The rising cost of higher education has led parents, employers, and politicians to question the need for a college degree. Skills Infusion is a professional development program in which faculty review a course they teach to identify the career readiness competencies defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). The NACE competencies are skills that are expected by employers across all sectors of the economy. In addition to describing the Skills Infusion program, a description of how an information technology undergraduate program is expanding on the program to incorporate skills mapping to provide further evidence of accountability in higher education.

This research study describes the correlations between student performance and examination format in a higher education teaching and research institution. The researchers employed a quantitative, correlational methodology utilizing linear regression analysis. The data was obtained from undergraduate student test scores over a three-year time span. The purpose of this study was to investigate the predictive relationships between standardized examinations and practical examinations. The data consists of 247 undergraduate students' test scores spanning three academic years. Computer Technology students were assigned to take a standard midterm exam as well as a practical exam. The result of the analysis demonstrates that standardized examination scores are not predictors of practical examination scores and may well be testing different skill sets.

Many skills are needed to be a successful CTE teacher. A simple search of readily available online databases finds that classroom management is one of the most critical skills teachers need. Classroom management involves creating a learning environment that keeps CTE students safe and focused on learning tasks. Thus, the purpose of this paper is multiple-fold: (1) to provide an overview of selected classroom management literature, (2) to offer CTE teachers a menu of strategies for possible use in their respective educational settings, and (3) to share classroom management insights of an educator with extensive CTE teaching and administrative experience in public K-12 schools. This project, The Machine Wisdom Project, aims to develop a framework for defining and enhancing practical wisdom in human-machine interactions. The notion of practical wisdom highlights both (1) the current limitations in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems (AI/ML) and (2) the dangers entailed when humans must make real-time adjustments to AI/ML systems with only a partial understanding of how they work. The Machine Wisdom Project envisages strategies for mitigating both (1) and (2) that recognize the lack of self-awareness in current and foreseeable AI/ML technologies and the need to promote designs that make those limitations apparent. Feedback loops between the actions of people and artificially intelligent machines constitute socio-technical systems with the potential to alter (positively and negatively) the capacity of individuals to act ethically. The project researchers seek to deliver principles and recommendations for the design of socio-technical systems that minimize the likelihood that people adapt to the rigid incomprehension of machines in ways that restrict their ethical autonomy and responsibility, that minimize the potential for bad actors to exploit these limitations, and that improve the capacity of individuals to act ethically within the socio-technical system. The NSF-funded CareDEX Team, in conjunction with a partner Senior Living Community (SLC), University of California Irvine student volunteers, and several local First Responder agencies, conducted a disaster response exercise and experiment. In this study, the participating volunteer students were surveyed regarding their drill experience and the efficacy of that experience related to their chosen career path. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of this questionnaire data is presented. The results of the experiment and coded response data indicate that the participants, overall, viewed the exercise as a positive learning and career experience; specifically, they noted gaining an appreciation for the challenges older adults face with technology use and disaster response. The section about TikTok will show how TikTok got to be a huge sensation in the social media realm in recent years. Then, the section about trends and challenges will highlight how trends and challenges on TikTok work and how they gain popularity. The next section is about injury and risk highlights the different types of dangerous challenges that have been popular in the past and how they have caused serious injuries and unfortunately in some cases death to young children. Lastly, the final section will go over what motivates and influences young adults to participate in dangerous social media challenges. he NSF-funded CareDEX Team, in conjunction with a partner Senior Living Community (SLC) and several local first responder agencies, conducted a disaster response tabletop exercise and experiment. The research methodology utilized at this event was the SAGAT methodology. The exercise scenario consisted of a wildfire in Anaheim Hills California with concomitant smoke and poor air quality. A quantitative analysis of the SAGAT data is presented. The results of the experiment indicate the CareDEX technology does provide situational awareness to first responders and this disruptive technology impacts decision-making in all experimental groups while maintaining residents’ privacy and data security. This paper describes the collaborative effort between privacy and security researchers at nine different institutions along with researchers at the Naval Information Warfare Center to deploy, test, and demonstrate privacy-preserving technologies in creating sensor-based awareness using the Internet of Things (IoT) aboard naval vessels in the context of the US Navy's Trident Warrior 2019 exercise. Funded by DARPA through the Brandeis program, the team built an integrated IoT data management middleware, entitled TIPPERS, that supports privacy by design and integrates a variety of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs), including differential privacy, computation on encrypted data, and fine-grained policies. We describe the architecture of TIPPERS and its use in creating a smart ship that offers IoT-enabled services such as occupancy analysis, fall detection, detection of unauthorized access to spaces, and other situational awareness scenarios. We describe the privacy implications of creating IoT spaces that collect data that might include individuals' data (e.g., location) and analyze the tradeoff between privacy and utility of the supported PETs in this context.
