We detected arenavirus RNA in 1.6% of 1,047 bats in Brazil that were sampled during 2007–2011. We identified Tacaribe virus in 2 Artibeus sp. bats and a new arenavirus species in Carollia perspicillata bats that we named Tietê mammarenavirus. Our results suggest that bats are an underrecognized arenavirus reservoir.

This paper introduces the implementation of a new device for measuring deformations at the surface layers of bituminous pavement. Using wireless technology, rechargeable remotely, low cost, and easily positioned in a layer by coring after pavement construction, this sensor makes it possible to obtain measurements of the deformation when a vehicle passes by. The development of the wireless sensor is presented as well as its advantages and limitations. It was then tested in the laboratory under a hydraulic press and in situ using a full-scale test of the mobile load simulator (MLS10 type). This system allows simple measurement, gives reliable results, and could be a useful device for the structural monitoring of pavement structures.

Screening of 533 bats for influenza A viruses showed subtype HL18NL11 in intestines of 2 great fruit-eating bats (Artibeus lituratus). High concentrations suggested fecal shedding. Genomic characterizations revealed conservation of viral genes across different host species, countries, and sampling years, suggesting a conserved cellular receptor and wide-ranging occurrence of bat influenza A viruses.

Background: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, mainly at an early stage, allowing treatment with curative intent. Aromatase inhibitors are widely used in the adjuvant treatment of oestrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, mainly in postmenopausal women. The most frequent adverse events associated with these therapies are musculoskeletal symptoms and an increased risk of bone fractures. Cutaneous adverse events have been rarely described. Sweet’s syndrome can present as an idiopathic disorder in addition to being malignancy-associated or drug-induced. Case presentation: We report the case of a 69-year old woman, diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, who underwent breast-conserving surgery, followed by adjuvant radio and endocrine treatment with letrozole 2.5 mg daily, for a foreseeable duration of 5 years. Three months after starting letrozole, she presented with sudden fever and exuberant and painful erythematous skin papules and plaques on her upper body. After a full work-up and exclusion of other potential causes, a skin biopsy confirmed the presence of dermal oedema and a diffuse neutrophilic infiltrate, suggesting Sweet’s syndrome. After discontinuation of letrozole and treatment with corticosteroids, the patient fully recovered. She resumed adjuvant treatment with tamoxifen, without symptom recurrence. Conclusions: Sweet’s syndrome is a rare condition and an association with aromatase inhibitors has not been previously reported. Although its occurrence has already been observed in the onset of malignancies such as breast cancer, aromatase inhibitors must be added to the list of potential causes of drug-induced Sweet’s syndrome.

Em muitos casos, porém, a sistematização não ocorre, inviabilizando o alinhamento da RSE à estratégia corporativa. Diante disso, este estudo visa investigar o processo de institucionalização da RSE, na Companhia de Água e Esgoto do Ceará, à luz do modelo de Tolbert e Zucker (1999). Nesta concepção, a institucionalização ocorre mediante as fases de habitualização, objetivação e sedimentação. Trata-se de uma pesquisa quantitativa, exploratória e descritiva, realizada mediante um survey. O questionário foi estruturado a partir dos temas valores, transparência e governança; público interno; e meio ambiente, dos indicadores Ethos. O tratamento dos dados foi realizado com o SPSS e o Excel. Quanto aos resultados, em relação à habitualização, a empresa investe em novas tecnologias para melhorar seus serviços e segue as determinações da agência reguladora. No tocante à objetivação, a empresa realiza estudos sobre RSE e busca alinhar as práticas a seus objetivos. Há consenso quanto à adoção de uma postura transparente e ética e acerca do valor de uma estrutura própria para a RSE. Quanto à sedimentação, a disseminação da RSE traz legitimidade às ações, havendo um alto índice de concordância quanto ao comprometimento da empresa com o desenvolvimento da sociedade. Os resultados evidenciam que, embora haja progressos moderados, a institucionalização ainda está em andamento.

The present note reports the first record of Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart) in Southeastern Brazil, in the municipality of Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro. The collecting was conducted with Diptera traps using fresh fish as bait. Primeiro Registro de Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart) (Diptera, Calliphoridae) no Sudeste do Brasil Resumo. A presente nota relata o primeiro registro da espécie Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart), no Sudeste do Brasil, no Município de Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro. As coletas foram realizadas com auxílio de armadilhas para dípteros e a isca utilizada foi peixe fresco.

Most of the synanthropic bat species in Brazil are insectivores and frugivores. The greater round-eared bat, Tonatia bidens, is an animalivore, feeding on insects and small vertebrates, and roosts in tree cavities and rock crevices. It has been captured in forested areas of northern Argentina, as well as eastern Brazil and Paraguay. Despite their relative generalist habits and although T. bidens has been recorded in large forest remnants inside cities, we report here for the first time an individual found inside the garage of a house in an urban area of São Paulo city. We suggest that the lack of suitable roosting sites, rather than prey, is the limiting factor for the presence of this species in urban areas. However, this assumption needs to be investigated more robustly.

Background:. Eyelid dermatochalasis is an abnormal distention of the upper eyelid. This article presents a new classification of the lateral dermatochalasis (LDC) of the upper eyelids, which compares the pre- and post-blepharoplasty results and matches its results with those of the well-established Jacobs classification (JEC). Methods:. LDC classification includes four degrees: grade zero—absence of dermatochalasis; grade 1—lower edge of dermatochalasis above the intersection of the lacrimal caruncle with the edge of the upper eyelid; grade 2—between the intersection of the lacrimal caruncle with the edge of the upper eyelid and the lower edge of the iris at the pupillary midpoint; and grade 3—lower edge of dermatochalasis below the lower edge of the iris. This study was conducted in 100 dermatochalasis cases in patients between 38 and 79 years of age (mean = 59.3) and submitted to upper blepharoplasty. Results:. No statistically significant association was found between the LDC and JEC methods (P = 0.583). In both classifications, the eyelid dermatochalasis was reduced after blepharoplasty (P < 0.001). However, changes in the degrees of dermatochalasis before blepharoplasty were detected in 100% by LDC, and 41% by JEC. The degree of improvement of dermatochalasis observed by LDC after blepharoplasty showed greater specificity. Conclusions:. This new classification, LDC, is specific for the lateral eyelid dermatochalasis, which is based on exact anatomical points, and is easy to perform. LDC is superior to JEC, easy to be applied, and effective and specific in detecting variations in dermatochalasis after blepharoplasty.

Direct Money in School Program - Sustainable Schools is a federal government program linked to the National Fund for Education Development, which provides financial support in order to foster socio-environmental sustainability in primary schools from three interrelated dimensions: management, curriculum and space. This paper aimed to evaluate the implementation of the Direct Money in School Program - Sustainable Schools in 41 public schools in a municipality of the State of Bahia, highlighting the contributions concerning to physical space, management and curricular implementation of the environmental matter, as well as the challenges and perspectives for the realization of the school as a sustainable educator space, according to the National Sustainable Schools Program. Adopting a qualitative and descriptive approach, with the support of the quantitative analysis, it were used as methodological instruments documentary analysis, interview and in loco observation. It were interviewed the servant responsible for monitoring the execution of the financial resources released, the pedagogical advisor of the Municipal Education Department and the pedagogical managers and coordinators of each schooland coordinators of each school. The documentary analysis was based on the evaluation of the Action Plan, the Minutes, the Accountability and the Political Pedagogical Project. It was also carried out the in loco observation, with the objective to compare the data obtained through the interview and the documentary analysis with the local reality. According to analysis, the greatest obstacle to the effectiveness of this Program was the lack of capacity building, and this preparation of professionals is essential for a better applicability of resources, as well as greater involvement in the program. Furthermore, there was a lack of articulation between the Management, Curriculum and Physical Space strands, an important aspect to consolidate social and environmental sustainability in the school environment according to the principles of the National Sustainable Schools Program.

This paper aims to reflect on the educational process of young people deprived of their freedom, analyzing the conceptions of adolescence and youth and violence from teachers who teach and taught classes in the centers of Unidades de Internação da Fundação Casa (SP), from the perspective of human rights and the disease process of teachers. It is a qualitative study, which used semi-structured interviews with teachers from four centers of Unidades de Internação da Fundação Casa São Paulo state. Results showed that the educational logic is configured as similar to regular education offered in the schools integrated into the community, which shows some difficulties to provide the rights to education to young people in custody. The space of schooling seems to be stressed by explicit and implicit forms of violence experienced by / the students / as and by / the teacher. In the last case, the suffering has been configured in a disease process and or adaptation, as ways of survival at work. Once understood the rights, and confronted them with the practice, it is noticed that there is a need for a proposal of teaching and learning articulated in the context of deprivation of liberty. It makes sense to them, given guaranteeing fundamental rights to human dignity. Keywords: Youth; Schooling; Loss of Freedom.

Este artigo procura apresentar e compreender a dimensão e envolvência que a propaganda de guerra teve em Portugal durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Apesar da declaração de neutralidade, a presença da propaganda de guerra fez com que Portugal se tornasse num Estado colaborante com os beligerantes que, através das suas ações, formaram grupos de influência: Anglófilos e Germanófilos. Neste artigo pretende-se, em primeiro lugar, dar a conhecer como é que a neutralidade portuguesa lidou com o caso específico dos agentes de propaganda de cada um dos lados beligerantes, dando destaque aos seus movimentos e estratégias. Seguidamente, tomando o caso de duas revistas de carácter propagandístico editadas e distribuídas em Portugal a partir de 1940 – A Esfera (pró-Eixo) e Mundo Gráfico (pró-Aliados) – expõe-se as mensagens e ideias que se procuraram difundir, com base na análise de registos fotográficos aí publicados. Entre 1940 e 1945 foram vários os momentos de “neutralidade colaborante” realizada em vários aspetos, inclusive na propaganda, permitindo a sua publicação. As revistas A Esfera e Mundo Gráfico defendem interesses específicos e distintos. No entanto, como se poderá ver neste artigo, apresentam os mesmos meios para fazer chegar a sua mensagem.

Cochliomyia macellaria is of medical and veterinary interest, because it is an enteropathogen vector and causes secondary miyasis, and low cost diets are needed that maintain rearing quality of this species. The objective of this study was to assess a chicken gizzard diet, compared to beef, in the post-embrionic development of C. macellaria. Forty neolarvas (3rd generation) were transferred to 80g diets (four replications/treatment). The body mass of the mature larvae was recorded and the larvae were transferred to test tubes, kept at T 30ºC day/28ºC night, RH 70±10%, 12 hours light period, and observed daily. There was a significant difference between the body mass of larvae reared on the chicken gizzard (0.067g) and beef (0.062g) diets. There was no significant difference between the mean duration in days of the larval (4.00; 4.17), pupa (4.09; 4.04) and neolarva to adult (8.07 and 8.16) stages based on the gizzard and beef diets, respectively. The mean larval, pupa and total viability (> 85%) did not differ statistically by the Student’s t test (at 5% significance). There was no deviation in the sex ratio and no abnormality was observed in the adults. The results suggest that the chicken gizzard diet is an efficacious and cheap alternative for rearing C. macellaria in the laboratory.

Cochliomyia macellaria tem interese médico e médico veterinário por ser veiculadora de enteropatógenos e causadora de miíase secundária. A busca por dietas com baixo custo que mantenham a qualidade da criação torna-se necessária. Objetivou-se avaliar a dieta moela de frango no desenvolvimento pós-embrionário de C. macellaria, comparada a carne bovina. Quarenta neolarvas (3ª geração) foram transferidas para 80g de dieta (quatro repetições/tratamento). Foi registrada a massa corporal das larvas maduras, e estas transferidas para tubos de ensaio e mantidas a T 30ºC dia/28ºC noite, UR 70±10% e 12h de fotofase. As observações foram diárias. Houve diferença significativa entre a massa corporal das larvas criadas na dieta moela de frango (0,067g) e carne bovina (0,062g). Não houve diferença significativa entre a duração média em dias do estágio larval (4,00; 4,17), pupal (4,09; 4,04); de neolarva a adulto (8,07 e 8,16), para moela e carne, respectivamente. A viabilidade média larval, pupal e total (> 85%) não diferiram estatisticamente pelo teste t de Student, 5% de significância. Não houve desvio da razão sexual e não foi observada anormalidade dos adultos. A dieta moela de frango é uma alternativa eficaz e de baixo custo para criação de C. macellaria em laboratório.

Given the pressure on biodiversity, due to its use in an unsustainable way, particularly in the Caatinga biome, and the need to restore the popular knowledge, is that this paper was developed in order to conduct a survey of medicinal plants used by the community of Laços, Tanhaçú, in the state of Bahia. And identify, among these, those species that are found in the National Forest Contendas Sincorá, the city of Contention Sincorá, Bahia. The data collecting was done through interviews, having as a tool the use of questionnaires. The vegetal species mentioned by the community and found in the Conservation Unit were collected and sent for identification. The community were cited 92 species of plants used for medicinal purposes, of which only 10.9% were found in the conservation area and, among them, the species Bidens pilosa, known as ¿carrapicho de agulha¿, was the most cited (52.4%), followed by Amburana cearensis (27.7%), popularly known as ¿umburana macho¿. The paper showed that target community of the study uses many medicinal plants to treat their illnesses, however, few species were found in the National Forest Contendas do Sincorá.

OBJETIVO: investigar a possível relação do Pico de Fluxo Expiratório (PFE) com o Tempo Máximo de Fonação (TMF) em pacientes asmáticos. MÉTODOS: a pesquisa enfocou 16 indivíduos com o diagnóstico de asma pura, sendo 9 do gênero feminino e 7 do gênero masculino, atendidos no serviço ambulatorial de pneumologia do Hospital Júlia Kubitschek em BH. A equipe de pneumologia diagnosticou, classificou a asma e realizou o teste PFE. Posteriormente os pacientes foram submetidos à extração de tempo Máximo de Fonação (TMF) para os sons /a/, /i/, /u/, /e áfono/, /e sonoro/, /s/ e /z/. RESULTADOS: dos pacientes atendidos havia 12,50% (2) com asma tratada, 18,75% (3) com asma persistente leve, 43,75% (7) com asma persistente moderada, 6,25% (1) com asma moderada grave e 18,75% (3) com asma persistente grave. Foi observado que quando o TMF encontrava-se reduzido ocorria também uma redução do PFE e quando havia um aumento do TMF era encontrado no PFE valor também maior. CONCLUSÃO: foi possível observar uma associação e uma correlação entre as medidas TMF e PFE que sugerem uma relação direta dessas medidas.PURPOSE: to investigate the possible relationship between Expiratory Flow Peak (EFP) and Maximum Phonation Duration (PMD) for asthmatic patients METHODS: the research focused on 16 individuals diagnosed with pure asthma, where 9 were female and 7 were males, treated at the pneumology clinical services of Júlia Kubitschek Hospital. The pneumology team diagnosed, classified the asthma and performed the EFP test. The patients were submitted afterwards to PMD speech therapy evaluation. RESULTS: within the treated patients there were 12.50% (2) with treated asthma, 18.75% (3) with light persistent asthma, 43.75 % (7) with moderate persistent asthma, 6.25% (1) with severe moderate asthma and 18.75% (3) with severe persistent asthma. It was found that when PMD had decreased there was a decrease in EFP as well, and that when there was an increase of PMD the EFP value would also increase. CONCLUSION: it was possible to note a relation and a correlation between PMD and EFP measures, suggesting a direct relation between these measurements.

Abstract Objectives: to relate pregestational nutritional status, maternal age and number of pregnancies to the distribution of macronutrients and micronutrients according to the type of processing offoods consumed by high-risk pregnant women. Methods: a retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out with data from medical records of 200 pregnant women served by a public outpatient clinic in Rio Grande do Sul from 2014 to 2016. Results: the mean percentages of lipids, monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids and sodium intake were higher among ultra-processed foods. There was a significant inverse correlation between maternal age and total calorie intake (p=0.003) and percentage of carbohydrates (p=0.005) and proteins (p=0.037) from ultra-processed foods. There was also a significant association between pregestational nutritional status and total calorie intake (p=0.018) and percentage of carbohydrates (p=0.048) from ultra-processed foods. Conclusions: the mean percentages of lipids, monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids and sodium intake were higher among ultra-processed foods. It was observed that the older the maternal age of high-risk pregnant women, the lower the intake of total calories and percentages of carbohydrates and proteins from ultra-processed foods. It was also observed that pregestational nutritional status was significantly associated with the intake of total calories and percentage of carbohydrates from ultra-processed foods.
