Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a densidade basica da madeira de clones de hibridos de Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis em diferentes espacamentos e ao longo da arvore. O experimento foi implantado em area da Usina Cerradinho Bioenergia, em Serranopolis, GO. O delineamento utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial, com cinco espacamentos (3,0 x 1,0 x 0,8 m; 3,0 x 1,0 x 1,0 m; 3,0 x 1,0 m; 3,0 x 1,5 m e 3,0 x 2,0 m) e tres clones (A01, A02 e GG100), com tres repeticoes. Aos 35 meses de idade foi abatida uma arvore por parcela, das quais foram retirados discos de 5,0 cm de espessura nas posicoes de DAP, 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% e 100% da altura comercial. A densidade basica da madeira foi determinada seguindo a norma NBR 11941. A densidade basica da madeira variou com o espacamento de plantio e com o clone. O uso de maiores espacamentos proporcionou maiores valores de densidade basica. Para os clones e os espacamentos estudados houve variacao da densidade basica da madeira nas posicoes amostradas. O comportamento observado foi de decrescimo na densidade da base ate os 54% da altura comercial, seguido por aumento ate os 100% da altura.

O cedro-rosa, pertencente a familia Meliaceae , e uma especie tipicamente brasileira, considerada madeira de lei e muito utilizada na recuperacao de areas degradas, na construcao civil, naval e paisagistica. O uso de bioestimulantes pode otimizar os processos fisiologicos de germinacao e crescimento das sementes, sendo capaz de incrementar o desenvolvimento vegetal, estimular a divisao celular, e aumentar a absorcao de agua e nutrientes. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a germinacao de sementes de cedro-rosa e a formacao de suas plântulas em funcao de diferentes doses de bioestimulante vegetal. Os tratamentos consistiram de cinco doses nas concentracoes de 0,0; 5,0; 10,0; 15,0 e 20,0 mL L -1 de bioestimulante, aplicados como tratamento pre-germinativo com as sementes embebidas durante duas e quatro horas e, posteriormente, submetidas ao teste de germinacao, avaliadas diariamente durante 28 dias. Apos o periodo foram avaliados comprimento de raiz e comprimento de parte aerea, massa seca de raiz, e massa seca de parte aerea. O tempo de embebicao de 2 horas e o mais indicado para o uso em sementes de cedro-rosa. O uso de bioestimulante prejudica a germinacao e o indice de velocidade de germinacao de sementes, mas favorece o comprimento e a massa seca de raiz e parte aerea, sendo a dose de 20 mL L -1 a mais indicada.

This study aimed to assess the effect of mechanical pretreatment on bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp fibers and investigate the influence of reaction time and temperature on the properties and yield of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). Two types of pulps were hydrolyzed, pulp 1 (control, whole fibers) and pulp 2 (mechanically pretreated, disintegrated fibers). NCC and MCC particles were obtained by sulfuric acid hydrolysis (60% w/w) of eucalyptus pulps under different conditions of time (30–120 min) and temperature (45–55 °C). Physical treatment of kraft pulp facilitated acid hydrolysis, resulting in higher NCC yields compared with no pretreatment. The morphologic properties and crystallinity index (CI) of NCC and MCC were little affected by pulp pretreatment. NCC particles obtained from pulps 1 and 2 were needle-shaped, with mean diameters of 6 and 4 nm, mean lengths of 154 and 130 nm, and CI of 74.6 and 76.8%, respectively. MCC particles obtained from pulps 1 and 2 were rod-shaped, with mean diameters of 2.4 and 1.4 µm, mean lengths of 37 and 22 µm, and CI of 73.1 and 74.5%, respectively. Pulps 1 and 2 and their respective NCC and MCC derivatives had a cellulose I crystalline structure.

Thermal treatments have the effect of reducing the hygroscopicity and improving the resistance to microbiological attack of wood by the degradation of its chemical constituents. During the treatments, the mass of the wood is reduced, a factor that can affect the quality of the materials according to their use. The objective was to verify the effect of the thermal treatment variables on the thermogravimetric properties and the chemical composition of Eucalyptus grandis. The treatments were carried out in a vacuum oven with three atmosphere conditions - vacuum; N2; vacuum+N2 at temperatures of 140, 180 and 220 °C for 6 hours. It was observed that the mass loss during treatments differed only according to the temperatures used. The extractive content, total lignin and holocellulose presented significant changes only at 220°C in all three atmospheres. In the thermogravimetric analysis, the greatest value of residual mass was found in the treatment that used nitrogen and 220 °C, thus demonstrating that this treatment was more invasive, leading to the conclusion that the vacuum application can help to reduce the degradation of the constituents of the eucalypt wood. Wood, which can lead to the production of thermally treated wood without great losses in the mechanical properties.

The objective of this project was to obtain the temperature profile formed in the wood during the slow pyrolysis process. For this, small holes were opened into the wood using a drill, three thermocouples were inserted in the radial portion along the length of the wood and on the surface - center direction. Three Eucalyptus wood logs, 35 cm long, 30% moisture and 8, 9 and 12 cm diameters, were used. The final pyrolysis temperature was 400 °C. The gravimetric yield of the products was calculated after the pyrolysis process. The formation of thermal gradients was observed in the wood throughout the process. The temperature difference between the surface and the center can reach up 200 °C, in the pyrolysis of the largest diameter wood. Thermal heights formed in the wood at 100 °C were detected, being more evident in the central portion. The thermal variation perceived in the wood can be explained by the presence of water, which demands energy for its evaporation and changes the temperature gradients, and the heat conductivity is poor due to the wood being a porous material, mainly in the carbonized zone.These phenomena influence the heat transfer during the pyrolysis process. On the surface - to - center direction, the formation of temperature gradients generates transient thermal threshold due to the drying process. Thus, a temperature gradient was formed between the surface and the center of the wood during the pyrolysis and the total time of the process will be higher in the largest diameter wood.

A wide range of materials for the development of new products can be obtained from natural resources. Good examples of these materials are lignocellulosic wastes, which are a good alternative for the production of particleboards. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using cotton wastes in association to eucalyptus particles in the production of particleboards. Cotton waste proportions used were 0, 10, 20 and 30%. Urea formaldehyde (UF) adhesive was applied at 12%, based on dry the weight of particles. Physical and mechanical tests were performed in order to evaluate panels. Water Absorption (2 and 24 h) and Internal Bond (IB) showed not significant effect with increased percentage of cotton waste. Thickness Swelling (2 and 24 h) of particleboards increased with increased percentage of waste material. The Modulus of Elasticity for cotton waste particleboards ranged from 726.47 ± 99.98 to 205.12 ± 66.24 MPa, while the Modulus of Rupture ranged from 8.63 ± 1.39 to 3.87 ± 0.75 MPa. According to results, cotton wastes could be added to particleboards up to the percentage of 9%, being indicated for the manufacture of some types of furniture such as doors and sides.

Inclined trees produce reaction wood, whose properties are distinct from normal wood. This situation can affect the production of charcoal. This study was conducted to evaluate the quality of charcoal derived from reaction wood in trees of a commercial plantation inclined due to the action of wind. We used six year old wood from a Eucalyptus grandis xEucalyptus urophylla hybrid from plantations located in Minas Gerais. The physical and chemical properties of the wood were determined as well as the gravimetric yield and charcoal properties. According to the results, there were significant differences between the properties of the reaction and normal wood, with the reaction wood having lower levels of lignin and extractives, greater holocellulose content and low specific gravity. However, these characteristics of reaction wood did not significantly affect the properties of its charcoal. RESUMO Árvores inclinadas produzem madeira de reação, cujas propriedades são distintas da madeira normal e, podem afetar na produção de carvão vegetal. Este trabalho foi realizado com objetivo de avaliar a qualidade do carvão vegetal procedente da madeira de reação em árvores de plantio comercial inclinadas por ação de ventos. Utilizou-se madeira de um híbrido de Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla aos seis anos de idade proveniente de plantios localizados em Minas Gerais. Determinaram-se as propriedades físicas e químicas da madeira, e também o rendimento gravimétrico e as propriedades do carvão vegetal. De acordo com os resultados, houve diferenças significativas entre as propriedades da madeira de reação e normal, tendo a madeira de reação menores teores de lignina e extrativos, maior teor de holocelulose e menor densidade básica. No entanto, essas diferenças na madeira de reação não afetaram significativamente as propriedades do carvão vegetal.

O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar as propriedades de paineis aglomerados de eucalipto em associacao com cavacos com casca. Foram utilizadas cinco proporcoes (0, 6, 12, 18 e 24%) de particulas de cavaco com casca em associacao com particulas de eucalipto, com adesivo a base de ureia-formaldeido, sendo 6% no miolo e 10% para a superficie. A densidade nominal foi de 650 kg/m 3 , pressao especifica de 32 kgf/cm 2 , a 180°C, por oito minutos. As propriedades foram determinadas de acordo com a Norma NBR 14810 (2002). Segundo os resultados, nao houve efeito da inclusao de cavaco com casca nas propriedades mecânicas e, quanto as propriedades fisicas, verificou-se que a absorcao superficial nao foi alterada ate 12%. De modo geral, os paineis absorveram mais agua que o estabelecido na referida norma. A adicao de ate 6% de cavaco com casca na composicao do painel nao ocasiona comprometimento da qualidade dos mesmos.

As praças são espaços públicos urbanos, oferecendo recreação e bem estar num ambiente agradável. Muitas destas praças foram implantadas há muitos anos. Algumas passaram por reformas, no entanto, é importante que se faça uma análise periódica a fim de adequá-las às necessidades dos usuários. Desta forma, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar, qualitativa e quantitativamente, as estruturas e equipamentos, a vegetação e as funções das três principais praças de Chapadão do Sul - MS: Praça da Avenida Goiás, Praça Vinte e Três de Outubro e Praça de Eventos. Para isso foi realizada uma pesquisa de opinião nas três praças, em dias de semana e horários diferentes, por meio de 90 questionários com perguntas diretas aos entrevistados. Também, foi realizado um levantamento e análise das estruturas e equipamentos, além da vegetação das praças. Concluiu-se que cada uma das três praças possui características específicas de paisagismo e uso. Em conjunto, as mesmas são frequentadas por 83,3% dos entrevistados. Foram encontradas 39 espécies diferentes, entre árvores, arbustos, herbáceas e palmeiras.
