Abstract Background Previous research has established connections between the acromion index (AI), critical shoulder angle (CSA), acromiohumeral distance (AHD), and lateral acromion angle (LAA) with the incidence of rotator cuff tears (RCTs). Despite numerous international studies exploring the variability of shoulder joint morphology and parameters, research incorporating these parameters has yet to be conducted in Somalia. This study aims to analyze and describe the radiological parameters of acromion morphology in the Somali populations. Furthermore, to investigate the relationship of these parameters with rotator cuff tears within the Somali population. Methods The data and physical examination of 188 patients who had a CT scan of the shoulder from 2018 to 2023 were retrospective analyses, including 107 patients (49 females, 58 males) with RCT and 81 patients (20 females, 61 males) with non-RCT. Using Three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT), parameters such as the AI, CSA, AHD, and LAA were compared between the RCT and non-RCT groups. Two independent assessors measured Each parameter from anterior views of the scapula. The inter- and intra-observer reliability was evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Additionally, the relationship between these parameters and the presence of rotator cuff tears was explored, and the predictive value of each parameter was assessed through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Results The results showed excellent intra- and inter-observer reliability, with all ICC values above 0.75. Among these, the CSA exhibited the greatest measurement stability, with an intra-observer ICC of 0.929 and an inter-observer ICC of 0.911. Leaf rust, caused by Puccinia triticina Eriksson (Pt), is one of the most severe foliar diseases of wheat. Breeding for leaf rust resistance is a practical and sustainable method to control this devastating disease. Here, we report the identification of Lr47, a broadly effective leaf rust resistance gene introgressed into wheat from Aegilops speltoides. Lr47 encodes a coiled-coil nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat protein that is both necessary and sufficient to confer Pt resistance, as demonstrated by loss-of-function mutations and transgenic complementation. Lr47 introgression lines with no or reduced linkage drag are generated using the Pairing homoeologous1 mutation, and a diagnostic molecular marker for Lr47 is developed. The coiled-coil domain of the Lr47 protein is unable to induce cell death, nor does it have self-protein interaction. The cloning of Lr47 expands the number of leaf rust resistance genes that can be incorporated into multigene transgenic cassettes to control this devastating disease.

Focusing on the demand of energy and heavy machinery for high efficiency and high output capacity of transmission equipment, this research studies the multi-objective optimization of the NN type small tooth difference transmission with the highest efficiency and maximum output capacity. Firstly, traverse all tooth number combinations in the optimization space under different tooth number difference, different staggered tooth difference in a certain range of teeth, and get the tooth combinations table. Then, the multi-objective optimization model of the NN type small tooth difference transmission is established, taking the number of teeth combination, standard pressure angle, meshing angle, addendum height coefficient and displacement coefficient as the optimization design variables and considering the overlap ratio, tooth profile overlap interference and addendum thickness constraints. The multi-objective differential evolution algorithm based on Pareto is used to solve the optimization model, and the distribution of Pareto optimal solution set is obtained. The results obtained in this study are compared with those in the standard design manual. The comparison results show that the results in this study are better than those in the standard design manual, which can provide reference for the design of NN type small tooth difference transmission.

Calcium sulfate and calcium sulfate-based biomaterials have been widely used in non-load-bearing bone defects for hundreds of years due to their superior biocompatibility, biodegradability, and non-toxicity. However, lower compressive strength and rapid degradation rate are the main limitations in clinical applications. Excessive absorption causes a sharp increase in sulfate ion and calcium ion concentrations around the bone defect site, resulting in delayed wound healing and hypercalcemia. In addition, the space between calcium sulfate and the host bone, resulting from excessively rapid absorption, has adverse effects on bone healing or fusion techniques. This issue has been recognized and addressed. The lack of sufficient mechanical strength makes it challenging to use calcium sulfate and calcium sulfate-based biomaterials in load-bearing areas. To overcome these defects, the introduction of various inorganic additives, such as calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, and calcium silicate, into calcium sulfate is an effective measure. Inorganic materials with different physical and chemical properties can greatly improve the properties of calcium sulfate composites. For example, the hydrolysis products of calcium carbonate are alkaline substances that can buffer the acidic environment caused by the degradation of calcium sulfate; calcium phosphate has poor degradation, which can effectively avoid the excessive absorption of calcium sulfate; and calcium silicate can promote the compressive strength and stimulate new bone formation. The purpose of this review is to review the poor properties of calcium sulfate and its complications in clinical application and to explore the effect of various inorganic additives on the physicochemical properties and biological properties of calcium sulfate.

Environments such as light condition influence the spread of infectious diseases by affecting insect vector behavior. However, whether and how light affects the host defense which further affects insect preference and performance, remains unclear, nor has been demonstrated how pathogens co-adapt light condition to facilitate vector transmission. We previously showed that begomoviral βC1 inhibits MYC2-mediated jasmonate signaling to establish plant-dependent mutualism with its insect vector. Here we show red-light as an environmental catalyzer to promote mutualism of whitefly-begomovirus by stabilizing βC1, which interacts with PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTORS (PIFs) transcription factors. PIFs positively control plant defenses against whitefly by directly binding to the promoter of terpene synthase genes and promoting their transcription. Moreover, PIFs interact with MYC2 to integrate light and jasmonate signaling and regulate the transcription of terpene synthase genes. However, begomovirus encoded βC1 inhibits PIFs' and MYC2' transcriptional activity via disturbing their dimerization, thereby impairing plant defenses against whitefly-transmitted begomoviruses. Our results thus describe how a viral pathogen hijacks host external and internal signaling to enhance the mutualistic relationship with its insect vector.
