An electronic circuit that tracks the phase of a sinusoidal signal and then ‘remembers’ the phase for a short time after the signal has collapsed to zero, is described. 3. Minimization of the common mode gain in differential amplifiers.

Abstract

The dependence of the common mode gain of differential amplifiers on the output impedance of the current source is investigated. It is shown that at zero frequency there exists a value of source resistance which causes the common mode gain to be zero. This critical value does not depend significantly on frequency, although at non-zero frequencies, the common mode gain will be greater than zero. Furthermore, it is shown that the differential amplifier need not be balanced. However, in case of an unbalanced circuit there exists for each of the output terminals a distinct critical value of source resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

7. Structural linguistics and word classes

Abstract

Do the words of a given language belong to different categories which may be called word classes? If so, are these categories of form, use (syntactic function) or meaning? The distinction of word classes is a distinction according to the meaning of word stems; the stem is the only or the most central morpheme of the word. Each language has a word class system of its own. To ascertain the word classes in a given language one has to start from morphology (i.e. from the morphological valence of word stems) and then supplement the result with an investigation of syntax (ie. of the syntactic use or valence of words). A word class system has a logical structure.
