Esthesioneuroblastoma, also called olfactory neuroblastoma, is a rare malignant tumor originating in the olfactory epithelium in the upper nasal cavity with intracranial extension and may also be associated with secondary sinus diseases. Esthesioneuroblastoma has been observed to cause death by distant metastasis or by invasion through the cribriform plate and secondary meningitis. It usually produces nasal obstruction, epistaxis and less commonly anosmia, headache and pain. Cysticercosis cellulosae, caused by the larval stage of Taenia solium is a common parasitic infection in Indian subcontinent. Although cysticercosis is common in other parts of the human body, its involvement with temporalis muscle is an extremely rare entity and demands documentation. This paper reports a case of cysticercosis cellulosae in a 35-year-old male patient within the temporalis muscle mimicking temporal space infection; due to the presence of concomitant dental infection, which was diagnosed with the help of high resolution ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging and managed conservatively using oral antiparasitic medication. Dental anomalies include variations in number, size, eruption or morphology of the teeth. These anomalies can be divided into developmental abnormalities and acquired abnormalities. Traumatic injuries to primary dentition may interfere with the development of permanent dentition and lead to such anomalies. Dilacerations, odontoma formations, enamel hypoplasia and periapical cysts can occur after trauma in the teeth which are in their developing stage. We present a case of a 14 year old female patient with a rare manifestation of four entities i.e. odontoma, dilacerations, enamel hypoplasia and periapical cyst highlighting the role of recent diagnostic modalities in its diagnosis and explaining the management aspects to be taken into consideration while dealing with a combination of such clinical entities. Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is rare benign lesions of bone which are infrequent in craniofacial skeleton. ABC's are characterized by rapid growth pattern with resultant bony expansion and facial asymmetry. We describe a case of ABC in a 25 year old male patient affecting the body of the mandible with expansion and thinning of the buccal and lingual cortical plates. Treatment consisted of surgical curettage of the lesion. A one year follow- up showed restoration of facial symmetry and complete healing of the involved site. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Talon cusp is a dental anomaly that occurs as an accessory cusp like structure from the cingulum of maxillary or mandibular anterior teeth. Dens invaginatus is a developmental variation which arises as a result of an invagination on the surface of a tooth crown before calcification has occurred. An unusual case of multiple talon cusps affecting the maxillary central incisors and the canines bilaterally together with other dental abnormalities viz dens invaginatus affecting the maxillary lateral incisors, microdontia, short roots, reduced alveolar bone height, dilaceration of the described posterior teeth, anterior open bite and bilateral posterior cross bite in a 35 year old male. The presence of these dental anomalies in a single patient is very rare and this is perhaps the first case report of this nature. None of these anomalies alone are particularly uncommon but they have not previously been reported together. The occurrence of these anomalies is probably incidental as the conditions are aetiologically unrelated and no developmental syndrome was identified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is an uncommon benign odontogenic lesion that affects young patients, with female predominance, mainly in second decade, representing approximately 3% of all odontogenic tumors. It is of interest that in about 74% of cases, this tumor is associated with an unerupted tooth, and in over two third of cases associated with maxillary (65%) or mandibular canine (35%). Very rarely the lesion occurs without any impacted tooth. In this report a case of adenomatoid odontogenic tumor of right side of mandible in the canine premolar region not associated with an impacted tooth in a 14 years old female patient is described. The article describes the case of a 38-year-old man who experienced vision loss and intraoral manifestations secondary to maxillary sinus lymphoma. The patient complained of sharp and continuous pain on his upper right posterior teeth radiating to the right temporal region. Extra oral examination on the patient revealed antero-posterior swelling from the ala of the nose to four centimeters before the tragus of the ear. He underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Objective: Radiography is one of the most valuable diagnostic tools used in comprehensive dental care. Although there is no safe level of radiation exposure, the possible risk associated with exposure to radiation, must be elucidated. To date, a variety of assays have been proposed to assess the mutagenic potential of genotoxicants; however, these methods are typically laborious and time consuming. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible genotoxic effect of routinely used panoramic radiation exposure in exfoliated epithelial cells as measured by the formation of micronuclei and to compare the genotoxicity of X-rays on keratinized epithelial gingival cells and the nonkeratinized buccal epithelial cells., Materials and Methods: The study included 53 healthy individuals with a mean age of 25.21 ±12.67 years. Specimens of exfoliated epithelial cells were collected from patients subjected to panoramic radiography before and 10 days after radiation exposure. The cells were stained with Giemsa and evaluated for micronuclei by scoring 1000 cells per slide., Results: In our study, the genotoxic effect of radiation exposure from panoramic radiography showed a statistically significant increase in the MN frequency in buccal epithelial cells. A significant correlation was observed between the age of the subjects and micronuclei, although no such correlation was found between gender and micronuclei count., Conclusion: MN test serves as a simple biomarker indicating the direct exposure to DNA damaging agents such as ionizing radiation, emphasizing great sensitivity even for exposure to low doses during radiation screening. Thus, panoramic dental radiography should be cautiously used only when necessary.
