Agronomic bio-fortification remains a crucial focus area for enhancing wheat productivity and quality while alleviating environmental pressures. Micronutrient deficiencies, particularly in iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn), persist among the Indian population, especially affecting women. These deficiencies can be effectively addressed through agronomic bio-fortification of wheat grains. To tackle this issue, a comprehensive multilocation (4) field experiment was conducted, incorporating four high-yielding wheat cultivars (HD-3226, HI-1544, DBW-187, and PBW-1-Zn) alongside six foliar fertilizer applications (Control, 2% S, 2% N, 0.5% ZnSO4.7H2O, 1% KCl, and combined treatments) during 2021-22 and 2022-23 utilizing a split-plot design with three replications. Analysis over the years revealed that significant impacts of location and cultivar on yield and its attributes, and Fe, Zn, and protein content of grains. Warmer locations like Hisar exhibited higher yields primarily due to significantly increased earheads/m2 and grains number/m2 compared to other locations. Moreover, Fe content in wheat grains was notably higher in Gurdaspur followed by Hisar, surpassing Ludhiana. Notably, cultivar DBW-187 outperformed others with a 14.75% higher grain yield than the least yielding cultivar, HI-1544. PBW-1-Zn exhibited the highest grain Fe and Zn content among the cultivars studied. The interaction between cultivar and location significantly influenced all yield parameters and grain Fe content. Foliar spray of ZnSO4 (0.5%) during stem elongation and milk stages resulted in significantly higher grain Zn content compared to applications of KCl (1.0%), N (2.0%), and S (2.0%) alone, with an increase of 9.9% over no spray. In conclusion, the selection of appropriate cultivars tailored to specific regions, coupled with strategic agronomic bio-fortification approaches, is imperative for enhancing wheat productivity and grain quality, thereby ensuring nutritional security. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of long-term Soil Test Crop Response (STCR) based nutrient management in regulating soil micronutrient status and optimizing crop productivity under a maize-wheat cropping system in an acid Alfisol. The experiment was initiated during monsoon 2007, consisted of eight treatments viz., control, farmers' practice, general recommended dose, soil test-based, STCR based targeted yield of 25 (wheat)/30 (maize) and 35 (wheat)/40 (maize) q ha−1 with FYM @ 5 t ha−1 and without FYM. Results revealed that the soil available Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn exhibited depletion in unfertilized plots over initial status. However, the STCR (Integrated Plant Nutrient Supply; IPNS) based targeted yield approach of fertilizer application maintains higher values of DTPA extractable micronutrients in comparisons to all other treatments. After nine continuous years, the highest DTPA- extractable Fe (27.6 mg kg−1), Mn (25.1 mg kg−1), Zn (1.25 mg kg−1) and Cu (0.75 mg kg−1) were recorded in treatment where, FYM was added along with fertilizers for targeted yield of 35 q ha−1. The micronutrient uptake by wheat was higher in STCR (IPNS) treatments. Low SRC values of Zn, Cu, Fe, and Mn indicated that long-term prescription based chemical fertilizers and FYM application can meet the plant nutritional requirement of wheat crop. Hence long-term STCR based integration of FYM (with NPK fertilizers) has an advantage in regulating the supply of micronutrients in soil-plant system and addressing the micronutrient deficiencies. Soluble fertilizers are among the main costs in strawberry production, so knowing the nutrients balance in plant tissue is essential. In this sense, the Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis (CND) method is presented as a multivariate analysis tool for the nutritional diagnosis of the crop. The main goal of this paper was to establish CND standards and critical nutrient levels in strawberries cultivated in a soilless system. This study uses the Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis (CND) method to analyze nutrient levels grown in a soilless system. Commercial production greenhouses were evaluated for yield and leaf nutrients contents to develop the standards. Data were collected from 52 plots, each consisting of diagnostic leaves from 10 plants, and subsequently analyzed to determine critical nutrient deficiencies and excesses. The CND methodology was sensitive in diagnosing the differences between high and low-yield populations. Thus, adjusting the critical nutrient levels for soilless strawberry cultivation was possible. Due to deficiency, the most limiting nutrients for strawberry production were N, Mg, and S, and Zn and Cu due to excess. Results indicate specific nutrient thresholds, with significant findings from the integration of all indices, it was possible to calculate the sufficiency ranges for soilless strawberry: N = 26–31, P = 4–7, K = 8–11, Ca = 10–15, Mg = 3–4, S = 0.3–0.5 in g kg−1, and B = 18–95, Cu = 1–2, Fe = 46–96, Mn = 80–203, Zn = 1–40, Mo = 1.3–2.7, Ni = 0.1–0.4 in mg kg−1. The availability of nutrients in the soil is a dynamic process that can fluctuate between states of deficiency and excess, causing significant stress on plants. In response to this stress, plants have evolved several physiological strategies to adapt and cope with these fluctuations. These strategies are aimed at improving the efficiency of nutrient uptake and utilization while minimizing the negative impact of nutrient stress. In this paper we explore the important roles and regulation of nutrient transporters in plant adaptation, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, iron, and sulfur transporters. The paper discusses the mechanisms through which plants utilize these transporters to adapt to nutrient deficiencies and optimize nutrient uptake and utilization. The paper presents a comprehensive review of current understanding in these areas, highlighting their importance for plant growth and development, as well as their potential applications in agriculture. Additionally, the paper identifies research gaps and suggests future directions for research. In this review, we contribute to understanding the complex mechanisms that underpin plant adaptation and nutrition, and provides valuable insights for improving crop production and management. Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) is a risk factor for developing visceral leishmaniasis (VL). While nutrient deficiency can impair immunity, its mechanistic impact on protective adaptive immune responses following Leishmania infection remains unknown. To determine the potential negative impacts of malnutrition on anti-parasitic responses in chronic VL, we provided mice with a polynutrient-deficient diet (deficient protein, energy, zinc, and iron) that mimics moderate human malnutrition. The polynutrient-deficient diet resulted in growth stunting and reduced mass of visceral organs and following infection with Leishmania infantum, malnourished-mice harbored more parasites in the spleen and liver. Malnourished and infected mice also had fewer T lymphocytes, with reduced T cell production of IFN-γ required for parasite clearance and enhanced production of the immunosuppressive cytokine, IL-10. To determine if IL-10 was causative in disease progression in the malnourished mice, we treated infected mice with monoclonal antibody α-IL-10R. α-IL-10R treatment reduced the parasite number in malnourished mice, restored the number of T cells producing IFN-γ, and enhanced hepatic granuloma formation. Our results indicate that malnutrition increases VL susceptibility due to defective IFN-γ-mediated immunity attributable to increased IL-10 production. Author summary: Malnutrition contributes to the development of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) following Leishmania infection. Despite the clear association, the impact of malnutrition on the adaptive immune mechanisms required for parasite control is still unclear. We found that malnutrition disrupts the ability to control parasite replication in the spleen and liver due to defective IFN-γ-mediated immunity, reduced hepatic granuloma formation, and enhanced IL-10 production. Blocking IL-10R signaling restored the protective mechanisms to control parasite replication in the malnourished mice without interfering with the undernutrition state. Thus, we demonstrate that increased IL-10 production driven by malnutrition disrupts protective immunity against Leishmania, thereby enhancing the susceptibility of VL. Background Methods Results Conclusions Plant‐based diets (PBDs) have gained popularity in recent years due to their co‐benefits for human and planetary health. Although clinical guidelines now recommend well‐balanced PBDs, it remains unclear how dietitians in the United Kingdom (UK) and Republic of Ireland (ROI) view such diets and their implementation in practice. This study aimed to evaluate the perspectives of registered dietitians (RDs) on the role of a whole food plant‐based diet (WFPBD) in clinical practice.A cross‐sectional online survey was conducted amongst RDs in the UK and ROI between September and November 2023.A total of 335 RDs participated in the survey. Most RDs (76%) agree that a well‐planned WFPBD is suitable for all stages of life, with some (48%) expressing concerns over the risk of malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. Three‐quarters of RDs (75%) incorrectly thought that plant protein is incomplete, necessitating protein combining. A WFPBD was on average ranked fourth out of 14 dietary strategies for managing some of the leading non‐communicable diseases. Excluding dairy and eggs was the primary reason preventing RDs from personally adopting a WFPBD, whereas meal preparation and cost were the main barriers for their clients. The majority of RDs (79%) feel they did not receive sufficient education on WFPBDs, with 58% agreeing there are insufficient evidence‐based resources available in their field. Only 33% feel supported when advocating for a WFPBD in their workplace.Although many RDs view WFPBDs as viable and clinically relevant, significant barriers to their implementation exist, underscoring the need for enhanced education and support. ABSTRACT Mineral nutrient deficiencies and metal ion toxicities coexist on acid soils. Phosphorus (P) deficiency in plants is generally accompanied with significant levels of leaf manganese (Mn) accumulation. However, the molecular regulatory mechanisms underpinning remain unclear. The present study found that P‐deficient soybean plants accumulated more Mn compared to P‐sufficient ones on acid soils in both field and greenhouse experiments. Meanwhile, both P deficiency and Mn toxicity enhanced the expression of GmSTOP1‐3. Over‐expressing GmSTOP1‐3 enhanced Mn accumulation in transgenic soybean hairy roots, but RNA‐interference did not show obvious differences. Moreover, transgenic soybeans with GmSTOP1‐3‐overexpression showed enhanced root citrate exudation and augmented Mn accumulation. RNA‐sequence identified four downstream genes of GmSTOP1‐3, including multidrug and toxic compound extrusion (GmMATE2/13) and metal transporter genes (GmZIP6/GmIREG3), which encode plasma membrane proteins. GmSTOP1‐3 activated the transcription of these four genes by directly binding to their promoter regions. In addition, both GmZIP6 and GmIREG3 functioned in Mn uptake as manifested by the higher Mn concentration and decreased growth of soybean hairy roots with their overexpression. Taken together, it is suggested that upregulation of GmSTOP1‐3 by low P stress on acid soils activates transcripts of GmMATE2/13 and GmZIP6/GmIREG3, which consequently result in enhanced Mn accumulation in soybean. Rice provides poor yields in acidic soils due to several nutrient deficiencies and metal toxicities. The low availability of phosphorus (P) in acidic soils offers a natural condition for screening genotypes for grain yield and phosphorus utilization efficiency (PUE). The objective of this study was to phenotype a subset of indica rice accessions from 3000 Rice Genome Project (3K-RGP) under acidic soils and find associated genes and alleles. A panel of 234 genotypes, along with checks, were grown under low-input acidic soils for two consecutive seasons, followed by a low-P-based hydroponic screening experiment. The heritability of the agro-morphological traits was high across seasons, and Ward's clustering method identified 46 genotypes that can be used as low-P-tolerant donors in acidic soil conditions. Genotypes ARC10145, RPA5929, and K1559-4, with a higher grain yield than checks, were identified. Over 29 million SNPs were retrieved from the Rice SNP-Seek database, and after quality control, they were utilized for a genome-wide association study (GWAS) with seventeen traits. Ten quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs) for three yield traits and five QTNs for PUE were identified. A set of 34 candidate genes for yield-related traits was also identified. An association study using this indica panel for an already reported 1.84 Mbp region on chromosome 2 identified genes Os02g09840 and Os02g08420 for yield and PUE, respectively. A haplotype analysis for the candidate genes identified favorable allelic combinations. Micronutrient deficiency is wide spread and highly affects morbidity, mortality, and well-being of human beings. Micronutrient deficiency gradually manifests into diseases, which effects pathophysiology directly or indirectly. There is an imprecision in the diagnosis of micronutrient deficiency because of two causes; the selection of the standard biomarker and the diagnostic technique used. In appropriate diagnosis could increase the severity of the disorder. Instead of a single a combination of biomarkers can give more stringent results for micronutrient testing. Several traditional analytical techniques are used for diagnosis but HPLC, ELISA & LCMS/MS are most sensitive and reliable methods used by CLSIA-certified labs. However, these techniques require well-equipped, centralized laboratory facilities. The diagnostic era moves toward the Point of Care Testing (POCT), a boon in emerging diagnostics, breaking all paradigms of traditional analytical techniques. POCT led us toward the development of biosensors, which encompasses many techniques like paper-based sensors, microfluidic chip, wearable devices, and smartphone-assisted diagnostics, which become more popular diagnostic tools. Purpose: We explored the elicitation role of the laser irradiations on the alleviation of nutrient-deficiency induced damage in anthocyanin-producing red-fleshed apple cell suspension in continuous production of anthocyanin. Methods: Anthocyanin-producing red-fleshed apple cells were irradiated by 4 intensity levels of red He-Ne (RHNL) and blue diode (BDL) lasers for 20 min. Results: Nutrient deficiency indicated negative effect on total soluble proteins (TSP), superoxidase dismutase (SOD) activity, and total phenolics content (TPC) while it displayed a positive effect on malondialdehyde (MDA), total flavonoids content (TFC), O2-, H2O2-, and lipoxygenase (LOX) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities in light controls, illustrating oxidative stress. The laser irradiations on suspension cells indicated variable effects on measured parameters and were time of growth-, levels of intensity-, and laser type-dependent. Likewise, the elicitation effects of lasers relied on a critical threshold among ROS generation and antioxidative system which determines the fate of cells against oxidative stress. The same trend was displayed by RHNL at 6.46 mWcm−2 intensity and BDL at 13.73 mWcm−2. These intensities resulted in a significant increase in SOD, APX, POD, and CAT activities and TSP, TPC, TFC, proline, and glycine betaine accumulation, while induced decrease in LOX, and PPO activities and MDA, and ROS generation, alleviating cellular injury from prolonged nutrient deficiency by diminishing lipid peroxidation and oxidative damages of cell membrane. Conclusion: Results suggested that lasers application on mitigating nutrient deficiency stress relied on establishing a suitable balance between ROS generation and antioxidative system, which enables the nutrient-starved anthocyanin-producing cells to continuously produce anthocyanin. Due to insufficient dietary intake and altered digestion and absorption of nutrients, patients after gastroesophageal cancer surgery are at risk of becoming malnourished and consequently develop micronutrient deficiencies. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies and anemia during follow-up after gastroesophageal cancer surgery. This single-center cross-sectional study included patients after resection for esophageal or gastric cancer visiting the outpatient clinic in 2016 and 2017. Only patients without signs of recurrent disease were included. All patients were guided by a dietician in the pre- and postoperative phase. Dietary supplements or enteral tube feeding was prescribed in case of inadequate dietary intake. Blood samples were examined for possible deficiencies or abnormalities in hemoglobin, prothrombin time, iron, ferritin, folic acid, calcium, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin D and vitamin E. The percentage of patients with micronutrient deficiencies were scored. Of the 335 patients visiting the outpatient clinic, measurements were performed in 263 patients (221 after esophagectomy and 42 after gastrectomy), resulting in an inclusion rate of 79%. In the esophagectomy group, deficiencies in iron (36%), vitamin D (33%) and zinc (20%) were most prevalent. After gastric resection, deficiencies were most frequently observed in vitamin D (52%), iron (33%), zinc (28%) and ferritin (17%). Low levels of hemoglobin were found in 21% of patients after esophagectomy and 24% after gastrectomy. Despite active nutritional guidance, deficiencies in vitamin D, iron, zinc and ferritin, as well as low levels of hemoglobin, are frequently observed following gastroesophageal resection for cancer. Eucheumatoid seaweeds, encompassing the genera Kappaphycus and Eucheuma, are widely cultivated globally, particularly in tropical regions. However, ice-ice disease (IID) poses a significant challenge to their production, causing substantial economic losses. This study aimed to elucidate the factors contributing to IID in eucheumatoid seaweeds, focusing on the perspectives of seaweed farmers in Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi, Philippines. A mixed methods approach was employed, utilizing both one-to-one interviews (n = 96) and focus group discussions. The majority of the interviewed farmers were male, aged between 31 and 60 years, with extensive experience (11‒25 years) in seaweed cultivation. Notably, all participants possessed a familiarity with IID since childhood. Farmers described IID as a pathological condition affecting eucheumatoid seaweeds, characterized by the emergence of white and soft areas on the seaweed thalli. The initial stages of the disease manifest as a pale discolouration of the thalli and the presence of epiphytes or debris. Several environmental factors were identified by the farmers as contributing to IID incidence, including high or low water temperatures, low salinity (particularly after heavy rainfall), stagnant water currents, nutrient deficiencies, inadequate seedling quality, and poor farm management practices. Additionally, deepwater (nearshore) farms were reported to be more susceptible to IID. Farmers noted that easterly winds could exacerbate the disease by facilitating the infestation of epiphytes on the seaweed. Furthermore, the prevalence of IID was observed to be highest during the dry and hot season. Kappaphycus striatus was identified by the farmers as being more susceptible to IID compared with K. alvarezii and Eucheuma denticulatum. The negative impact of IID on farmers' livelihoods was also highlighted. Some mitigation strategies employed by the farmers included the application of inorganic nutrient enrichments (e.g. ammonium phosphate (16–20-0, N-P-K) and complete (14–14-14, N-P-K) fertilizers), frequent relocation of infected seaweed to different farms, and the cultivation of more IID-resistant species. Highlights: Farmers defined ice-ice disease as an anomaly in eucheumatoid seaweeds that showed white and soft thalli. Ice-ice disease is linked to unfavourable water parameters, nutrient deficiencies and poor seedling quality and management. Background Assessment for vitamin C deficiency (VCD) is rarely undertaken in an acute hospital setting in high-income countries. However, with growing interest in VCD in community settings, there is emerging evidence investigating the prevalence and impact of VCD during hospitalization. Objectives In this scoping review, the prevalence of VCD in adult hospitalized patients is explored, patient characteristics are described, and risk factors and clinical outcomes associated with VCD are identified. Methods A systematic scoping review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR framework. The Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, Scopus, CINAHL Plus, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, and the Cochrane Library databases were searched for interventional, comparative, and case-series studies that met eligibility criteria, including adult hospital inpatients in high-income countries, as defined by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, that reported VCD prevalence using World Health Organization reference standards. These standards define VCD deficiency as plasma or serum vitamin C level <11.4 µmol/L, wholeblood level <17 µmol/L, or leukocytes <57 nmol/108 cells. Results Twenty-three articles were included, representing 22 studies. The cumulative prevalence of VCD was 27.7% (n = 2494; 95% confidence interval [CI], 21.3-34.0). High prevalence of VCD was observed in patients with severe acute illness and poor nutritional status. Scurvy was present in 48% to 62% of patients with VCD assessed in 2 studies (n = 71). Being retired (P  = 0.015) and using excessive amounts of alcohol and tobacco (P  = 0.0003) were independent risk factors for VCD (n = 184). Age was not conclusively associated with VCD (n = 631). Two studies examined nutrition associations (n = 309); results were inconsistent. Clinical outcomes for VCD included increased risk of frailty (adjusted odds ratio, 4.3; 95%CI, 1.33–13.86; P  = 0.015) and cognitive impairment (adjusted odds ratio, 2.93; 95%CI, 1.05–8.19, P  = 0.031) (n = 160). Conclusions VCD is a nutritional challenge facing the healthcare systems of high-income countries. Research focused on early identification and treatment of patients with VCD is warranted. The sustainable developmental goals emphasize good health, reduction in preventable neonatal and under-five mortalities, and attaining zero hunger. However, South Asian countries report a higher incidence of neonatal and under-five mortalities when compared to the Western world, many of which are attributed to maternal and perinatal micronutrient deficiencies. Isolated nutrient deficiency in the absence of calorie deficit poses a diagnostic challenge since such deficiencies present with acute multisystemic and enigmatic manifestations. Thiamine (vitamin B1) is a micronutrient of prime importance which exerts indispensable roles in energy metabolism. Deficiency of thiamine can lead to catastrophic consequences. This review provides insight into the biochemical actions of thiamine in energy metabolism, the compromised aerobic metabolism resulting from thiamine deficiency, and the crucial role of thiamine in the proper functioning of the nervous, cardiovascular, and immune systems. The review also explores the acute life-threatening consequences of thiamine deficiencies in neonates and infants and the speculative role of thiamine in other pathologies like encephalopathy, sepsis, and autism spectrum disorders. However, routine assessment of thiamine in pregnant women and neonates is yet to be implemented, due to the lack of affordable and automated diagnostic techniques, and the cost-intensive nature of mass spectrometry-based quantification. Conclusion: Physicians are recommended to have a low threshold for suspecting thiamine deficiency especially in vulnerable populations. Laboratory diagnosis of thiamine deficiency needs to be implemented as a standard of care, especially in endemic regions. Further, public health policies on food fortification, mandatory supplementation, and surveillance are imperative to eliminate thiamine deficiency-induced health hazards. Insufficient stand establishment and low seedling development of Persian Clover (Trifolium resupinatum L.) are major problems. A study involving laboratory and greenhouse conditions was conducted to determine seed priming effects on germination rate and growth index. To determine the best time for seed priming, pre-experiments were performed for 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 h. Afterward, germination parameters were measured in the laboratory by 16 different nutrient priming (B, Fe, Mg, Ca, and a combination of these) and two priming duration (one and two hours selected from pre-experiment). The greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the ability of nutrition priming with B + Fe + Mg + Ca to compensate for the deficiency of these soil nutrients where growth index (CGR and LAI) and SPAD index were measured in four treatments (control, nutrition priming, Nitrogen as starter fertilizers and nutrition priming + Nitrogen as a starter). Laboratory data for pre-experiment showed that one and two hours of hydro priming was suitable for clover seed. One hour of hydro priming led to a significant increase in germination rate (20%), length (26%) and weight (10%) vigor. Control, Priming with B + Ca, B + Mg and B + Mg + Ca led to highest germination percentage (≈96%), also B + Ca caused the highest length and weight vigor (61 and 2.22). The greenhouse experiment data illustrated that nutrition priming increased by about 10% in TDW, 23% in LAI, and 4% in SPAD index in the first 40 days of early growth stages, but increased by 27% in CGR, 47% in LAI, and 10% in SPAD index if combined with the application of nitrogen as a starter fertilizer. Measures of manganese (Mn) status in cattle vary among studies, and no single criterion accurately predicts or diagnoses Mn deficiency and pathologic outcomes. Mn deficiency causes congenital joint laxity and dwarfism (CJLD) when total dietary intake is <20 ppm Mn dry matter (DM) for most of the pregnancy. However, the recommended dietary intake of 40 ppm DM can also result in clinical Mn deficiency. Some studies have found that CJLD occurs in calves from cows fed red clover or silage but not in calves from cows fed hay. The concentration of Mn in the liver is the best indicator of Mn status in neonates and adults but cannot be interpreted in fetuses. Serum, plasma, and whole blood concentrations of Mn are unreliable indicators of bovine Mn status. The primary objective of our report is to present evidence linking CJLD to a primary or secondary Mn deficiency. To predict and diagnose Mn deficiency in cattle, we propose using a combination of clinical signs, dietary Mn, liver Mn at birth and beyond, positive response to Mn supplementation or the replacement of silage with other forages, and ruling out other causes of malformations. By following these recommendations, we expect that CJLD and gestational death will decrease as hepatic Mn concentrations increase at birth. Purpose: Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is often considered to be associated with macro- and micronutrient deficiency. A possible treatment option can be the implementation of pancreatic enzyme replacement (PERT) and may lead to better outcomes. We designed a prospective trial investigating the possible impact of PERT in patients undergoing MBS at a high-volume center. Materials and Methods: A prospective two-arm randomized controlled trial was conducted on patients who underwent either sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass procedures at a high-volume center. Patients underwent bariatric surgery and follow-up examinations at 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. Patients were stratified either to the treatment group with PERT or to the control group. The primary endpoint of the study was a change in BMI. Lab testing was carried out to measure secondary endpoints, including albumin and vitamin D levels. Results: Overall, 204 patients were enrolled. Due to missing follow-ups, surgical complications, and side effects due to Kreon medication, 65 were excluded. Analysis of primary endpoints indicates that PERT does not lead to slower weight loss or BMI reduction. Analysis of secondary endpoints showed significantly better vitamin D levels in patients undergoing MBS and PERT. No statistical difference was seen regarding albumin. In both arms, fatty liver disease improved. Quality of life is positively judged as comparable by patients in both groups. Conclusion: Herein, we show an association between PERT and higher vitamin D levels in patients undergoing MBS. An optimized enzymatic environment due to PERT may therefore result in higher vitamin D levels and may improve clinical outcomes in patients undergoing MBS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The optimal bowel limb lengths for laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) to maximize weight loss while minimizing nutritional deficiencies in severe obesity treatment remain a topic of debate. The multi-center Dutch Common Channel Trial (DUCATI) aims to compare the outcomes of a very long Roux Limb Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (VLRL-LRYGB) with a standard Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (S-LRYGB). Methods: A total of 444 patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1, double-blind manner to undergo either VLRL-RYGB or S-LRYGB. Five-year follow-up data were assessed, concentrating on weight loss, obesity-related medical conditions, complications, re-operations, and malnutrition. Results: Both groups had comparable total alimentary lengths (RL + CC). The VLRL-LRYGB group demonstrated significantly greater %TWL (32.2% vs. 28.6%, p = 0.002) and %EWL (81.2% vs. 70.3%, p = 0.002) at 5 years. Eight (3.6%) patients in the VLRL-LRYGB group versus 2 (0.9%) in the S-LRYGB group (p = 0.055) needed modification surgery for malabsorption. Suboptimal clinical response rate was significantly higher (22.0% vs. 8.3%) in S-LRYGB group. No significant differences for nutrient deficiencies in favor of the S-LRYGB group were found. Conclusion: A 100-cm common channel with a relatively long Roux limb provides superior, sustainable weight loss over 5 years, without significantly increased rate of malabsorption-related re-operations. These results suggest that a longer Roux limb can still ensure adequate micronutrient uptake in the total alimentary tract. Abstract\nHIGHLIGHTSMicronutrient deficiency is a critical obstacle to producing healthy groundnut crops, achieving sustainable yield and quality. Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.), popularly known as ‘peanut,’ is a vital edible oilseed crop across the world. However, achieving optimal groundnut yield and quality is challenging due to various factors, including micronutrient deficiencies arising due to imbalanced nutrient management in intensive agriculture. This led to global nutritional insecurity. Currently micronutrient deficiency in groundnut is addressed by soil application of individual elements, which has efficiency of less than 3%. A Combined foliar micronutrient mixture would be a practical, easy to apply solution for swiftly correcting multiple micronutrient deficiencies during critical crop growth stages. This approach allows for targeted nutrient delivery directly to the foliage for quicker absorption, bypassing soil limitations. Field experiments were conducted in summer irrigated groundnut during 2019 and 2020 in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, India to evaluate the performance of four different grades of newly developed foliar micronutrients on groundnut yield and quality. The MN grades ranging from I to IV were assigned to increasing concentration of Zn, Fe, Mn, Cu and B levels. Experiment laid in split plot design, replicated thrice with four micronutrients grades as the main plot and four different foliar spray timings as sup plots. Concentration of micronutrients and spray timings significantly influenced the groundnut pod and stover yields. Among the four micronutrient grades tested, the Grade IV mixture with highest concentration of all constituent ((Zn, Fe, Mn, Cu and B) micronutrients that sprayed twice at the vegetative and flowering stages recorded significantly highest stover (4120 kgha−1) and pod yield (2806 kgha−1). This optimal combination resulted an increment of 12–13% pod yield, 37–43% in kernel yield, 17–18% in oil content and 39–33% soluble protein content of groundnut over the control with no supply of micronutrient. Future research may explore integrating soil application and foliar spray of micronutrients for enhanced sustainability. Foliar micronutrient formulation can address multiple micronutrient deficiencies in groundnut crops during their active growth stages, overcoming all soil limitations and ensuring sustainable yield and high quality groundnut for nutritional security.Performance of four newly developed foliar micronutrient mixtures for groundnut were field studied during 2019 and 2020 with different spray timings.
