Quantum confinement is recognized to be an inherent property in low-dimensional structures. Traditionally it is believed that the carriers trapped within the well cannot escape due to the discrete energy levels. However, our previous research has revealed efficient carrier escape in low-dimensional structures, contradicting this conventional understanding. In this study, we review the energy band structure of quantum wells considering it as a superposition of the bulk material dispersion and quantization energy dispersion resulting from the quantum confinement across the whole Brillouin zone. By accounting for all wave vectors, we obtain a certain distribution of carrier energy at each quantization energy level, giving rise to the energy subbands. These results enable carriers to escape from the well under the influence of an electric field. Additionally, we have compiled a comprehensive summary of various energy band scenarios in quantum well structures, relevant to carrier transport. Driver event discovery is a crucial demand for breast cancer diagnosis and therapy. Especially, discovering subtype-specificity of drivers can prompt the personalized biomarker discovery and precision treatment of cancer patients. still, most of the existing computational driver discovery studies mainly exploit the information from DNA aberrations and gene interactions. Notably, cancer driver events would occur due to not only DNA aberrations but also RNA alternations, but integrating multi-type aberrations from both DNA and RNA is still a challenging task for breast cancer drivers. On the one hand, the data formats of different aberration types also differ from each other, known as data format incompatibility. One the other hand, different types of aberrations demonstrate distinct patterns across samples, known as aberration type heterogeneity. To promote the integrated analysis of subtype-specific breast cancer drivers, we design a "splicing-and-fusing" framework to address the issues of data format incompatibility and aberration type heterogeneity respectively. To overcome the data format incompatibility, the "splicing-step" employs a knowledge graph structure to connect multi-type aberrations from the DNA and RNA data into a unified formation. To tackle the aberration type heterogeneity, the "fusing-step" adopts a dynamic mapping gene space integration approach to represent the multi-type information by vectorized profiles. The experiments also demonstrate the advantages of our approach in both the integration of multi-type aberrations from DNA and RNA and the discovery of subtype-specific breast cancer drivers. High quality semipolar and nonpolar GaN is crucial in achieving high-performance GaN-based optoelectronic devices, yet it has been very challenging to achieve large-area wafers that are free of basal-plane stacking faults (BSFs). In this work, we report an approach to prepare large-area, stacking-fault-free (SF-free) semipolar GaN on (4-inch) sapphire substrates. A root cause of the formation of BSFs is the emergence of N-polar (000-1) facets during semipolar and non-polar heteroepitaxy. Invoking the concept of kinetic Wulff plot, we succeeded in suppressing the occurrence of N-polar GaN (000-1) facets, and consequently in eliminating the stacking faults generated in (000-1) basal-planes. The result was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, cathodoluminescence, and low-temperature photoluminescence characterizations. Furthermore, InGaN light emitting diodes with promising characteristics have been produced on the SF-free semipolar (20-21) GaN on sapphire substrates. Our work opens up a new insight about the heteroepitaxial growth of nonpolar/semipolar GaN and provides an approach of producing SF-free nonpolar/semipolar GaN material over large-area wafers which will create new opportunities in GaN optoelectronic and microelectronic research.

We present an attention based visual analysis framework to compute grasp-relevant information in order to guide grasp planning using a multi-fingered robotic hand. Our approach uses a computational visual attention model to locate regions of interest in a scene, and uses a deep convolutional neural network to detect grasp type and point for a sub-region of the object presented in a region of interest. We demonstrate the proposed framework in object grasping tasks, in which the information generated from the proposed framework is used as prior information to guide the grasp planning. Results show that the proposed framework can not only speed up grasp planning with more stable configurations, but also is able to handle unknown objects. Furthermore, our framework can handle cluttered scenarios. A new Grasp Type Dataset (GTD) that considers 6 commonly used grasp types and covers 12 household objects is also presented.

The Slowly Pulsating B-type (SPB) stars are the upper main-sequence stars on the HR diagram. Their oscillations are high-order, low-degree g-mode and can be used to probe the structure of the radiative zone where is near the outer boundary of the convective core and constrain the chemical mixing in stellar interiors. In SPB stars, the period spacing periodically varies with periods. It has regarded as a signature of the chemical composition gradient beyond the convective core. Based on theoretical calculations, we find that the variation frequency of the period spacings ($f_{\Delta P}$) is related to the width of the $\mu$-gradient region on the buoyancy radius ($\Lambda_{\mu}$) with the relation of $f_{\Delta P}\sim0.5\Lambda_{\mu}$. This indicates that the variation frequency $f_{\Delta P}$ is sensitive to the central hydrogen mass fraction $X_{\rm C}$ (i.e., the evolutionary status). Finally, we find that the variation frequency $f_{\Delta P}$ and the means of the period spacings $\langle\Delta P\rangle$ can be used to construct a new C-D-like diagram ($f_{\Delta P}$ vs. $\langle\Delta P\rangle$) which can be used to roughly decide the stellar evolutionary stages and to approximately determine stellar mass for SPB stars., Comment: 11 figures, 2 tables, accepted by ApJ
