Despite this fact, health care professionals are still highly vulnerable to organizational injustice, which negatively influence organizational commitment, putting an additional burden on the health sector. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the correlation between organizational commitment and organizational justice among health care workers.Methods: Facility-based cross-sectional study design was conducted among 395 health care professionals in the Jimma zone. Four Hospitals and 10 health centers were involved in the study randomly. The sample was distributed proportionally based on the number of health care workers. To select individuals, a systematic random sampling method was employed. Data were collected through self-report questionnaire using modified Alan and Mayer scale to measure organizational commitment and Niehoff and Moorman scale to measure organizational justice. The validity of the tools was checked using the reliability coefficient alpha and it was > 0.7. The collected data were cleaned and entered into EpiData software version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Descriptive and inferential statistics were done.Results: This study revealed that 212 (53.7%) of the respondents scored a low level of organizational commitment. About half of the participants, 202 (52.2%), judged organizational justice were fair. All organizational justice dimensions showed a positive and significant correlation with all organizational commitment dimensions. Thus, the finding revealed that overall organizational commitment and organizational justice had a strong and positive correlation (r = 0.695&ast;&ast;, P < 0.01). From the regression analysis distributive justice (B = 0.382, 95% CI: 0.31– 0.45), and procedural justice (B = 0.17, 95% CI: 0.06– 0.283) were among the factors affecting organizational commitment.Conclusion and Recommendation: This study showed a strong link between organizational commitment and organizational justice. This suggests that organizational justice has been recognized as a motivator and factor influencing health care workers’ organizational commitment. As a result, enhancing organizational justice can help to maintain the commitment of healthcare workers and the facility’s capabilities.Keywords: organizational justice, commitment, health professionals, health care tier system, Ethiopia

Though disparities in patient satisfaction, which is an interpersonal patient outcome with nursing care, have been reported between public and private hospitals, there has been little research on the study area.Objective: To compare the level of patients’ satisfaction towards nursing care services among adult inpatients at Jimma Medical Center, and Oda Hulle hospital Jimma, southwest Ethiopia 2021.Methods: A comparative cross-sectional study design was used among 431 patients of Jimma medical center and Oda Hulle hospital from May 3 to July 3, 2021, using a systematic random sampling technique. The Newcastle scale of satisfaction was used to collect data, which was then entered into Epidata 4.6 and exported to SPSS version 26 for analysis. We used descriptive and logistic regression analysis.Results: Patient satisfaction at public and private hospitals was reported 54.2% (95% CI: 52.9– 59.3) and 57.1% (95% CI: 55.2– 61.7), respectively. In public hospital, the patient satisfaction was affected by being in the age group of 41– 50 years (P = 0.006, AOR = 3), duration of stay in the ward (P = 0.002, AOR = 0.42,), cleanliness of the ward (P = 0.018, AOR = 1.8,), and admission history (P = 0.049, AOR = 0.60,). In private hospital (Oda Hulle), the patient satisfaction was affected by history of admission (P = 0.035, OR = 0.456), ward space (p = 0.007, AOR = 2.8), the perceived capacity of nurses (P = 0.002, AOR = 5.8) to pharmacy services (P = 0.032, AOR = 2.3,).Conclusion: Relatively the patient satisfaction towards nursing care in public hospital was lower compared to the private hospital, though no statistical difference (p = 0.225) observed. Illness history, cleanliness of the ward, Nurses make adequate visits and get their support when needed, Adequacy of ward space, the perceived capacity of nurses, and Access to pharmacy services were positively associated with patient satisfaction.Keywords: nursing care, patients’ satisfaction, public–private, service quality

The brewery industry is known for consuming a significant amount of water during beer production and releasing large quantities of wastewater into the environment. The Harar Brewery factory generates a substantial amount of wastewater, which is utilized for irrigation. However, there have been no comprehensive scientific studies assessing the physicochemical and bacteriological properties of the wastewater in relation to its suitability for irrigation. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical and bacteriological properties of the wastewater to determine its suitability for irrigation. The analytical procedures were conducted following the APHA procedure and the results were compared with national and international standards. Various parameters were investigated, including, temperature (25.01 °C), TDS (848.88 mg/L), TSS (256.67 mg/L), TS (1107.92 mg/L), pH (8.06), EC (1253.42 µS/cm), DO (3.96 mg/L), COD (628.34 mg/L), BOD5 (12.29 mg/L), PO43—P (0.29 mg/L), NH3N (0.65 mg/L), NO3—N (1.52 mg/L), NO2−-N, TN (2.26 mg/L), Mn (0.04 mg/L), Zn (0.03 mg/L), Fe (0.27 mg/L), Cu (0.09 mg/L), Ca (0.51 mg/L), Mg (1.12 mg/L), Na (6.59 mg/L), K (0.68 mg/L), E. coli (4491.67) and TC (14,279.17 CFU/100 mL). Most of the physicochemical parameters and coliform counts met national and international standards. However, EC, TS, TSS, BOD, and COD exceeded Ethiopian standards and international limits. Despite this, farmers continued to use the wastewater for irrigation, potentially leading to long-term adverse effects on both life and the environment. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of implementing advanced treatments to ensure that brewery wastewater meets specific parameters for irrigation suitability.

Adolescent girls are vulnerable to this event and experience more severe and long-standing adverse effects. Thus, this study aimed to examine major depressive symptoms and associated factors and the level of sexually transmitted infection among female adolescents evaluated for rape cases at Jimma Medical Center.Patients and Methods: Institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted among adolescent girls assessed for rape cases in Jimma Medical Center. Data were collected using structured questionnaire and entered into Epi Data version 3.1 then exported to SPSS version 21.0 for analysis. Descriptive statistics and regression analyses were carried out.Results: A total of 174 raped adolescent females took part in the study. Of the total participants, 155 (89.1%) of these individuals had major depressive symptoms (95 CI %, 84.5– 93.7%), while 85 (48.9%) of them had an STI (95% CI, 41.1– 56.9%). From logistic regression, place of residence (AOR 14.65, 95%, (p=0.002)), attending school currently (AOR 9.01, 95%, p=0.004), raped by hitting (AOR 17.67, 95%, p< 0.001) and unwanted pregnancy (AOR 14.68, 95%, p=0.001) were the variables associated with major depression.Conclusion: This study indicates that adolescents were suffering from several encumbrances like major depressive symptoms, sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. It also indicated that place of residence, school attending, and unwanted pregnancy had an association with major depressive symptoms. Therefore, the need for a comprehensive approach while treating this vulnerable group is highly recommended.Keywords: sexual assault, rape victims, sexual violence, Jimma, rape survivors

Background: Blackleg is one of the major bacterial infections causing tremendous economic losses to cattle herders in many parts of Ethiopia. Despite the huge burden, no comprehensive studies have quantified the impact or its distribution throughout the country. This study was aimed to estimate the epidemiological aspect of blackleg, financial costs and benefits of its control through annual vaccination on small holder cattle herders in Southern Ethiopia., Methods: Annual financial cost due to blackleg was calculated as the sum of production losses due to mortality, morbidity, treatment and vaccination costs at herd level. Production loss due to the disease was estimated and compared between local zebu and crossbred cattle. Partial budget analysis was used to estimate financial benefit of control intervention through annual vaccination., Results: An overall cumulative incidence and mortality rate of blackleg in local zebu cattle population was 17.9 % (95 % CI 16.5-19.4) and 3.6 % (95 % CI 2.9-4.4 %) respectively. Cumulative incidence and mortality rate attributed to blackleg in crossbreds cattle was 19 % (95 % CI 16.9-21.6) and 3.9 % (95 % CI 2.9-5.3 %) respectively. There was no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) in both variables between the two breeds. Financial costs in blackleg infected herds was estimated to be USD 9.8 (95 % CI 6.7-14.4) per head for local zebu and USD 16 (95 % CI 10-24.4) per head for crossbred cattle. The marginal rate of return that could be obtained from the control intervention was estimated to be 9 (900 %) and the net benefit per head was USD 0.4 for local zebu and USD 0.8 for crossbred cattle. Vaccination, therefore, reduces financial losses due to blackleg by 3.4 and 6.9 % per head in local zebu and crossbred cattle herds respectively., Conclusions: The present study revealed considerable financial losses due to blackleg occurrence. The information obtained would be helpful to improve the farmers' livelihood and may open new avenues of research for the eradication and control of the disease at local and national level.

We present the case of a 54-year old male patient who was admitted with severe acute epigastric pain, vomiting, and inability to eat since three days before admission. After having excluded cardiac and pulmonary emergencies, an oesogastroduodenoscopy was planned and showed a gastric volvulus. The patient was treated surgically allowing gastric decompression, gastropexy and Nissen intervention. We discuss the case and describe the classification, the diagnosis, the etiologies and therapeutic options in acute and chronic gastric volvulus., (© Acta Gastro-Enterologica Belgica.)
