We investigated femto- and picosecond-time magnetization dynamics in a ferromagnetic Ni80Fe20 film with varying thicknesses (wedge-shaped film). We observed that the thickness gradient strongly affects the magnetic moment distribution, causing a magnetization reorientation from in-plane to out-of-plane, and formatting a stripe domain (SD) at the thicker end of the wedge. The magnetization dynamics measurements reveal that the part of the film displaying SDs follows a substantially faster demagnetization and magnetization recovery and smaller magnetization quenching compared to the in-plane domain film. The experiments and micromagnetic simulations support that the decrease in relaxation time is caused by a magnetic anisotropy of the films introduced by SD formation. Our results point out that the micromagnetic structure plays an important role in the magnetization dynamics in ferromagnetic films after optically triggered demagnetization.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence and wearable devices, flexible magnetic sensors have attracted much attention in recent years. In this work, large self-biased 0–3 type poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene)/cobalt ferrite (P(VDF-TrFE)/CoFe2O4) flexible magnetoelectric (ME) composite films are proposed for the development of AC magnetic sensors. P(VDF-TrFE)/CoFe2O4 composite films with CoFe2O4 nanoparticle mass contents from 5 to 30% are successfully fabricated through the solution casting method. The results show that the nanoparticles are homogeneously dispersed in the P(VDF-TrFE) matrix, and the composite films have both excellent ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties. The P(VDF-TrFE)/CoFe2O4 composite films all exhibit a large ME effect. The ME coefficient reaches 47.1 mV·cm−1·Oe−1 for the film with a CoFe2O4 nanoparticle mass content of 20% at resonance frequency. Moreover, the composite films have a large self-biased ME effect with a maximum value of 20.4 mV·cm−1·Oe−1, which is mainly due to the high remnant magnetization of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles. To evaluate the composite films for application in magnetic sensors, the response of the ME output voltage to an AC magnetic field without a bias DC magnetic field was measured. The good linear correlation coefficient, sensitivity and repeatability indicate that the proposed 0–3 type P(VDF-TrFE)/CoFe2O4 composite film is a promising material for flexible AC magnetic sensors.

We report the influence of different annealing temperatures on the magnetic property of FeGa thin films. The measurement was done for the film thickness from 42 to 420 nm. Our results show that the annealing temperature affects not only the microstructure but also the ferromagnetic resonance signal of the film. Annealing of a FeGa film improves the in-plane remanence ratio and reduces the in-plane ferromagnetic resonance linewidth by a factor of five. This annealing treatment promotes film texture and releases compressive stresses in the film. Our results demonstrate that the structural control via annealing is viable. The necessary magnetic softness of the FeGa film for microwave applications can be achieved.

We investigated the magnetization dynamics of the 350 nm permalloy film with in plane domain (IPD), stripe domain (SD), and labyrinth domain (LD) patterns. Experimental and micromagnetic simulation results showed that the change in magnetic domain structure from IPD to LD was due to the increasing perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) of the film. The magnetization dynamics indicated that the resonant modes of the film strongly depended on the magnetic domain structure. IPD films presented a uniform precession mode. The film with well-regular SD exhibited clear acoustic and optical resonance modes, and the formation of LD suppressed both resonance modes. Finally, the dynamics of magnetization dependent on the domain structure in these films were discussed by using the phenomenological resonance models.

FeNi films with different phase structures were prepared by electrodeposition method, and the phase structure of the film was controlled by the composition of the film. The results indicated that the well-defined stripe domain patterns and good magnetic properties of the films were fond of the bcc and bcc + fcc phase structures of the FeNi films. The results of permeability spectra indicated that the acoustic and optical modes of the film could be changed by the direction of the microwave field and stripe domain. FeNi stripe domain films exhibited the different frequency under the two modes, and the acoustic and optical modes of film showed obvious spectra in the bcc and bcc + fcc phases of FeNi films. The results are helpful to the development of the stripe domain optical mode microwave devices.

Identifying the dopants and their occupation sites in rare-earth-doped permanent magnets is critical not only to understand the mechanism of tuning their magnetic properties, but also to develop guiding principles to further improve their performance. In this study, we present a direct observation of the preferred atomic sites of La atoms in La-doped M-type SrFe12O19 hexaferrite. Our data solidly clarified that only the Sr2+ cations were replaced by La3+ cations, and the La-doping caused the changes in the valence states of iron cations located at the 4f1 and 2a crystallographic sites. First principles calculations further revealed that after La-doping, the changes in the spin states of the Fe3+ cations located at the 4f1 tetrahedral sites resulted in magnetization enhancement and those of the 2a octahedral sites contributed to electrical neutrality, well matching the experimental atomic-column resolution EELS and magnetic measurement results.

We have generated intense electromagnetic transients by femtosecond laser pulse illumination of ferromagnet/metal (F/M) nanobilayers, in the presence of an external magnetic field. Fourier analysis revealed that the frequency content of these transients extended up to ~5 THz. We have also observed that upon the increase of the magnetic field, the entire THz transient shifts towards earlier times by up to 110 fs. We ascribe this magnetically tunable onset-time shift to extra acceleration of photoelectrons induced due to the Lorenz force.

In this work, an arc-shaped Metglas/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)/Ni laminate is proposed, which exhibits a large self-biased magnetoelectric (ME) effect due to the internal magnetization gradient field between the two magnetic layers and the built-in stress formed from the arc-shaped structure. The ME coefficients reach 38.24 and 15.0 V cm−1 Oe−1 without a DC bias magnetic field at resonance and nonresonant frequencies, respectively. The sample shows a high sensitivity, resolution and linearity with values of 210.07 mV Oe−1, 1 nT and 0.9999 at the resonance frequency, respectively. The sample was then used to detect AC magnetic fields with different nonresonant frequencies (ranging from 1 to 25 kHz), resulting in the measured data being in good agreement with the actual data. Under a zero bias magnetic field and at frequencies of 40 and 1 Hz, the limit of detection can reach 2 and 8 nT, and the resolution can reach 1 and 4 nT, respectively. The results indicate that the arc-shaped Metglas/PVDF/Ni laminate shows a large self-biased ME effect and good AC magnetic sensing performance in the bending state, which provides a new way to develop a wide frequency range AC magnetic sensor.

Microwave soft magnetic films (SMFs) are the key materials to effectively miniaturize and multifunctionalize the microwave electromagnetic components and devices. However, currently, single-layer SMFs encounter a frequency bottleneck at around 10 GHz. The ferromagnet/nonmagnetic spacer/ferromagnet sandwiched films with strong interlayer exchange coupling are possible solutions to break through that frequency limitation because they exhibit ultrahigh optical-mode (OM) resonance frequency

FeCoB films were deposited by composition gradient sputtering, and an ultrathin Ru spacer was inserted in the middle of the 50 nm FeCoB films. The static and high frequency magnetic properties of the FeCoB/Ru/FeCoB trilayer films were systematically studied. The films show a good in-plane uniaxial anisotropy, and the anisotropy field increased greatly from 85 Oe to 417 Oe, while the corresponding resonance frequency was dramatically enhanced from 4.23 GHz to 8.36 GHz. Furthermore, the trilayer films also show a low damping of 0.012. This study provides a simple and effective technique to further increase the resonance frequency of soft magnetic films by inserting an ultrathin nonmagnetic spacer, which can be applied to high frequency microwave devices.

Periodic micro-stripes arrays with stripe domains structures upon continuous permalloy (Py) film were fabricated by sputtering, photolithography and ion beam etching technology. These samples display in-plane magnetic anisotropy, and stripe domains structure is observed by the magnetic force microscopy (MFM) in the area of the micro-stripes. The periodic micro-stripes show an effective impact on static and dynamic magnetic properties of Py continuous film. In the case of dynamic magnetic properties, the resonance frequency fr of these samples can be tuned by periodic micro-stripes arrays. Compared to continuous film with resonance frequency fr of 0.64 GHz, the fr of composite structures can be tuned by the separation gap of periodic micro-stripes arrays from 0.8 GHz to 2.3 GHz at zero-field. At the same time, the fr could be also tuned by rotating the samples within the plane. This attributes to the competition of shape anisotropy induced by micro-stripes and the dynamic anisotropy originating by stripe domains structure.

In the broad research of the GMR bio-sensing technology, it is vital to explore appropriate magnetic labels and its influences on the detection signal. In this work, four kinds of ferrite particles of γ-Fe2O3, CoFe2O4, NiFe2O4 and NiZnFe2O4 were prepared through calcining the Dimethyl Formamide (DMF) solution of the transition metal nitrates [Fe(NO3)3 and X(NO3)2, X = Co, Ni, Zn] to study the effect of magnetic properties on detection signals using a DC in-plane measuring method. It was revealed that for four particles, the output voltage differences |ΔV| between with and without magnetic particles exhibit log-linear functions of the particles concentrations x in the range from 0.1 to 10 ng/mL. A very low limitation of detection (LOD) of 0.1 ng/mL for all the samples was obtained, which is two orders smaller than that in the previous work. Moreover, the change of output voltage difference at the LOD (|ΔVlim|) is proportional to the magnetization at bias field (bias magnetization, Mbias), which indicates that larger Mbias leads to a lower LOD. This work provides a useful guidance in selecting or preparing magnetic labels to enhance the sensitivity of GMR biosensors.

Nowadays, the most popular method to increase ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) frequency (fr) in self-bias soft magnetic films is to improve the anisotropy field HK. However, to push fr to higher frequencies only via raising HK becomes increasingly challenging because fr is already higher than 10 GHz by now. In this study, we fabricated a series of magnetically anisotropic FeCoB/Ru/FeCoB sandwich films possessing antiferromagnetic-like coupling and gradually increased uniaxial stress in the FeCoB sublayers from 52 to 110 MPa. It is quite remarkable that the acoustic mode of FMR gradually disappears, whereas the optical mode is enhanced in these structures. We observed simultaneous enhancement of HK and interlayer coupling field (JIEC) with the uniaxial stress, which leads to a very pronounced optical-mode frequency increase from 8.67 to 11.62 GHz with a very sensitive stress response of 51 Hz/Pa. In contrast, the fr in a FeCoB single layer (acoustic mode) only varies from 3.47 to 5.05 GHz under similar stres...

Nanocrystalline Fe2O3 thin films are deposited directly on the conduct substrates by pulsed laser deposition as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. We demonstrate the well-designed Fe2O3 film electrodes are capable of excellent high-rate performance (510 mAh g− 1 at high current density of 15,000 mA g− 1) and superior cycling stability (905 mAh g− 1 at 100 mA g− 1 after 200 cycles), which are among the best reported state-of-the-art Fe2O3 anode materials. The outstanding lithium storage performances of the as-synthesized nanocrystalline Fe2O3 film are attributed to the advanced nanostructured architecture, which not only provides fast kinetics by the shortened lithium-ion diffusion lengths but also prolongs cycling life by preventing nanosized Fe2O3 particle agglomeration. The electrochemical performance results suggest that this novel Fe2O3 thin film is a promising anode material for all-solid-state thin film batteries.

The optical mode (OM) ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) pushes the frequency of soft magnetic films from 10 to 20 GHz, showing a great engineering application prospect in monolithic microwave integrated circuits. However, the determinants of OM frequency and intensity remain unclear. In this study, three magnetic moment configurations (MMCs) with uniaxial anisotropy, quasi-isotropy, and isotropy were established respectively to explore the effect of MMCs on the OM FMR performances in FeCoB/Ru/FeCoB trilayers with the same average compositions and geometry. No detectable FMR signal was observed in the isotropic sample, while an ultrahigh OM frequency f r O of 15.91 GHz with parentheses-shaped angle distribution of FMR intensity was present in the uniaxial anisotropic sample. In contrast, a high f r O of 13.29 GHz also exists in the quasi-isotropic sample, but its angle distribution of FMR intensity likes a circle, indicating an omnidirectional f r O distribution. This sample is very beneficial for the OM engineering application due to its omnidirectional f r O distribution, which breaks through the limitation of magnetic anisotropy to the shape design of magnetic microwave components. It can be concluded that, although three trilayers have the same compositions and geometry, completely different OM resonance performances result from the difference of MMCs, i.e. the MMC is a decisive factor for OM resonance. This study provides the design basis and optimization method for magnetic material fabrication and their device design.

We studied the influence of surface pinning on the domain structure and magnetization dynamics in permalloy stripe domain films. The effect of the pinning in the film was controlled by introducing the defects via the interface roughness of the silicon substrate. The results show that the pinning, induced by these defects, leads to the irregularity of the stripe domain and change of their local distributions. The irregular stripe domain pattern results in the weakening of magnetization resonant- frequency and intensity of the film. The results further were verified by micromagnetic simulation, confirming that the regularity and homogeneity of the stripe domain are important for the excitation of spin waves in stripe domain films. Our results show the important significance of the domain structure for the application of spin-wave propagation in magnetic films.

FeCoB films with different B doping contents and different thicknesses were deposited by composition gradient sputtering. The results show that in-plane anisotropy fields and exchange constants change with the increasing B contents and increasing thickness, respectively. Both results of the composition-gradient films and the thickness-dependent films and the micromagnetic simulation indicate that multiple order spin-wave resonances are easy to obtain in the films with the large in-plane anisotropy field. We observed four resonance peaks including three perpendicular standing spin waves. The hysteresis loop and magnetic domain results indicate that such films also have good magnetic softness and an in-plane homogeneous domain structure.

Magnetoelectric (ME) sensors for the weak magnetic field measurement have attracted a lot of attention because of their high sensitivity and easy integration. However, the ME sensor performs well only at its working-point under a direct current (DC) bias field (Hbias) and mechanical resonance frequency (fres). The measurement of DC to ultralow frequency (0–100 Hz) weak magnetic fields has increasing demands, such as in geomagnetic anomaly fields, geological and mineral exploration, magnetocardiography, and magnetoencephalography. Unfortunately, fres of ME sensors is on the order of several tens of kilohertz, which is far higher than the ultralow frequency desired. Moreover, if the operation frequency deviates from fres, the sensitivity will deteriorate rapidly. In this study, a working-point perturbation method was used to measure the weak magnetic fields at 0–100 Hz with a high magnetic field resolution. (1) The perturbation of fres using an ultralow frequency (fac) magnetic field results in two modulation peaks with frequencies of fres ± fac. The frequency and resolution of the measured alternating current magnetic field can be obtained by varying fac and the modulation depth. A resolution around 1 nT for fac > 10 Hz and a lowest operation frequency of 0.1 Hz were achieved using our measurement system. (2) A high field resolution of 3 nT (better than the frequency perturbation method with a resolution of 16 nT at 0.1 Hz) can be achieved by the perturbation of Hbias at fres because the ME sensor is still working at the quasi-working-point and helped by lock-in amplifier technology.

Transverse and longitudinal vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance (VNA-FMR) spectroscopy, which can easily distinguish the optical and acoustic modes of FMR, is used to study the dynamic interlayer exchange coupling (IEC) in the oblique sputtered Fe56Co24B20(26.5 nm)/Ru( t Ru )/Fe56Co24B20(26.5 nm) trilayers with various Ru thicknesses t Ru . Comparing with the static IEC research method, the dynamic method not only analyzes the frequency response characteristics caused by IEC, but also identifies the nature of IEC. In the studied system, an oscillatory interlayer coupling shows up in the VNA-FMR dynamic measurement. An antiferromagnetic (AFM) coupling appears at 0.35 nm t Ru ≤ 0.9 nm, while a strong ferromagnetic coupling dominates at t Ru ≤ 0.3 nm and a weak ferromagnetic coupling dominates at t Ru ≥ 1 nm. The strongest AFM coupling with coupling coefficient J1 of −0.87 erg/cm2 occurs at the intermediate thickness of t Ru ~0.5 nm, while a strong FM coupling with J1 as large as 1.1 erg/cm2 dominates in the relatively thin 0.23 nm Ru spacers. The coupling mechanism is simulated with Layadi’s rigid model and the oscillatory behavior of the bilinear IEC coefficient J1 versus t Ru is obtained.

In this study, a dual-mode Metglas/Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 magnetoelectric (ME) sensor was prepared for measuring weak magnetic fields. It is interesting to note that this ME sensor can work at alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) dual-modes with high field resolution. In AC mode, a very accurate AC magnetic field resolution of 0.8 nT was achieved at a mechanical resonance frequency of 72.2 kHz; moreover, the operating frequency band for resolution better than 1 nT is as wide as 3.4 kHz. We proposed a DC bias field perturbation (DBFP) method to detect the DC magnetic field using lock-in amplifier technology. As a result, an ultra-accurate DC field resolution of 0.9 nT with noise power spectral density as low as 100 pT/Hz was obtained in the studied ME sensor via the DBFP method. The dual-mode ME sensor enables simultaneous measurement for DC and AC magnetic fields with wideband and accurate field resolution, which greatly enhances the measurement flexibility and application scope.

The magnetic properties of various samples were investigated through vibrating sample magnetometer, electron spin resonance (ESR), and vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance (VNA-FMR) techniques, respectively. The corresponding saturation magnetization $4\pi M_{s}$ and in-plane magnetic anisotropy field $H_{k}$ of those different films were estimated by the three methods. A comparative investigation of the three techniques, especially for ESR and VNA-FMR, on the estimation of $4\pi M_{s}$ and $H_{k}$ was analyzed systematically. The influence of omitted $H_{k}$ on the data of $4\pi M_{s}$ and $H_{k}$ was also studied. The results provide a quite clear conclusion for the measurements of $4\pi M_{s}$ and $H_{\mathbf {k}}$ in different conditions.

NiFe2−xCexO4 (x = 0–0.03) nanoribbons have been successfully fabricated using electrospinning technique and followed by calcining in air at 500 °C. The crystalline, morphologies and compositions of NiFe2−xCexO4 nanoribbons are characterized by X-ray diffraction, selected area electron diffraction, transmission electron microscope, field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The results show that the components, mean crystallite sizes and morphologies change along with the content of Ce3+. A formation mechanism of NiFe2-xCexO4 nanoribbons is proposed. The magnetic hysteresis loops of NiFe2−xCexO4 nanoribbons reveals that the coercivity changes from 165 Oe to 64 Oe and saturation magnetizations change from 40.97 emu/g to 25.05 emu/g at room temperature. Morevover, the Mossbauer spectra of 57Fe in NiFe2−xCexO4 nanoribbons is discussed in detail. It is believed that this work will play important role in magnetic application with the advantage of excellent magnetic properties, efficient functionalization and relatively low cost.

Nanowire/Permalloy (Ni 80 Fe 20 ) composite films were fabricated by combined electrospinning and sputtering. The magnetic properties of the composite films are isotropic in-plane. Stripe domains were characterized by magnetic force microscopy and vector-network-analyzer ferromagnetic resonance. Compared with pure Permalloy films with distinct stripe domains, the composite films have weaker stripe domains but better soft magnetic properties. The coercivity and dynamic anisotropy fields are 47 Oe and 73 Oe, respectively, for pure Permalloy, decreasing to 23 Oe and 67 Oe, respectively, for the Fe-Ni nanowire/Permalloy composite film. Composite films provide new insight on the improvement of the soft magnetic properties of magnetic films.

FeCo films were synthesized by electrodeposition method with a magnetic field applied parallel to the plane of the film. The microstructure as well as the dynamic magnetic properties of the films has been studied as a function of the film thickness, which was varied from 82 nm to 1756 nm. In-plane anisotropy field and saturation magnetization of the film were estimated by ferromagnetic resonance spectra and electron spin resonance spectra. Both of the two results show the in-plane anisotropy field is increased with the improvement of film thickness. The saturation magnetization of film displays no obvious change with the increased thickness. In addition, the damping of the FeCo film is significantly changed with the improvement of film thickness, but it is almost constant in the case of thicker thickness.

FeCo films were prepared by a simple and convenient electrodeposition method. An external magnetic field was applied to the film to induce magnetic anisotropy during deposition. Comparing with the previous work, the angle between the direction of applied magnetic field and film plane is changed from in-plane to out-plane. The influence of the applied magnetic field on magnetic properties was investigated. As a result, it can be found that the in-plane anisotropy is driven by the in-plane component of the magnetic field applied during growth. In addition, the result can also be confirmed by the dynamic magnetic anisotropy of the film obtained by vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance technique.

FeNi films with the stripe domain (SD) pattern are prepared by electrodeposition and sputtering methods. The magnetic domain, static magnetic parameters, and quality factor, as well as dynamic properties of the two films, are respectively performed. The results show the magnetizations of the film were dependent on the direction of SD, and the rotation of the SD is lagging behind the magnetization reversal. The microwave properties of the SD emerge dynamic hysteresis before the saturation magnetic field. These microwave properties are selectively excited with acoustic mode, optical mode, and spin-wave mode. The frequency and intensity of different resonance modes of stripe domain are determined by the local magnetization. The magnetization variations and the rotation of SD of different modes are further illuminated by the micromagnetic simulation. The magnetic anisotropy and the resonance intensity of permeability of different modes were finally described by the modified resonance equations., 10 pages, 9 figures

Both high ferromagnetic resonance frequency ( f r) and homogeneous angular performance are important for soft magnetic films to be used in high-frequency integrated circuit devices. However, high f r are obtainable only along the easy axis direction of the magnetic anisotropic materials. In uniaxially anisotropic FeCoB/Ru/FeCoB films, we could obtain an ultrahigh optical mode ferromagnetic resonance frequency ( f r O) up to 19.16 GHz along the easy axis under a self-bias field due to the enhancement from strong interlayer exchange coupling. However, the uniaxial intensity distribution of optical mode resonance seriously hinders the practical application in microwave components. In order to obtain the desired homogeneous angular performance, soft magnetic films with widely distributed magnetic anisotropy directions in the films were prepared and a nearly omni-directional f r O with uniform values around 13.5 GHz was achieved. This study demonstrates that controlling the magnetic anisotropy's angular distribution is an effective way to obtain isotropic, self-bias magnetic films with ultrahigh f r.

Flexible magnetic sensors are attracting more and more attention because of their application in wearable devices. In this paper, Metglas/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) bilayer composite with good flexibility was fabricated to evaluate its applicability as a flexible in-plane magnetic sensor. The magnetoelectric (ME) coupling characteristics and sensing performance of the sample were investigated under different test conditions, including different AC and DC magnetic field, and changing the direction of the magnetic field and the bending degree of the sample. The sample shows a large ME coefficient with a value of 176.41 V cm−1 Oe. The sensitivity, linearity and deviation of the sample are 892.96 mV Oe−1, 0.99965 and ±2% for the AC magnetic field, and 157.6 mV Oe−1, 0.99444 and ±5% for the DC magnetic field, respectively, and it shows excellent stability over repetitions. Moreover, the sample was gradually rotated anticlockwise in the magnetic fields. The output voltage of the sample varies with the rotation angle and has a good symmetry in plane, which is described well by a sine function. In addition, the clamping effect of the sample was studied. Even when bent, the sample still maintains an excellent and stable performance. The sensitivity and linearity of the sample with a bent angle of 23.5° are 254.37 mV Oe−1 and 0.99975 for the AC magnetic field, and 28.07 mV Oe−1 and 0.99309 for the DC magnetic field, respectively. The deviation of measurements is small for both the AC and DC magnetic sensors. In summary, the present study shows that the Metglas/PVDF bilayer composite has a good sensing performance and is suitable for = flexible in-plane resonant magnetic sensors.

FeCoC films were successfully prepared by electrochemical deposition method in different citric acid concentrations and pH values. The morphology, structure and magnetic properties were investigated. FeCoC films deposited at different citric acid concentrations have good soft magnetic performance. As the pH value increases from 2.49 to 6.02, the atomic ratio of Fe:Co range from 0.72 to 0.95. The coercivities of the films deposited at different pH values first increase and then decrease with increasing pH. The resonance frequency of the films can be tuned by controlling the pH value, and in an appropriate pH value a wide absorption peak can be obtained.

We have demonstrated a facile method to synthesize a number of spinel ferrite nano-granules in dimethyl formamide (DMF) through a calcination process under air. There is no pH regulation, gas atmosphere, centrifugation, supplementary reagents, or other complicated and cumbersome procedures during the preparing process. The structures, morphologies, and magnetic properties of NiFe2O4, CoFe2O4, and NiZnFe2O4 nano-granules in various DMF concentrations and different calcination temperatures were investigated systematically, and other MFe2O4 nano-granules were also investigated by this method. As a result, it will cause an impurity phase at low DMF concentration or low calcination temperature, and large quantities of uniform nano-granules will be achieved at about 680 °C in pure DMF. The results show that the method realizes a simple, rapid and convenient route for assembling unitary and binary spinel ferrite nano-granules. In addition, the formation mechanism of the nano-granules was also studied in detail, and DMF plays a dispersing and covering role during the reaction. This synthetic approach also shows great potentiality in the synthesis of maghemite γ-Fe2O3 with high saturation magnetization, and rare nonmetal-doped CoFe2O4 is prepared using this strategy. Magnetic properties of doped CoFe2O4 nano-granules are also improved. These results provide a convenient way for the advancement of magnetic nanomaterials.

We have successfully prepared a series of sulfur-doped cobalt ferrite nanoparticles via a facile and novel calcining process in air. The technique requires neither pH regulation nor a gas atmosphere nor centrifugation nor any other supplementary reagents during the preparation process. Our various characterizations confirmed that the nonmetal sulfur element was successfully doped in the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles. As the sulfur concentration was increased, the shapes of the sulfur-doped cobalt ferrite nanoparticles changed, from compact microspheres to sparse coral-like nanoparticles. Significantly, the saturation magnetization of sulfur-doped cobalt ferrites was measured to be as high as 81 emu g−1, which is particularly different from the decreased saturation magnetization of previously reported metal element doping.

FeCo-reduced graphene oxide (FeCo-RGO) composite film was fabricated on indium tin oxide substrate using one-step electrodeposition method. Raman spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscope results show that the reduced graphene oxide is coprecipitated with the FeCo film. The energy-dispersive spectrometer results demonstrate that the atomic ratio of Fe/Co in FeCo-RGO composite film is larger than that of the FeCo film under the same fabrication condition. As a result, the FeCo-RGO composite film exhibits good soft magnetic properties and high-frequency properties as well as the FeCo film. The magnetic anisotropy field and saturation magnetization of FeCo-RGO composite film are increased when compared with FeCo film. Furthermore, the ferromagnetic resonance frequency is improved from 2.15 GHz for the FeCo film to 3.9 GHz for the FeCo-RGO composite film.

Stripe domains in magnetic thin films as well as many of its associated intriguing behaviors has been receiving much attention from researchers for a long time [1]. Stripe domains often present a pseudo-uniaxial anisotropy that aligns along the stripe direction, whose axis can be re-aligned by the application of a sufficiently large in-plane magnetic field [2]. Thus, this pseudo-uniaxial anisot-ropy can be regarded as a rotatable anisotropy that rotates along with the applied field. The magnitude of this stripe domain induced anisotropy can be comparable or even much higher than that of uniaxial anisotropy induced by sputtering deposition in a magnetic field, thus this provide a powerful method to tune ferromagnetic resonance frequencies for high frequency microwave applications [3]. In addition, the omni-directional characteristic of rotatable anisotropy makes it highly flexible for applications. FeNi alloys have a great attention for more than six decades as a consequence of their highly sought-after magnetic characteristics in the development of magnetic data storage systems [4]. In addition, FeNi film is the typical stripe domains structure when the film exceeds “transcritical” state [5], which can be controlled by the film thickness. Significantly, the state of magnetic moment magnetization is crucial adjective status for the pseudo-uniaxial anisotropy and stripe domains.

FeGa/FeNi bilayer structures with different deposition order were fabricated by the electrodeposition method on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates. The structure, morphology, static and dynamic magnetic properties of FeGa/FeNi (FeNi/FeGa) films were investigated. The bilayer structures exhibit extremely various magnetic properties with different deposition order which could be attributed to the different coupling interaction in the interface. When FeGa is on top, the bilayer structures show lower coercivity than when FeNi is on top. Meanwhile, increase of the proportion of FeNi in the bilayer structure could affect the Hc and Mr/Ms. The ferromagnetic resonance peak of FeGa on top moves to a high field compared with FeNi on top. Moreover, FeGa on top shows improved complex permeability and a clear resonant phenomenon of the magnetization. These properties make FeGa/FeNi bilayer structure a potential candidate for high-frequency application.

Heusler Co2FeSi films with a uniaxial magnetic anisotropy and high ferromagnetic resonance frequency f r were deposited by an oblique sputtering technique on Ru underlayers with various thicknesses t Ru from 0 nm to 5 nm. It is revealed that the Ru underlayers reduce the grain size of Co2FeSi, dramatically enhance the magnetic anisotropy field H K induced by the internal stress from 242 Oe (1 Oe = 79.5775 A⋅m−1) to 582 Oe with an increment ratio of 2.4, while a low damping coefficient remains. The result of damping implies that the continuous interface between Ru and Co2FeSi induces a large in-plane anisotropic field without introducing additional external damping. As a result, excellent high-frequency soft magnetic properties with f r up to 6.69 GHz are achieved.

We investigate the static and dynamic magnetic properties of a wedge Permalloy film. The spin distribution of the wedge film depends on the film thickness, ranging from the homogeneous in-plane to the out-of-plane component. The spin reorientation region of the wedge film is determined by using a magnetic force microscopy and magneto-optical Kerr effect measurements as well as the micromagnetic simulation. The dynamic properties of the spin distribution depending on the thickness are investigated by the microwave method. The acoustic and optical mode resonances of the wedge film are controlled by changing the direction of the microwave magnetic field and the stripe domains. The resonance frequency could be influenced by its domain structure and reveals the different anisotropies of the film. The results show that the spin distribution of the stripe domain depending on the thickness can be used to control the spin dispersion and precession frequency of the film for high-frequency applications.
