The COVID-19 pandemic may have substantially impacted adolescents' mental health. Therefore, this study aims to assess the influence of exposure to parental intimate partner violence (IPV) and demographic variables on adolescents' self-esteem. A cross-sectional approach was used in this study. The sample consisted of 214 adolescents from different areas in Kerala, India, who completed the Cooper Smith Self-Esteem and Child Exposure to Domestic Violence questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple regression analysis, and an independent t -test. Results indicated that exposure to parental IPV and demographic variables such as parents' education, occupation, and family income significantly predict self-esteem in adolescents. Moreover, high exposure to parental IPV may cause low self-esteem in adolescents. School and family-based online interventions are needed to protect IPV-affected adolescents and enhance their self-esteem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cyberloafing, defined as the use of Internet for personal purposes during working hours, is an increasing phenomenon in view of a broad spread of Internet technologies. Although the majority of research on cyberloafing behaviors has focused on employers' cyberloafing in different organizational environments, very little is known about its prevalence in educational settings. At the same time, there have been few research studies on the relationship between cyberloafing behaviors and other important occupational variables in mainstream education, such as teacher burnout. In this light, the present study examined the cyberloafing situation among Iranian English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers and its possible variances in terms of two demographic factors of school type and educational level. Additionally, it explored the possible association between the cyberloafing behaviors and the occupational variable of teacher burnout. To this end, 824 EFL teachers, working in different Iranian high schools, first responded to the cyberloafing scale of Akbulut et al. (2016). The scale had been validated in the pilot phase of the study through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The participants also responded to Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educator's Survey, developed and validated by Maslach et al. (1996). The findings revealed that the engagement of the participants in cyberloafing behaviors was at a moderate level. They were more involved in the sharing dimension. Also, the teachers in junior high schools reported a significantly higher level of cyberloafing behaviors. As for teacher burnout, the multiple regression analyses depicted significant contributions of the three burnout factors, especially depersonalization, to the different cyberloafing dimensions. The pedagogical implications for educational policymakers and L2 teacher educators are also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study is to determine teachers' digital competency on the basis of European DigCompEdu framework and its relationships with some demographic and teacher characteristics. It was designed as a cross–sectional survey within the quantitative research paradigm. The sample consisted of 368 (199 male and 169 female) teachers working in a major city located in the Central Anatolia of Türkiye during the 2021–2022 academic year. Data were collected through a questionnaire including the Digital Competencies Scale for Educators and questions regarding teachers' demographic and professional characteristics such as age, gender, subject taught, educational background, school level and location of employment. The findings reveal that participating teachers are at the integrator (B1) level of digital competency on average and those who are male, teach math and science related courses, have postgraduate degree, and work in metropolitan cities are more digitally competent than their counterparts. Teachers' digital competency is independent of their age and type of school whereas it is positively and moderately associated with the number of digital devices teachers had. Furthermore, the regression analysis explains 25% of its variance through gender, educational background, subject and the number of information technology devices as being the significant predictors. Purpose: To identify correlations between demographic, health-related, environmental factors and the employment status of power wheelchair (PWC) users. Method: We retrospectively analysed semi-structured interviews with 128 participants, their assistants or family members, and the participant's provided medical records. Participants were adult PWC users who applied for grants in purchasing a new PWC for gaining or keeping employment between 2019–2021 in Mazovian Province, Poland. Results: Forty-six PWC users (35.9%) were employed while applying for the financial support programme. Fischer's Exact Test of Independence identified positive correlations between employment and education level (p < 0.001), residing in an urban area (p = 0.02), being employed before starting PWC use (p < 0.001), having vocational rehabilitation (p < 0.001), and living in a relationship (p = 0.002). There were no associations between employment status and sex, age at study entry, age at disability onset, living alone or with others, duration of PWC use, or full or part-time PWC use. Our findings indicate that PWC users are at risk of non-employment and financial hardship. This research may support policies for PWC provision that would support gainful employment. The results show that access to quality education, vocational rehabilitation, and perhaps the physical/emotional support from others in close relationships matter. These aspects should be considered in educational policies, transportation, and physical environmental accessibility for PWC users, supporting their gainful employment. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Paid employment is recognised for its positive impact on the financial situation, health, and overall life satisfaction of power wheelchair users. Rehabilitation professionals can play a crucial role in facilitating the attainment and maintenance of employment throughout the clinical process. Educating power wheelchair users with factors conducive to supporting their employment, such as pursuing advanced education, utilising vocational rehabilitation services, residing in urban areas, fostering meaningful social relationships, and drawing upon previous employment experiences, may improve outcomes. Sex, age, disability cause, duration of disability, and reliance on a power wheelchair as the primary mode of mobility were found to be unrelated to employment status among power wheelchair users. Further investigation into the needs of the power wheelchair user population in their pursuit of gainful employment is justified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ELASTICITY (Economics) , *NUTRITION , *PROBABILITY density function , *PURCHASE orders , *CONSUMPTION (Economics) - Abstract
Meat as one of the most important resources of protein has a special role in human nutrition. Understanding the meat consumption structure of households is essential for planning and policymaking in this regard. In this research, we studied consumption patterns of meat products including chicken, veal, lamb, and fish for households in Iran (Mashhad city) using demand system estimation. The hypothesis of this study is that chicken is a necessary goods and other types of meat are luxury goods. Given the cross-sectional nature of the data and presence of zero expenditure for some households, we used the censored demand model based on a consistent two-step approach. For this purpose, at first, four Probit models were estimated to determine the factors affecting the probability of purchasing each selected meat product. After that, the probability density function (PDF) and the cumulative distribution function (CDF) were calculated for each selected meat product, and the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) considering PDF and CDF was estimated for all types of meat using a non-linear seemingly unrelated regression. Also, the effect of demographic variables on meat consumption pattern was considered in demand system. The results of expenditure elasticities confirmed the hypothesis. The highest own-price elasticity was related to veal. Based on compensated price elasticities, all types of meat were net substitutes for chicken and chicken was also a net complement for all types of meat. On the other hand, the only substitute for lamb and chicken was veal, but with compensating income effect fish also became a substitute for them. So, in the event of an increase of the price of lamb and chicken, we recommend subsidizing the consumers with low purchasing power in order to increase the diversity of consumption of protein products. This can increase the consumption of fish. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The economic vibrancy of most small communities is generally driven by Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) of different kind. Although the existence of these SMMEs tend to depend mainly on the disposition of the entrepreneur, the role of demographic variables tend to be very significant when it comes to their profitability and long-term survival. A myriad of research studies have highlighted the role of demographic characteristics. The paper aims to establish the influence of demographic variables on SMME sustainability and success. We employed a positivist research approach, which is descriptive in nature. A survey was used to collect data from 117 randomly sampled owners/managers respondents from a myriad of SMMEs in the Matjhabeng municipality in Welkom. Yielding a response rate of 69%. A regression analysis and interpretation was conducted to determine the influence of variables to each other. The regression data analysis revealed a mixed-bag of results with (i) education level, (ii) household income and (iii) consumer mobility reporting a significant relationship with SMME sustainability. Conversely, (iv) age level and (v) past work experience showed no significant relationship with SMME sustainability. To ensure sustained SMME growth and success, owner/managers must embrace and entrench a culture of investing not only in their self-development, but that of their team members/workforce as well. The study provides empirical evidence of the positive relationship between demographic variables and SMME's sustained success and survival. Confirming that education and experience in particular are critical predictors of SMME success if investment on the most important asset, people, is given a high priority. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and purpose: Moral courage is a crucial aspect of the nursing profession that significantly influences the quality of healthcare services. Moral courage refers to the courage or inner strength that an individual exhibits in ethical situations, acting based on their ethical principles, values, and beliefs despite potential negative consequences for themselves. Enhancing moral courage in nurses can lead to better decision-making and improved healthcare quality, thus, the understanding of the various factors related to this characteristic is of great importance. This article aims to investigate the relationship between moral courage and the personal and occupational characteristics of nurses. Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study. The research population in this study consisted of all nurses employed in hospitals affiliated with Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences in the eastern province of Mazandaran. The sample size was determined to be 300 individuals. Sampling was conducted using the convenience sampling method. Data was collected through a questionnaire related to demographic characteristics (age, gender, marital status, education level, type of employment, years of service, service department, shift work, hospital of service, and history of attending ethics courses or seminars), and the Sekerka Ethical Courage questionnaire was utilized. Data analysis was performed using measures of central tendency, standard deviation, independent t-tests, analysis of variance, and multiple linear regression. SPSS 22 software was employed for data analysis, with a significance level of less than 0.05. Results: The average age of the participants was 32.85±7.54 years. The average score of nurses' moral courage was 60.24±4.37 out of (105), indicating a moderate level. The highest score of moral courage was commonly associated with the moral agent dimension (13.87±1.42) and multiple values (13.43±1.54), while the lowest score of ethical courage was related to the threat tolerance dimension (8.82±1.74). Participation in ethics courses had a significant effect on the moral courage score (P=0.004), where nurses with a history of attending ethics courses obtained higher scores in moral courage. Other variables did not have a significant impact on the ethical courage score. Regression analysis results also showed that only participation in ethics courses had a significant effect on the moral courage score, as nurses without a history of attending these courses scored lower (1.26 units). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it was revealed that participation in ethics-related training courses has a significant impact on nurses' ethical courage. These results indicate that ethics-related education (familiarity with professional ethics principles in nursing, values, and ethics in nursing decision-making, ethics in patient confidentiality and privacy, ethical collaboration and interaction with colleagues and other members of the healthcare team, patient involvement in ethical decision-making, ethical relationships with patient's families, and respect for their rights) can help strengthen and enhance nurses' ethical courage. Since ethical courage plays a crucial role in nurses' decision-making in challenging situations, designing effective and appropriate educational programs in this area can contribute to improving the quality of care and fostering a more ethical environment in the nursing setting.

This study examines the effect of e-taxation system on government tax revenue in Nigeria, employing hypothesis testing and regression analysis to explore key influencing factors such as awareness levels, behavioral responses, technological advancements, and demographic variables. The study finds that while there is a statistically significant relationship between awareness levels and the distinction between businesses and individuals, the impact of awareness alone on e-taxation effectiveness is relatively weak. However, positive behavioral responses to e-taxation initiatives significantly enhance government revenue, highlighting the critical role of fostering responsible taxpayer behavior. Technological advancements, such as block chain and digital currencies, show a strong positive correlation with the efficiency and effectiveness of e-taxation systems, this underscores the necessity of ongoing investment in cutting-edge technologies to maintain and improve e-taxation infrastructure. Additionally, demographic factors such as age, education, and income significantly influence the adoption and effectiveness of e-taxation policies. The study recommended that a targeted awareness campaigns segmented by demographics (age, income level, location) and business types should be developed. Also, appropriate communication channels (social media, SMS, workshops) tailored to each segment to ensure clear and effective messaging should be utilized. Focus should be on educating taxpayers about the benefits of e-taxation systems, such as convenience, efficiency, and security. Similarly, initiatives that incentivize timely tax filing, accurate reporting, and efficient utilization of e-taxation platforms should be implemented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to explore 10-year trends in the use of Assistive Technology (AT). Using 2006 and 2015 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, univariate analysis were performed, and the rate of change was calculated. In both 2006 and 2015 data, a higher per cent of Blacks were using AT compared to Whites and Hispanics (p <.001); however, the rate of increase indicate that Blacks had the lowest per cent change (23.9%) compared to Whites (26.8%) and Hispanics (27.3%). Results indicated that AT use is statistically more prevalent in women, individuals who are not married (e.g. divorce, widowed, separated), the veteran population, lower educational attainment levels (e.g. some high school or less), lower income levels, the ageing population, unemployed (e.g. out of work, retired, unable to work) and individuals with limited functioning because of a disability. Similarly, individuals who have healthcare coverage, and individuals with concerns with medical costs used AT more. Even though most factors yielded higher utilisation rates when comparing 2006 to 2015 data, the rate of change had varying 'speeds' of improvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the past decades, the world has witnessed significant growth in environmental issues such as the generation of waste, climatic changes, and depletion of natural resources. Due to this, there has been a substantial upsurge in consumers who prefer green products. Hence, exploring the stable set of characteristics of green consumers becomes extremely important for organizations to develop customer‐oriented targeting and segmenting strategies. The present study attempts to explore key factors influencing green purchase behavior and the behavioral profile of green consumers in the Indian context. The study surveyed 400 respondents from Punjab. Multivariate analysis was performed to analyze the data. The results of the analysis revealed three distinctive consumer clusters based on green purchase behavior. "Pro‐environmentals" represent the segment of green consumers. Consumers of this cluster were found to be highly environmentally conscious. Besides this, the study confirmed noticeable differences in the three clusters in terms of gender, age, number of children, and marital status. Finally, the results indicated the behavioral profile of green and non‐green consumers and explained prominent differences between the three clusters. This knowledge shall enable marketers to design tailor‐made marketing strategies focusing on the specific needs of each consumer cluster. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BackgroundThere were an estimated 100,306 drug overdose deaths between April 2020 and April 2021, a three-quarter increase from the prior 12-month period. There is an approximate 6-month reporting lag for provisional counts of drug overdose deaths from the National Vital Statistics System, and the highest level of geospatial resolution is at the state level. By contrast, public social media data are available close to real-time and are often accessible with precise coordinates.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to assess whether county-level overdose mortality burden could be estimated using opioid-related Twitter data.MethodsInternational Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes for poisoning or exposure to overdose at the county level were obtained from CDC WONDER. Demographics were collected from the American Community Survey. The Twitter Application Programming Interface was used to obtain tweets that contained any of the 36 terms with drug names. An unsupervised classification approach was used for clustering tweets. Population-normalized variables and polynomial population-normalized variables were produced. Furthermore, z scores of the Getis Ord Gi clustering statistic were produced, and both these scores and their polynomial counterparts were explored in regression modeling of county-level overdose mortality burden. A series of linear regression models were used for predictive modeling to explore the interpretability of the analytical output.ResultsModeling overdose mortality with normalized demographic variables alone explained only 7.4% of the variability in county-level overdose mortality, whereas this was approximately doubled by the use of specific demographic and Twitter data covariates based on a backward selection approach. The highest adjusted R2 and lowest AIC (Akaike Info Criterion) were obtained for the model with normalized demographic variables, normalized z scores from geospatial analyses, and normalized topic counts (adjusted R2=0.133, AIC=8546.8). The z scores of the Getis Ord Gi statistic appeared to have improved utility over population-normalization alone. In this model, median age, female population, and tweets about web-based drug sales were positively associated with opioid mortality. Asian race and Hispanic ethnicity were significantly negatively associated with county-level burdens of overdose mortality.ConclusionsSocial media data, when transformed using certain statistical approaches, may add utility to the goal of producing closer to real-time county-level estimates of overdose mortality. Prediction of opioid-related outcomes can be advanced to inform prevention and treatment decisions. This interdisciplinary approach can facilitate evidence-based funding decisions for various substance use disorder prevention and treatment programs.

A plethora of scientific evidence has pinpointed that teaching English as a foreign or second language (EFL) is difficult, challenging, and emotionally burdensome. Nevertheless, most English language teachers remain committed to the teaching profession and actively engage in the instructional environment. This has inspired several scholars worldwide to explore what personal, emotional, and psychological factors motivate English language teachers to engage enthusiastically in their workplace. While a large body of studies have to date examined the personal, emotional, and psychological predictors of English language teachers' work engagement, to our knowledge, no inquiry has investigated the role of academic buoyancy and self-efficacy in predicting EFL teachers' work engagement. Furthermore, the potential impact of demographic variables on the interplay between EFL teachers' academic buoyancy, self-efficacy, and work engagement has been disregarded. To bridge this gap, we examined the interplay of these three constructs among Chinese EFL teachers. To do so, we administered three pre-designed questionnaires to 242 EFL teachers working in Chinese schools and universities. The collected data were then analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The outcomes of SEM divulged positive and strong relationships between Chinese EFL teachers' academic buoyancy, self-efficacy, and work engagement. The SEM results also indicated that academic buoyancy and self-efficacy could strongly and favorably predict Chinese EFL teachers' work engagement. Additionally, the study outcomes disclosed that demographic variables, including gender, educational degree, and teaching experience, directly impacted the interplay between Chinese EFL teachers' academic buoyancy, self-efficacy, and work engagement. These results may have significant implications for English teachers, teacher trainers, and educational principals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The growing demand for organic food in recent years has led to increase an interest in studying consumers' attitude and perception towards organic food products. The study explores consumer perception and awareness towards organic food in Haryana's National Capital Region (NCR), with an emphasis on demographic variables and market dynamics. Primary data was collected from a sample of 300 respondents using a structured questionnaire between the months of September-October 2023 year. Factor analysis revealed two significant factors influencing consumers' attitude were "Attitudes towards Organic Food" and "Consumer Perception and Market Dynamics." While consumers in the NCR reflected positive attitudes towards organic food, driven by perceptions of health and environmental benefits, location was found to have no significant effect on attitudes but does influence perceptions of market dynamics. The study highlights the importance of consumer awareness and understanding market dynamics for promoting sustainable consumption patterns and engaging stakeholders in the organic food industry. Overall, these findings contribute to a better understanding of consumer behavior towards organic food products in the context of the NCR region, offering insights for policymakers, farmers, and industry stakeholders to promote organic food consumption and production. Sensory tests are essential components of comfort studies, and constructing a sensory panel is a crucial step of this process. In the current study, Total Hand (TH) scores of 41 woven fabrics were determined by assessors having different demographic characteristics. Assessment accuracy and inter-rater reliability of panel members were investigated via correlation and concordance analyses. Effect of demographic variables (gender, age, and level of expertise), panel size and sampling method on sensory evaluation results were discussed based on statistical measures. Findings of the study certified that sensory evaluations carried out with female panel members represent overall TH scores more successfully than males and assessment of female participants are in a better agreement with each other. It was also observed that assessment accuracy and interrater agreement improved with increasing levels of expertise. Investigations revealed that small panel sizes were sufficient to accurately evaluate fabric hand. Therefore, it was concluded that increasing the number of participants may not necessarily provide further information on comfort preferences and perceptions of potential customers. Growing antibiotic resistance complicates H. pylori eradication, posing a public health challenge. Inconclusive research on sociodemographic and clinical factors emphasizes the necessity for further investigations. Hence, this study aims to evaluate the correlation between demographic and clinical factors and the success rates of H. pylori eradication. A group of 162 H. pylori-positive patients were allocated randomly to receive either a ten-day moxifloxacin-based triple therapy or a levofloxacin-based sequential therapy. Eradication success was determined through the stool antigen test. Logistic regression analysis was utilized to figure out potential factors that contribute to H. pylori eradication success. Significantly higher H. pylori eradication rates were observed in the middle age group (COR: 3.671, p = 0.007), among females (p = 0.035), those with BMI ≥ 25 (COR: 2.011, p = 0.045), and non-smokers (COR: 2.718, p = 0.018). In multivariate analysis, age and smoking emerged as significant predictors (p < 0.05). Patients with comorbidities, excluding diabetes and hypertension (COR: 4.432, p = 0.019), dyspepsia (COR: 0.178, p < 0.001), and moxifloxacin triple therapy (COR: 0.194, p = 0.000), exhibited higher chances of eradication (p < 0.05). Further research is vital for tailored approaches to enhance eradication success. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Religion and work motivation have been acknowledged as critical factors affecting workplace behaviors. While many studies have juxtaposed these two variables, the effort to really explore the connection between these factors is almost non-existent. Exploring the interconnection of these two factors is arguably essential either to understand workplace behavior to a greater extent or to enhance the sensemaking of religion–work motivation comprehension. The cross-sectional analysis involving 928 respondents from various religious affiliations suggests the linearity of religion–work motivation pairs. The present study concludes that intrinsic religiosity aligns with both identified regulation and intrinsic motivation; extrinsic religiosity–social aligns with extrinsic regulation–social; and extrinsic religiosity–personal aligns with introjected regulation.

Background: The United Nations Children's Fund and global partners define an orphan as a child who has lost one or both parents. Orphanages, children's villages, or other group residential facilities generally fail to meet young people's emotional and psychological needs. Research indicates that orphaned youth face more negative psychosocial challenges than their younger counterparts do. This study was carried out to find out the association of the psychological well-being of adolescent orphans with the selected demographic variables. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out among 115 adolescent orphans in orphanage of the Srinagar district between July 2020 and February 2021 using standardized psychological well-being scale given by Carol Ryff. Association of psychological well-being, with its dimensions, and selected demographic variables were assessed. Results: Group mean difference on psychological well-being revealed that double-orphan adolescents have significantly lower psychological well-being as compared to the half-orphan adolescents. The study also revealed that habitat was significantly associated with overall psychological well-being and one of the dimensions of psychological well-being, i.e., positive relations with others. Educational status was found to have a significant association with the autonomy dimension of psychological well-being only, where as the type of orphan shows a significant association with overall psychological well-being and self-acceptance dimension of psychological well-being. Time spent in orphanage also shows significant association with purpose in life and self-acceptance dimension of psychological well-being. Conclusions: There is a need for organized social support to improve the physical and psychological health of orphans.

The 21st-century skills (21CSs) such as Digital Age Literacy (DAL), Inventive Thinking (IT), High Productivity (HP), Effective Communication (EC), and Spiritual Values (SV) encompass various abilities that are essential for adapting to the demands of the modern era and ensuring future success. This research was conducted to determine the developmental levels of high school students' 21CSs and to understand the impact of some demographic characteristics on these skills. Data related to the developmental levels of high school students' 21CSs and some demographic characteristics (gender, financial status of the family, educational status of the mother, educational status of the father, and type of high school graduated) were collected using the 21st-Century Skills Scale (21CSS) adapted into Turkish by Erkılıç (2020). The scale was converted into an online survey shape and administered to 200 high school students studying in some of General, Anatolian, Science, and Vocational High Schools in the Konya province during the 2021-2022 academic year. The statistical analysis of the obtained data was conducted using the SPSS 23.00 software. Descriptive statistical analyses were used for the demographic data, while parametric tests were employed to analyze the relationships between variables. According to the results of the statistical analysis, it was determined that most of the demographic characteristics of high school students did not have a significant impact on the 21CSs of the high school students. On the other hand, it has been determined that there is a statistically significant difference in the development levels of students' Digital Age Literacy and High Productivity skills based on the mother's educational status.

This study assessed the influence of occupational stress, individual resilience, and organizational resilience on the safety performance of healthcare providers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Demographic variables including age, work experience, and gender were explored. Data were collected from 344 healthcare providers employed at a teaching hospital. The entropy method and the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method were used to examine the influence of occupational stress, individual resilience, and organizational resilience on the safe performance of healthcare providers. The results of the entropy method showed that organizational resilience was the most influential factor in the safe performance of older healthcare providers. In contrast, individual resilience was the most significant factor in enhancing the safety performance of younger healthcare providers. Analyses of work experience indicated that individual resilience was the most influential factor in the safe performance of less experienced healthcare providers. Gender-based analysis revealed that individual resilience had a major effect on the safety performance of both women and men. The findings of this study could assist managers in improving the performance of the healthcare sector during pandemics by using and implementing resilience concepts at both the individual and organizational levels.

Background and Aim: Women referring to health centers are one of the most important groups at risk of disease. Thus, in order to enjoy a high level of health, it is necessary for them to have health literacy. The purpose of this research was to find the demographic predictors of health literacy in women referring to comprehensive health service centers in Zahedan, Iran. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical study including 400 women selected by random cluster sampling from health centers under coverage of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in 2022. The short form of the HELIA standard questionnaire was used to measure health literacy of the women. Data were analyzed using SPSS-22 software, the statistical tests being ANOVA, Kendall's correlation, and multiple regression. Results: The subjects were between 18 and 60 years old. They were found to have obtained most of the information related to health and disease by asking doctors and healthcare workers (about 52.25%). The scores of the components of the subjects’ health literacy were as follows: average health literacy 69.91±23.34, reading 72.17±29.80, access 34.73±27.91, understanding 71.41±29.43, assessment 62.10±25.51, and the scope of decision-making and behavior 71.49±20.27. The strongest predictor of health literacy was found to be education, such that with an increase in the level of education, the health literacy of a woman would increase by 0.53 units. In addition, education variables, income level, age and ethnicity would predict 55% of the health literacy of the women. Conclusion: This study shows that the health literacy score is related to age, education level, marital status, occupation, economic status and ethnicity, the strongest predictor of health literacy being the a high level of education. Therefore, considering the available evidence on the importance of health literacy and factors related to it and the low level of health literacy of women in this study, it is clear that women need to acquire, process and understand the basic information on health and therapeutic services in order to be able to make appropriate decisions. Briefly, women need to receive simple and understandable information and have more time to communicate with the health service personnel to understand health information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Defense mechanisms are unconscious psychological operations that function to protect a person from anxiety-producing thoughts and feelings that mediate the individual's reaction to emotional internal conflicts and to external stressors. Challenging academic curriculum in dentistry can result in elevated levels of stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, suicidal intent, and other mental health issues. The aim of the current investigation was therefore to examine the prevalence and type of defense styles used by dental students as well as to analyze associations of these defenses with some demographic and academic factors. The study was based on a cross-sectional design and used convenience sampling to recruit a total of 125 preclinical dentistry students. Defensive functioning was measured by using the Defense Style Questionnaire - modified form (DSQ-20). The results showed that according to their mean scores, the most employed EDM was sublimation, followed by rationalization and idealization. Two conceptual patterns of defenses (mature and immature) tend to co-occur in males as well as in general, men endorsed psychological defenses to a higher degree than did women. There were no significant associations with students' age and year of study. Contrary to previous reports, a significant negative correlation between academic performance and mature defense styles was found. Proper implementation of defenses might contribute to reducing symptoms of maladaptive behavior, ensuring a better psychological well-being, and increasing quality of life. Considering educational environment, this might facilitate better outcomes in academic field and subsequently, better professional realization of future dentists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study evaluated demographic variables, computer self-efficacy, and informationseeking behavior of undergraduate students at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. The study used a descriptive survey design of the correlational type, and the instrument for collecting data was a questionnaire. Undergraduates of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria constitute the unit of analysis and their population stood at 45,885. Multi-stage sampling techniques that include stratified and purposive sampling were adopted. The sampling size was set at 394, but 366 returned questionnaires were found useful for analysis. The result of findings on the level of computer self-efficacy among undergraduate students at the University of Ilorin indicated that students are highly versed in using computers as a tool, sorting out information from search results, knowing how to access information databases and information repositories, and easily finding the information they need with their computer skills. On students’ information-seeking behavior, most users agreed that they consult the library when seeking information that could assist them in their course of study and academic program, and they are willing to pay for relevant information and always check for currency and relevance of the information sources they’re using. There is a strong and significant positive relationship between computer self-efficacy and informationseeking behavior. There is no significant relationship between demographic variables and computer self-efficacy.
