- Abstract
Modulating neural activity with electrical or chemical stimulus can be used for fundamental and applied research. Typically, neuronal stimulation is performed with intracellular and extracellular electrodes that deliver brief electrical pulses to neurons. However, alternative wireless methodologies based on functional materials may allow clinical translation of technologies to modulate neuronal function. Here, we show that the organic semiconducting oligomer 4-[2-{2,5-bis(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)thiophen-3-yl}ethoxy]butane-1-sulfonate (ETE-S) induces precise behaviors in the small invertebrate Hydra, which were dissected through pharmacological and electrophysiological approaches. ETE-S-induced behavioral response relies on the presence of head neurons and calcium ions and is prevented by drugs targeting ionotropic channels and muscle contraction. Moreover, ETE-S affects Hydras electrical activity enhancing the contraction burst frequency. The unexpected neuromodulatory function played by this conjugated oligomer on a simple nerve net opens intriguing research possibilities on fundamental chemical and physical phenomena behind organic bioelectronic interfaces for neuromodulation and on alternative methods that could catalyze a wide expansion of this rising technology for clinical applications., Funding Agencies|Air Force Office of Scientific Research [FA8655-22-1-7014]; European Research Council (ERC) under the European Unions Horizon 2020 research and innovation program "LINCE" [803621]; European Union (ERC-2021-STG, 4DPhytoHybrid) [101042148]; Swedish Government Strategic Research Area in Materials Science on Advanced Functional Materials at Linkoping University (Faculty Grant SFO-Mat-LiU) [2009-00971]

- Abstract
- Abstract
The current pandemic emergency has and continues to put the health of the whole human community at risk, radically modifying many aspects of our life, but has also underlined and amplified the fundamental need to reflect on and address issues that are of major importance in our fields of study. These include the right to peace, the right to education and care for our children and our young people, especially the most vulnerable, and the educational responsibility of all (institutions and families) towards the new generations. Therefore, starting from a re-reading, also in a critical key, of the use of the practices of self-reflection and self-awareness of the Eastern tradition in Western educational contexts (De Simone , 2018), we will try to investigate the possible dialogue with Bertinian “Problematicism” in order to explore its potential, especially in terms of the operational repercussions that go in the direction of an individual’s emancipation from all dogmatic knowledge as well as from the social and cultural constraints that contribute to a definition of their dispositional knowledge, rigidly oriented towards selfish and superficial closures. Specifically, we will try to investigate a mindfulness protocol, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Hayes et al., 1999), which works on different dimensions – acceptance, cognitive defusion, self as context, contact with the present, contact with values, committed action –, dimensions that seem interesting to re-read in a Problematicist key.

VALUES (Ethics) , *RELATIVITY , *PLURALISM - Abstract
Today, values represent, in the pedagogical field, a topic of enormous relevance, considering the axiological pluralism that characterizes our increasingly global and multicultural societies. The study of Enza Colicchi helps us to deepen this topos, fundamental for theoretical reflection, in the double side of epistemological structure and, I would say above all, of practical-directive legitimacy for every educational action. Through unprecedented formulations, therefore, we pass from legitimate, for educational practice, dogmatic-type legitimizations with 'finished' characteristics. The relativity of values requires, in fact, a pedagogical theory capable of posing a practical rather than a theoretical problem, a theory which has, in its very formulation, a dimension, never definitive or lowered from above and from outside, re-solutive. This paper aims to describe a pilot experience about teaching by competences that was carried out in a school. Particularly, the purpose of this experience with primary school pupils is to highlight the importance of the experiential teaching promoting global development of children. As a matter of fact, working in real and challenging situations shall facilitate meaningful learning with a strong social feature by linking responsibly every action to the real community as well as by teaching everyone to play his/her own part democratically and complying, inclusively, with their own ‘idiosyncratic generativity. No. 2 (2018): Working in the school as a complex organization

Abstract Background Integrins are heterodimeric receptors that play a critical role in cell-cell and cell-matrix adhesion processes. Among them, αVβ3 integrin, that recognizes the aminoacidic RGD triad, is reported to be involved in angiogenesis, tissue repair and tumor growth. We have recently synthesized a new and selective ligand of αVβ3 receptor, referred to as RGDechiHCit, that contains a cyclic RGD motif and two echistatin moieties. Methods The aim of this study is to evaluate in vitro and in vivo the effects of RGDechiHCit. Therefore, we assessed its properties in cellular (endothelial cells [EC], and vascular smooth muscle cells [VSMC]) and animal models (Wistar Kyoto rats and c57Bl/6 mice) of angiogenesis. Results In EC, but not VSMC, RGDechiHCit inhibits intracellular mitogenic signaling and cell proliferation. Furthermore, RGDechiHCit blocks the ability of EC to form tubes on Matrigel. In vivo, wound healing is delayed in presence of RGDechiHCit. Similarly, Matrigel plugs demonstrate an antiangiogenic effect of RGDechiHCit. Conclusions Our data indicate the importance of RGDechiHCit in the selective inhibition of endothelial αVβ3 integrin in vitro and in vivo. Such inhibition opens new fields of investigation on the mechanisms of angiogenesis, offering clinical implications for treatment of pathophysiological conditions such as cancer, proliferative retinopathy and inflammatory disease.

- Abstract
We successfully radiolabelled a novel prospective cannabinoid type 2 receptor ligand with
18 F and tested its biodistribution in animal models by positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) imaging. The radiolabelling process was conducted on an alkyl mesylate fragment of the main naphthyridine core, using highly efficient microfluidic technology. No preliminary protection was needed, and the product was purified by semi-prep HPLC and SPE formulation, allowing the desired diastereomeric mixture to be obtained in 29 % radiochemical yield and > 95 % radiochemically pure. SOD1G93A mice were used as model of overexpression of CB2 receptors; PET imaging revealed a significant increase of the tracer distribution volume in the brain of symptomatic subjects compared with the asymptomatic ones. A novel prospective CB2 receptor ligand has been labelled with18 F and tested in microPET imaging of SOD1 mouse models. Image analysis revealed a fast washout from brain regions. A significant increase of distribution volume was noticed between symptomatic and asymptomatic subjects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
In the last few years research has been undertaken on its possible use in training of adults in a formal learning context. Aim of the research presented was to describe, through the data essentially from a self-evaluation questionnaire, the way of a group of young students of the University of Naples Federico II who take part in a laboratory on mindfulness practices. The workshop was a structured programme inspired by the ACT and consisted of 6 two-hour classes as part of the course in pedagogy of learning processes and social pedagogy of the degree course in Psychology. The concluding discussion on the data that emerged highlighted the usefulness and importance of the experiential and reflective nature of the presented practices.

46. LA MINDFULNESS COME PRATICA FORMATIVA NEL CONTESTO UNIVERSITARIO

- Abstract

Background: Among professional psychologists distress and burnout are commonly reported and have implications for the quality of patient care. Already in the course of university studies, psychology students relate to mental distress and lower life satisfaction. The clinical efficacy of mindfulness has consistently been proved over the last two decades. A lot of studies, however, have been undertaken on its possible use in the adults training in a formal learning context. Methods: This pilot study aims to describe, through self-assessment tests with an assessment before and after the educational experience, the path of a group of young university Psychology Students, at University of Naples “Federico II”. The workshop was an inspired by the ACT structured program, and consisted of 6 sessions of two-hour as part of the course in the pedagogy of learning processes of the degree course in Psychology: among 50 students who participated in the workshops, 31 students completed the assessment, both the pre-test and post-test. Conclusions: The analysis of self-assessment questionnaires shows an improvement in all surveyed areas. The possible implications of the findings of this study regard the ability to use and promote the use of the techniques of mindfulness beyond the clinical setting as valuable tools for growth and development and above all within learning contexts. Particularly, the proposal to include a mindfulness protocol reflective practice in training programs in psychology is designed to provide skills to deal with the stressors of training, and through this experience of structured effective self-care, also improve longterm clinical skills of the future psychologists.
