Background: POT is a relatively newly described benign odontogenic tumor with very few cases registered to date. We present the 1st case of Primordial odontogenic tumor (POT) from Sub-Saharan Africa with unique clinicopathological features; also, this is the first case to report POT's existence as a Hybrid Odontogenic lesion (HOL), with a pertinent review of the literature., Case Presentation: This was a 17-year-old patient who presented with slow-growing, painless posterior mandibular swelling. The imaging revealed a well-defined, unilocular, expansile, lytic lesion with internal calcific foci surrounding an impacted #36, indicating a calcifying odontogenic cyst. The incisional biopsy revealed the presence of POT. The tumor was excised along with the involved tooth., Conclusion: POT is predominantly a non-aggressive and mostly affects the pediatric population. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the trabeculation increase of treated mandibular cysts., Material and Method: The study included 26 female and 33 male patients (age mean: 38,4 years) with cysts larger than 3 cm in the posterior region of the mandible who were admitted to the same center. Two groups in treatment technique: marsupialization (n = 29) and enucleation (n = 30). Four groups in cyst types: dentigerous cyst (n = 21), keratocyst (n = 19), radicular cyst (n = 15) and residual cyst (n = 4). Cyst size was divided into two categories: smaller than 5.5 cm (n = 31) and larger than 5.5 cm (n = 28). Panoramic radiographs (PR) of the patients were analyzed at the beginning, 6. month and 12. month., Result: At the end of the treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in terms of Fractal Analysis (FA) between patients treated with marsupialization and enucleation, but considering that the cysts in the marsupialization group were larger in size, a faster increase in FA was observed in the marsupialization group. When the cysts were grouped according to their size, it was observed that healing tissues in cysts smaller than 5.5 cm reached normal FA values faster, while healing in the middle of cysts larger than 5.5 cm took more time., Conclusions: FA is a reproducible and reliable method. In large cysts, marsupialization results in a faster recovery, but FA values at the end of treatment are similar to the enucleation group. Cysts larger than 5.5 cm show a more rapid increase in Fractal Dimension (FD). The centre of the cysts is the area that heals the latest. Background: Dentigerous cysts (DCs) are among the most frequently odontogenic cysts in young and middle-aged individuals. Marsupialization and enucleation are the main treatment options in clinical practice. However, there are few reports on preserving molars severely involved by the cyst., Case Presentation: A 35-year-old male patient with a large odontogenic cyst that was successfully treated using a multidisciplinary approach. The patient's chief complaint was discomfort during mastication in the lower left molar region for a month. Clinical examination revealed that teeth 36 and 37 were intact without pain upon percussion, while tooth 38 was unerupted. The radiology examination illustrated a typical well-defined oval radiolucent lesion surrounding the crown of unerupted tooth 38, extending to the distal root of tooth 37. The treatment was divided into two parts: removal of the cyst and the impacted third molar, followed by filling with collagen bone particles; and preserving the tooth 37 via hemisection, root canal treatment and crown restoration. Pathological examination indicated a dentigerous cyst. After 18 months of treatment, the bone defect completely recovered and tooth 37 functioned well following the hemisection., Conclusions: Hemisection effectively preserves the cyst-associated molars and maintains oral function. Dentigerous cysts (DC) in the maxillary sinus are rare and pose challenges for effective treatment. Despite various available surgical techniques, a definitive approach remains debated. This study introduces a markerless Augmented Reality Assisted Surgery (ARAS) system that utilizes tooth image recognition and surgical simulation to enhance the precision of maxillary sinus DC extractions. Using advanced technology, such as 3-dimensional (3D) intraoral scanning and CT imaging for accurate data capture, the system aligns virtual models with patient anatomy without external markers, demonstrating a minimally invasive surgical solution. The ARAS system enabled precise surgical planning and realization of a DC extraction in the maxillary sinus by creating a bone window in direct contact with the cyst, assisting in complete removal with minimal risk to adjacent structures. Background: Dentigerous cysts, deemed of developmental origin, are benign odontogenic cysts characterized by a gradual growth rate. Their occurrence is twice as prevalent in men compared to women. These cysts are recognized as the most frequent developmental cysts affecting the jaws, with a typical manifestation in individuals aged 20 to 40, while infrequently identified in young children. Notably, dentigerous cysts have the potential to attain significant dimensions, resulting in painless enlargement of the jaw and subsequent deformation., Objectives: To assess the clinicopathological features and management of ten years of experience with dentigerous cysts., Methods: A challenging cases were reported from reviewed records of the patients who were treated by the surgical intervention of various dentigerous cysts throughout the period of ten years, 2012-2022 and only histologically confirmed cases were selected, at Ramadi Teaching Hospital in addition to Rashid, Razi, Zuhur Private Hospitals and private clinics in Iraq., Results: 76 patients were included in this clinicopathological research. The highest age group affected was ≤ 18 years (68.4%), 54% were male, the mandible was more affected (63.1%) than the maxilla (36.9%). Marsupialization was applied to 30.3% of the cases, while enucleation was carried out in 69.7%., Conclusions: The significance of meticulous examination of radiographs and the consequences associated with undetected and untreated ailments is affirmed by this case study. Background and Objectives : Dentigerous cysts are one of the most frequent pathologies associated with unerupted or impacted teeth. Such cysts show a male predilection and a preference for the mandibular region. Also, they commonly occur in the second and third decades of life, with only 9% occurring in the first decade. The aim of this work is to apply and study the therapeutic algorithms developed for dentigerous cysts and their outcomes, from the early diagnostic stage to the complete healing phase of pediatric patients diagnosed with this medical condition. Materials and Methods : The study included 19 pediatric patients diagnosed with dentigerous cysts who underwent the enucleation and extraction or conservative attitude of the associated tooth. The bony healing was also followed-up 9 months after the surgery. Results : A higher incidence in the posterior area of the mandible and maxilla was observed, as well as a higher incidence in boys. The 9 months postoperative radiographic assessment showed that the bony defects were completely healed. Conclusions : A thorough understanding of the nature of the lesion backed by a good clinical history and by state-of-the-art radiographic and radiologic examinations can go a long way in helping the surgeon to choose the correct therapeutic approach and to ameliorate the medical condition in the best long-term interest of the young patient. The considered dentigerous cyst cases demonstrated that an early diagnosis and treatment of this pathology is followed by a responsive treatment.

A 7-month-old, male, Weimaraner dog was presented for maxillary swelling. Clinical evaluation including radiographs and computed tomography revealed a large cystic lesion, unerupted right maxillary canine tooth, and mass presumed to be a compound odontoma. The cyst and mass were expansile and occupied a large portion of the nasal cavity displacing anatomical structures of the maxilla. The mass was excised via curettage through an intraoral surgical approach and the unerupted tooth and cystic lining were removed. Histopathology supported dentigerous cyst and compound odontoma. Background: Dentigerous cysts are slow-growing, asymptomatic lesions that typically form around the crowns of impacted teeth. They are not detected until they start to harm the tissues around the teeth., Aim: The present study aimed to describe surgical techniques for treating dentigerous cysts associated with ectopic teeth., Cases: Three patients with dentigerous cysts associated with ectopic teeth, their surgical approaches, and the supporting literature are presented herein. In two cases, the surgical technique used was intra-oral, and in one case was extra-oral. Under general anesthesia, dentigerous cyst enucleation and ectopic tooth removal were carried out., Discussion: In the present study, the ectopic tooth cases were all linked to dentigerous cysts. Enucleation or marsupialization treatments could be used to treat dentigerous cysts. Background: Dentigerous cyst are most common odontogenic cyst and they frequently occur at the mandibular third molar. Their asymptomatic long medical history always resulted in severe bone resorption at the distal aspect of the adjacent second molar. BonMaker® ATB demonstrate an excellent autogenous bone graft candidacy. The aim of this study is to share a single team's experience of dentigerous cyst osseous defect repairing by applying autogenous tooth sticky bone graft., Method: In total, 18 patients with dentigerous cyst, which was arised from mandibular third molar unilaterally, were enrolled in this study. Enucleation of dentigerous cyst was performed extracting with involving teeth under general anesthesia. Autogenous tooth sticky bone graft was prepared using extracted tooth and autogenous fibrin glue. Subsequently, grafting was performed above covering with concentrate growth factors. Patients were followed up at sixth months., Results: They were eleven male and seven female patients. Their ages ranged from 20 to 40 years, with a mean of 31 years. Primary wound healing of all sites was achieved in all the patients. Sixth months postoperative radiographic assessment show that dentigerous cysts osseous defects of seventeen patients were good bone filling and ossification. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate if and how decompression alters histopathologic diagnoses of cystic jaw lesions., Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients with a histologic diagnosis of an odontogenic cystic lesion that was surgically treated with decompression followed by a definitive surgery. The correlation between variables including age, gender, location of the lesion, decompression time and the change in histopathologic diagnosis following decompression was analyzed., Results: Thirty-nine patients were included in the study. The mean decompression time was 7.87 ± 3.43 months. Post-decompression histologic examination at time of definitive surgery was consistent with the initial biopsy diagnosis in 83.33% (5 of 6) of odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs), 94.11% (16 of 17) of radicular cysts, 100% of dentigerous cysts, and 100% of residual cysts. The change in histopathologic diagnosis of the cystic lesions was not found to be statistically correlated with the study variables., Conclusions: Histopathologic diagnoses of odontogenic cystic lesions predominantly remain unchanged after decompression. A treatment protocol based on the initial diagnosis may be appropriate for odontogenic cystic lesions that are considered for decompression before definitive surgery.

The correct diagnosis is fundamental for the appropriate treatment to be employed in a particular pathology. The best treatment is not the one that solves only local problems, fragmenting the patient, and therefore, it is necessary to integrate the entire systemic condition of the individual before initiating any local treatment. This context inevitably requires dentistry to participate in a multidisciplinary approach, where the role of the dentist is expanded in concepts that encompass ethics, human dignity, and professional valorization. This article describes a clinical case of a patient with mucopolysaccharidosis type I, whose treatment of cystic lesions present in the mandible was exclusively performed through marsupialisation. The objective of this study is to demonstrate, within the complexity of this rare syndrome, the difficulties of diagnosis and the need for evaluation of the patient beyond the limits of the oral cavity, as well as to report two cases of large dentigerous cysts, surgically treated conservatively through marsupialisation, without the need for re-approach for enucleation and without recurrences over a 20-year period.

The dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic asymptomatic cyst, that is associated with the crown of an unerupted or impacted tooth. A male patient aged 11 years presented a large dentigerous cyst in the lower left quadrant associated with retained deciduous lower lateral incisor and canine and impacted, unerupted corresponding permanent ones. The treatment consisted in marsupialisation and placement of a modified lingual arch that held a tube for decompression used for irrigation of the cystic cavity in a comfortable way for the patient and for the clinician.The same lingual arch was later used as an anchorage method for traction of the retained teeth. Bilateral dentigerous cysts (DC) associated with unerupted mandibular first molars in a non-syndromic pediatric individual are rare. Secondary infections may lead to complications, such as discomfort due to pain, disfigurement caused by enlargement of the cyst with cortical expansion of the jawbone, displacement of teeth and paraesthesia of the adjacent nerve. This case report describes the occurrence of bilateral DC in an eight-year-old patient. Marsupialization was the treatment of choice to preserve the permanent teeth and other adjacent tissues.

Unicystic ameloblastoma (UAM), a rare variant of ameloblastoma, is an odontogenic epithelial neoplasm typically appearing in the mandible. We report an extremely rare case of maxillary UAM with an impacted canine and supernumerary tooth. The patient was a woman in her late 30s who presented with a slight expansion of the left anterior maxilla due to a cystic lesion with impacted teeth. Under a clinical diagnosis of dentigerous cyst, the cystic lesion was completely enucleated by extracting the impacted teeth. Based on the clinical features and pathological findings, the final diagnosis was intraluminal UAM in the anterior maxilla. In the present case, despite the rarity of UAM with impacted teeth in the anterior maxilla, it should be considered during differential diagnosis. Odontogenic tumours and cysts have a characteristic presentation, histopathologically and clinically. The diagnostic criteria and nomenclature are distinct as elaborated in 2017 WHO classification. But one can occasionally and infrequently find an association between different odontogenic tumours and cysts, like calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumour (CEOT) and adenomatoid odontogenic tumour (AOT), CEOT and ghost cell tumour. Some of the odontogenic tumours and cysts share the site of occurrence, intraosseous location, teeth involved/quadrant involved and histopathology too. Hence these lesions are considered for differential diagnoses in most cases. But some instances report hybrid or associated tumours and cyst cases. Dentigerous cysts, also known as follicular cysts, are among the most common developmental cysts of the gnathic bones. The majority of cases are clinically asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on panographic radiographs during routine dental care. The cyst appears as a radiolucency, classically unilocular, associated with the crown of an unerupted or impacted tooth. Usually diagnosed in the 2nd-3rd decade, third molars of the mandible are the most commonly affected teeth. Histologically, dentigerous cysts demonstrate a fibrous or fibromyxoid connective tissue wall lined by squamous epithelium, classically lacking rete ridges. Inflammation may introduce histologic changes, however. The differential diagnosis includes hyperplastic dental follicle, periapical or radicular cyst, unicystic ameloblastoma, odontogenic keratocyst, and other odontogenic cysts and tumors. While the findings are generally classic and pose no diagnostic dilemma, the diagnosis is best made in the context of the appropriate clinical and radiographic setting. Submitted tissue with a lack of history, to include a detailed relationship with the affected tooth, may result in misdiagnosis and subsequent confusion for the clinician. A Japanese male aged 61 presented with persistent pain in the left posterior area of the mandible for several weeks. A panoramic X-ray revealed a unilocular lesion showing characteristics of a dentigerous cyst associated with an impacted third molar. A cystectomy was performed and histopathological examination revealed a cystic lesion with a fibrous wall. The lumen was covered with non-keratinizing squamous cells with obvious intercellular bridges, which were intermingled with partially ciliated goblet-cell-type mucous and columnar cells. Rationale: Ectopic tooth is tooth erupting out of normal anatomical position. Ectopic tooth can occur in different positions, such as maxillary sinus and nasal cavity. In this article, we present a rare case of an ectopic tooth with a dentigerous cyst in the maxillary sinus compressing the nasolacrimal canal., Patient Concerns: An 8-year-old girl presented with a 2-month history of spontaneous lacrimation in her right eye. When she wept, more tear shed from her right eye than that from the left one. Background: A dentigerous cyst (DC) is a pathology embracing the crown of an unerupted tooth at risk of malignant transformation. The causal tooth is usually removed together with the cyst. However, if there are orthodontic contraindications for extraction, two questions arise. (1) Which factors favor spontaneous eruption? (2) Which factors imply the necessity of applying orthodontic traction? This systematic review aimed to identify factors conducive/inconducive to the spontaneous eruption of teeth after dentigerous cyst marsupialization., Methods: In accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, the main research question was defined in the PICO format (P: patients with dentigerous cysts; I: spontaneous tooth eruption after surgical DC treatment; C: lack of a spontaneous tooth eruption after surgical DC treatment; O: determining factors potentially influencing spontaneous tooth eruption). The MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases were searched for keywords combining dentigerous/odontogenic/follicular cysts with teeth and/or orthodontics, as well as human teeth and eruption patterns/intervals/periods/durations. The following data were extracted from the qualified articles (4 out of 3005 found initially): the rate of tooth eruption after surgical treatment of the cyst, the age and sex of the patients, the perpendicular projection distance between the top of the tooth cusp and the edge of the alveolar process, tooth angulation, the root formation stage, the cyst area, and the eruption space. The articles were subjected to risk of bias and quality analyses with the ROBINS-I protocol and the modified Newcastle-Ottawa QAS, respectively. Meta-analyses were performed with both fixed and random effects models. The GRADE approach was used to evaluate the quality of the evidence. The systematic review was registered in PROSPERO under ID CRD42020189044., Results: Nearly 62% of DC-associated premolars erupted spontaneously after cyst marsupialization/decompression. Young age (mean = 10 years) and root formation not exceeding 1/2 of its fully developed length were the factors likely to favor spontaneous eruption., Conclusion: The small number of published studies, as well as their heterogeneity and the critical risk of bias, did not allow the creation of evidence-based protocols for managing teeth with DC after marsupialization. More high-quality research is needed to draw more reliable conclusions.

A 14-year-old American Paint Horse mare was referred for further evaluation of a firm mass with an associated draining tract at the base of the left ear suspected to be a dentigerous cyst. Approximately three months prior, the draining tract had been excised under the presumed diagnosis of an abscess with no improvement. Physical examination revealed a firm mass palpable at the base of the left ear with a draining tract that did not elicit any pain response on palpation. Digital radiographs revealed a 6x11cm mineral mass in the left temporal region. Medially, there were two projections that extended into the left temporal bone. Cone beam computed tomography (CT) showed mild thinning of the temporal bone separating the mass and the brain at the conical extension of the caudal aspect of the mass. Both structures were isolated and elevated using a combination of osteotomes, mallet, and bone rongeurs under general inhalant anesthesia with radiographs to determine complete removal. Although histopathology was declined, gross examination of both structures resembled adult molar teeth. At eight months postoperative, the owners reported that the surgical site was healed and no discharge was present. Dentigerous cysts should remain a differential for a mass with an associated draining tract at the base of the ear in horses. Practitioners should strongly consider CT when feasible for additional diagnostics in similar cases. Although benign and removal poses risk, dentigerous cysts can be surgically excised with a positive outcome.

Dentigerous cyst is one of the most common developmental cyst of the jaw which accounts for approximately 20%-30% of bone cyst in the head and neck region. Most common site is the third molar of the mandible. However, maxillary involvement is not uncommon. The clinical presentation of this depends mainly on the size and anatomical compromise that occur due to compression. Although usually considered to be of developmental origin, dentigerous cysts (DCs) have been reported to form in response to chronic periapical inflammation associated with primary teeth that have necrotic, infected pulps. This article describes the management of a DC associated with tooth 21 in a seven-year-old Caucasian child with a history of multiple TDIs to the primary maxillary incisors. Chronic periapical inflammation associated with a necrotic pulp in tooth 61 was identified as the likely cause of the lesion. Initial conservative management involved marsupialization of the lesion by extracting the necrotic tooth 61. Following significant decompression of the cyst, surgical enucleation was carried out under general anaesthesia and an orthodontic attachment was bonded to the crown of the unerupted tooth 21 to facilitate traction. Histopathological assessment of the enucleated tissue confirmed it to be a DC. Two years after the initial presentation, teeth 21 and 22 had erupted into the oral cavity, improving patient aesthetics. However, the root of tooth 22 was transposed with the crown of the unerupted tooth 23. Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the long-term results of mandibular dentigerous cysts treated with decompression using a custom-made appliance., Patients and Methods: This retrospective study included 34 patients with dentigerous cysts who were treated as outpatients at the Faculty of Dentistry, Marmara University. Medical history, complaints, intraoral and extraoral clinical findings, treatment time, and complications of these patients were collected., Results: The average age of the patients was 7.94 years. Three tooth buds (canine, first permanent premolar [P1], and second permanent premolar) in 2 cases, two tooth buds in 7 cases (P1 and second permanent premolar in 6 cases and P1 and canine in 1 case), and one tooth bud in 25 cases were related to the cyst. The mean decompression time was 5.97 months (range, 3 to 9 months). No major complications occurred during or after decompression. No evidence of infection, breakdown and/or dehiscence of the soft tissue, or inferior alveolar nerve paresthesia was observed. Nonmineralized cysts and cyst-like lesions that frequently occur in the mandible include ameloblastomas, odontogenic keratocysts, and dentigerous cysts. They have specific features of well-demarcated, unilocular, and radiolucent lesions that are often associated with tooth impaction. Although it rarely occurs, these cysts can become extremely large. Furthermore, cyst enlargement causes additional symptoms that can challenge the success of tooth recovery through orthodontic treatment. This clinical report presents the successful eruption of 2 impacted molars in a large dentigerous cyst treated with marsupialization and orthodontic traction using an orthodontic miniplate anchorage over a 4-year treatment period., (Copyright © 2020 American Association of Orthodontists. Purpose: Marsupialization, designed to reduce the mandibular cyst volume, has continued to debated regarding its influence on the healing of the related bone cavity. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the 3-dimensional radiographic variation over time in mandibular odontogenic cystic lesions after marsupialization and assess the correlations between these variations and variables that can affect the procedure., Materials and Methods: We planned a retrospective cohort study. The predictor variables were the treatment duration, preoperative volume, patient age, histologic type, and number of preoperative residual bony walls. The outcomes variables were the postoperative volume reduction and the daily reduction rate calculated using computed tomography (CT) from before to after marsupialization using software designed for volumetric reconstruction and measurement of cyst-related bone defects. The descriptive and bivariate statistics were computerized, and the significance level was set at P = .05., Results: The sample included 15 patients (12 men and 3 women; mean age, 51.6; range, 27 to 85 years) affected by keratocysts (n = 6), dentigerous cysts (n = 6), and radicular cysts (n = 3) who had undergone marsupialization. The median duration of marsupialization was 406 days (25th to 75th percentile, 276 to 519). The mean ± standard deviation (SD) pre- and postdecompression volumes were 6,908.27 ± 2,669.058 and 2,468.13 ± 1,343.517 mm 3 , respectively (P < 0.001), and the mean ± SD percentage of reduction was 63.90 ± 13.12%. The volume decrease in the bone defects correlated positively with the treatment duration (P = .009) and preoperative volume (P < .001). However, no correlation was found with the other variables (P > .05) nor between the daily reduction rate and other variables (P > .05)., Conclusions: Marsupialization appears useful in improving the healing of cyst-related bone defects in mandibles, especially larger defects. Background: Dentigerous, follicular, cysts are developmental odontogenic cysts of reduced adamantine epithelium origin, associated with an impacted tooth. They are the second most frequent cystic pathology after inflammatory cysts. Although the frequency of dentigerous cysts associated with upper third molars is far lower than the mandibular ones, their complications are nothing but ordinary. Most of the times asymptomatic, being discovered during routine x-ray examinations, maxillary follicular cysts can grow to important size, altering the position of adjacent teeth, producing osteolysis of the nearby bone structures, as well as infectious complications, antral and orbital pathology., Case Report: The present manuscript describes the clinical, radiological, pathological and therapeutical aspects of a giant follicular cyst with antral and pterygomaxillary extension, associated with an impacted upper third molar., Conclusion: The most efficient treatment of maxillary follicular cysts consists in the surgical removal of the lesion along with the involved tooth. Complete excision is mandatory to prevent recurrence. Extension into adjacent structures might complicate the surgery Preoperative evaluation and rigorous planning are essential, especially in large-sized lesions. Ectopic development of teeth in nondental areas is uncommon, especially in the maxillary sinus. A panoramic radiograph is the routine diagnostic radiographic examination performed for this type of eruption, although cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is highly recommended for further localization of the ectopic tooth and assessment of the characteristics of any associated lesion before a surgical procedure. We report a case of a 13-year-old female student who presented with purulent discharge posterior to the upper right second molar with a bad taste and foul odour. Radiographic examination revealed a maxillary third molar tooth located at the posterosuperior aspect of the right maxillary sinus with a hyperdense lesion surrounding the crown, obliterating the sinus cavity. Both the tooth and dentigerous cyst were surgically removed under general anaesthesia through Caldwell-Luc antrostomy. After a three-month follow-up, the patient was symptom free and had an uneventful recovery. Dentigerous cysts in young adults may compromise the natural evolution of the dentition and can be treated surgically or non-surgically. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors that can complicate the surgical removal of intrabony cysts and any relevant correlations between them., Patients and Methods: The medical records of 249 patients who underwent surgical removal of intrabony cysts were retrospectively reviewed. Outcome variables were postoperative complications, infection, and recurrence. Predictor variables were patient age, gender, comorbidities, anatomic location, pathologic diagnosis, preoperative infection, previous marsupialization, and bone graft methods. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors of postoperative infection and recurrence., Results: The cystic lesion was smallest in patients who did not receive a bone graft and increased steadily in those who received a xenogeneic bone graft and an autogenous bone graft, in that order. Paresthesia occurred after enucleation of the cystic lesion in 38 cases. Pathologic fractures were observed in 4 cases. There were 59 postoperative infections. The postoperative infection rate was as high as 63.6% in patients who underwent autogenous bone grafting. In contrast, infection rates were as low as 26.8 and 19.5% in those who underwent xenogeneic bone grafting and no bone grafting, respectively. Location of the cystic lesion in the maxilla or mandible affected the infection rate. When cysts were located in the anterior mandible, no postoperative infection occurred. In contrast, the infection rate was highest for cysts in the mandibular ramus, followed by those in the posterior mandible. Cystic lesion recurrence was observed in 7 cases: 5 cases of odontogenic keratocysts, 1 case of periapical cyst, and 1 case of dentigerous cyst. These findings suggest that cyst pathologic identity affects the recurrence rate. Objective: To investigate the incidence and constituent ratio of odontogenic tumors or odontogenic cysts in School and Hospital of Stomatology, Jilin University and to provide the reference for the clinical treatment. Methods: According to the WHO 2017 histological classification criteria, the pathological data of 4181 patients diagnosed as odontogenic tumors or odontogenic cysts in the Department of Pathology, Jilin University Stomatological Hospital from January 1961 to December 2017 were collected. Statistical analysis of the pathological types, gender, age and location of various tumors and cysts was conducted. Results: Of 4 181 cases, 1 055 were tumors and 3 126 were cysts. Among odontogenic tumors, benign tumors accounted for 96.11% (1 014/1 055), and malignant tumors accounted for 3.89% (41/1 055). The most common pathological type of odontogenic tumors was ameloblastoma [53.27% (562/1 055)], followed by cemento-ossifying fibroma [21.23% (224/1 055)] and odontoma [12.99% (137/1 055)]. The male-female ratio was 1∶1.04. The high-risk ages were 10-39. Maxilla-mandible ratio was 1∶2.85.As for cysts, radicular cysts [50.45% (1 577/3 126)] was the most common pathological type, followed by odontogenic keratocyst [25.59% (800/3 126)] and dentigerous cysts [21.56% (674/3 126)]. The male-female ratio was 1.37∶1. The high-risk ages were 20-49. Maxilla-mandible ratio was 1.37∶1. Conclusions: There was no gender preference for odontogenic tumors in Jilin Province area in the 57 years. The majority tumors occurred in the radicular. The most common pathological type was ameloblastoma. As for odontogenic cysts, males showed a higher incidence and the majority cysts occurred in the maxilla. The most common pathological type was radicular cysts.

BACKGROUND Dentigerous cysts are slow-growing odontogenic cysts that usually develop unilaterally as part of a pre-existing syndrome. Non-syndromic bilateral dentigerous cysts are extremely rare, but clinicians should be aware of this condition to ensure prompt diagnosis and management and to prevent complications. CASE REPORT A case is presented of bilateral mandibular dentigerous cysts that were discovered incidentally in a 44-year-old man who presented for extraction of a retained maxillary deciduous tooth. Histological examination of the tissue specimens following bilateral enucleation confirmed the diagnosis of bilateral dentigerous cysts. CONCLUSIONS In this case, incidental bilateral dentigerous cysts were identified and treated by enucleation. The absence of an associated syndrome should not exclude the possibility of the diagnosis of dentigerous cysts, which should be removed to prevent future complications.

This case report discussed a combined surgical-orthodontic rescue of two impacted teeth in a large dentigerous cyst by the means of fixed orthodontic appliances. After careful evaluation of the 3D radiographic exams, extraction of the deciduous elements was carried out, followed by marsupialization and orthodontic traction of the impacted teeth. Dentigerous cyst belongs to one kind of odontogenic cysts, and is also known as follicular cyst. After the formation of the crown or root of the tooth, liquid exudates between the residual enamel epithelium and the crown surface to form odontogenic cysts. Multiple odontogenic cysts are rare in the oral and maxillofacial regions, especially in different areas of the jaw. In this paper, we reported case with multiple odontogenic cysts and discussed its etiology,pathological classification,differential diagnosis and treatment.

A male patient about 45 years old came to my private clinic "The Dental Aid", Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh last year (February 2016) with the complaint of pain at right palatal premolar region. On clinical examination we found the absence of upper left 2nd premolar from the series of dentition but on the right side premolars are present. The oral mucosa was intact and normal in color. There was no caries, dental pocket or any other pathology in the teeth of both jaws. On palpation we found soft area on the right palatal side at the premolar area. We took intraoral peri-apical radiograph and found impacted left 2nd premolar whose crown was encircled by radiolucent area at the palatal side. Here, we present a rare case of transmigrated and impacted left 2nd maxillary premolar associated with dentigerous cyst. The cyst was successfully treated under general anaesthesia by enucleation along with extraction of the involved maxillary transposed and impacted left second premolar.

Purpose: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of dentigerous cysts in children and adolescents with surgical windowing and orthodontic traction., Methods: A total of 19 cases were collected from the First People 's Hospital of Yongkang between 2014 to 2016. All cases were treated with surgical windowing and orthodontic traction. During the operation, fenestration was made to remove part of the cyst wall; full expose the tooth surface for adhesion, attach orthodontic traction attachments, reposition the mucosal flap and suture, and then start orthodontic treatment to guide teeth eruption for 1-2 months., Results: After treatment, the cysts were gradually decreased until disappeared. The teeth successfully reached the normal occlusal position; all erupted teeth have health periodontal tissues, normal pulp vitality, and good root morphology., Conclusions: Use of surgical windowing and orthodontic traction to treat dentigerous cysts in children and adolescents can achieve good clinical effect, which provides a new treatment method.
