A discussion of the current state of research into spin wave excitations in arrays of magnetic dots and wires is presented. An experimental study of spin wave properties in arrays of micron size magnetic wires, circular dots and rectangular elements indicates that changes in the spin wave spectrum are attributable to lateral confinement effects.

The effect of the phase shift between the signal and pumping wave on the process of parametric amplification of microwave spin wave pulses is investigated. It is shown that the amplitude of the amplified output pulse can be changed in the range of 15 dB by varying the phase shift between the signal and the pumping waves by pi.

The space- and time-resolved Brilloulin light scattering technique is used to study the effect of parametric pumping on the dynamics of linear and nonlinear wave packets in the course of their propagation. It was observed that the formation of a spin wave (SW) envelope soliton from a reversed phase-conjugated SW pulse resulted from a parametric interaction of the input SW pulse with weakly localized microwave pumping.

The spectroscopic ellipsometry and magneto-optical (MO) study of molecular beam epitaxy grown Au(5 nm)/Fe(1.1 nm)/Au(t)/Fe(1.1 nm)/Au(100 nm)/Fe(1 nm)/MgO(001) structures with t between 1 and 2.5 nm at photon energies between 1.5 and 5.4 eV is discussed. A stronger effect of interfaces on the electronic properties at in-plane magnetization and an additional well-resolved structure between 3 and 4 eV is observed in ultrathin magnetic films.

Research into the oxidation mechanisms of the creation of thin insulating barriers in magnetic tunnel junctions is presented. It was possible to identify two different oxidation mechanisms, ion embedding and diffusion.

A new advanced space- and time-resolved Brillouin light scattering technique is used to study diffraction of two-dimensional beams and pulses of dipolar spin waves excited by strip-line antennas in tangentially magnetized garnet films. The technique is an effective tool for investigations of two-dimensional spin wave propagation with high spatial and temporal resolution.

The observation of spin wave quantization in tangentially magnetized Ni(sub 80)Fe(sub 20) disks by means of Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy is reported. The modes are identified as being magnetostatic surface spin wave modes quantized by their lateral confinement in the disk.

The first experimental observation of a spacer-thickness dependent oscillatory exchange bias effect in ferromagnet (FM)/spacer/antiferromagnet trilayers is reported. The period of the oscillatory exchange bias field is found to be half of the period of the oscillatory interlayer coupling in the corresponding FM/spacer/FM systems with the same spacer, indicating that the observed effect is caused by an analogous coupling mechanism.

We report on measurements of the two-dimensional intensity distribution of linear and non-linear spin wave excitations in a LuBiFeO film. The spin wave intensity was detected using a high-resolution Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy setup. The observed snake-like structure of the spin wave intensity distribution is understood as a mode beating between modes with different lateral spin wave amplitude distributions. The theoretical treatment of the linear regime is performed analytically, whereas the propagation of non-linear spin waves is simulated by a numerical solution of a non-linear Schrodinger equation with suitable boundary conditions. Fe/Au multilayers are treated by pregrowth and postgrowth ion-beam bombardments in order to optimize their magnetic properties. Ion collisions have locally minimized the interface energy by providing the energy required for localized demixing, thus resulting in a smoothing effect.

Parametric pumping is used for creating a gas of thermalized quasiequilibrium magnons with a nonzero chemical potential in an yttrium iron garnet film. A very narrow peak of magnon population is created at the lowest magnon frequency, where this peak is associated with Bose-Einstein condensation of magnons.

Magnetic patterning of antiferromagnetically coupled epitaxial Fe (10 nm/Cr (0.7 nm)/Fe (10 nm) (001) trilayers by irradiation with 30 keV Ga+ ions is studied by means of atomic force microscopy, magnetic force microscopy, and Kerr magnetometry. It is showed that a fluence regime exists which allows for a complete transition from the initial antiferromagnetic state to the ferromagnetic state and at the same time, preserves the flatness of the patterned system.
