Gastric schwannoma is a relatively rare submucosal mesenchymal tumor with low probability of metastasis and arises from Schwann cells of the gastrointestinal nervous plexus. Surgical therapy is the main treatment of gastric schwannoma with symptoms or malignant tendency. Gastroparesis is a potential complication following gastrointestinal surgery, which is a clinical syndrome caused by gastric emptying disorder and characterized by nausea, vomiting, and bloating, resulting in insufficient nutrient intake. Generally, post-surgical etiology is the main potential etiology of gastroparesis, while the most common underlying etiology is diabetes mellitus. So far, reports of gastroparesis arising from resection of gastric schwannoma are rare. We present an 80-year-old woman who was diagnosed with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) primarily and has undergone laparoscopic wedge-shaped gastrectomy. The pathological and immunohistochemical examination ultimately established the diagnosis of gastric schwannoma. The patient experienced belching, nausea, vomiting, and bloating 1 week after the surgery and confirmed as gastroparesis through gastrointestinal series and gastroscopic examination. A series of treatments were performed, including correcting fluid-electrolyte disorders and vitamin deficiencies, and nutritional support and pharmacological treatments. The patient ultimately recovered well, and the relevant literatures were reviewed to identify and handle similar cases hereafter.

Fewer studies related to the durability of multi-source solid waste geopolymer cementitious materials and the massive accumulation of industrial solid waste are urgent problems to be solved in practice in Inner Mongolia, China. In this paper, blast furnace slag (BFS), fly ash (FA), and calcium carbide slag (CCS) are used as the main raw materials to prepare geopolymer cementitious materials (BFCG) with Calcium Carbide Slag as the Ca-source alkali activator and NaOH as the Na-source alkali activator, considering their durability properties. By assessing the indicators of mechanical performance, engineering performance, and the synergistic mechanism of Ca2+ and Na+ in multi-source solid waste geopolymer, four sets of BFCG ratio optimization schemes are selected. XRD, FT-TR, SEM-EDS, and other testing methods are used to analyze its freeze–thaw resistance and acid–alkali-salt corrosion resistance. The following conclusions are drawn: the BFCG prepared under the synergistic excitation of Ca2+ and Na+ has better resistance to freezing and thawing, as well as acid-alkali-salt corrosion, both of which are in accordance with the standard specifications for road construction in China. After the freeze–thaw cycles, BFCG still has more three-dimensional network-like silica-aluminate structures, a compact micromorphology, and small pores. Its strength loss rate is 0.56 %–15.56 %, the mass loss rate is 0.19 %–1.26 %, and the relative dynamic modulus is 79.56 %–100.25 %. In a NaOH environment, the crystal type of BFCG did not change significantly, and the resistivity coefficients are 115.78 %–143.54 %. In a Na2SO4 environment, the decalcification or dealumination of C-A-S-H gel leads to the formation of a gel rich in silicon, magnesium, and aluminum phases, with a corrosion resistance coefficient of 101.8 %–119.96 %. In a HCl environment, HCl erosion inhibits the growth of hydration product crystals, with corrosion resistance coefficients ranging from 73.83 % to 97.24 %. BFCG-D has the best resistance to freezing and thawing as well as acid and alkali corrosion. BFCG-D has the best resistance to freezing and thawing as well as acid and alkali corrosion. These studies show that BFCG offers a promising solution for improving the durability of road base materials and reducing industrial solid waste.

Breast cancer stands as the foremost malignant tumor among women globally, with postoperative recurrence and metastasis significantly impacting patient prognosis. While metastasis to various sites has been reported, gastric involvement remains uncommon. Presenting a case of gastric metastasis a decade post-breast cancer surgery, we underscore the rarity of this occurrence. Our patient, an elderly woman, underwent left breast modified radical surgery ten years prior, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy, maintaining favorable health until experiencing abdominal discomfort two months ago. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the chest and upper abdomen unveiled diffuse abnormal enhancement in the gastric body and sinus wall. Subsequent gastroscopy revealed an ulcer near the gastric antrum, with immunohistochemical staining confirming invasive lobular carcinoma metastasis from the breast. We further conducted an extensive review of 23 cases with detailed information retrieved from PubMed, elucidating clinicopathological, endoscopic features, diagnostic modalities, and contemporary treatment strategies for breast-stomach metastasis. Our findings underscore the imperative of regular postoperative surveillance for breast cancer patients. Timely detection, accurate diagnosis, and appropriate intervention are paramount in managing gastric metastasis, significantly influencing patient outcomes.

Lichuan black tea (LBT) is a well-known congou black tea in China, but there is relatively little research on its processing technology. Echa No. 10 is the main tea tree variety for producing LBT. This study investigated the sensory quality, flavor components, and bioactivity of Echa No. 10 Lichuan black tea (LBT) at different drying temperatures (70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, and 130 °C). During 80–120 °C, increasing the drying temperature enabled a higher sweet aroma concentration and enhanced the sweetness in the taste, in contrast to reducing the floral, fruity, and sweet aromas, and increasing the bitterness and astringency, at >120 °C. Additionally, with an increasing drying temperature, the contents of tea polyphenols and total catechins significantly decreased, with the theaflavins decreasing first and then increasing, and the alcohols, aldehydes, esters, and hydrocarbons increasing first and then decreasing. Meanwhile, compounds (including linalool, (Z)-linalool oxide (furanoid), (E)-linalool oxide (furanoid), cis-β-Ocimene, and methyl salicylate) contribute more to the floral and fruity aromas at

Withering is one of the major processing steps critical for the quality of black tea. In this study, we investigated the mechanisms underlying the physicochemical changes in metabolites and gene expression during the withering process of black tea using metabolomic and transcriptomic approaches, respectively. Based on gas chromatography/mass spectrometry non-targeted metabolomic approaches (GC-MS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatograph–tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS), a total of 76 volatile compounds and 160 non-volatile compounds were identified from tea leaves, respectively. RNA-seq analysis revealed that the number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) for the comparative combination of withering time (i.e., W4h, W6h, W8h, W10h, and W12h) compared with CK (i.e., fresh leaves) were 3634, 2906, 4127, 5736, and 7650, respectively. The core genes in starch metabolism, namely alpha-amylase (AMY) and beta-amylase (BAM), were upregulated as withering time increased. AMY and BAM contributed to the decomposition of starch to increase the soluble sugars. The content of tea leaf alcohols and aldehydes, which are the vital contributors for greenish aroma, gradually decreased as withering time increased due to the downregulation of associated genes while the compounds related to sweet and fruity characteristics increased due to the upregulated expression of related genes. Most DEGs involved in amino acids were significantly upregulated, leading to the increase in free amino acids content. However, DEGs involved in catechins metabolism were generally downregulated during withering, and resulted in a reduction in catechins content and the accumulation of theaflavins. The same trend was observed in alpha-linolenic acid metabolism-related genes that were downregulated and enhanced the reduction in grassy aroma in black tea. The weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) of DEGs showed that one module can be associated with more components and one component can be regulated by various modules. Our findings provide new insights into the quality formation of black tea during the withering process.

Due to low density, large pores, and numerous cracks, recycled aggregate mortar has defects of lower fluidity and lower strength compared to natural aggregate mortar. In order to modify inherent defects of recycled aggregates, nanosilica (NS) with different dosages (0%, 0.6%, 1.2%, 1.8%, 2.4% and 3%) was added to recycled aggregate mortar (RNC), and 40% natural sand in RNC was replaced by recycled aggregates. Then consistency test, compressive strength test and microscopic tests (SEM, EDS and XRD) were conducted to investigate working performance and microscopic mechanism. It was found that the addition of NS can improve the flowability of RNC, and the consistency value reaches the maximum (53 mm) while NS content is 2.4%, which increases by 14% comparing to the specimen without NS. The compressive strength of RNC increases and decreases with increasing NS content in the ranges of 0–1.8% and 1.8–3% respectively, and compressive strength is 3.3 and 5.9 MPa at curing ages of 7 d and 28 d respectively while NS content is 1.8%, which increase 50% and 14% comparing to the specimen without NS. Meanwhile, the consistency value of the specimen with NS content of 1.8% is 51 mm, which is close the maximum value corresponding to NS content of 2.4%. For that, 1.8% is suggested as the optimal content of NS. Moreover, the addition of NS can reduce the brittleness index and mechanical damage degree, and enhance the energy absorption effect. Microscopic analysis reveals that NS can not only fill the inherent cracks and pores of recycled aggregates, but also promote cement hydration reaction, and more hydration products (C-S-H) can efficiently reduce the cracks and pores of recycled aggregates. It is believed that the finds of this paper can provide theoretical support for the application of recycled aggregates in practical engineering.

Abstract Raman spectroscopy has tremendous potential for material analysis with its molecular fingerprinting capability in many branches of science and technology. It is also an emerging omics technique for metabolic profiling to shape precision medicine. However, precisely attributing vibration peaks coupled with specific environmental, instrumental, and specimen noise is problematic. Intelligent Raman spectral preprocessing to remove statistical bias noise and sample-related errors should provide a powerful tool for valuable information extraction. Here, we propose a novel Raman spectral preprocessing scheme based on self-supervised learning (RSPSSL) with high capacity and spectral fidelity. It can preprocess arbitrary Raman spectra without further training at a speed of ~1 900 spectra per second without human interference. The experimental data preprocessing trial demonstrated its excellent capacity and signal fidelity with an 88% reduction in root mean square error and a 60% reduction in infinite norm ( $${L}_{{\infty }}$$ L ∞ ) compared to established techniques. With this advantage, it remarkably enhanced various biomedical applications with a 400% accuracy elevation (ΔAUC) in cancer diagnosis, an average 38% (few-shot) and 242% accuracy improvement in paraquat concentration prediction, and unsealed the chemical resolution of biomedical hyperspectral images, especially in the spectral fingerprint region. It precisely preprocessed various Raman spectra from different spectroscopy devices, laboratories, and diverse applications. This scheme will enable biomedical mechanism screening with the label-free volumetric molecular imaging tool on organism and disease metabolomics profiling with a scenario of high throughput, cross-device, various analyte complexity, and diverse applications.

Iron (Fe) deficiency is one of the most common micronutrient imbalances limiting plant growth globally, especially in arid and saline alkali regions due to the decreased availability of Fe in alkaline soils. Malus halliana grows well in arid regions and is tolerant of Fe deficiency. Here, a physiological and metabolomic approach was used to analyze the short-term molecular response of M. halliana roots to Fe deficiency. On the one hand, physiological data show that the root activity first increased and then decreased with the prolongation of the stress time, but the change trend of root pH was just the opposite. The total Fe content decreased gradually, while the effective Fe decreased at 12 h and increased at 3 d. The activity of iron reductase (FCR) increased with the prolongation of stress. On the other hand, a total of 61, 73, and 45 metabolites were identified by GC–MS in three pairs: R12h (Fe deficiency 12 h) vs. R0h (Fe deficiency 0 h), R3d (Fe deficiency 3 d) vs. R0h, and R3d vs. R12h, respectively. Sucrose, as a source of energy, produces monosaccharides such as glucose by hydrolysis, while glucose accumulates significantly at the first (R12h vs. R0h) and third time points (R3d vs. R0h). Carbohydrates (digalacturonate, L-xylitol, ribitol, D-xylulose, glucose, and glycerol) are degraded into pyruvate through glycolysis and pentose phosphate, which participate in the TCA. Glutathione metabolism and the TCA cycle coordinate with each other, actively respond to Fe deficiency stress, and synthesize secondary metabolites at the same time. This study thoroughly examines the metabolite response to plant iron deficiency, highlighting the crucial roles of sugar metabolism, tricarboxylic acid cycle regulation, and glutathione metabolism in the short-term iron deficiency response of apples. It also lays the groundwork for future research on analyzing iron deficiency tolerance.

As a Pt-group element, Pd has been regarded as one of the alternatives to Pt-based catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we performed density functional theory (DFT) computations to explore the most stable structures of PdxBy (x = 6, 19, 44), revealed the in situ structural reconstruction of these clusters under acidic conditions, and evaluated their HER activity. We found that the presence of B can prevent underpotential hydrogen adsorption and activate the H atoms on the cluster surface for the HER. The theoretical calculations show that the reaction barrier for the HER on ~1 nm sized Pd44B4 can be as low as 0.36 eV, which is even lower than for the same-sized Pt and Pd2B nanoparticles. The ultra-high HER activity of sub-nanosized PdxBy clusters makes them a potential new and efficient HER electro-catalyst. This study provides new ideas for evaluating and designing novel nanocatalysts based on the structural reconstruction of small-sized nanoparticles in the future.

This paper reports a two-step method for preparing a metal-organic framework (MOF) MIL-101 (Fe) based substrate with high sensitivity and stability for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) analysis. Firstly, MIL-101 (Fe) nanoparticles were synthesized using a traditional solvothermal method. Next, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were produced through a reduction method, and the AuNPs/MIL-101 (Fe) composite substrate was created by combining MIL-101 (Fe) with AuNPs. The adsorption capacity of the substrate and its SERS activity after multiple cleaning were tested. Using Rhodamine 6 G (R6G) as the probe molecule, the substrate's detection capability reached 10-8 M, with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of approximately 13.15%, indicating excellent SERS performance and uniformity. The ideal detection capability for sulfapyridine using the composite matrix can be as low as 10-6 M. This proposed substrate is convenient and efficient, holding great potential for the rapid and sensitive detection of antibiotic residues and other environmental pollutants.

This paper presents a hybrid algorithm to solve the multi-objective path planning (MOPP) problem for mobile robots in a static nuclear accident environment. The proposed algorithm mimics a real nuclear accident site by modeling the environment with a two-layer cost grid map based on geometric modeling and Monte Carlo calculations. The proposed algorithm consists of two steps. The first step optimizes a path by the hybridization of improved ant colony optimization algorithm-modified A∗ (IACO-A∗) that minimizes path length, cumulative radiation dose and energy consumption. The second module is the high radiation dose rate avoidance strategy integrated with the IACO-A∗ algorithm, which will work when the mobile robots sense the lethal radiation dose rate, avoiding radioactive sources with high dose levels. Simulations have been performed under environments of different complexity to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, and the results show that IACO-A∗ has better path quality than ACO and IACO. In addition, a study comparing the proposed IACO-A∗ algorithm and recent path planning (PP) methods in three scenarios has been performed. The simulation results show that the proposed IACO-A∗ algorithm is obviously superior in terms of stability and minimization the total cost of MOPP.

Nine tea cultivars planted in Enshi were selected and processed into “Lichuan black tea”. Sensory evaluation showed that cultivar had the greatest influence on taste and aroma quality, including sweetness, umami and concentration of taste, as well as sweet and floral fragrances of aroma. The non-volatile and volatile components were identified by UPLC-Q-TOF/MS and GC–MS, and PCA analysis showed good separation between cultivars, which could cause the difference in quality. Baiyaqilan, Meizhan and Echa 10 had a floral aroma, with obvious difference in their aromatic composition from other cultivars. Moreover, Echa 10 also had a strong sweet aroma. The key aroma components in Echa 10 (with the largest cultivation area) were further investigated by GC-O-MS combined with odor activity value (OAV) analysis, included β-damascenone, phenylethylaldehyde, nonenal, geraniol, linalool, jasmonone, (E)-2-nonenal, β-cyclocitral, (E)-β-ocimene, methyl salicylate, β-ionone, 2,6,10,10-tetramethyl-1-oxaspiro[4.5]dec-6-ene, citral, β-myrcene, nerol, phenethyl alcohol, benzaldehyde, hexanal, nonanoic acid, and jasmin lactone.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) provides an alternative rapid detection method for pesticide residues in food, but fenvalerate possesses poor affinity to the novel metal substrate, thus restricting its analysis. To break this bottleneck, a SERS-active platform with an Ag/rGO composite structure was engineered using a facile method for fenvalerate detection. Ag nanoparticles with a 60 nm diameter can grow evenly on the top and bottom of rGO layers under intense ultrasonic oscillation, and rGO in hybrid material acts as an ideal hotspot holder between the gaps of Ag nanoparticles, not only allowing the interaction area to be enhanced both electromagnetically and chemically but also enabling the capture and enrichment of fenvalerate pesticide molecules into the “hotspot” area to improve detection sensitivity. Ag/rGO composite substrate possesses superior SERS performance with an ultralow detectable concentration of 4-aminothiophenol (10−10 M) and good reproducibility, endowing the material with a better enhancement effect than pure Ag nanoparticles. When used as the SERS substrate for fenvalerate detection, Ag/rGO composite material showed excellent performance in both experiments and theoretical calculation, with the limit of detection (LOD) of fenvalerate being as low as 1.69 × 10−5 mg/kg and a detection model with an R2 of 99.2%, demonstrating its exciting potential as a SERS substrate for pesticides detection.

The effects of NaCl-induced salinity on biomass allocation, anatomical characteristics of leaves, ion accumulation, salt repellency, and salt secretion ability were investigated in two apple rootstock cultivars (Malus halliana ‘9-1-6’ and Malus baccata), which revealed the physiological adaptive mechanisms of M. halliana ‘9-1-6’ in response to salt stress factors. This experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using a nutrient solution pot. Salt stress was simulated by treating the plants with a 100 mM NaCl solution, while 1/2 Hoagland nutrient solution was used as a control (CK) instead of the NaCl solution. The results showed that the two rootstocks responded to salt environments by increasing the proportion of root biomass allocation. According to the stress susceptibility index, ‘9-1-6’ exhibits a lower salt sensitivity index and a higher salt tolerance index. The thickness of the leaf, upper and lower epidermis, palisade tissue, and mesophyll tissue compactness (CTR) of the two rootstocks were significantly decreased, while the thickness of sponge tissue and mesophyll tissue looseness (SR) were significantly increased, and the range of ‘9-1-6’ was smaller than that of M. baccata. With an extension of stress time, the accumulation of Na+ increased significantly, and the accumulation of K+ decreased gradually. The stem and leaves of ‘9-1-6’ showed a lower accumulation of Na+ and a higher accumulation of K+, and the roots displayed a higher ability to reject Na+, as well as young and old leaves showed a stronger ability to secrete Na+. In conclusion, within a certain salt concentration range, the ‘9-1-6’ root part can maintain lower salt sensitivity and a higher root-to-shoot ratio by increasing the proportion of root biomass allocation; the aerial part responds to salt stress through thicker leaves and a complete double-layer fence structure; the roots and stem bases can effectively reduce the transportation of Na+ to the aerial parts, as well as effectively secrete Na+ from the aerial parts through young and old leaves, thereby maintaining a higher K+/Na+ ratio in the aerial parts, showing a strong salt tolerance.

This study delved into the aroma characteristics of “Qingxiang” oolong tea, analyzing six different cultivars and their processing modes. The findings showed that both cultivars and processing modes have a significant impact on the oolong tea aroma system. The study identified 18 terpenoid volatiles (VTs), 11 amino-acid-derived volatiles (AADVs), 15 fatty-acid-derived volatiles (FADVs), 3 carotenoid-derived volatiles (CDVs), and 10 other compounds in oolong tea that differentiate it from green and black tea. The turn-over stage was found to be the primary processing stage for oolong tea aroma formation. Molecular sensory analysis revealed that the “fresh” odor attribute is the basis for its aroma, while “floral and fruity” fragrances are its aroma characteristics. The perception of oolong tea as “fresh” and “floral and fruity” is influenced by the interactions of its aroma components. These findings provide a new basis for breed improvement and process enhancement in oolong tea production.

This study fristly investigated the taste quality formation and leaf conducting tissue changes in six types of Chinese tea (green, black, oolong, yellow, white, and dark) made from Mingke No.1 variety. Non-targeted metabolomics showed the vital manufacturing processes (green tea-de-enzyming, black tea-fermenting, oolong tea-turning-over, yellow tea-yellowing, white tea-withering, and dark tea-pile-fermenting) were highly related to their unique taste formation, due to different fermentation degree in these processes. After drying, the retained phenolics, theanine, caffeine, and other substances significantly impacted each tea taste quality formation. Meanwhile, the tea leaf conducting tissue structure was significantly influenced by high processing temperature, and the change of its inner diameter was related to moisture loss during tea processing, as indicated by its significant different Raman characteristic peaks (mainly cellulose and lignin) in each key process. This study provides a reference for process optimization to improve tea quality.

Coal-based energy structure of China has not only guaranteed energy supply, but also brought a lot of fly ash, because of the low utilization rate of fly ash has caused serious environmental pollution and farmland occupation problems, especially in Northwest China. At present, the extraction of useful components has become a research hotspot of high-value utilization of fly ash, especially the extraction of amorphous silicon in it an important means to improve the value of resource utilization of fly ash. In this paper, two main processes of extracting amorphous silicon from fly a share described, namely alkali leaching and acid leaching. The principle and characteristics of the process are analyzed and the application of products by silicon extraction in the insulation material, silica black, molecular sieve, filling of paper and rubber is discussed. Compared with the products of traditional silicon-based, the various of silicon-based products prepared by fly ash have the advantages of better performance, lower cost and more wider application, which can be regarded as an effective way to realize the high-value, fine and cascade utilization of fly ash.

A non-targeted metabolomics approach and sensory evaluation, coupled with multivariate statistical analysis, systematically uncover the impact of the rolling time on the quality parameters of black tea. GC-MS analysis reveals that a moderate extension of rolling time favorably contributes to the accumulation of characteristic aroma components in black tea. The volatile components reach their highest concentration in black tea samples processed during an 80-min rolling period. UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS analysis demonstrates a substantial decrease in the contents of catechins and flavonoids with an increase in rolling time. Simultaneously, the production of theaflavins, coupled with the degradation of green bitterness volatiles (GBVs), significantly contributes to the formation of endogenous aroma components in black tea. These findings underscore the close relationship between rolling time control and black tea quality, emphasizing that a moderate extension of the rolling time fosters the development of improved black tea flavor quality. The comprehensive quality evaluation indicates that the optimal duration is 80 min. However, the initial 0 to 20 min of rolling is a crucial phase for the genesis and transformation of black tea quality. This study offers valuable insights into the influence of rolling time on black tea quality, potentially enhancing future studies of rolling technology. It provides theoretical guidelines for optimizing the processing of Gongfu black tea.

Fluidized solidified soil (FSS) is a cement-based engineering matergood working performance and mechanical properties. Based on fixed cement and desulphurisation gypsum (DG), fly ash (FA) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) were added as admixtures to the construction slurry to prepare three types of FSS: namely cement-GGBS-DG FSS (CGD-FSS), cement-FA-GGBS-DG FSS (CFGD-FSS), and cement-FA-DG FSS (CFD-FSS). Considering 7 d, 14 d, and 28 d three curing times, compressive, flexural, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses were conducted to explore the time-dependent mechanical properties and microscopic characterisation of FSS. The mechanical test showed that CFGD-FSS doped with FA and GGBS had better fluidity, compressive strength, and flexural strength than CGD-FSS doped with FA alone and CFD-FSS doped with GGBS. The CFGD-FSS specimen with a cement:FA:GGBS:DG ratio of 30: 10: 40: 20 in the curing agent had the best mechanical properties, i.e., the CFGD01 specimens. It has fluidity of 189 mm, compressive strength of 671 kPa, and flexural strength of 221 kPa with a 28d curing time, which can meet the working requirements of FSS for filling narrow engineering spaces. And compared with other specimens, it has the shortest setting time, which can effectively shorten the construction period. Microscopic analysis showed that a large number of hydration products, such as calcium silicate hydrate, calcium aluminate hydrate, and ettringite (Aft), were well-formed in the FSS, resulting in good mechanical properties, especially for the CFGD-01 specimens. Finally, two empirical models were established to describe the compressive strength–porosity and flexural strength–porosity relationships. Moreover, the investigated data agreed well with the modelling results.

Considering the discrete and stochastic properties of granular materials, a two-dimensional numerical model was established to study the dynamic behavior of high-speed railway (HSR) ballastless track subgrade by using finite difference-discrete element (FDM-DEM) coupling method. Combined with on-site vibration test results in macroscopic scale, the mesoscopic vibration response of subgrade granular materials was analyzed under different speed levels. In the surface layer (i.e., the top area of the subgrade, thickness = 0.4 m), particles showed a very wide response band in the frequency domain (up to 130 Hz), even beyond the maximum frequency of train loading (60 Hz). It was found that some particles in the surface layer produced not only forced vibration, but also local random vibration. However, the bottom layer particles (i.e., the area under the surface layer, thickness = 2.3 m) were only active within 40 Hz. 2) Force chains in the granular aggregate were disappeared and rebuilt synchronously in the dynamic loading process. A typical mode of force chain weakening was described in meso scale. 3) Particles at interface region between the surface and bottom layer exhibited severe local vibration amplification when the train speed level was higher than 300 km/h.

The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) has resulted in vast amounts of widely distributed data. Sharing these data can spur innovative advancements and enhance service quality. However, conventional data-sharing methods often involve third-party intermediaries, posing risks of single-point failures and privacy leaks. Moreover, these traditional sharing methods lack a secure transaction model to compensate for data sharing, which makes ensuring fair payment between data consumers and providers challenging. Blockchain, as a decentralized, secure, and trustworthy distributed ledger, offers a novel solution for data sharing. Nevertheless, since all nodes on the blockchain can access on-chain data, data privacy is inadequately protected, and traditional privacy-preserving methods like anonymization and generalization are ineffective against attackers with background knowledge. To address these issues, this paper proposes a decentralized, privacy-preserving, and fair data transaction model based on blockchain technology. We designed an adaptive local differential privacy algorithm, MDLDP, to protect the privacy of transaction data. Concurrently, verifiable encrypted signatures are employed to address the issue of fair payment during the data transaction process. This model proposes a committee structure to replace the individual arbitrator commonly seen in traditional verifiable encrypted signatures, thereby reducing potential collusion between dishonest traders and the arbitrator. The arbitration committee leverages threshold signature techniques to manage arbitration private keys. A full arbitration private key can only be collaboratively constructed by any arbitrary t members, ensuring the key’s security. Theoretical analyses and experimental results reveal that, in comparison to existing approaches, our model delivers enhanced transactional security. Moreover, while guaranteeing data availability, MDLDP affords elevated privacy protection.

In order to accurately control the crystal of calcium silicate minerals synthesized by hydrothermal using calcium silicate slag and silica fume, the dynamic hydrothermal synthesis experiments of calcium silicate minerals were carried out using calcium silicate slag and silica fume under different C/S molar ratios. And the phase species, micromorphology, micropore parameters of the hydrothermal synthesis were analyzed by XRD, SEM, EDS and micropore analysis. The results show that the main mechanism of hydrothermal synthesis reaction is that β-calcium silicate, the main mineral in calcium silicate slag, rapidly hydrates to form Ca(OH)2 at high temperature and high pressure hydrothermal synthesis conditions, and then Ca(OH)2 reacts with Si and Al groups in amorphous silica fume to form different crystal of calcium silicate minerals which C/S molar ratio is similar to total C/S molar ratio of raw materials. With the increase of C/S molar ratio, the crystal of the main hydrothermal synthesis changes in the order of petal-like C–S–H, silk-like Gyrolite, long flake-like Tobermorite, fiber-like Xonotlite and short flake-like Scawtite. And when the main phase is petal-like C–S–H, the average pore volume, average pore diameter and specific surface area of hydrothermal synthesis are the largest. However, when the main phase is fiber-like Xonotlite, the average pore diameter of hydrothermal synthesis is larger, but the average pore volume and specific surface area are the smallest.

Fresh tea leaves, both single bud and one leaf with a bud, were used as the test materials in this study. The variation in the main mechanical properties, such as texture and tensile properties, during the processing of Longjing tea was examined by using texture profile analysis (TPA) and stress–strain tensile tests. The plasticity showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing during the processing, whereas the elasticity displayed the opposite tendency. The flexibility reached a maximum during the fixing stage and then slowly declined with a relatively small change. Initially, the maximum force dropped down and then gradually elevated later.Both the tensile strength and the fracture strain indicated an upward movement at the beginning and then a downfall afterward. The elastic modulus changed little before the final panning stage, then raised significantly. The correlation analysis revealed that the flexibility of tea leaves was highly positively correlated with water content. At water content of 30% and 50%, the plasticity and flexibility of tea leaves reached a clear peak and the maximum force was at a low level, which is suitable for the shaping of Longjing tea. The results also demonstrated that the main mechanical properties of different tender materials change differently during the processing. The research findings can provide parameters for optimizing the mechanical design and processing technology of Longjing tea.

Abstract Background The fecal microbiota in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and in autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) patients remains largely unknown. We aimed to characterize the fecal microbiota in patients with PDAC and AIP, and explore the possibility of fecal microbial biomarkers for distinguishing PDAC and AIP. Methods 32 patients with PDAC, 32 patients with AIP and 32 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HC) were recruited and the fecal microbiotas were analyzed through high-throughput metagenomic sequencing. Alterations of fecal short-chain fatty acids were measured using gas chromatographic method. Results Principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) revealed that microbial compositions differed significantly between PDAC and HC samples; whereas, AIP and HC individuals tended to cluster together. Significant reduction of phylum Firmicutes (especially butyrate-producing bacteria, including Eubacterium rectale, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Roseburia intestinalis) and significant increase of phylum Proteobacteria (especially Gammaproteobacteria) were observed only among PDAC samples. At species level, when compared with HC samples, we revealed 24 and 12 differently enriched bacteria in PDAC and AIP, respectively. Functional analysis showed a depletion of short-chain fatty acids synthesis associated KO modules (e.g. Wood-Ljungdahl pathway) and an increase of KO modules associated with bacterial virulence (e.g. type II general secretion pathway). Consistent with the downregulation of butyrate-producing bacteria, gas chromatographic analysis showed fecal butyrate content was significantly decreased in PDAC group. Eubacterium rectale, Eubacterium ventrisum and Odoribacter splanchnicus were among the most important biomarkers in distinguishing PDAC from HC and from AIP individuals. Receiver Operating Characteristic analysis showed areas under the curve of 90.74% (95% confidence interval [CI] 86.47–100%), 88.89% (95% CI 73.49–100%), and 76.54% (95% CI 52.5–100%) for PDAC/HC, PDAC/AIP and AIP/HC, respectively. Conclusions In conclusion, alterations in fecal microbiota and butyrate of patients with PDAC suggest an underlying role of gut microbiota for the pathogenesis of PDAC. Fecal microbial and butyrate as potential biomarkers may facilitate to distinguish patients with PDAC from patients with AIP and HCs which worth further validation.

Introduction: Gamification has been shown to improve academic gains, but the mechanism remains elusive. We aim to understand how psychological constructs interact, and influence medical education using mathematical modelling. Methods: Studying a group of medical students (n=100; average age: 20) over a period of 4 years with the Personal Responsibility Orientation to Self-Direction in Learning Scale (PRO-SDLS) survey. Statistical tests (Paired t-test) and models (logistic regression) were used to decipher the changes within these psychometric constructs (Motivation, Control, Self-efficacy & Initiative), with gamification as a tool. Students were encouraged to partake in a maze (10 stations) that challenged them to answer anatomical questions using potted human specimens. An accelerator driven subcritical system (ADS) is a new nuclear energy system which could not only produce clean energy but also incinerate nuclear waste. In this paper, inherent safety analysis of an ADS is performed with neutronics and thermal-hydraulics coupled code named ARTAP. Five typical accidents are carried out, including the cases of proton beam interruption, transient overpower, reactivity insertion, loss of flow, and loss of heat sink. The transient simulations are performed in the average channel and the hottest channel of the fuel pin in the ADS core. The simulation results for beam interruption show that the highest temperature of the pellet is in the middle of the fuel element in the average channel, while the peak temperature of the cladding is in the top of the fuel element. After the beam is interrupted for 20s, the maximum temperature drops at the fuel center, the cladding inner surface, and the outlet coolant in the hottest channel are 644.46K, 162.27K, and 136.42K respectively. For transient overpower accidents with the increase of beam intensity, the maximum temperature of the fuel and the cladding are below the safety limit. Concerning the reactivity insertion accident, it is found that the ADS has good inherent safety and its margin of criticality safety is large. The calculation results for loss of flow show that the power drop is small due to low sensitivity of the subcritical core to negative reactivity feedback, and the maximum temperature of the cladding reaches 1726K, which means the fuel element would rupture. However, the power and the temperatures of fuel, cladding, and coolant could decrease quickly to the safety level after the proton accelerator is cut off under a loss of flow accident. The results also show that the peak temperature of the cladding is lower than the safety limit under a loss of heat sink accident. The present simulation results reveal that the ADS has a remarkable advantage against severe accidents. It also implies that its inherent safety characteristics could ensure reactor shutdown by cutting off the proton beam after accidents occur.

The quality of traditional sunlight-dried orange black tea can be affected by weather variations, leading to its quality instability. This study investigated the feasibility of replacing sunlight drying with a new hot-air drying method in orange black tea production. The hot-air-dried orange black tea showed better sensory quality than the traditional outdoor-sunlight-dried tea, with a harmonious fruity aroma and sweet–mellow taste. The content of polyphenols and other quality components in the peel and tea leaves was significantly higher after hot-air drying than after sunlight drying. GC-MS analysis showed that the total number of volatile components of hot-air-dried tea (3103.46 μg/g) was higher than that of sunlight-dried tea (3019.19 μg/g). Compared with sunlight-dried orange black tea, the hot-air-dried orange black tea showed higher total antioxidant capacity, with an increase of 21.5% (FRAP), 7.5% (DPPH), and 17.4% (ABTS), as well as an increase of 38.1% and 36.3% in the inhibitory capacity on α-glucosidase and α-amylase activities. Further analysis of the effects of different drying temperatures (40, 45, 50, and 60 °C) on the quality of orange black tea showed that the tea quality gradually decreased with the increase in drying temperature, with the most obvious decrease in the quality of orange black tea at the drying temperature of 60 °C. Low-temperature (40 °C) dried tea had better aroma coordination, higher fruit flavor, greater sweet–mellow taste, and higher retention of functional active substances in orange peel and black tea. In summary, compared with traditional sunlight drying, the hot-air drying method could reduce the drying time from 90 h to 20 h and improve the sensory quality and functional activity of orange black tea, suggesting it can replace the traditional sunlight drying process. This work is significant for improving the quality of orange black tea in practical production.

Metal–organic framework (MOF) compounds are centered on metal ions or metal ion clusters, forming lattices with a highly ordered periodic porous network structure by connecting organic ligands. As MOFs have the advantages of high porosity, large specific surface area, controllable pore size, etc., they are widely used in gas storage, catalysis, adsorption, separation and other fields. SERS substrate based on MOFs can not only improve the sensitivity of SERS analysis but also solve the problem of easy aggregation of substrate nanoparticles. By combining MOFs with SERS, SERS performance is further improved, and tremendous research progress has been made in recent years. In this review, three methods of preparing MOF-based SERS substrates are introduced, and the latest applications of MOF-based SERS substrates in biosensors, the environment, gases and medical treatments are discussed. Finally, the current status and prospects of MOF-based SERS analysis are summarized.

Objectives. This study aimed to investigate the effect of hemocoagulase combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in total hip replacement (THR) on reducing bleeding and improving knee joint function in the patients with osteoarthritis. Methods. From February 2018 to February 2020, 80 osteoarthritis patients undergoing THR were included in the study, of which 40 cases were treated with PRP and hemocoagulase (test group) in the joint capsule in THR and the other 40 cases received saline and thrombin in the joint capsule after THR (control group). Postoperative drainage and corresponding functional exercise were performed for the two groups 12 hours after operation. The outcome measures including operation time, soft-tissue release, blood routine, drainage volume, perioperative blood loss, postoperative incision inflammation, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and range of motion (ROM) of the joint were recorded. Results. The hemoglobin and hematocrit values of the test group on the second postoperative day were significantly higher than those of the control group (P0.05). Conclusions. The application of hemocoagulase combined with PRP in THR can reduce perioperative blood loss, increase wound healing speed and quality, and improve coagulation and immune function. It is a safe and effective method for the patients with knee osteoarthritis who underwent THR.

Peach leaf orange dark tea (ODT) is a fruity tea made by removing the pulp from peach leaf orange and placing dry Qingzhuan tea into the husk, followed by fixing them together and drying. Since the quality of traditional outdoor sunlight fixing (SL) is affected by weather instability, this study explored the feasibility of two new fixing methods, including hot air fixing (HA) and steam fixing (ST). Results showed that fixing method had a great impact on ODT shape, aroma, and taste. Compared with SL and ST, HA endowed ODT with higher fruit aroma, mellow taste, better coordination, and higher sensory evaluation score. Physical–chemical composition analysis showed that SL-fixed orange peel was higher than HA- or ST-fixed peel in the content of polyphenols, flavonoids, soluble protein, hesperidin and limonin, while HA has a higher content of volatile substances and contains more alcohols, aldehydes and ketones, and acid and esters than ST and SL. Activity analysis showed that HA was superior to ST or SL in comprehensive antioxidant activity and inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase. Comprehensive results demonstrated that HA has better performance in improving ODT quality and can replace the traditional SL method in production.

Thiamethoxam, a nicotinic pesticide used worldwide, can cause great harm to the environment and even to human health, and aptamers, known as chemical antibodies, have high affinity and specificity for the target, as well as great potential in detecting small molecules such as pesticides. In this paper, we report a highly sensitive biosensor system for thiamethoxam residue detection based on aptamer technology. After 15 rounds of screening with the pressurized GO-SELEX technology, we found that the aptamer libraries of the 5th and 9th rounds showed high affinity by the capture method. Four candidate aptamers were obtained by high-throughput sequencing and secondary structure prediction. Among them, the aptamer named Thi-5R-18 from the 5th round was demonstrated to possess the highest affinity by isothermal titration calorimetry, with a dissociation constant (Kd) of 4.935 × 10−5 M. The results of molecular docking showed that thiamethoxam and Thi-5R-18 were combined with bases G-15, A-19, and T-71 through hydrogen bonding and π–π interaction.Thi-5R-18 was used as a recognition element to construct a AuNPs colorimetric aptasensor, achieving an ultralow detection limit of 0.37 nM. More importantly, this colorimetric aptasensor can be used for quantitative detection of thiamethoxam on tea leaves, with a recovery of 96.94%~105.86%. This study provides a highly sensitive biosensor for detection of thiamethoxam residue.

The detection of bifenthrin is closely related to the adsorption of SERS substrates. In this study, superparamagnetic Fe3O4@Au MNPs coated with GO were used to detect the adsorption and enrichment of bifenthrin molecules with benzene rings. Firstly, the thermal solvent method synthesized Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with a particle size of ~250 nm. Next, polyethylene imide (PEI) was used as an intermediate layer to modify the surface of Fe3O4 to form a positively charged ultra-thin polymer middle layer. Next, the gold shell was developed by adsorption of ~20 nm AuNPs, without affecting the magnetic properties. Then, the additional amount of colloidal gold and GO on SERS performance was systematically studied. Using crystal violet (CV) as the probe, we investigated the SERS performance of composite nanomaterials. The lowest detected concentration reached 10−8 mol/L, confirming that the composite functional material had good SERS activity and magnetic properties. Finally, the substrate was used to detect bifenthrin in an acetone solution, and the lowest detection concentration was 10−8 mol/L. These results showed that the prepared GO/Fe3O4@Au MNPs were efficient SERS substrates that could detect bifenthrin pesticide residue with high sensitivity.

To model the elastoplastic behaviors of frozen soils, a binary-medium-based constitutive model is developed and validated by a series of cryotriaxial compressive tests. In the framework of the proposed model, frozen soils are conceptualized to consist of structural blocks and weakened bands. Herein, the structural blocks are idealized as bonded elements with elastic-brittle deformational behaviors. Moreover, the weakened bands are conceptualized as frictional elements whose deformational characteristics are described by a nonlinear Duncan–Chang hyperbolic model. The bonded elements are found to gradually break up and transfer into frictional elements, which collectively contribute to the resistance capability against external loading. From the micro perspective and in the representative volume element (RVE) of the soil specimen, nonuniform strain distributions and particle slippage mechanisms are considered in the strain concentration coefficient and breakage ratio to formulate a constitutive model. Predictions are calibrated with available laboratory results, demonstrating that the proposed model can reasonably account for a breakage mechanism and can quantitatively simulate the nonlinear elastoplastic behavior of frozen soils. The oolong tea aroma is shown to consist of cultivar aroma and technical aroma in this study based on the aroma differences between oolong tea products of cultivars of different suitability, as determined by correlation analysis of olfactory, sensory, electronic nose, and GC-MS data. Human senses were significantly affected by the aroma components, which included eight terpene metabolites (β-Ocimene, (Z)-Furan linalool oxide, linalool, (3E)-4,8-Dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatriene, (E)-Pyranoid linalool oxide, γ-Elemene, Humulene, (Z,E)-α-Farnesene), three carotenoid metabolites (β-Ionone, (Z)-Geranylacetone and 6-methyl-5-Hepten -2-one), three lipid metabolites ((Z)-3-Hexenyl (Z)-3-hexenoate, Butanoic acid hexyl ester, and (Z)-Jasmone), four amino acid metabolites (Methyl salicylate, Geranyl isovalerate, indole, and Phenylethyl alcohol), and six thermal reaction products (2-Pentylfuran, Octanal, Decanal, (E,E)-2,4-Nonadienal, (Z)-2-Decenal, and (E)-2-Undecenal). Meanwhile, several aroma compounds (such as (E)-Nerolidol and α-Farnesene), mainly comprising the “technical aroma” formed in the processing mode, were noted to be less closely related to cultivar suitability. This study sheds light on the aroma characteristics of different tea cultivars for oolong tea processing.

With the rapid development of urban rail transit, the impact of the construction of large-scale deep and circular foundation pits (LDCFPs) on the surrounding environment has become increasingly prominent; however, there is no definite standard for the design theory and construction method of the retaining structure of LDCFPs; therefore, the such standard needs further research and exploration. The paper is based on the LDCFP engineering of a subway station in Wuhan, China. Two partitioned excavation methods (step-by-step and synchronous excavation) of LDCFP were discussed by numerical simulation; the deformation characteristics of the soil around the foundation pit, the lateral deformation of the retaining structure in each partitioned district, and the distribution of the supporting axial force were analyzed; the deformation law of LDCFP was revealed; and the safe and economic excavation method was determined. The field monitoring test was carried out to reveal the deformation characteristics and stress evolution behavior for the supporting structure of the LDCFP in the subway station. It was concluded that the construction method of synchronous partitioned excavation in the same layer is more conducive to controlling the overall deformation, with the deformation of the circular retaining structure being uniform and the “vault effect” of the circular retaining structure having a certain constraint on the deformation of the foundation pit. The research results can provide guidance for the design and construction of supporting engineering and similar engineering.

In the context of global warming, the increasing frequency of drought events has caused negative impacts on agricultural productivity and societal activities. However, the drought occurrences have not been well predicted by any single model, and precipitation may show nonstationary behavior. In this study, 60 years of monthly precipitation data from 1960 to 2019 for the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region were analyzed. The standard precipitation index (SPI) was used to classify drought events. This study combined the strengths of autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and complementary ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMD) to predict drought. First, based on the precipitation dataset, the SPI at timescales of 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 24 months was calculated. Then, each of these SPI time series was predicted using the ARIMA model and the CEEMD–ARIMA combined model. Finally, the models′ performance was compared using statistical metrics, namely, root-mean-square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), Kling–Gupta efficiency (KGE), Willmott index (WI), and Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE). The results show that the following: (1) Compared with the ARIMA forecast value, the prediction results of the CEEMD–ARIMA model were in good agreement with the SPI values, indicating that the combined model outperformed the single model. (2) Two different models obtained the lowest accuracy for the SPI1 prediction and the highest accuracy for the SPI24 prediction. (3) The CEEMD–ARIMA model achieved higher prediction accuracy than the ARIMA model at each time scale. The most precise model during the test phase was the CEEMD–ARIMA model at SPI24 at Xiji Station, with error measures of MAE = 0.076, RMSE = 0.100, NSE = 0.994, KGE = 0.993, and WI = 0.999. Such findings will be essential for government to make decisions.

This work presents a low insertion loss air-coupled ultrasonic transducer with a parallel laminated piezoelectric structure. The relevant parameters of this structure are theoretically analyzed. For overcoming the enormous acoustic impedance mismatch between the piezoelectric material and air, a 1–3 connectivity piezoelectric composite, and a stack of two low acoustic impedance matching layers are adopted. The experimental results show that the insertion loss of −17.5 dB is obtained under the pitch-catch mode with the length of the air column of 50 mm by selecting a suitable air-coupled ultrasonic transducer combination. The insertion loss improvement is 3.8 dB compared with a monolayer piezoelectric structure with an identical active area.

Compared with conventional high-specific-speed axial flow pump, better cavitation performance and compact size have been achieved in contra-rotating axial flow pump, where the rear rotor is employed additionally to the front rotor to convert the swirling flow to the pressure rise. Meanwhile, significantly deteriorated performance has also been observed at well off-design flow rates with design rotational speed. The rotational speed control (RSC) of front and rear rotors has been experimentally proved to be effective to enhance the performance. However, thorough investigations are necessary to find the optimum rotational speeds of rotors. It may be done by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, whereas it is time-consuming to cover the wide ranges of rotational speeds. Therefore, in the present paper, a fast and effective performance prediction model is established by considering radial equilibrium condition, conservation of rothalpy and mass, empirical deviation angle, bladerows interaction and empirical losses. Experimental and CFD results are employed to validate the proposed prediction model. It is found that the proposed model shows good enough accuracy in predicting performances of contra-rotating axial flow pump under RSC in broad flow rate range. Furthermore, an energy saving application of the proposed model is also illustrated for two typical system resistances. Compared with the traditional valve control under the design rotational speed operation, the RSC method can well modify the pump head to satisfy the system resistance at wide flow rate range with the significantly improved energy performance.

Tour route planning is hot research issue of smart tourism and tourism GIS. Reasonable tour route can help tourists get best motive benefit satisfaction. According to common tour route planning method and existing problems, smart tour route planning algorithm based on clustering center motive iteration search is brought forward in the study. Tourist sight data set and subset are set up and interest tourist sight empty vector is formed to store optimal interest tourist sight. Based on individual needs, tourist's temporary accommodation in the downtown is set as clustering center to build optimal tourist sight extracting algorithm. Motive iteration interval and sub-interval are defined to build one-way shortest path algorithm to output shortest path between clustering center and tourist sight and between two tourist sights. Combining with positive and negative motive benefit impact factors, sub motive iteration values and motive iteration values are formed by iteration functions. Then descending order complete binary tree is generated to output and store motive iteration values and the optimal closed-loop structure with tour route, meanwhile, sub-optimal closed-loop structures with tour routes are also output. Experiment is designed and performed, sample tourists are selected to provide interest needs, and optimal tourist sight generation tree, all closed-loop structures and motive iteration values are obtained. Experiment indicates that the algorithm can solve problems of common tour route planning, meet the individual needs of tourists and provide them with optimal tourist sights and route to get best motive benefits.

For gyratory compaction, the concept of the locking point was initially developed to identify the compactability of asphalt mixes and to alleviate potential aggregate crushing in the mold. Most previous studies on the locking point were based on specimens’ height change. Recent studies have indicated that the gyratory locking point of cold mix asphalt mixtures could be determined by the rotation angle range indicator using SmartRock. However, height or rotation angle change ultimately reflects a change in volume. Additionally, there is no clear physical and mechanical connection between the volume change and the gyratory locking point. In this paper, a stone mastic asphalt mixture (SMA 13) was selected for gyratory compaction applying various compaction temperatures. The compaction data were recorded by a SmartRock embedded in different positions. Collected data included stress, rotation angle, and acceleration. The major findings are as follows: (1) the specimen’s locking point could be determined based on a representative stress value when the SmartRock was embedded in the specimen’s center, and the results are close to the traditional evaluation results (LP3 or LP2-2-3); (2) the representative rotation angle value reached a plateau earlier than the representative stress value; (3) the representative acceleration value is not suitable for characterizing the interlocking process during gyratory compaction.

Finding an alternative or supplementary test method to evaluating the low temperature performance of asphalt is an area of considerable interest. This paper tries to explore the possibility of using the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) method for assessing the low temperature properties of styrenebutadienestyrene (SBS) modified asphalt. In the study, 60/80 and 80/100 pen grade asphalt binders, named binder A-70, binder B-70 and binder C-90, are used to produce the SBS modified asphalt samples. After that, the low temperature performance of the asphalt binders is characterized by using bending beam rheometer (BBR) test. The results indicate that the low temperature performance of the different binders is related to the source of the binder. The low temperature performance of asphalt could be improved with the addition of the SBS. The DSR test is used to develop the complex modulus master curves for binders. Based on the principle of time–temperature conversion, the glass transition temperature of asphalt is calculated by the Williams–Landel–Ferry (WLF) equation. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of base asphalt and the SBS modified asphalt are determined by the viscoelastic parameters of the master curve and the WLF equation coefficients based on the time–temperature superposition principle. By establishing the relationship between the critical temperature and the Tg of the asphalt binder, the effectiveness of the method established in this paper is verified. The advantage of this method is the ability to use the DSR test for the rapid evaluation of the low temperature performance of asphalt, which is able to reduce testing materials and save testing time as well. The glass transition temperature of the SBS modified asphalt is closely associated with aging degree, asphalt source and the SBS content.

Abstract We propose and theoretically investigate an efficient solar light absorber based on a multilayer structure consisting of tungsten nanoparticle layers and SiO2 layers. According to our calculation, average absorbance over 94% is achieved in the wavelength range between 400 and 2500 nm for the proposed absorber. The excellent performance of the absorber can be attributed to the localized surface plasmon resonance as well as the Fabry-Perot resonance among the metal-dielectric-metal layers. We compare the absorbing efficiency of tungsten nanosphere absorber with absorbers consisting of the other metal nanoparticles and conclude that iron can be an alternative material for tungsten in solar energy systems for its excellent absorbing performance and the similar optical properties as tungsten. Besides, a flat multilayer absorber is designed for comparison, and it is also proved to have a good absorbing performance for solar light.

In a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, the integrity of tristructural-isotropic-(TRISO-) coated fuel particles ensures the safety of the reactor, especially in case of an air-ingress accident. The oxidation of TRISO particles with the outer layers of silicon carbide (SiC) was performed at temperatures of 900°C–1400°C in air environment. Both the microstructure and phase composition of the SiC layers were studied. The results showed that the SiC layers had a good oxidation resistance below 1100°C. However, the amorphous silica on the SiC layers formed at 1200°C and gradually crystallized at 1400°C with the presence of microcracks. The reaction rates of the SiC layers were determined by measuring the silica thickness. It was proposed that the oxidation of the SiC layers followed the linear-parabolic law with the activation energy of 146 ± 5 kJ/mol. The rate-determining step of the oxidation was the diffusion of oxygen in silica.

Accurate forecast and simulation of near-surface wind is a great challenge for numerical weather prediction models due to the significant transient and intermittent nature of near-surface wind. Based on the analyses of the impact of assimilating in situ and Advanced Tiros Operational Vertical Sounder (ATOVS) satellite radiance data on the simulation of near-surface wind during a severe wind event, using the new generation mesoscale Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and its three-dimensional variational (3DVAR) data assimilation system, the dynamic downscaling of near-surface wind is further investigated by coupling the microscale California Meteorological (CALMET) model with the WRF and its 3DVAR system. Results indicate that assimilating in situ and ATOVS radiance observations strengthens the airflow across the Alataw valley and triggers the downward transport of momentum from the upper atmosphere in the downstream area of the valley in the initial conditions, thus improving near-surface wind simulations. Further investigations indicate that the CALMET model provides more refined microtopographic structures than the WRF model in the vicinity of the wind towers. Although using the CALMET model achieves the best simulation of near-surface wind through dynamic downscaling of the output from the WRF and its 3DVAR assimilation, the simulation improvements of near-surface wind speed are mainly within 1 m s−1. Specifically, the mean improvement proportions of near-surface wind speed are 64.8% for the whole simulation period, 58.7% for the severe wind period, 68.3% for the severe wind decay period, and 75.4% for the weak wind period. The observed near-surface wind directions in the weak wind conditions are better simulated in the coupled model with CALMET downscaling than in the WRF and its 3DVAR system. It is concluded that the simulation improvements of CALMET downscaling are distinct when near-surface winds are weak, and the downscaling effects are mainly manifested in the simulation of near-surface wind directions.

In sensor management for target tracking, the existing sensor selection methods based on information entropy generally select the sensor that brings the most information gain for target; however, for multi-dimension state vector of target, information gain for target in the specified dimension cannot be guaranteed. For the ambiguity problem in the measure for multi-dimension state vector using information entropy, this study proposes a sensor selection method based on single dimension information gain of the target, which uses particle filter to compute the marginal probability density of target state in the specified dimension and exploits the Kullback–Leibler divergence to measure the information gain of target in the specified dimension, in such a way, by selecting the sensor that brings the most information gain for target in the specified dimension. The proposed method can guarantee higher tracking accuracy gain of target in the specified dimension and obtain more reliable tracking results. Experiment results illustrate that the proposed method has a higher track accuracy of position and velocity in the specified dimension than sensor selection method based on target state entropy.

In the modern rapidly changing battlefield, the resources of multiple radars are usually limited for multiple objects multiple missions. Moreover, the amount of target information acquired by different radars at different time index is different. Thus, as to target tracking, it is important to reasonably and dynamically allocate radars’ resources. In the study, based on information theory, the entropy is utilised to quantitatively measure the amount of target information observed from multiple radars. Corresponding, the lower bound (LB) of the given entropy is also derived. The smaller the value of the entropy, the more accurate the estimate of target motion state is. So based on minimising the entropy LB of target information acquired from radars at different times, a new fusion tracking method is proposed to dynamically adaptively choose radars with high amount of target information for target tracking. The simulation results show that the proposed method has higher tracking accuracy than the fusion tracking without optimal choice of radars.

In this article, we consider the sensor selection problem of choosing T sensors from a set of m possible sensor measurements. The sensor selection problem is a combinational optimization problem. Evaluating the performance for each possible combination is impractical unless m and T are small. We relax the original selection problem to be a convex optimization problem and describe a projected gradient method with Barzilai–Borwein step size to solve the proposed relaxed problem. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm converges faster than some classical algorithms. The solution obtained by the proposed algorithm is closer to the truth.
