Background Abnormal expression of protein kinase membrane associated tyrosine/threonine 1 (PKMYT1) is closely associated with multiple types of cancers. In the present study, we examined the roles of PKMYT1 in gastric cancer (GC) progression. Methods We examined the expression status of PKMYT1 in GC tissues and cell lines. Meanwhile, short hairpin RNA (shRNA) was used to inhibit the endogenous expression of PKMYT1 in GC cells. Then we analyzed the effect of PKMYT1 on the malignant biological behavior of GC cells by in vitro and in vivo experiments. Results The findings showed high PKMYT1 expressions in GC tissues as well as a positive correlation between PKMYT1 expression and prognosis of patients with GC. Additional findings also revealed that PKMYT1 silencing significantly enhanced apoptosis and inhibited GC cell proliferation. In vivo, the silence of PKMYT1 inhibits tumor growth. Further analysis showed that the increase in PKMYT1 expressions led to malignant biological behavior through activation of the MAPK signaling pathway. Conclusion Our data suggested that PKMYT1 promotes cell proliferation and apoptosis resistance in GC cells by activating the MAPK signaling pathway, making it a potential therapeutic target for GC.

Background For patients with chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis in less developed western regions in China, due to constraints of local economic conditions, the choice of treatment measures is often limited. However if patients recieved valid management and effective treatment, they were able to maintain their health and benign prognosis. Case presentation This study narrates the long-term treatment and careful follow-up of a patient with chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis in a less developed western region in China, and analyzes the prognosis of the disease and countermeasures. Conclusions This would partly reflect the development of antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis B and multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment for cirrhosis-related complications in remote region with limited resources in the past 20 years.

Continuous vorticity panels are used to model general unsteady inviscid, incompressible, and two-dimensional flows. The geometry of the airfoil is approximated by series of short straight segments having endpoints that lie on the actual surface. A piecewise linear, continuous distribution of vorticity over the airfoil surface is used to generate disturbance flow. The no-penetration condition is imposed at the midpoint of each segment and at discrete times. The wake is simulated by a system of point vortices, which move at local fluid velocity. At each time step, a new wake panel with uniform vorticity distribution is attached to the trailing edge, and the condition of constant circulation around the airfoil and wake is imposed. A new expression for Kutta condition is developed to study (i) the effect of thickness on the lift buildup of an impulsively started airfoil, (ii) the effects of reduced frequency and heave amplitude on the thrust production of flapping airfoils, and (iii) the vortex-airfoil interaction. This work presents some hydrodynamic results for tidalstream turbine.

The tandem arrangement was found to be the most effective to enhance the lift of the rear airfoil. The interference effect between tidal turbine blades was shown clearly.

Information on geographic differences of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) positivity and association with HLA in gastric carcinoma are limited. Therefore, the association of gastric carcinoma with EBV was examined in 118 patients from Suzhou, China, where the incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is high, and in 216 patients from Osaka, Japan, where the incidence of NPC is low, NPC being one of the EBV-associated carcinomas. Expression of HLA-A2 was also examined in some of these cases. The EBV genome was evidenced by PCR and in the tumor cells by in situ hybridization in 7/90 and 9/151 of cases from Suzhou and Osaka, respectively. Immunohistochemistry revealed that cancer cells in all cases with EBV did not express latent membrane protein-I. Type A was found in all cases positive for EBV. Among several histologic and clinical factors, only age of patients showed a correlation with EBV positivity: patients over 60 showed a higher frequency than patients below 60 years of age (p < 0.05). Typing of the HLA-A locus was possible in 16 cases positive for the EBV genome: 3 of 4 cases from Suzhou and 4 of 7 from Osaka were positive for HLA-A2 products. Severe lymphoid cell infiltration was found in 2 of 7 cases and 1 of 4 cases with and without the HLA-A2 type, respectively. The reported frequency of EBV positivity in Chinese living in Taiwan and in Japanese living in Hawaii is higher than in Suzhou, China, and Osaka, Japan, respectively. Our findings suggest that EBV association with gastric carcinoma is influenced by environmental and cultural factors.

In the cation of the title hydrated molecular salt, C10H9N2+·ClO4−·CH3OH, the dihedral angle formed by the pyridine rings is 28.82 (15)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular N—H...O and O—H...N hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions, with centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.5913 (7) and 3.6526 (7) Å. Three O atoms of the perchlorate anion are disordered over two positions with refined occupancy factors of 0.649 (7):0.351 (7).
