Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between diabetic nephropathy (DN) and triglyceride/glucose (TyG) index and triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (Tg/HDL-C) as surrogate markers of insulin resistance. Method: Medical records of 15,378 individuals between February 2019 and May 2024 were examined. Serum glucose, Tg, HDL-C, HbA1c, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and urine albumin/creatinine ratio (UACR) were evaluated and the TyG index and TG/HDL-C ratios were calculated for each individual. DN was defined as a UACR ≥ 30 mg/g and/or eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m2. Results: Of 10,714 patients, DN was detected in 3763 (35.1%). Females had 10% higher odds of developing DN compared to males. A TyG index at or above the determined cutoff point (9.58) indicated a risk of DN and the sensitivity and specificity values were 44.01% and 71.28%, respectively. The risk of DN was 1.95 times higher in individuals with a TyG index value of ≥9.58 compared to those with a TyG index <9.58. While the Tg/HDL ratio was significant in detecting DN in the univariate analysis (odds ratio (OR) 1.59; 95% confidence interval 1.46–1.73), this significance was not found in the multivariate analysis (OR 1.15; 95% confidence interval 0.94–1.40). OBJECTIVE: The aim was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) Dyspnea Scale in Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) patients with Interstitial Lung Disease. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Thirty patients diagnosed with SSc according to the 2013 EULAR/ACR criteria were included. After recording the demographic data of the patients, dyspnea was evaluated with the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), exercise capacity with the 6 Minute Walk Distance (6MWD), fatigue level with the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), disease activity with the Medsger Disease Severity Scale, skin involvement with the Modified Rodnan Skin Score, and dyspnea level with the mMRC Dyspnea Scale. The mMRC Dyspnea Scale was administered to the patients with SSc who did not receive any treatment for test-retest reliability at 1-week intervals. RESULTS: The observed scale range in mMRC (TR) was 0-4, and twelve out of the thirty patients (40%) were classified as having "moderate dyspnea." mMRC (TR) showed a significant moderate positive correlation with VAS dyspnea (rho: 0.718), a low negative correlation with 6MWD (rho: -0.445), and a low positive correlation with FSS (rho: 0.385). The weighted kappa statistic, used as an agreement scale for ordinal responses, was found to be 0.587 (indicating moderate agreement). CONCLUSION: The Turkish version of the mMRC Dyspnea Scale demonstrates validity and reliability in SSc patients with interstitial lung disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to analyze both thoracic and lumbar erector spinae muscle activations during three different types of 3-dimensional elongation exercises in individuals with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Participants included 24 adolescents with AIS with a double curve (S type scoliosis), meeting specific criteria, such as a Cobb angle between 10° and 20° and not having undergone surgical or brace treatments. Electromyography (EMG) data were collected to evaluate muscle activation. Three-dimensional scoliosis-specific exercises were applied as 3 different exercise types with TheraBand resistance, manual stimulation, and breathing inducement from convex side to concave side until a symmetric position was maintained with self-correction. Different exercise types significantly affected muscle activity, with the highest activations in TheraBand resistance, followed by manual and just breathing inducement conditions for the convex and concave sides of the thoracic and lumbar regions. This suggests that exercise type significantly impacts muscle engagement in AIS patients, providing valuable insights for targeted exercise program design. Specially, the muscle activation of TheraBand resistive exercise can be an alternative with more muscle activation and motivational effects during a 3D scoliosis-specific exercise program. Purpose: To investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Ottawa Sitting Scale (OSS-T) in patients with acute stroke. Materials and methods: The Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS) were used to determine the validity of the OSS-T. The OSS-T was re-applied by the same rater after an interval of 7 days to determine the reliability. To test inter-rater reliability, the evaluation was repeated by a second rater 1 day after the first evaluation. Reliability was quantified using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), and validity was assessed by correlating the OSS-T scores with the results of the other measures. Results: The ICC of the total OSS-T score for inter-rater reliability was 0.996 and for intra-rater reliability, it was 0.951. The Cronbach's α coefficient used to determine internal consistency was 0.980, which indicates excellent reliability. A strong positive correlation was found between OSS-T and TIS (rho = 0.861, p < 0.001), and between OSS-T and BBS (rho = 0.875, p < 0.001). An evident 2-factor structure was shown by the results of the factor analysis. Conclusions: The results of this study indicated that the OSS-T has strong measurement properties, making it a valid and reliable tool for research and clinical practice in patients with acute stroke. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Independent sitting function is an important indicator of functional recovery and discharge from hospital. Unlike other sitting balance tools, the Ottawa Sitting Scale can even categorize patients with low balance reserve by applying all the items with and without foot support. To investigate biomechanics, muscle performance, and disability of the craniocervical region in temporomandibular disorder (TMD) patients and compare them with controls. Craniocervical posture was evaluated using lateral photography and radiography. Range of motion, muscle performance, disability, and TMD severity were assessed using an inclinometer, Functional Strength Testing of Cervical Spine, Neck Disability Index, and Fonseca Anamnestic Index, respectively. Compared to the control group, the TMD group demonstrated higher cervical flexion angle (p=0.005) and neck disability (p<0.001) as well as lower cervical extension (p=0.040), right cervical rotation (p=0.005), left cervical rotation (p<0.001), and tragus-C7-horizontal (p=0.048) angles, and reduced muscle performances (p≤0.001). Most patients had higher than normal craniocervical angle (p<0.001). Muscle performance in each cervical motion (p<0.005) and disability (p<0.001) were associated with TMD severity in the TMD group. Purpose: The 12-item Örebro Musculoskeletal Screening Questionnaire (ÖMSQ-12) is a multidimensional questionnaire assessing general musculoskeletal problems. This study aimed to investigate its construct validity and reliability. Materials and methods: Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed for construct validity. The Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) and the SF-12 and Pain Numerical Rating Scale (P-NRS) were used for convergent validity. Reliability (ICC), internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), reproducibility, and known-group validity were assessed. The cut-off value was measured. Results: A total of n=378 individuals (aged 35.7 ± 12.4 years, female = 73.3%) with a musculoskeletal problem participated in the study. P-NRS score of the individuals was 5. Results showed that a 3-factor model did fit well under CFA (χ²/df = 2.76<3). The questionnaire had good reliability (ICC = 0.865) and internal consistency (α=0.810). There were no floor or ceiling effects (<%15). Total ÖMSQ-12-TR scores had a correlation with the TSK, SF-12 and P-NRS (r=0.303-0.609). The AUC for the risk of absenteeism from work was obtained as 0.738 (p<0.001). The risk of absenteeism was high in individuals with an ÖMSQ-12-TR score of >57.5. Conclusions: The ÖMSQ-12-TR is a valid and reliable questionnaire that can be used in determining the risk of absenteeism in musculoskeletal disorders and is convenient for online use. Objective: Health literacy is one's ability to access, comprehend, appraise, and apply health-related information. Health literacy has become an important topic since the COVID-19 pandemic. This methodological study aimed to adapt the Coronavirus-Related Health Literacy Scale (HLS-COVID-Q22) to Turkish. Methods: The sample consisted of 539 students of the faculty of health sciences of a university in Turkey. The study was conducted between December 2020 and May 2021. The content validity ratio was calculated for content validity. The construct and concurrent validity, internal consistency reliability, test-retest reliability, and ceiling and floor effects were also determined. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed for construct validity. Results: The fit indices indicated an adequate fit (χ²/df: 4.97<5, Comparative Fit Index: 0.996). The composite reliability (>0.70) and Cronbach's alpha values (>0.90) were above acceptable limits. Most students had "adequate health literacy" (71.8%). A quarter of the students had "problematic health literacy" (24.5%). The remaining students had "inadequate health literacy" (3.7%). Students with lower levels of health literacy were more likely to have confusion about coronavirus-related information (p<0.001). Conclusions: The results of the study show that the Health Literacy Scale Related to COVID-19 - Turkish Version (HLS-COVID-TR), consisting of 22 items, has sufficient reliability, internal and external construct validity. It has been determined that it is a valid and reliable scale for measuring health science students' COVID-19 related health literacy levels. The Revised Neurophysiology of Pain Questionnaire (Revised-NPQ-Tr) is used to evaluate the change in pain knowledge. No study has explored its validity and reliability for the Turkish language This study aims to determine the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Revised-NPQ-Tr in chronic spinal pain patients A total of 182 chronic spinal pain patients were included in the study. The Revised-NPQ-Tr results were analyzed using Rasch analysis to measure the psychometric properties The Revised-NPQ-Tr indicates misfit to the Rasch model, as evidenced by the borderline significant p value (LR test = 27.626; df = 11; p =.004; Bonferroni-adjusted α = 0.004). Two items were differentially affected by educational status. Removal of poor-functioning items did not improve the psychometric properties of the questionnaire. The Revised-NPQ-Tr is unidimensional and there was no local dependence between items. The questionnaire exhibits known group validity. Test–retest reliability of the questionnaire was moderate [intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) = 0.629]; however, the internal consistency of the questionnaire was found to be low (Cronbach's α = 0.330; person separation index = 0.373) Although the internal validity of the Revised-NPQ-Tr version was acceptable, its reliability was found to be low. Objective: The study was conducted as descriptive cross-sectional to determine the prevalence of preoperative anxiety and fatigue level among patients undergoing coronary artery bypass greft surgery. Material and Methods: The study was conducted with 116 patients who will be undergone coronary artery bypass graft between April 1 2019-April 1 2020. Data were collected with personal information form, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue (MAF) Scale. Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation tests were used in the analysis of the data. Results: In the study, it was determined that the preoperative anxiety level of the individuals was 44.94±1.36, 64.7% had moderate-to-high level of anxiety, and the MAF Scale total score was 35.12±6.99. It was found that the preoperative anxiety level was statistically significantly higher in individuals who were single, unemployed and who evaluated their sleep quality as poor, and the fatigue level was statistically significantly higher in individuals who were female, single, smoking-alcohol users, worker and who evaluated their sleep quality as poor. In the study, it was also determined that there was a positive and moderately significant relationship between preoperative anxiety, fatigue sub-dimensions and total fatigue level (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the majority of patients who will be undergone coronary artery bypass grafting experienced preoperative anxiety, and the level of fatigue increased as the level of preoperative anxiety increased. Therefore, cardiac surgery patients should be evaluated holistically in the preoperative period and evidence-based nursing interventions should be applied to reduce preoperative anxiety and fatigue levels. Although it has been emphasised for many years that there is a Type A personality that has negative effects on health, contrary to popular belief, this has been rejected in recent studies. The effect of Type A personality on health literacy and on surgical anxiety level is a matter of curiosity. This study aimed to determine the relationship between surgical anxiety level, Type A personality and health literacy. The method used was a descriptive cross-sectional study with 250 patients. The total score averages of the patients' Type A personality, surgical anxiety, and health literacy were determined as 74.50±22.51, 42.80±13.61, and 85.48±17.19, respectively. There was a positive moderately significant relationship between Type A personality and surgical anxiety, and a weakly significant positive relationship between Type A personality and health literacy. It was determined that there was a weak and negative correlation between health literacy and surgical anxiety. This study is possibly the first to reveal the relationship between surgical anxiety level, Type A personality and health literacy. Type A personality and health literacy were evaluated as two parameters that affect surgical anxiety level. Although the patients' personality is not critical for surgery, it can significantly affect their treatment adherence later on. In the preoperative period, determining the patients' personality characteristics and health literacy, and providing appropriate training and information under the leadership of health professionals, may be effective in reducing their surgical anxiety level. Objective: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three-dimensional spinal deformity, and pedicle morphology can change on the concave and convex sides of the curvature. This study aimed to evaluate the pedicle morphology of the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae in AIS via computed tomography (CT). Materials and Methods: Patients diagnosed with AIS between 2019 and 2021 were identified by scanning the Picture Archiving and Communication System. Patients with a scoliosis radiograph and a Cobb angle of 40° or more were included in the study. The pedicle length (PL), axial pedicle angle (APA), endosteal pedicle width (EPW), and cord length (CL) were measured from the T1 to L5 vertebrae from the CT sections of the patients. The Cobb angle, apical vertebral translation distance, and vertebral rotations were measured using standing AP and lateral radiographs. Results: The mean age of the 30 patients was 16.37±3.0 and 93.3% were females. The mean main-thoracic Cobb angle was 47.87°±7.99°. There was a significant, negatively weak relationship between the Cobb angle and T5 and T6 left PL (r=-0.485 and r=-0.371, respectively), a moderately negative relationship between T7 and L3 left PL (r=0.506 and r=-0.508, respectively). There was no significant correlation between the Cobb angle and endosteal pedicle values (p>0.05). While the correlation between the vertebral rotation and the right endosteal pedicle was moderate at T4, a significant but low correlation was found for T3, T5, T6, T7, and T9 (p<0.05). Conclusion: The EPW was shorter and the CL was longer on the concave side of the vertebrae in the apical region of the AIS deformity.
