BackgroundsCollagen type I alpha 1 chain (COL1A1) is a key protein encoding fibrillar collagen, playing a crucial role in the tumor microenvironment (TME) due to its complex functions and close association with tumor invasiveness. This has made COL1A1 a focal point in cancer biology research. However, studies investigating the relationship between COL1A1 expression levels and clinical characteristics of ovarian cancer (OC) remain limited.MethodsThis study integrated resources from publicly available online databases and immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques to analyze and validate COL1A1 expression in OC tissues, and evaluated its potential association with clinical features in OC patients. The prognostic value of COL1A1 was assessed using Kaplan-Meier (KM) survival curve analysis. The TIMER and TISIDB databases to explore the potential relationship between COL1A1 expression and immune microenvironment in OC tissues. The LinkedOmics and INPUT2 databases were used to analyze differential gene expression in OC, This was followed by enrichment analysis using the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Gene Ontology (GO) annotations to identify and predict potential signaling pathways associated with COL1A1.ResultsOur study demonstrated that COL1A1 expression was significantly elevated in OC tissues compared to normal ovarian tissues. This elevated expression was closely associated with tumor metastasis, poor prognosis, and advanced pathological stages in OC patients. Moreover, COL1A1 expression showed a significant correlation with immune cell infiltration and the expression of immune-related genes within the TME.Further analyses revealed that COL1A1 and its co-expressed genes were primarily enriched in key signaling pathways involved in OC invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis, indicating its potential role in driving OC progression.ConclusionsOur study found that upregulation of COL1A1 expression is significantly associated with lymph node metastasis of OC and can affect the immune microenvironment. Based on this, COL1A1 could serve as a promising biomarker for OC prognosis and provide a new perspective for the development of potential immunotherapies for patients with OC.

Background: Multiple hypertension guidelines recommend out-of-office measurements for the diagnosis of hypertension in non-pregnant adults, whereas pregnancy guidelines recommend in-office blood pressure measurements. The objective of our study was to determine how Canadian Obstetric Medicine and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists measure blood pressure in pregnancy. Methods: An email survey was sent to 69 Canadian Obstetric Medicine and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists in academic centers across Canada to explore the practice patterns of blood pressure measurement in pregnant women. Results: The response rate was 48%. The majority of respondents (63.6%) preferred office blood pressure measurement for diagnosing hypertension, but relied on home blood pressure readings for ongoing monitoring and management of hypertension during pregnancy (59.4%). The preferred method of out-of-office blood pressure measurement was home monitoring; 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring was not used due to limited availability and cost. The microstructure and mechanical properties of rod-shaped samples (measuring 11.8 mm in diameter and 35 mm in length) of commercially pure (CP) copper were characterized after they were processed by high pressure torsion extrusion (HPTE). During HPTE, CP copper was subjected to extremely high strains, ranging from 5.2 at central area of the sample to 22.4 at its edge. This high but varying strain across the sample section resulted in HPTE copper displaying a gradient structure, consisting of fine grains in the central area and of ultrafine grains both in the middle-radius area and at the sample edge. A detailed analysis of the tensile characteristics showed that the strength of HPTE copper with its gradient structure is similar to that of copper after severe plastic deformation (SPD) techniques, typically displaying a homogeneous structure. Detailed analysis of the contributions of various strengthening mechanisms to the overall strength of HPTE coper revealed the following: The main contribution comes from Hall−Petch strengthening due to the presence of high and low angle grain boundaries in gradient structure, which act as effective obstacles to dislocation motion. Therefore, both types of boundaries should be taken into account in the Hall−Petch equation. This study on CP copper demonstrated the potential of using the HPTE method for producing high-strength metallic materials in bulk form for industrial use.
