This study aims to observe the residual stress in a substrate and predict stress behavior during the laser deposition process (DED) using finite element analysis (FEA). The residual stress observed on the substrate surface indicated that stress variation during the deposition process increases with proximity to the deposition area, resulting in higher residual stress levels. Additionally, tensile residual stress tends to increase with the height of the deposition area. While variations in the deposition area size influenced the residual stress, consistent stress levels were observed at the same measurement points across different area sizes. The deposition process was simulated using FEA, which confirmed that stress behavior is influenced by melting and solidification cycles. The residual stress levels after cooling aligned well with those observed in actual experiments. Therefore, this study suggests that stress variations can be effectively predicted by simulating the deposition process prior to conducting actual experiments.

The relevance of the use of lubricating oil containing carbon nanotubes during the deposition process has been shown. The technique of experimental studies during deposition of cylindrical blanks has been described. Tests were carried out during deformation of the samples printed on a 3D printer. The secondary effluent of urban sewage treatment plants contains many opportunistic pathogens (OPs), which pose a potential threat to human health. In this study, the slow filtration technique is employed as the advanced treatment procedure, with the secondary effluent as the treatment object. The effectiveness of the operating conditions of the slow filtration process (filtration rate and Ca2+ concentration) in removing OPs (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Legionella and Mycobacterium avium) and Escherichia coli from water, as well as the dynamic deposition process of pollutants on the surface of the slow filtration biofilm, was investigated. The results showed that under different filtration rates and different Ca2+ concentrations, biofilm slow filtration was more effective in removing OPs than slow filtration. The optimal filtration rate of biofilm slow filtration was 5 cm/h, and the optimal inlet Ca2+ concentration was 60 mg/L. When the filtration rate was 5 cm/h, the deposition of pollutants in the secondary effluent on the surface of biofilm slow filtration was mainly dominated by the physical adhesion of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). When the concentration of Ca2+ was 60 mg/L, the adsorption of microorganisms was the primary method. Bi2Sr2Co2Oy thin films were grown on 10° vicinal-cut Al2O3 (0001) single crystalline substrates by pulsed laser-deposition techniques with in situ annealing, post-annealing and non-annealing process, respectively. The pure phase Bi2Sr2Co2Oy thin film was obtained with a non-annealing process. The result of X-ray diffraction showed that Bi2Sr2Co2Oy thin film was obviously c-axis preferred orientation. The laser-induced thermoelectric voltage signals were detected in Bi2Sr2Co2Oy thin films, which originated from the anisotropy of the Seebeck coefficient. The maximum peak value of laser-induced thermoelectric voltage was strong and could reach as large as 0.44 V and the response time was 1.07 μs when the deposition time was 6 min. Furthermore, the peak voltage enhanced linearly with the single-pulse laser energy. These characteristics demonstrate that Bi2Sr2Co2Oy thin film is also an excellent choice for laser energy/power detectors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

High volume fraction SiCp/Al composites are widely used in the field of electronic packaging.In this paper,electroless nickel coatings were prepared on the surface of high volume fraction SiCp/Al composites pretreated with zinc immersion,and the growth behavior of the coatings was studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS).Results showed that the initial deposition of electroless nickel coating on the substrate preferentially occurred on the surface of Al phase.The coating on SiC particles mainly originated from the two-dimensional growth of electroless nickel layer on Al phase.Moreover,the small-size SiC particles around Al phase were covered by coating in 90 s,while the large-size SiC particles were completely covered by coating after 40 min.Besides,the excellent adhesive strength of coating was mainly due to the mechanical interaction between the coating on Al phase and small-size SiC particles and the substrate,as well as the low internal stress of the initial deposited coating on large-size SiC particles.

The excellent microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-Cu alloy deposited using the Direct Energy Deposition (DED) process has been shown in previous studies, which is the most likely aluminum alloy material to meet the load-bearing requirements of hypersonic aircraft. However, its high-temperature performance and the law of microstructure transformation during the high-temperature process still need to be determined. In this paper, DED Al-Cu alloy samples were prepared using the Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) process, CMT Pulse process, and CMT Pulse Advanced process. The effect of different deposition processes on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the deposits was investigated at 200 °C for 30 min. The results show that the Al-Cu alloy's main strengthening phase θ′ is excessively transformed into the equilibrium θ phase after the high-temperature process, which is the main reason for the degradation in the DED Al-Cu alloy's properties at high temperatures. Different deposition processes have almost no effect on the high-temperature performance of the DED Al-Cu alloy, and the deposition process can be selected according to the product's structure. Silicon carbide (SiC) is a rapidly emerging material for photonic applications, thanks to its exceptional optical properties. To be used as a waveguide, SiC thin films must be deposited directly on silica at low temperature. Amorphous SiC films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering using a single source of high-purity polycrystalline SiC. A systematic study of the chemical, structural and optical properties of the films was carried out, using a combination of XRD, XPS, SIMS, spectroscopic ellipsometry, Raman spectroscopy and UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy. The aim was to link deposition conditions to film properties. By exploring a three-parameter space (RF power, substrate temperature, pressure), we have demonstrated that RF power is the main parameter which controls the entire deposition process and film properties. By simply adjusting the RF plasma power between 150 and 450 W, it is possible to adjust the refractive index at a wavelength of 1.5 μm in the range 2.50–2.75 and vary the bandgap from 2.5 to 1.7 eV. This is attributed to a slight variation in film composition, particularly in terms of Si/C ratio and C–C bond concentration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Green wall designs were evaluated for their pollution mitigation efficiency. • Leeward planting best reduces fine particulate pollution on both sidewalk areas. • Leeward green wall with LAD=4 m²/m³, V d =0.05 m/s maximizes fine particle removal. • We recommend green walls with high deposition efficiency and suitable LAD value. • The deposition processes are essential and should be included in CFD simulations. Green walls are pivotal for advancing sustainable urban development and can mitigate fine particulate pollution in urban areas if designed with advantageous planting strategies, suitable vegetation, and sufficient wall coverage. This study evaluates the efficiency of several green wall designs and distinguishes the relative contributions of aerodynamic and deposition processes of vegetation to fine particulate matter removal in urban areas using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. The simulations modeled four planting schemes, four wall area coverages, and two vegetation parameters, leaf area density (LAD) and deposition velocity (V d). The results revealed that the leeward planting scheme with LAD = 4 m2/m3, V d = 0.05 m/s, and 100% wall area coverage was the most efficient green wall design, which reduced up to 50% of the fine particulate concentrations at the pedestrian level (2 m height) in the downstream street. In addition to the aerodynamic effect, this study found a substantial contribution from the deposition in alleviating fine particulate pollution. Based on our findings, leeward green walls with high deposition efficiencies are recommended, and a suitable LAD should be selected to prevent adverse effects on urban ventilation. Estuarine heavy metal deposition processes in tributaries can reflect the environmental changes in the basin and the contribution of tributaries to the pollution of downstream lakes. The dynamic processes of heavy metal deposition in two major tributaries of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River were explored using sediment cores. The relationships between heavy metals (HMs) and various physicochemical properties were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis. The sediment chronological sequences were determined using Pb isotope dating, and the sediment fluxes of heavy metals were calculated. The differences in the driving factors of the two watersheds were analyzed using redundancy analysis. The results showed that heavy metal in both sediment cores were significantly higher than the corresponding background values and showed a relatively stable trend from deep to shallow, with Cd being the most exceeded heavy metal in both tributaries. The average sediment deposition rate was 1.31 cm/year. The Pearson correlation analysis (PCA) results between the HMs indicated similar sources, and the correlation analysis between HM and environmental variables showed that the HMs in both cores, especially Cu and Cr, were significantly correlated with phosphorus, suggesting a synergistic loss of HMs and P. Heavy metal deposition and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) in watersheds showed a negative correlation. This negative correlation is more pronounced in watersheds with higher vegetation cover, where heavy metal deposition is more driven by natural factors. The redundancy analysis (RDA) results indicated that the transport of Cd and Cu was influenced by precipitation and runoff. Heavy metal deposition processes in lake estuaries under improved terrestrial vegetation show the historical contribution of tributaries to lakes, which is important for studying pollution and ecological restoration in watersheds.

Thin film coatings are extensively used to enhance the physical and chemical properties of various materials by depositing a thin layer of coatings of different materials onto various substrates. Several deposition processes are available which are widely adopted by many manufacturing industries to meet such demands. To exploit the fullest potential of those deposition processes, it is often advised to operate them with the optimal combination of process parameters. In this research, a modified PROMETHEE (preference ranking organisation method for enrichment evaluation) method as an effective multi-objective optimisation tool is applied for identifying the optimal parametric combinations of two thin film deposition processes: silicon carbonitride thin film coating using a thermal chemical vapour deposition process and zirconium-containing diamond-like-carbon thin film coating using an unbalanced magnetron sputtering process. The derived optimal parametric combinations are validated based on developed regression equations, which exhibit that the proposed approach can attain better response values as compared to other popular optimisation techniques. A turbidity current is a turbulent, particle-laden gravity current that is driven by density differences resulting from the presence of suspended sediment particles. The current travels downslope, bearing a large amount of sediment over a great distance, and forms fluvial and submarine bedforms. Knowledge of the spatio-temporal deposition profile of turbidity-deposited sediment is important for a better understanding of sediment transport by turbidity currents. In the current study, the depositional process of experimentally produced quasi-steady turbidity currents in an inclined flume was investigated using an electrical-resistance-based depositmeter. It was found that the amount of sediment deposited along the flume bottom increases linearly with time at a specific rate, and decreases exponentially in the downstream direction. Inspired by this observation, the mass conservation law was modified for the suspension layer and a simple theoretical model was proposed involving two parameters, the initial sedimentation rate and the decay constant. The proposed model reproduces the observed data from the flume experiment with high accuracy, and is consistent with the sediment transport distance of a natural example, the Bengal Fan. It was concluded that the two parameters that govern the sedimentation process are the key to estimating the deposition profile of fluvial systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lacustrine mudstones are usually considered as deposited dominantly through vertical suspension fallout in low-energy environments influenced by only occasional fine-grained turbulent flows, while the deposition of their marine counterpart have been increasingly documented to be subject to more complex and dynamic processes. To provide insights into the dynamic processes that transport and deposit mud in lacustrine settings, this study presents an integrated petrographic, sedimentological, geochemical, and sequence-stratigraphic analysis of an ancient lacustrine mudstone-dominated succession using outcrops of the Lucaogou Formation in the Junggar Basin. Detailed facies characterization has revealed seven facies associations, which show spatial and temporal variations within a stratigraphic framework and stack to form eight repetitive parasequence styles. Process-based sedimentological analysis allows the identification of multiple transport mechanisms in different depositional settings, which strongly suggests that mud in lake systems is commonly subject to multiple dynamic transport processes (i.e., sediment plumes, turbidity flows, hyperpycnal flows, and wind-driven bottom currents), rather than suspension fallout under overall quiet conditions. The differences in the expression of parasequence styles can be attributed to the combination of allogenic and autogenic processes, which systematically change with distances from the shoreline. It is important to note that river-floods can discharge large amounts of mud into the deep lake setting. The strong correlation between geochemical data and the distribution of facies generated by riverine processes indicates that in saltwater lakes terrigenous mud is mainly transported to the deep water by sediment plumes and turbidity flows, whereas in freshwater lakes it is transported primarily by hyperpycnal flows. This study demonstrates that the transport and depositional processes of lake mud are diverse and vary systematically in response to lake conditions and environmental changes. High-resolution petrographic and sedimentologic analysis is essential to identify these dynamic processes, which allows more critical and accurate interpretations of depositional conditions and long-term depositional trends in lake systems. • The Lucaogou Formation is shown to comprise a variety of facies, facies association and parasequence styles. • Sediment plume, turbidity current, hyperpycnal flow and wind-driven bottom current were revealed in lacustrine environment. • Transport process is governed by salinity: saltwater via sediment plume & turbidity current, freshwater via hyperpycnal flow. • The expression of parasequence style is controlled by allogenic and autogenic depositions at different distances offshore. • Organic-rich mudstones in the Lucaogou Formation were mainly transported and deposited under dynamic hydrological conditions. The stratigraphic-diffusive type of gas hydrate system is formed by microbial methane produced in a shallow slope space when flowing laterally into hydrate stable zones and is worth studying for both energy supply and academic understanding. A deposition production model matching the vertical and lateral seabed morphological characteristics was constructed to show the accumulation process, layer timing sequence, and reservoir quality of the stratigraphic-diffusive hydrate system in the Dongsha slope sediments since the Pleistocene. Six representative key system factors at three selected moments (1.5 Ma, 700 ka B.P., and at present) have been exhibited during debris is continuously accumulating. The coexistence of the hydrate decomposition in the lower part and the formation in the upper part, and the uneven distribution of hydrates within the slope sediment surface are explained clearly. By comparing four geological cases with diverse environments, it is shown that the diffusive hydrate system is likely to develop into moderate geological conditions. The most powerful carbon fixation ability in this system was quantified within the time range of 100−50 ka B.P. Finally, it was verified that residual methane would converge near the seafloor interface and then eventually overflow out of the seabed into the seawater. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films exhibit excellent frictional properties; however, the high residual stress within the film, which causes detachment issues, limits their application in mechanical sliding surfaces. We have previously clarified via molecular dynamics (MD) simulations that the growth of sp3 clusters after the transition from sp2 to sp3 bonds during film formation causes the in-plane compressive stress in DLC films. In this study, we investigated whether this stress generation mechanism holds under various deposition conditions in the MD simulations, wherein incident energy, atomic flux, and substrate temperature were systematically changed. The results of the MD simulations consistently revealed that the compressive stress generation mechanism remains unchanged across different deposition conditions. With increasing incident energy and atomic flux and decreasing substrate temperature, in-plane compressive stress in the film increased owing to increased sp3 content. Conversely, when the incident energy was further increased, both stress and sp3 content decreased. Based on a molecular statistical calculation, it was shown that the stable bonding state changed from sp3 to sp2 at high temperatures. Because the temperature monotonically increased with increasing incident energy, it was concluded that the change in the stable bonding state caused the non-monotonic change in the stress and sp3 content at high temperatures. Abstract To improve the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of electroless nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) coating on magnesium (Mg) alloy. Ni-P-Al2O3 coatings were produced on Mg alloy from a composite plating bath. The optimum Al2O3 concentration was determined by the properties of plating bath and coatings. Morphology growth evolution of Ni-P-Al2O3 composite coatings at different times was observed by using a scanning electronic microscope (SEM). The results show that nano-Al2O3 particles may slow down the replacement reaction of Mg and Ni2+ in the early stage of the deposition process, but it has almost no effect on the rate of Ni-P auto-catalytic reduction process. The anti-corrosion and micro-hardness tests of coatings reveal that the Ni-P-Al2O3 composite coatings exhibit better performance compared with Ni-P coating owing to more appropriate crystal plane spacing and grain size of Ni-P-Al2O3 coatings. Thermal shock test indicates that the Al2O3 particles have no effect on the adhesion of coatings. In addition, the service life of composite plating bath is 4.2 metal turnover, suggesting it has potential application in the field of magnesium alloy.

With the recent significant advances in micro- and nanoscale fabrication techniques, deposition of diamond-like carbon films on stainless steel substrates has been experimentally achieved. However, the underlying mechanism for the formation of film microstructures has remained elusive. In this study, the growth processes of diamond-like carbon films on AISI 316L substrate are studied via the molecular dynamics method. Effects of substrate bias voltage on the structure properties and sp3 hybridization ratio are investigated. A diamond-like carbon film with a compact structure and smooth surface is obtained at 120 V bias voltage. Looser structures with high surface roughness are observed in films deposited under bias voltages of 0 V or 300 V. In addition, sp3 fraction increases with increasing substrate bias voltage from 0 V to 120 V, while an opposite trend is obtained when the bias voltage is further increased from 120 V to 300 V. The highest magnitude of sp3 fraction was about 48.5% at 120 V bias voltage. The dependence of sp3 fraction in carbon films on the substrate bias voltage achieves a high consistency within the experiment results. The mechanism for the dependence of diamond-like carbon structures on the substrate bias voltage is discussed as well.

The icing phenomenon, which is due to continuous deposition of water droplets or super-cooled droplets, causes serious problems, such as airplane crashes and power line tower collapse, in various fields. It is important to understand the fundamental icing process to overcome these problems. In this study, a free-fall drop test was conducted to investigate the effects of substrate temperature and falling height on the deposition process for a water droplet. A water droplet with a temperature of 20°C was freely dropped onto an A2017 aluminum alloy substrate, which has been cooled to a temperature between -20°C and -70°C, from a height of 600, 800, or 1000 mm. The deposition process was continuously observed via a high-speed video camera. Consequently, cracking occurred in solidified droplets at substrate temperatures below -22.5°C. In addition to cracking, partial delamination of a solidified droplet from the substrate was also observed to occur at substrate temperatures below -32.5°C. These critical temperatures were independent of the falling height. Theoretical prediction models were established to predict these critical temperatures, variation of the water droplet diameter during deposition, and the time required for crack initiation. The validity of the established models was demonstrated via comparison with the experimental results.

Changes in chemical states of amorphous carbon film during ethylene (C2H4) plasma in the floating potential were investigated with multiple‐internal‐reflection infrared absorption spectroscopy (MIR‐IRAS) and deposition rates. IRAS spectra showed that the peaks due to the sp3‐CHX were observed, but no peaks due to sp2‐CHX were observed. The deposition rate due to ethylene plasma was nearly twice that due to methane plasma, in the same way that the number of carbons in an ethylene molecule is twice as that in a methane molecule. It is suggested that the film growth due to ethylene plasma is the same manner of that due to methane plasma; the plasma‐generated hydrocarbon species such as C2H3 and C2H5, which are generated in ethylene plasma, are adsorbed on dangling bonds that are generated by hydrogen abstraction from the deposited film surface. The aim of this research is to deepen the knowledge of the role of friction on the dynamics of granular media; in particular the friction angle is taken into consideration as the physical parameter that drives stability, motion and deposition of a set of grains of any nature and size. The idea behind this work is a question: is the friction angle really that fundamental and obvious physical parameter which rules stability and motion of granular media as it seems from most works which deal with particle dynamics? The experimental study tries to answer this question with a series of laboratory tests, in which different natural and artificial granular materials have been investigated in dry condition by means of a tilting flume. The characteristic friction angles, both in deposition (repose) and stability limit (critical) conditions, were measured and checked against size, shape, density and roughness of the considered granular material. The flume tests have been preferred to "classical" geotechnical apparatuses (e.g. shear box) since the flume experimental conditions appear closer to the natural ones of many situations of slope stability interest (e.g. a scree slope). The results reveal that characteristic friction angles depend on size and shape of grains while mixtures of granules of different size show some sorting mechanism with less clear behaviour. Dependence of the thin films porosity on substrate temperature and deposition energy is studied using the classical atomistic simulation. It is revealed that pore dimensions increase with the decrease of the energy of deposited atoms. The attractive key-enabling nanotechnology manufacturing technique of atomic layer deposition (ALD) is well-known to deposit ultra-thin, uniform, conformal and pinhole-free nano-films on complex topography. Over the years it has been used to deposit ultra-thin films in a multitude of industry applications such as microelectronics, solar cells, superconductors, fuel cells, and water purification membranes, among other applications. This study investigates the ALD process effects in the fabrication of Al2O3 thin film over the substrate. The mass fraction coverage over the substrate and deposition rate contours in a Gemstar 6 ALD reactor are examined. The analysis technique illustrates the parameter behavior over a Cartesian coordinate sector in a three-dimensional illustration. The governing laws of the conservation of mass, momentum, energy, species, and kinetic chemical reactions are analyzed numerically by ANSYS Fluent and ChemkinPro. Low‐dielectric constant (low‐k) material is critical for advanced FinFET technology parasitic capacitance reduction to enable low‐power and high‐performance applications. Silicon Oxycarbonnitride (SiOCN) is one of the most promising low‐k materials for FinFET gate sidewall spacer. The k value of SiOCN can be controlled in the range of 4.1–5.2 by modifying the chemical contents during the deposition process. However, the integration of SiOCN with k value lower than 5.2 for advanced FinFET technology faces substantial challenges associated with the material damage from subsequent manufacturing processes. Here, the authors demonstrate a hybrid low‐k spacer scheme on a fully integrated 7 nm FinFET technology platform, in which SiOCN with k value of 4.5 was successfully integrated along the sidewalls of the gate electrode as spacer while retaining the structural integrity and dielectric properties. Device characterisation on the hybrid low‐k spacer scheme (k = 4.5) demonstrated 12/11% reduction in P/NFET overlap capacitance (COV) and 3% reduction in ring oscillator effective capacitance (CEFF) in comparison to the baseline reference using SiOCN with k value of 5.2 as spacer. Furthermore, reliability characterisation confirmed the dielectric breakdown voltage (VBD) and leakage current (ILKG) of the hybrid low‐k spacer (k = 4.5) were comparable to the baseline reference (k = 5.2), meeting the technology requirements. An analysis method for atomistic cluster porosity is presented. Porosity and pore radii are calculated from the coordinates of atoms and van der Waals radii. The pore volume is calculated as the maximum volume of a sphere inscribed in a pore. The method is applied to a silicon dioxide thin film prepared by simulation of ion-beam sputtering. Litigation in perinatal nursing represents a disproportionate share of indemnity payouts and results in excessive psychological stress. Testimony at deposition or trial can be challenging for clinicians; little is taught in training or postgraduate education regarding litigation. Nurses, midwives, and physicians can effectively navigate the deposition process and prepare for trial testimony by understanding the plaintiff's goals, recognizing the role of documentation, and becoming familiar with various plaintiff's strategies including reptile theory. Knowledge of psychological concepts such as confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance may assist clinicians in responding to plaintiff's lines of questioning. Deposition preparation is crucial to the defense and requires active participation on the part of clinicians; it may include mock deposition or use of simulation laboratories. Common mistakes in deposition may be avoided with foresight and anticipatory planning by clinicians working closely with risk managers and defense attorneys. This article provides an overview of the deposition process, including the plaintiff's goals and common approaches, as well as the role of documentation and common errors of deponents. The microstructure of coatings deposited under radiation heating in vacuum at different parameters of pulsed glow discharge is studied. In this paper, four types of deposition control processes such as temperature, pressure, input/output(I/O), and gas were replaced by the Internet of Things(IoT) to analyze the data load and sequence procedure before and after the application of it. Through this analysis, we designed the load balancing in the sensing area of the deposition process by creating the sequence diagram of the deposition process. In order to do this, we were modeling of the sensor I/O according to the arrival process and derived the result of measuring the load of CPU and memory. As a result, it was confirmed that the reliability on the deposition processes were improved through performing some functions of the equipment controllers by the IoT. As confirmed through this paper, by applying the IoT to the deposition process, it is expected that the stability of the equipment will be improved by minimizing the load on the equipment controller even when the equipment is expanded.
