Abstract

In this paper we review the different relativistic and QED contributions to energies, ionic radii, transition probabilities and Land\'e $g$-factors in super-heavy elements, with the help of the MultiConfiguration Dirac-Fock method (MCDF). The effects of taking into account the Breit interaction to all orders by including it in the self-consistent field process are demonstrated. State of the art radiative corrections are included in the calculation and discussed. We also study the non-relativistic limit of MCDF calculation and find that the non-relativistic offset can be unexpectedly large., Comment: V3, May 31st, 2007

2. X-ray energies of circular transitions and electrons screening in kaonic atoms

Abstract

The QED contribution to the energies of the circular (n,l=n-1), 2 ≤ n ≤ 19 transitions have been calculated for several kaonic atoms throughout the periodic table, using the current world average kaon mass. Calculations were done in the framework of the Klein-Gordon equation, with finite nuclear size and all-order Uelhing vacuum polarization corrections, as well as Kallen and Sabry and Wichmann and Kroll corrections. These energy level values are compared with other computed values. The circular transition energies are compared with available measured and theoretical transition energy. Electron screening is evaluated using a Dirac-Fock model for the electronic part of the wave function. The effect of electronic wavefunction correlation is evaluated for the first time.

PEstOE/FIS/UI0303/2011 PTDC/FIS/117606/2010 PTDC/FIS-AQM/31969/2017 UID/FIS/04559/2019 SFRH/BD/52332/2013 Contract No. EMMI HA-216 Hubert Curien PESSOA 38028UD PAUILF 2017-C08 Grant No. 01 3 0002 Grant No. ANR-06-BLAN-0223 Grant No. 70NANB15H051 We have measured the widths and energies of the 1s2s2p2P1/2,3/2→1s22s2S1/2 transitions in lithiumlike sulfur and argon, as well as the energies of the forbidden 1s2s2p4P5/2→1s22s2S1/2 M2 transition in both elements. All measurements were performed with a double-flat-crystal spectrometer without the use of any reference line. The transition energy measurements have accuracies ranging from 2.3 to 6.4 ppm depending on the element and line intensity. The widths and the intensity ratios of the 1s2s2p2P1/2,3/2→1s22s2S1/2 lines have also been measured. These are reference-free measurements of transitions in core-excited lithiumlike ions and have an accuracy comparable to the best relative measurements. We have also performed multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock calculations of the widths, energies, and intensity ratios. An extensive comparison between existing experimental results and theory is performed, and Bayesian techniques are employed to extract the energy of the 1s2p24P1/2→1s22p2P1/2 transition in sulfur and identify contaminant transitions. publishersversion published

Abstract

We have determined the gJ-factor of the Ca+ ion in the electronic 4S½ ground state on a cloud of ions confined in a Penning trap with a superimposed magnetic field of 1.43 T. We use a c.w. laser to prepare a Zeeman substate by optical pumping and induce ΔmJ = 1 transitions by a resonant microwave field at 40 GHz. Resonance is detected by a change in the fluorescence intensity originating from the ion cloud. We obtain a full width in the resonance of a few kHz and the fractional uncertainty of the line center, taking the average of several measurements, was 4 x 10-8. After calibrating the magnetic field by the cyclotron frequency of electrons stored in the same trap we obtain as result gJ = 2.002 256 64(9). The result is supported by a relativistic Multi-Configurational Dirac-Fock calculation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We investigate relativistic effects on the Landé gJ factors of atomic ions using Multiconfiguration Dirac–Fock technique and Relativistic Many-Body perturbation theory. The role of Breit interaction, negative energy continuum and correlation effects is studied in Li-like, B-like, N-like ions and Ca+ ground-states. We also investigate Ti-like ions which have a long-lived excited state with J=4. Those ions are all good candidates for employing the continuous Stern–Gerlach effect to measure their gJ-factor and provide accurate tests of relativistic many-body calculations.
