In the strong-coupling regime, the interaction between light and matter reaches a hybridization state where the photonic and material components become inseparably linked. Using tailored states of light to break symmetries in such systems can underpin the development of novel non-equilibrium quantum materials. Chiral optical cavities offer a promising way for this, enabling either temporal or spatial symmetry-breaking, both of which are unachievable with conventional mirror cavities. For spatial symmetry-breaking a cavity needs to discriminate the handedness of circularly polarized light, a functionality that can only be achieved with metamaterials. Here, we suggest and demonstrate experimentally a chiral transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) metasurface with broken out-of-plane symmetry, allowing for a selective formation of self-hybridized exciton-polaritons with specific chirality. Our metasurface cavity maintains maximum chirality for oblique incidence up to 20{\deg}, significantly outperforming all previously known designs, thereby turning the angle of incidence from a constraint to a new degree of freedom for sub-nanometer precise control of resonance wavelengths. Moreover, we study the chiral strong-coupling regime in nonlinear experiments and show the polariton-driven nature of chiral third-harmonic generation. The recent development of deep learning (DL) methods for computer vision has been driven by the creation of open benchmark datasets on which new algorithms can be tested and compared with reproducible results. Although DL methods have many applications in geophysics, few real seismic datasets are available for benchmarking DL models, especially for denoising real data, which is one of the main problems in seismic data processing scenarios in the oil and gas industry. This article presents a benchmark dataset composed of synthetic seismic data corrupted with noise extracted from a filtering process implemented on real data. In this work, a comparison between two well-known DL-based denoising models is conducted on this dataset, which is proposed as a benchmark for accelerating the development of new solutions for seismic data denoising. This work also introduces a new evaluation metric that can capture small variations in model results. The results show that DL models are effective at denoising seismic data, but some issues remain to be solved.

We demonstrate the presence of multimode entanglement in the vacuum state of a free, massless scalar quantum field in four-dimensional flat spacetime between two sets of field modes, each contained within a spacetime region that is causally disconnected from the other. This is true despite the fact that entanglement between pairs of individual field modes is sparse and appears only when the two individual modes are carefully selected. Our results reveal that, while entanglement between individual modes is limited, bipartite multimode entanglement in quantum field theory is ubiquitous. We further argue that such multimode entanglement is operationally extractable, and it forms the basis of the entanglement commonly discussed in entanglement harvesting protocols., Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures

In the framework of Simpson-Visser, the search for field sources that produce black bounces in alternative gravity theories has remained unresolved. In this paper, the first in a series exploring sources for alternative theories of gravity, we identify such a source for the $2+1$ dimensional K-gravity black bounce. The K-gravity black hole is notable for allowing asymptotically locally flat solutions in lower-dimensional spacetime, yet it possesses curvature singularities concealed within the event horizon. Using the Simpson-Visser regularization technique, we eliminate this singularity, constructing asymptotically locally flat black-bounce solutions in $2+1$ dimensions. We explore the causal structure of these solutions, identifying the conditions under which they describe regular black holes or wormholes. By calculating curvature invariants, we confirm the absence of singularities within the event horizon. Additionally, we demonstrate that, beyond non-linear electrodynamics, a non-linear scalar field is required to source the solution. Finally, we investigate the geodesic structure of this spacetime, analyzing the trajectories of both massive and massless particles. In the present work, we obtain and analyze a new class of analytical solutions of magnetically charged black bounces in k-essence theory, spherically symmetric in (3+1)-dimensions, coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics (NED). We consider two metric models, Simpson-Visser and Bardeen, for the k-essence configurations n = 1/3 and n = 1/5. We obtain in an analytical way which scalar field, field potential, and Lagrangian NED are necessary to support the metrics. We analyze the behavior of these quantities and the energy conditions due to the scalar field and the NED.

In this work, we use the local spin Chern marker (LSCM) recently introduced by Ba\`{u} and Marrazzo [Phys. Rev. B 110, 054203 (2024)] to analyze the topology of the ground-state electronic wave functions in a finite honeycomb lattice flake described by three distinct models. The models considered here are characterized by strong Rashba spin-orbit interaction, which leads to non-conservation of the spin operator, i.e., $[\mathcal{H},\hat{s}_z]\neq 0$. The three spin-orbit couplings associated with the topological aspects of the models are: 1) Standard Kane-Mele coupling, 2) Sublattice-dependent Kane-Mele coupling, and 3) In-plane ($\hat{s}_y$) polarized Kane-Mele coupling. These couplings occur in graphene grown on suitable substrates and are relevant for modeling its van der Waals heterostructures. A particular topological phase diagram characterizes each of these spin-orbit interactions, and our calculations of LSCM successfully capture its general features. We also performed a detailed analysis of the spectral properties of the energy and valence-projected spin matrix eigenvalues, which shows that both exhibit a gap that protects the marker. Our results expand the applicability of the spin Chern number method to a class of Hamiltonians with experimental relevance and may contribute to future research on the real-space topology of realistic materials.

Photonics has been revolutionized by breakthroughs in optical metasurfaces and layered two-dimensional materials. Yet, integrating these two fields in a singular system has remained challenging. Here, we introduce the concept of van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure metasurfaces, where ultrathin multilayer vdW material stacks are shaped into precisely engineered resonant nanostructures for boosting light-matter interactions. By leveraging quasi-bound states in the continuum to create intrinsic cavities from WS$_2$ monolayers encapsulated in hexagonal boron nitride, we observe room-temperature strong coupling and polaritonic luminescence, which further unveils a saturation of the strong-coupling regime at ultralow fluences <1 nJ/cm2, more than three orders of magnitude smaller than in previous 2D-cavity systems. We studied the frequency and quality factor of mechanical plasmonic nanoresonators as a function of temperature, ranging from ambient to 4 K. Our investigation focused on individual gold nanorods and nanodisks of various sizes. We observed that oscillation frequencies increase linearly as temperature decreases until saturation is reached at cryogenic temperatures. This behavior is explained by the temperature dependence of the elastic modulus, with a Debye temperature compatible with reported bulk values for gold. To describe the behavior of the quality factor, we developed a model considering the nanostructures as anelastic solids, identifying a dissipation peak around 150 K due to a thermally activated process, likely of the Niblett-Wilks mechanism type. Importantly, our findings suggest that external dissipation factors are more critical to improving quality factors than internal friction, which can be increased by modifying the nanoresonator's environment. The three-body dissociation dynamics of the dicationic camphor molecule (C$_{10}$H$_{16}$O$^{2+}$) resulting from Auger decay are investigated using soft X-ray synchrotron radiation. A photoelectron-photoion-photoion coincidence (PEPIPICO) method, a combination of a velocity map imaging (VMI) spectrometer and a time-of-flight (ToF) spectrometer is employed to measure the 3D momenta of ions detected in coincidence. The ion mass spectra and the ion-ion coincidence map at photon energies of 287.9 eV (below the C 1s ionization potential) and 292.4 eV (above the C 1s ionization potential for skeletal carbon) reveal that fragmentation depends on the final dicationic state rather than the initial excitation. Using the native frame method, three new fragmentation channels are discussed; (1) CH$_2$CO$^+$ + C$_7$H$_{11}^+$ + CH$_3$, (2) CH$_3^+$ + C$_7$H$_{11}^+$ + CH$_2$CO, and (3) C$_2$H$_5^+$ + C$_6$H$_9^+$ + CH$_2$CO. The dominating nature of sequential decay with deferred charge separation is clearly evidenced in all three channels. The results are discussed based on the experimental angular distributions and momenta distributions, corroborated by geometry optimization of the ground, monocationic, and dicationic camphor molecule.

The magnetic moment of the muon can receive significant two-loop contributions from the scalar spectrum in Two Higgs Doublet Models (THDM), particularly for a light pseudoscalar. It is established that the symmetry breaking from $SU(3)_L \times U(1)_N$ to $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ generates an effective Type-III THDM, which invariably leads to flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) processes. In this study, we examine whether such an effective THDM framework can account for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, considering the constraints imposed by $B$-meson decays, meson mixing, and invisible Higgs decays. Our principal finding reveals that a pseudoscalar with a mass of 66 GeV and a $\tan \beta$ value of 58 can account for the $g-2$ anomaly without conflicting with existing experimental limits.

We investigated the existence of solutions for a class of Ambrosetti-Prodi type systems involving the fractional Laplacian operator and with nonlinearities reaching critical growth and interacting, in some sense, with the spectrum of the operator. In this work, the trajectories of particles around a black bounce spacetime are considered, with the Simpson-Visser model serving as an example. Trajectories for massless and massive particles are obtained through the study of null and time-like geodesics. As the Simpson-Visser solution is derived via the Einstein equations for a source involving nonlinear electrodynamics and a scalar field, photon trajectories are investigated by considering an effective metric in which photons follow null geodesics. The stability of circular orbits is analyzed by examining the behavior of maxima and minima of the effective potential associated with geodesics. It is also studied what type of geodesic photons follow when the usual metric is considered instead of the effective one. In this work we introduce scalar leptoquarks into the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos with the aim of solving the $(g-2)_{\mu}$ puzzle. We show that besides the model supports leptoquarks in the octet, sextet, triplet and singlet representations, we identified that only one specif leptoquark in the singlet representation leads to flip of chirality as required to generate positive and robust contribution to the $(g-2)_\mu$. Then we calculate its contributions to $(g-2)_\mu$ and to the decay process $\mu \rightarrow e \gamma$ and discuss the results., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures

One of the main issues in gravitation is the presence of singularities in the most common space-time solutions of General Relativity, as the case of black holes. A way of constructing regular solutions that remove spacelike singularities consists in implement a bounce on such space-time, leading to what is usually known as black bounce space-times. Such space-times are known to describe regular black holes or traversable wormholes. However, one of the main issues lies on reconstructing the appropriate source that leads to such a solution. In this paper, a reconstruction method is implemented to show that such types of metrics can be well accommodated in non-linear electrodynamics with the presence of a scalar field. Some of the most important black bounces solutions are reconstructed in this framework, both in 3+1 as in 2+1 dimensions. For the first time in the literature, these solutions have an electrically charged source of matter from non-linear electrodynamics. Dielectric metasurfaces supporting quasi-bound states in the continuum (qBICs) enable high field enhancement with narrow-linewidth resonances in the visible and near-infrared ranges. The resonance emerges when distorting the meta-atom's geometry away from a symmetry-protected BIC condition and, usually, a given design can sustain one or two of these states. In this work, we introduce a silicon-on-silica metasurface that simultaneously supports up to four qBIC resonances in the near-infrared region. This is achieved by combining multiple symmetry-breaking distortions on an elliptical cylinder array. By pumping two of these resonances, the nonlinear process of degenerate four-wave mixing is experimentally realized. By comparing the nonlinear response with that of an unpatterned silicon film, the near-field enhancement inside the nanostructured dielectric is revealed. The presented results demonstrate independent geometric control of multiple qBICs and their interaction trough wave mixing processes, opening new research pathways in nanophotonics, with potential applications in information multiplexing, multi-wavelength sensing and nonlinear imaging., Comment: 25 pages, 12 figures

Resonances are usually associated with finite systems - the vibrations of clamped strings in a guitar or the optical modes in a cavity defined by mirrors. In optics, resonances may be induced in infinite continuous media via periodic modulations of their optical properties. Here we demonstrate that periodic modulations of the permittivity of a featureless thin film can also act as a symmetry breaking mechanism, allowing the excitation of photonic $\textit{quasi}$-bound states in the continuum ($\textit{q}$BICs). By interfering two ultrashort laser pulses in the unbounded film, transient resonances can be tailored through different parameters of the pump beams. We show that the system offers resonances tunable in wavelength and quality-factor, and spectrally selective enhancement of third harmonic generation. Due to a fast decay of the permittivity asymmetry, we observe ultrafast dynamics, enabling time-selective near-field enhancement with picosecond precision. Optically-induced permittivity asymmetries may be exploited in on-demand weak to ultrastrong light-matter interaction regimes and light manipulation at dynamically chosen wavelengths in lithography-free metasurfaces.

In Atazadeh and Hadi (JCAP \textbf{01}, 067 (2024)), the authors proposed that black bounce solutions, such as the Simpson-Visser and the Bardeen-type spacetimes, can be obtained from Rastall gravity. To achieve these spacetimes, the authors consider the presence of a phantom scalar field with nonlinear electrodynamics. However, in this comment, we obtained different electromagnetic Lagrangians from the original work. The most problematic issue is not the incorrect expression of the electromagnetic Lagrangian itself. We show that the method obtains electromagnetic functions that are inconsistent. Helium nanodroplets ("HNDs") are widely used for forming tailor-made clusters and molecular complexes in a cold, transparent, and weakly-interacting matrix. Characterization of embedded species by mass spectrometry is often complicated by fragmentation and trapping of ions in the HNDs. Here, we systematically study fragment ion mass spectra of HND-aggregated water and oxygen clusters following their ionization by charge transfer ionization ("CTI") and Penning ionization ("PEI"). While the efficiency of PEI of embedded clusters is lower than for CTI by about factor 10, both the mean sizes of detected water clusters and the relative yields of unprotonated cluster ions are significantly larger, making PEI a ``soft ionization'' scheme. However, the tendency of ions to remain bound to HNDs leads to a reduced detection efficiency for large HNDs containing $>10^4$ helium atoms. These results are instrumental for determining optimal conditions for mass spectrometry and photoionization spectroscopy of molecular complexes and clusters aggregated in HNDs.

This work presents an unsupervised method for automatically constructing and expanding topic taxonomies using instruction-based fine-tuned LLMs (Large Language Models). We apply topic modeling and keyword extraction techniques to create initial topic taxonomies and LLMs to post-process the resulting terms and create a hierarchy. To expand an existing taxonomy with new terms, we use zero-shot prompting to find out where to add new nodes, which, to our knowledge, is the first work to present such an approach to taxonomy tasks. We use the resulting taxonomies to assign tags that characterize merchants from a retail bank dataset. To evaluate our work, we asked 12 volunteers to answer a two-part form in which we first assessed the quality of the taxonomies created and then the tags assigned to merchants based on that taxonomy. The evaluation revealed a coherence rate exceeding 90% for the chosen taxonomies. The taxonomies' expansion with LLMs also showed exciting results for parent node prediction, with an f1-score above 70% in our taxonomies.

This work proposes the Two-headed DragoNet, a Transformer-based model for hierarchical multi-label classification of financial transactions. Our model is based on a stack of Transformers encoder layers that generate contextual embeddings from two short textual descriptors (merchant name and business activity), followed by a Context Fusion layer and two output heads that classify transactions according to a hierarchical two-level taxonomy (macro and micro categories). Finally, our proposed Taxonomy-aware Attention Layer corrects predictions that break categorical hierarchy rules defined in the given taxonomy. Our proposal outperforms classical machine learning methods in experiments of macro-category classification by achieving an F1-score of 93\% on a card dataset and 95% on a current account dataset.

Metasurfaces have unlocked significant advancements across photonics, yet their efficient active control remains challenging. The active materials required often lack continuous tunability, exhibit inadequate refractive index (RI) changes, or suffer from high losses. These aspects pose an inherent limitation for resonance-shifting based switching: when RI changes are small, the resulting shift is also minor. Conversely, high RI changes typically come with high intrinsic losses necessitating broad modes because narrow ones cannot tolerate such losses. Therefore, larger spectral shifts are required to effectively detune the modes. This paper introduces a novel active metasurface approach that converts the constraint of high intrinsic losses into a beneficial feature. This is achieved by controlling the losses in a hybrid vanadium dioxide (VO$_{2}$) - silicon metasurface, supporting symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum (BICs) within the infrared spectrum. By leveraging the temperature-controlled losses in VO$_{2}$ and combining them with the inherent far-field-coupling tunability of BICs, we gain unprecedented precision in independently controlling both the radiative and nonradiative losses of the resonant system. Our dual-control mechanism allows us to optimize our metasurfaces and we experimentally demonstrate quality factors above 200, a maximum reflectance amplitude of 90%, a relative switching contrast of 78%, and continuous tuning from under- to over-coupling within the infrared spectral range. We study the protocol of entanglement harvesting when the particle detectors that harvest entanglement from the field are replaced by fully relativistic quantum field theories. We show that two localized modes of the quantum field theories are able to harvest the same amount of leading order entanglement as two non-relativistic particle detectors, thus implying that QFT probes can generally harvest more entanglement than particle detectors. Interatomic Coulombic decay (ICD) plays a crucial role in weakly bound complexes exposed to intense or high-energy radiation. So far, neutral or ionic atoms or molecules have been prepared in singly excited electron or hole states which can transfer energy to neighboring centers and cause ionization and radiation damage. Here we demonstrate that a doubly excited atom, despite its extremely short lifetime, can decay by ICD; evidenced by high-resolution photoelectron spectra of He nanodroplets excited to the 2s2p+ state. We find that ICD proceeds by relaxation into excited He$^*$He$^+$ atom-pair states, in agreement with calculations. The ability of inducing ICD by resonant excitation far above the single-ionization threshold opens opportunities for controlling radiation damage to a high degree of element specificity and spectral selectivity., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, to be submitted to PRL

Using the Schwinger-Keldysh path integral, we draw a connection between localized quantum field theories and more commonly used models of local probes in Relativistic Quantum Information (RQI). By integrating over and then tracing out the inaccessible modes of the localized field being used as a probe, we show that, at leading order in perturbation theory, the dynamics of any finite number of modes of the probe field is exactly that of a finite number of harmonic-oscillator Unruh-DeWitt (UDW) detectors. The equivalence is valid for a rather general class of input states of the probe-target field system, as well as for any arbitrary number of modes included as detectors. The path integral also provides a closed-form expression which gives us a systematic way of obtaining the corrections to the UDW model at higher orders in perturbation theory due to the existence of the additional modes that have been traced out. This approach vindicates and extends a recently proposed bridge between detector-based and field-theory-based measurement frameworks for quantum field theory [T. R. Image-based depth estimation has gained significant attention in recent research on computer vision for autonomous vehicles in intelligent transportation systems. This focus stems from its cost-effectiveness and wide range of potential applications. Unlike binocular depth estimation methods that require two fixed cameras, monocular depth estimation methods only rely on a single camera, making them highly versatile. While state-of-the-art approaches for this task leverage self-supervised learning of deep neural networks in conjunction with tasks like pose estimation and semantic segmentation, none of them have explored the combination of federated learning and self-supervision to train models using unlabeled and private data captured by autonomous vehicles. The utilization of federated learning offers notable benefits, including enhanced privacy protection, reduced network consumption, and improved resilience to connectivity issues. To address this gap, we propose FedSCDepth, a novel method that combines federated learning and deep self-supervision to enable the learning of monocular depth estimators with comparable effectiveness and superior efficiency compared to the current state-of-the-art methods. Our evaluation experiments conducted on Eigen's Split of the KITTI dataset demonstrate that our proposed method achieves near state-of-the-art performance, with a test loss below 0.13 and requiring, on average, only 1.5k training steps and up to 0.415 GB of weight data transfer per autonomous vehicle on each round., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures, journal preprint

We present a general construction of a geometric notion of circuit complexity for Gaussian states (both bosonic and fermionic) in terms of Riemannian geometry. We lay out general conditions that a Riemannian metric function on the space of Gaussian states should satisfy in order for it to yield a physically reasonable measure of complexity. This general formalism can naturally accommodate modifications to complexity geometries that arise from cost functions that depend nontrivially on the instantaneous state and on the direction on circuit space at each point. We explore these modifications and, as a particular case, we show how to account for time-reversal symmetry breaking in measures of complexity, which is often natural from an experimental (and thermodynamical) perspective, but is absent in commonly studied complexity measures. This establishes a first step towards building a quantitative, geometric notion of complexity that faithfully mimics what is experienced as "easy" or "hard" to implement in a lab from a physically motivated point of view., Comment: 17 pages, 1 figure. In this work, we investigate the physical aspects of the inflection-point inflation scenario and assess its observational viability in light of current Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) data. The model we consider encapsulates the inflaton with a pseudo-scalar (the dark matter candidate) in a complex neutral scalar singlet. The cosmological constraints on the parameters of inflation derived at a high energy scale are translated to a low energy scale by running these parameters. Ensuring the entire Lagrangian to be invariant under a $Z_3$ symmetry with the adequate transformation of the fields, the imaginary part of the singlet decouples from the other scalars of the model. We then investigate if the observational viability of inflation is also compatible with this pseudo-scalar being the dark matter component.We show that the CMB constraints on the inflationary parameters assure that the pseudo-scalar is stable and provides the correct relic dark matter abundance only when the pseudo-scalar is thermally produced., Comment: This manuscript contains 17 pages, 17 figures and 3 tables.
