Sustainable energy policies are directly proportional to countries' achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Economies that want to achieve their 2030 and 2050 targets are looking for alternative energy sources until renewable energy sources mature. In this context, this study models the environmental quality of France, which is the leader in the use of nuclear energy in Europe, from a different perspective through nuclear energy technologies. This study empirically uses the novel Fourier asymmetric autoregressive distributed lag approach. It confirms that increases and decreases in nuclear technology have different effects on the load capacity factor within the framework of the load capacity curve (LCC) hypothesis. It also provides evidence for the existence of the LCC hypothesis and offers sustainable energy policies for France. The French government should allocate funds to cleaner energies instead of investing in nuclear energy technologies. Thus, the long‐term transition to a low‐carbon economy can be accelerated instead of short‐term targets. By eliminating nuclear energy, a severe burden on the French economy, infrastructure can be created for alternative energy sources. Finally, the French government can gain momentum in achieving SDGs 7 and 13 by withdrawing support from nuclear energy technologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research investigates the relationship between clean energy stock and oil market returns utilizing Granger predictability in distribution and quantile impulse response analysis. We find that clean energy stock returns Granger predict oil price returns during "normal times" based on the distribution's center, but not vice versa. During bullish market episodes, there is bidirectional Granger predictability between the returns of clean energy stocks and oil market returns. Nonetheless, we find that clean energy stock returns Granger predict oil returns in bearish markets without any evidence of the contrary. This indicates that oil returns cannot be used to hedge the downside risk associated with renewable energy company purchases. Quantile impulse responses for the relationship between clean energy stocks and the crude oil market reveal bidirectional and significant responses, where a negative shock during an extremely down market reveals a negative response in the other market and a positive shock during an extremely up market reveals a significant positive response. Recent Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) reports have highlighted the inadequacy of environmental sustainability efforts. Thus, it is clear that current efforts towards environmental sustainability (SDG 13) and affordable and clean energy (SDG 7) policies are insufficient and a comprehensive policy agenda is needed. Existing literature limitedly addresses the determinants of environmental sustainability but relatively ignores the impact of nuclear energy research and development investments (NCI) and green environment on environmental quality. The motivation of this study is to fill this research gap and propose an overarching policy structure to achieve SDGs. In this context, this study investigates the effects of green environment, economic growth, human capital, and NCI on environmental sustainability comparatively for the United States and France through the Asymmetric Autoregressive Distributed Lag, which considers structural break. Based on the empirical analysis results, economic growth and trade openness harm environmental sustainability, while positive shocks in NCI improve environmental quality in both countries. Negative NCI shocks deteriorate environmental quality in the United States but not France. This study attempts to investigate how Germany's energy transition has affected environmental quality by considering natural resources, economic growth, financial development, and financial globalization for the period from 1980 to 2021. It is also aimed to discover that the interactions alter with different levels of load capacity factor and explanatory variables using novel quantile-based approaches. Thanks to the unique approaches utilized, the environmental efficacy of the energy transition process can be determined for different quantiles and time periods. The results reveal that although financial globalization and financial development enhance environmental quality, economic growth and increasing natural resource rents harms environment. In addition, the increase in energy transition in all quantiles also has a positive effect on the load capacity. This impact is weak in quantiles with high and low environmental quality, but it becomes more pronounced in middle quantiles of load capacity. Our study offers various policy recommendations to increase the short- and long-term low-level environmental effectiveness of the energy transition process in Germany. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
