The books, "Eu posso ser ... o que eu quiser ser" and "Clube da Alegria," are the fruits of the extension project, BUILDING ONE’S OWN HISTORY: racism and representativeness of the black child in children's literature, with the promotion of the Program of Scholarships to Support Culture and Art - PROCARTE, whose registration number is 026.2.035-2017. The first book, tells the story of a black child who wanted to be a princess, but who in the face of the image and idealized behaviors of this figure, historically charged with stereotypes, is distressed to realize that his dream does not "fit" into the myth. The story was designed to be worked in a school of early childhood education, in this case, the CMEI of Bela Vista, located in a peripheral district of the city of Diamantina. The story was presented and told to the children of the five years of this institution, who, based on the questions asked by the main character of the book, were instigated to build their own story.

Abstract Background Chemoprevention crossover trials of tea can be more efficient than parallel designs but the attrition and compliance rates with such trials are unknown. Methods Attrition (dropouts) and compliance with treatment were assessed in a 25-week randomized, placebo controlled, crossover, feasibility clinical trial of four tea treatments to investigate the effect of tea on oral cancer biomarkers. Each treatment lasted 4 weeks with 2 weeks of washout in between. Participants were 32 smokers and 33 non-smokers without any evidence of premalignant oral lesions. The interventions consisted of packets of green tea, black tea, caffeinated water, or placebo. Participants were assigned to each treatment for four weeks, and were instructed to drink five packets per day while on the treatment. Dropout from the trial and compliance (consumption of ≥ 85% of the prescribed treatment packets) are the main outcome measures reported. Results There was a high rate of dropout (51%) from the study, and the rates were significantly higher among smokers (64%) than non-smokers (36%). Among participants who completed the study the rate of compliance was 72%. The highest rates of dropouts occurred between the first and second treatment visits in both smokers (38% dropout) and non-smokers (18% dropout). Throughout the study smokers were more likely to dropout than non-smokers. Black tea treatment was associated with the highest rates of dropout among smokers (37%), but was associated with the lowest rate of dropout among non-smokers (4%). Conclusions In a study conducted to test the feasibility of a four-treatment crossover tea trial, a high rate of dropout among smokers and non-smokers was observed. Multi-arm crossover tea trials might pose a higher burden on participants and research is needed to improve adherence and treatment compliance in such trials. Abstract Introduction This is the first case report of Mirizzi syndrome associated with hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm. Case presentation A 54-year-old man presented with painful obstructive jaundice and weight loss. Computed tomography showed a hilar mass in the liver. Following an episode of haemobilia, angiography demonstrated a pseudoaneurysm of a branch of the right hepatic artery that was embolised. At surgery, a gallstone causing Mirizzi type II syndrome was found to be responsible for the biliary obstruction and a necrotic inflammatory mass and haematoma were found to be extending into the liver. The mass was debrided and drained, the obstructing stones removed and the bile duct drained with a t-tube. The patient made a full recovery. Conclusion This case highlights another situation where there may be difficulty in differentiating Mirizzi syndrome from biliary tract cancer.

Background Endometriosis can occur in unusual sites, liver involvement being first described in 1986. Extra-uterine malignant transformation in endometriosis has been reported, occurring mainly in the ovary. Liver involvement with endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) has not been previously reported. Case outline Two patients presenting with symptomatic liver masses related to endometriosis, who successfully underwent surgical intervention, are presented. Case 1 A 31-year-old woman previously had been treated with hysterectomy and bilateral salpingooophorectomy for severe pelvic endometriosis. Six years later, she presented with malaise from bilobar liver involvement with endome trial deposits. She proceeded acutely to hilar obstruction with obstructive jaundice and portal vein thrombosis. Case 2 A 59-year-old post-menopausal woman had earlier presented acutely from a ruptured mesenteric cyst, which showed features of endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS). Two years later,she presented with symptoms from a large ESS occupying the right lobe. Discussion Endometriosis per se, as well as malignant transformation into ESS can involve the liver.These should be considered in women with hepatic space occupying lesions of unknown aetilogy. Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) has a complex relationship with pancreatic cancer. This study examines the impact of preoperative DM, both recent-onset and pre-existing, on long-term outcomes following pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC)., Methods: Data were extracted from the Recurrence After Whipple's (RAW) study, a multi-centre cohort of PD for pancreatic head malignancy (2012-2015). Recurrence and five-year survival rates of patients with DM were compared to those without, and subgroup analysis performed to compare patients with recent-onset DM (less than one year) to patients with established DM., Results: Out of 758 patients included, 187 (24.7%) had DM, of whom, 47 of the 187 (25.1%) had recent-onset DM. There was no difference in the rate of postoperative pancreatic fistula (DM: 5.9% vs no DM 9.8%; p = 0.11), five-year survival (DM: 24.1% vs no DM: 22.9%; p = 0.77) or five-year recurrence (DM: 71.7% vs no DM: 67.4%; p = 0.32). There was also no difference between patients with recent-onset DM and patients with established DM in postoperative outcomes, recurrence, or survival., Conclusion: We found no difference in five-year recurrence and survival between diabetic patients and those without diabetes.
