International audience; The six conservation NGOs that wrote this article present their arguments for an evolution of the French forest policy. Their arguments are based on 5 main principles for the management of forest commons, i.e. 1) ensure a multifunctional management valuing all the ecological services of forests, 2) place biodiversity at the heart of forest policies to adapt management more easily, 3) be more aware of societal expectations in order tobetter meet them, 4) enable forests and foresters to fully respond to the unprecedented challenges of the climate crisis, and 5) integrate forests into land planning as a green infrastructure of the economy. Then, the six NGOs recommend a general political orientation basing any forestry policy on the constitutional environmental charter of 2004, and they propose 21 structural or operational measures.; Les six ONG de conservation de la nature auteures de cet article proposent leur argumentaire pour une évolution de la politique forestière nationale. Celui-ci est fondé suivant cinq grands principes de gestion du bien commun que sont les forêts : 1. Assurer une gestion multifonctionnelle valorisant tous les services écologiques des forêts ; 2. Mettre la biodiversité au coeur de la politique forestière pour faciliter l’adaptation de la gestion ; 3. Accroître l’écoute des attentes de la société, pour mieux y répondre ; 4. Mettre forêts et forestiers en capacité de répondre pleinement aux enjeux inédits de la crise climatique ; 5. Insérer les forêts dans l’aménagement du territoire comme infrastructure verte de l’économie. Ensuite, les six ONG recommandent une orientation politique générale consistant à fonder toute politique forestière sur la charte constitutionnelle de l’environnement de 2004 et proposent 21 mesures structurelles ou opérationnelles.

Extending the network of strict forest reserves is one of the conservation measures promoted by the French National Strategy for Biodiversity. It is based on the worldwide literature, according to which strict forest reserves may help preserving a part of the biodiversity that is threatened by forestry. However, this strategy is based on poor knowledge in the temperate context. In a national-scaled project based on data from 213 study plots set up in 15 forest sites throughout France, we analyzed the effect on forest management cessation and associated forest structure variables on the richness of 7 taxonomic groups: bats, vascular plants, birds, carabids, bryophytes, lignicolous fungi, saproxylic beetles. Bryophytes and lignicolous fungi appeared as the more favored by forest reserves and stand variables linked to deadwood or large old trees. Focusing on bryophyte groups, and distinguishing between all species and strict forest species, we here present further analyses including the additive or interactive effects of other variables known as important for bryophytes, namely humidity, light, temperature, precipitations or altitude. Although some of them enhanced the models in addition to deadwood variables, their additional effect was low compared to the strong positive effect of deadwood variables.

National audience; Pour saisir la portée et l’intérêt du projet GNB, il ne suffit pas de connaître ses objectifs, dûment fondés sur un bilan circonstancié de l’état des connaissances. Il faut aussi appréhender sa démarche « expérimentale », à commencer par la stratégie d’échantillonnage et d’inventaires; il faut comprendre le choix de méthodes d’analyse statistique innovantes mais complexes, avec en particulier la notion de magnitude des effets pour que les résultats puissent avoir une « lecture » opérationnelle. Impossible de résumer en quelques mots la réflexion exigeante qui a présidé à la conception du projet.
