area of attachment of these ligaments on clavicle, first rib and scapula show faceted apophysis suggesting the presence of additional diarthrodial articulations. Costoclavicular joint exists between clavicle and first rib and coracoclavicular joint between clavicle and coracoids process. Both these joints are described in the literature, but the concurrent occurrence of them in the same bone has not been reported yet. We found two clavicles, one of right and other of left side, both of them showed faceted apophysis for costoclavicular and coracoclavicular joint simultaneously, which is rare phenomenon. Los movimientos de la cintura escapular humana son el resultado de la interacción compleja de las articulaciones glenohumeral, acromioclavicular, esternoclavicular y escapulotorácica. La clavícula, aparte de la articulación con la escápula y el esternón también está conectada con la primera costilla por el ligamento costoclavicular y con el proceso coracoides por el ligamento coracoclavicular. A veces la zona de unión de estos ligamentos de la clavícula, la primera costilla y la escápula muestran procesos facetarios que sugieren la presencia de nuevas articulaciones diartrodiales. La articulación costoclavicular existe entre la primera costilla y la clavícula y la articulación coracoclavicular entre la clavícula y proceso coracoides. Ambas articulaciones están descritas en la literatura, pero la aparición simultánea de ellas en el mismo hueso no se ha informado aún. Se encontraron dos clavículas, uno del lado derecho y otra del lado izquierdo, las dos presentaron procesos facetarios para las articulaciones costoclavicular y coracoclavicular simultáneamente, lo cual es un fenómeno raro.

24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference, 21-25 September 2009, Hamburg, Germany; 2989-2992, Screen printed silver nanoparticles were investigated as an alternative contact material for thin film solar cells. Front contact grids based on silver pastes were screen printed on smooth and rough aluminum doped zincoxide and indium tin oxide films. The size of the silver particles in the silver paste was varied from 5 nm to several micrometers and the influence of the annealing conditions on the specific contact resistance was studied. The formation of electrical contacts on transparent conductive oxides (TCO) depends on the surface roughness of the TCO films. Our experiments suggest that an increasing roughness leads to an increasing specific contact resistance. The specific contact resistance of silver nanoparticle pastes does not seem to suffer as much, when printed on rough surfaces.

The aquaculture sector has been playing an increasingly dominating role in Indian fisheries scenario since the last two and half decades. Introduction of induced breeding and composite fish culture (CFC) technologies has changed the freshwater aquaculture sector in India. Institutional support has been one of the most crucial aspects in all fisheries development programs, more so in the Indian context where most of fish farmers are socially and economically weak. The innovation of CFC technology in freshwater aquaculture sector in the early seventies generated the need for adequate and effective institutional support to farmers. Under the freshwater aquaculture development program, the Fish Farmers Development Agencies (FFDA) have been established at district level to provide technical and extension support to the farming community besides arranging ponds on lease and supply of seeds. In addition to above, FFDAs are also expected to arrange loans from banks and provide subsidies. Thus, FFDAs are meant to provide institutional support to fish farming community in the country. In view of the above, an effort was made to study the adequacy and effectiveness of institutional support provided by the FFDA, Mirzapur for the development of aquaculture in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh {U.P.), India. Study reveals that leasing of ponds for fish farming has been favourable to economically weaker sections of societies while bank loan accessibility is more for those having relatively higher economic status. Though the FFDA, Mirzapur performed well in providing training to potential fish farmers and creating awareness about fish farming, its effectiveness could not be equally seen in seed supply.

Aquaculture can be considered as a rapidly growing sector in many Indian states including Uttar Pradesh. The impressive overall upward trend in fish production is likely to continue in future years as there are plenty of unutilized or underutilized fishery resources in the state. In spite of the growing popularity of aquaculture in the state, fish farmers have been experiencing financial, social and technical constraints in fish farming practices. These constraints are adversely affecting farmers in obtaining expected fish yields and income. In this study, the most common problem areas were identified, analysed and ranked on the basis of farmers' perception.
