Feminist literary critics have long focused on the female gender role in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. This essay turns instead to the role of fatherhood in Frankenstein. This has been achieved by applying Judith Butler’s feminist theory, the Theory of Performativity, and by examining the different examples of fatherhood in the novel, performing a comparative study whilst applying a historical context. The main point of focus has been to compare the effects, of the existing types of fatherhood in the novel, on family and society, using the Theory of Performativity. This has resulted in the understanding that Frankenstein gives much consideration to the constituents of fatherhood which may represent the most immediate threat to the family as a building block, to the happiness of children, and the improvement of society.

Introduction: The Practical Approach to Care Kit (PACK) is a comprehensive clinical practice guideline created to qualify health professionals at primary care level. The objective of this research is to present the formative study of the initial implementation of the PACK in Brazil. Methodological Path: Qualitative study that used in-depth interviews, questionnaires and focus groups with the trainers responsible for introducing the PACK in the local health clinics. To analyse the data, a thematic matrix technique was used. Results: Four in-depth interviews were conducted; 22 trainers answered the questionnaires and 15 trainers participated in two focus groups. Four themes were identified: 1. Expectations / Feelings regarding the PACK and its training; 2. Use of the PACK; 3. After the PACK; 4. Suggestions. Final Considerations: Participants were very enthusiastic about the implementation of the PACK. Some effects of the training on health professionals were noted in relation to the use of the protocol, such as: it appears to have been more widely used by doctors and nurses, who are not only accustomed to the routine of teaching and research, but who often have a close professional relationship. In addition, the results of this study highlighted important issues that need to be explored in order to understand the implementation of the PACK, such as factors related to behaviour change in individual clinical practice and care sharing.

Avaliar o consumo alimentar de crianças é um desafio na área de epidemiologia nutricional. A utilização do computador para administrar questionários de avaliação dietética tem se mostrado promissor, devido a sua variedade de recursos interativos que despertam a atenção das crianças. Ao mesmo tempo é um recurso atrativo para pesquisadores pelas vantagens que oferece como padronização da entrevista e coleta rápida das informações. Esta tese teve como fio condutor o estudo de validade de um questionário on-line de avaliação do consumo alimentar de escolares (Sistema de Monitoramento do Consumo Alimentar e Atividade Física de Escolares - CAAFE). Foram realizadas pesquisas quali-quantitativas relacionadas ao instrumento CAAFE de forma a investigar a validação de conteúdo, validação externa e reprodutibilidade e de processos de resposta do questionário. Objetivo: Realizar um estudo de validação de um questionário on-line de monitoramento de consumo alimentar de crianças de 7 a 10 anos. Métodos: A pesquisa desta tese envolveu 3 etapas (etapa 1, etapa 2 e etapa 3). Na etapa inicial (etapa 1), que aconteceu antes do desenvolvimento do CAAFE, buscou-se a validade de conteúdo do questionário por meio da metodologia de grupos focais. Os grupos foram compostos por nutricionistas. Uma vez pronto o questionário CAAFE (etapa 2), foi conduzido o estudo de validação absoluta, com escolares do 2o ao 5o ano de 5 escolas públicas da cidade de Florianópolis (SC). Nesta etapa, foi utilizado o método de observação direta como método de referência para as respostas fornecidas pelas crianças no CAAFE. Juntamente com o estudo de validação absoluta, realizou-se o estudo de reprodutibilidade. Neste estudo, a metodologia envolveu duas administrações do questionário, com intervalo médio de 2,5 horas entre uma aplicação e outra. Foram coletadas nesta etapa variáveis sociodemográficas, de acesso à tecnologia digital das crianças e de suas famílias, e de preenchimento de um diário alimentar. Finalmente, na etapa 3, para a validação de conteúdo e de processos de resposta foi utilizado o método de entrevistas cognitivas. As entrevistas aconteceram com escolares do 2o ao 5o ano. Para a análise dos grupos focais e entrevistas cognitivas, foi utilizada a técnica da matriz temática. Para análise dos dados de validade absoluta, foi utilizada a regressão de Poisson. Para a análise dos dados de reprodutibilidade, teste ANOVA com medidas repetidas e regressão de Poisson para calcular a razão das taxas entre a segunda e a primeira aplicação do questionário, com respectivo intervalo de confiança de 95%. Resultados: Os grupos focaiscom nutricionistas (n=24) mostraram a necessidade de inclusão no questionário de alimentos do cardápio escolar, e de alimentos marcadores de uma alimentação não saudável comumente consumidos pelas crianças (macarrão instantâneo, bolacha recheada e salsicha) assim como de uma escala hedônica para avaliação sensorial da alimentação escolar. O estudo de validação absoluta foi realizado com 602 crianças (média (DP) de 9,5 anos (1,24 anos); 53,6% de meninos]. Em média, houve 43% de concordância, 29% e 28% de intrusões e omissões, respectivamente. Crianças com mais de 8 anos de idade, que possuíam computador e preencheram o diário alimentar, tiveram melhor desempenho no CAAFE. 553 escolares participaram do estudo de reprodutibilidade (média de idade (média (DP) de 9,3 (1,24 anos); 52,2% meninos). A maioria dos grupos alimentares presentes no CAAFE apresentaram reprodutibilidade moderada, apenas bebidas açucaradas, ovos e laticínios demonstraram reprodutibilidade intermediária. As entrevistas cognitivas (n=40) mostraram que a estruturação do CAAFE (6 refeições diárias) não foi totalmente compreendida pelas crianças. O processo de resposta no CAAFE das crianças entrevistadas mostrou que, a escolha de imagens que ilustram preparações e alimentos com complementos (i. e. pão com geleia), foi uma tarefa complexa para as crianças mais jovens (7-8 anos). Sugestões de melhoria foram feitas pelas crianças como questões relacionadas a terminologia e opções de figuras de alimentos. Conclusões: Os estudos de validação conduzidos mostraram que o CAAFE pode ser um instrumento válido de monitoramento do consumo alimentar de crianças no ambiente escolar. O instrumento apresentou validade semelhante a outros que utilizam o computador com crianças. O aprimoramento da ferramenta com base nas sugestões das crianças durante as entrevistas cognitivas pode ser um ponto de partida para melhorar ainda mais a validade do questionário. Abstract : Introduction: Assessing the dietary intake of children represents an important challenge in the field of nutritional epidemiology. The use of computers to administer dietary assessment questionnaires has shown potential, particularly due to the variety of interactive features that can attract and sustain children?s attention. In addition, computers offer significant advantages for researchers, such as the standardization of interview and the rapid collection of information. The main objective of this thesis was to study the validity of an online questionnaire for assessing the food consumption of schoolchildren (System for Assessing Food Consumption and Physical Activity of Schoolchildren - CAAFE). Objective: Conduct a validation study of an online questionnaire for assessing the food intake of children aged 7-10 years. Methods: Qualitative and quantitative research has been carried out related to the CAAFE in order to investigate the content validation, external validity and response processes of the questionnaire. The research for this thesis comprised three stages (stages 1, 2 and 3). Stage 1, which took place before the development of the CAAFE, sought to validate the questionnaire content using the methodology of focus group discussions composed of nutritionists. Once the CAAFE questionnaire was ready (stage 2), the absolute validation study was conducted with students from second to fifth grades at 5 public schools in the city of Florianópolis (SC). At this stage, the method of direct observation was used as the reference for the answers provided by the children in the CAAFE. In conjunction with the absolute validation study, a repeatability study was conducted, which included two administrations of the questionnaire with a mean interval of 2.5 hours between one application and the other. At this stage data was collected related to socio-demographic variables, access to digital technology of children and their families, and the completion of a food journal. Finally, in stage 3, for the validation of content and response processes the method of cognitive interviews was used. The interviews took place with students from second to fifth grades. For the analysis of the focus groups and cognitive interviews, the technique of thematic matrix was employed. For analysis of the absolute validity of data, Poisson regression was used. To analyze the reliability of data, ANOVA with repeated measures and Poisson regression were used to calculate the rates between the second and the first application of the questionnaire (confidence interval of 95%). Results: The focus group discussions with nutritionists (n = 24) revealed the necessity of including in the questionnaire foods from theschool menu and markers of an unhealthy diet commonly consumed by children (eg: instant noodles, cookies, sausages), as well as a point hedonic scale for the sensory evaluation of school meals. The absolute validation study was conducted with 602 children (mean (SD) 9.5 years (1.24 years); 53.6% of children]. On average there was 43% agreement, 29% intrusions and 28% omissions. Children over the age of 8 years who had a computer and who had completed the food diary performed better in the CAAFE. 553 students participated in the repeatability study (mean (SD) 9.3 (1.24 years); 52.2% boys). Most food groups present in the CAAFE had moderate reliability; only sugary drinks, eggs and dairy products showed intermediate reliability. Cognitive interviews (n = 40) showed that the structure of the CAAFE (6 meals a day) was not always fully understood by children. The response process of the children interviewed showed that the choice of images illustrating preparations and foods eaten with bread (eg. bread with jam), represents a relatively complex task for younger children (7-8 years). Suggestions for improving the questionnaire were made by children, particularly related to terminology and options for food images. Conclusions: The validation studies conducted showed that the CAAFE could be a valid instrument for assessing the food intake of children in the school environment.The questionnaire presented validity similar to others which use computers with children. The suggestions for improving the questionnaire made by children during cognitive interviews could be a starting point for further improving the reliability of the questionnaire.
