Both the method of bootstrap analysis and the presentation of data in behavioral tests are suggested to transcribe preference choice and/or multiple choices, with the study of preferences of the Egyptian fruit bat pup (Rousettus aegyptiacus) serving as an example. The use of the bootstrap method allows for the reliability of a given result from poor data to be evaluated. A new method of visualization proposed allows us to present data clearly with a complex choice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SLIDING friction ,ELECTRONIC data processing ,PROCESS capability ,FRICTION ,SIGNAL-to-noise ratio - Abstract
In this work, an approach towards automated extraction and evaluation of static and kinematic coefficients of friction is presented. By replacing manual evaluation with an automated process, this approach yields promising results, simplifies data handling, and saves significant time. The methodology shows potential for application to a wide range of experimental data and provides advanced processing capabilities using the extracted and mathematically evaluated data points. However, for data with high signal-to-noise ratios, automatic detection still requires further optimization to improve accuracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Theoretical background: Undoubtedly, forecasting share prices is a non-trivial task. However, thanks to the rapid development of science, in recent years, more and more research work has been devoted to the prediction of stock market prices, thanks to which it is becoming more accessible and easier to forecast, among other things, share prices using a variety of methods, including machine learning and deep learning in particular. In the age of big data, deep learning used to predict prices and stock trends has become even more popular than before. At the same time, attempts are made to develop solutions similar to the method of analyzing stock market data by humans, i.e., data analysis presented in the form of charts. Therefore, it is worth taking a closer look at the possibilities of discovering patterns in stock charts by convolutional neural networks. Purpose of the article: The adopted research hypothesis says that convolutional neural networks can potentially analyze stock data. The study aims to use a machine learning method, a convolutional neural network, to analyze stock market charts. For this purpose, a convolutional neural network will be built and programmed, which will be able to recognize relevant information based on previously prepared images constituting simplified stock charts. Research methods: The study used the method of deep machine learning, including convolutional neural networks, which are characterized, among others, by the ability to process and analyze graphical data. In particular, the TensorFlow library was used with Keras functions, which have implemented algorithms of convolutional neural networks. Main findings: The conducted research experiment showed high efficiency (close to 100%) of the adopted algorithm and the proposed convolutional neural network structure, thanks to which it can be assumed that convolutional neural networks contain a high potential for the analysis of stock data represented by charts showing the behavior of share prices or other financial instruments. Increasing numbers of consumers now participate in quantified self (QS) process to learn more about their health-related behaviors. Understanding how to increase consumers’ QS continuance participation intention is critical. Drawing on Social Cognitive Theory and Self-Construal Theory, this study investigates how the presentation characteristics of QS data and consumers’ self-construal can influence their continuance participation intention during QS process. Methods: Three between-subjects scenario simulation experiments were conducted to examine the influence mechanisms of the presentation mode and type of QS data and self-construal on consumers’ continuance participation intention. Results: The study found: (1) the presentation mode (horizontal comparison vs vertical comparison) and type (descriptive vs analytic) of QS data had significant interaction effects on consumers’ continuance participation intention; (2) consumers’ self-construal (interdependent vs independent) and the presentation mode of QS data had obvious interaction effects on their continuance participation intention; and (3) consumers’ self-construal and the presentation type of QS data had interaction influences on their continuance participation intention. Conclusion: This research combined Social Cognitive Theory and Self-Construal Theory to analyze the influence mechanisms of the presentation characteristics of QS data and consumers’ self-construal on their continuance participation intention. These findings not only expand the research field and the scope of application of Social Cognitive Theory, but also provide new insights for the study of consumers’ QS problems. They have reference value for the optimization of the presentation features of QS data, and for improving the match between QS data presentation and consumers’ self-construal types, to motivate continued participation in QS process. Keywords: continuance participation intention, data presentation, quantified self, self-construal

Reproducible document standards, like R Markdown, facilitate the programmatic creation of documents whose content is itself programmatically generated. While programmatic content alone may not be sufficient for a rendered document since it does not include prose (content generated by an author to provide context, a narrative, etc.) programmatic generation can provide substantial efficiencies for structuring and constructing documents. This paper explores the programmatic generation of reproducible documents by distinguishing components that can be created by computational means from those requiring human-generation, providing guidelines for the generation of these documents, and identifying a use case in clinical trial reporting. These concepts and use case are illustrated through the listdown package for the R programming environment, which is is currently available on the Comprehensive R Archive Network.

The cancer imaging archive (TICA) receives and manages an ever-increasing quantity of clinical (non-image) data containing valuable information about subjects in imaging collections. To harmonize and integrate these data, we have first cataloged the types of information occurring across public TCIA collections. We then produced mappings for these diverse instance data using ontology-based representation patterns and transformed the data into a knowledge graph in a semantic database. This repository combined the transformed instance data with relevant background knowledge from domain ontologies. The resulting repository of semantically integrated data is a rich source of information about subjects that can be queried across imaging collections. Building on this work we have implemented and deployed a REST API and a user-facing semantic cohort builder tool. This tool allows allow researchers and other users to search and identify groups of subject-level records based on non-image data that were not queryable prior to this work. The search results produced by this interface link to images, allowing users to quickly identify and view images matching the selection criteria, as well as allowing users to export the harmonized clinical data. There is a logic to doing successful research, but graduate students and indeed postdoctoral fellows and young independent investigators often learn it apprentice style, by experience. The purpose of this essay is to provide the product of that experience and advice that I have found useful to young researchers as they begin their training and careers. The objective, sample an enzyme reaction mixture at 4 °C about every ten seconds for ∼15 minutes. 55 years ago, only moth pipetting was available. Easy at room temperature, but not at 4 °C. How to do it? Nothing on the market would do. Solution, have a glass blower make a set of water jacketed test tubes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although network management tasks are highly automated using big data and artificial intelligence technologies, when an unforeseen cybersecurity problem or fault scenario occurs, administrators sometimes directly analyze system data to make a heuristic decision. However, a wide variety of information is required to address complex cybersecurity risks, whereas current systems are focused on narrowing the candidates of information. In this study, we propose a multiagent-based data presentation mechanism (MADPM) that consists of agents operating data-processing tools that store and analyze network data. Agents in MADPM interact with other agents to form data-processing sequences. In this process, we design not only the composition of the sequence according to requirements, but also a mechanism to expand it to enable multifaceted analysis that supports heuristic reasoning. We tested five case studies in the prototype system implemented in an experimental network. The results indicated that the multifaceted presentation of data can support administrators more than the selected single-faceted optimal presentation. The final outcome of our proposed approach is the provision of a multifaceted and cross-system data presentation for heuristic inference in network management tasks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The data presentation is one of the segments of the methodology in every research depending on the approach. The methodology, therefore, refers to the design and the theory that underpins the research. The paper contained a detailed explanation of the steps taken from the researcher’s interactions with the raw data and how such data was presented or analyzed. The data processing used observations, interviews, and audio recordings to have a balanced presentation. The pattern of ideas in data presentation involved familiarizing with the data to generate initial codes, searching for themes, defining and producing the report. Thus, the paper gives the reader a clear view of how qualitative data are presented and discussed with credibility. It is recommended that a researcher must rely on a wide range of sources of data that would help to produce an in-depth and holistic portrait of the participants' experiences.

Statistics is one of the mathematics subjects that can be useful in everyday life, especially data presentation material. However, many students still have difficulty understanding the data presentation material. So, it is necessary to design learning using the appropriate context and approach in learning data presentation material. Therefore, the researcher aims to determine student learning trajectories in understanding the presentation of statistical data using traditional markets as a context in the learning process using the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach assisted by interactive video. The research method used is the design research, which has three stages: the preliminary design stage, the experimental design stage (pilot experiment and teaching experiment), and the retrospective analysis stage. This study indicates that the learning trajectory obtained can help students understand the concept of data presentation material. The learning trajectory uses traditional market contexts and consists of 5 activities, namely: observing traditional market context learning videos and determining data, presenting data in the form of various tables, presenting data in the form of bar charts, presenting data in a line chart, presenting data in the form of pie charts and solving a contextual problem. Furthermore, the results of this study are expected to be an inspiration in learning using the context of everyday life.

The lack of consistent presentation of results in published studies on the association between a quantitative explanatory variable and a quantitative dependent variable has been a long-term issue in evaluating the reported findings. Studies are analyzed and reported in a variety of ways. The main purpose of this review is to illustrate the procedures in summarizing and synthesizing research results from multivariate models with a quantitative outcome variable. The review summarizes the application of the standardized regression coefficient as an effect size index in the context of meta-analysis and describe how it can be estimated and converted from data presented in original research articles. An example of synthesis is provided using research articles on the association between childhood body mass index and carotid intima-media thickness in adult life. Finally, the paper shares practical recommendations for meta-analysts wanting to use the standardized regression coefficient in pooling findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

“Pollination syndromes” are specific combinations of floral traits that are proposed to evolve convergently across angiosperm lineages in response to different types of animal pollinators. In spite of their long history, pollination syndromes have not been tested adequately–they rarely have been examined critically to determine how well they describe floral trait diversity or predict pollinators. In a recent meta-analysis of data from the literature, Rosas-Guerrero et al. (2014) provide a welcome test that draws on insights from past studies. At the same time, their study illustrates several difficulties of meta-analysis approaches in general, and for pollination biology in particular. Here we discuss those difficulties and propose some solutions. We first consider how to gather studies from the literature without introducing unintended bias, such as the old-fashioned method of working backward from cited literature. We next consider how to deal with difficulties that invariably arise when extracting and analyzing often-incomplete information from heterogeneous studies. Finally we discuss issues of interpreting and presenting the results in the most informative manner. We conclude that although Rosas-Guerrero et al. (2014) and other studies such as Ollerton et al. (2009) have arrived at different conclusions about the utility of pollination syndromes, their results are not necessarily incompatible.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The efficiency of clinical procedures is based on practical and theoretical knowledge. Countless daily information is available to the orthodontist, but it is up to this professional to know how to select what really has an impact on clinical practice. Evidence-based orthodontics ends up requiring the clinician to know the basics of biostatistics to understand the results of scientific publications. Such concepts are also important for researchers, for correct data planning and analysis. Objective: This article aims to present, in a clear way, some essential concepts of biostatistics that assist the clinical orthodontist in understanding scientific research, for an evidence-based clinical practice. In addition, an updated version of the tutorial to assist in choosing the appropriate statistical test will be presented. This PowerPoint® tool can be used to assist the user in finding answers to common questions about biostatistics, such as the most appropriate statistical test for comparing groups, choosing graphs, performing correlations and regressions, analyzing casual, random or systematic errors. Conclusion: Researchers and clinicians must acquire or recall essential concepts to understand and apply an appropriate statistical analysis. It is important that journal readers and reviewers can identify when statistical analyzes are being inappropriately used.

One of the most widely researched issue on higher education relates to exposed paths that lead to academic success. Nowadays information systems represent an essential part of the education sector in many universities. In particular, the increasing of the number of students in higher education in Portugal leads to the progressive increase of student's data contained in institutional information systems. This article aims to include the use of student data contained in the Fénix information system of a Portuguese higher educational institution, turning their information in an internal tool, to assist analysis and studies of internal academic success. Providing relevant data for queries can offer a clearer explanation of the paths to success in higher education. It can also help the identification of problems and failures aiming to support a more effective intervention of institutions and researchers to improve the academic success. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INDEPENDENT variables ,BEST practices - Abstract
The presentation of data in tables and figures is a hallmark of scientific publications. Tables and figures are most effective if they reflect two principles and a number of best practices. The first principle is to use tables and figures to highlight the main findings of a study. The second principle is to choose the appropriate format based on the type of data. Tables are most effective for presenting precise data and multiple outcomes. Figures are most effective for presenting trends over time or comparative values. When constructing a table, different populations are identified in columns and then compared according to variables that are identified in rows. This structure enables comparisons between the different study populations. When constructing figures, the independent variable (such as time) is on the horizontal or x-axis [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Featured Application: In this work, an applicable instrument is proposed to quickly evaluate the quality of the statistical reporting and data presentation in research papers. Background: Data analysis methods have become an essential part of empirical research papers, especially in health sciences and medical research. It has previously been reported that a noteworthy percentage of articles have flaws in their statistical reporting. Reporting problems have been a long-term issue, and despite continued efforts to improve the situation, improvements have been far from satisfactory. One explanation is an inadequate assessment of statistical reporting during peer review. This communication proposes a short instrument to assess the quality of data analysis reporting in manuscripts and published papers. Method: A checklist-type instrument was developed by selecting and refining items from previous reports about the quality of statistical reporting in medical journals and from published guidelines for reporting and data presentation. Items were pretested and modified during pilot studies. A total of 160 original medical research articles that were published in 4 journals were evaluated to test the instrument. Interrater and intrarater agreements were examined by comparing quality scores assigned to 40 articles published in a psychiatric journal. Results: The data analysis reporting test consists of nine questions that assess the quality of health research from a reader's perspective. The composed scale has a total score ranging from 0 to 10 and discriminated between journals and study designs. A high score suggested that an article had a good presentation of findings in tables and figures and that the description of analysis methods was helpful to readers. Interrater and intrarater agreements were high. Conclusion: An applicable checklist for quickly testing the statistical reporting quality of manuscripts and published research papers was developed. This instrument aims to improve the quality of empirical research in scientific fields where statistical methods play an important role. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Keehan KH, Gaffney MC, Zucker IH. CORP: Assessing author compliance with data presentation guidelines for manuscript figures. Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol 318: H1051-H1058, 2020. First published March 20, 2020; doi:10.1152/ajpheart.00071.2020.--The present study was undertaken to address the concern that author compliance with American Physiological Society (APS) journal instructions to authors for data presentation in manuscript figures is inadequate. Common instances of noncompliance are omitted molecular weight markers for immunoblots and bar graphs lacking individual data points. The American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology (AJP-Heart and Circ) editorial team designed a program to assess figure data presentation in submitted manuscripts. The intended outcome was to improve author compliance with APS data presentation guidelines and to improve overall rigor and reproducibility in articles published in AJP-Heart and Circ. The AJP-Heart and Circ team invited 37 peer reviewers to participate in a figure reviewer project (FRp). Over a period of five months, 32 first-revision manuscripts were enrolled in the FRp. Each manuscript was reviewed by the original peer reviewers and an additional figure reviewer (FR). Post-peer review, corresponding authors and FRs were surveyed for insight into their experiences. Of the 32 corresponding authors invited, 20 (63%) responded to the survey. In response to the survey, 100% of respondents stated that peer review was performed in a timely fashion despite the additional FR. When asked whether the FR experience had any effect on how one would present data in manuscript figures in future submissions, 65% of authors and 83% of FRs said yes. In addition, 63% of authors responding agreed that the overall quality of their figures was improved after revising based on FR comments. This exercise resulted in improved compliance with APS data presentation guidelines and changed attitudes among both authors and reviewers as to the need for consistent and clear data presentation in manuscript figures. NEW & NOTEWORTHY The goal of the American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology figure reviewer program was to improve author compliance with existing APS data presentation instructions for manuscript figures. The result was an improvement in compliance with these guidelines. Time from submission to final decision did not significantly increase for papers with the additional figure reviewer, and both figure reviewers and corresponding authors reported positive feedback in post-program surveys. - Abstract
The use of qualitative data has so far received relatively little attention in methodological discussions on qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). This article addresses this lacuna by discussing the challenges researchers face when transforming qualitative data into quantitative data in QCA. By reviewing 29 empirical studies using qualitative data for QCA, we explore common practices related to data calibration, data presentation, and sensitivity testing. Based on these three issues, we provide considerations when using qualitative data for QCA, which are relevant both for QCA scholars working with qualitative data and the wider mixed methods research community involved in quantitizing. Proper peer review and quality of published articles are often regarded as signs of reliable scientific journals. The aim of this study was to compare whether the quality of statistical reporting and data presentation differs among articles published in ‘predatory dental journals’ and in other dental journals. We evaluated 50 articles published in ‘predatory open access (OA) journals’ and 100 clinical trials published in legitimate dental journals between 2019 and 2020. The quality of statistical reporting and data presentation of each paper was assessed on a scale from 0 (poor) to 10 (high). The mean (SD) quality score of the statistical reporting and data presentation was 2.5 (1.4) for the predatory OA journals, 4.8 (1.8) for the legitimate OA journals, and 5.6 (1.8) for the more visible dental journals. The mean values differed significantly (p < 0.001). The quality of statistical reporting of clinical studies published in predatory journals was found to be lower than in open access and highly cited journals. This difference in quality is a wake-up call to consume study results critically. Poor statistical reporting indicates wider general lower quality in publications where the authors and journals are less likely to be critiqued by peer review.

Data are usually collected in a raw format and thus the inherent information is difficult to understand. Therefore, raw data need to be summarized, processed, and analyzed. However, no matter how well manipulated, the information derived from the raw data should be presented in an effective format, otherwise, it would be a great loss for both authors and readers. In this article, the techniques of data and information presentation in textual, tabular, and graphical forms are introduced. Text is the principal method for explaining findings, outlining trends, and providing contextual information. A table is best suited for representing individual information and represents both quantitative and qualitative information. A graph is a very effective visual tool as it displays data at a glance, facilitates comparison, and can reveal trends and relationships within the data such as changes over time, frequency distribution, and correlation or relative share of a whole. Text, tables, and graphs for data and information presentation are very powerful communication tools. They can make an article easy to understand, attract and sustain the interest of readers, and efficiently present large amounts of complex information. Moreover, as journal editors and reviewers glance at these presentations before reading the whole article, their importance cannot be ignored.

A collaboration between the Dictionary Unit for South African English (DSAE) and Stellenbosch University (SU) was initiated in 2016 to address the structure, layout and functionality of the online Dictionary of South African English on Historical Principles (DSAEHist). This article focuses on work undertaken during the initial stages of the DSAE-SU collaboration and presents current work in adapting a print historical dictionary for the digital age. As with other print dictionaries that enter the electronic medium, the pilot version of the online DSAEHist still felt and looked like a print dictionary, albeit with a somewhat more user-friendly access structure. Another difficulty that the DSAEHist faces is the need for a dictionary based on historical principles to showcase large diachronic datasets. This requires that the article and microstructure, as well as the access structure, be adapted. Apart from this, the general layout of the dictionary is also being re-evaluated and redesigned to make it more usable on online platforms. To accommodate new users and to bring the DSAEHist into the digital era (with regard to standard web and mobile practices) stylistic, navigational and functional changes are being made. This article presents these changes to show how a valuable cultural and language resource is being brought into the digital era.

REFLEXIVITY ,SOCIAL scientists ,LOYALTY ,LITERATURE reviews ,ACADEMIC conferences - Abstract
In this essay, I confront a problem I encountered at a recent academic conference wherein the words and sentiments of research respondents were unfortunately and unnecessarily silenced and edited - perhaps due to presenters' unfortunate and needless regard for the supposed impropriety of the respondents' language. I argue that such silencing and editing is not only unfaithful to our respondents; it is also unfaithful to our project as social scientists. I briefly review some of the literature on qualitative interviewing and the importance of positionality, relationality and reflexivity between the interviewer and the participant. I apply some of these prescriptions to the reporting of data in presentations and manuscripts. I then point out some examples of how rude or swearwords have been appropriately used in management and other journals and end with a plea that we remain true to the language and settings that are so important for our understanding of social and organizational life. The issue of waste management is still a thorny problem for Indonesia. This is because most of the waste produced by households still ends up in the Final Disposal Site (TPA). Meanwhile, the capacity of landfills, especially in big cities, is getting full. In fact, it is not easy to find land to open a new TPA to accommodate the garbage collected from the community. The purpose of this community service is to teach the residents of Kepuh Village to process household dry waste. The qualitative method used in this activity uses socialization and guidance. The stages in data analysis using qualitative methods are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the discussion in this community service are [1] Implementation of Waste Bank Socialization at the Chairman's House [2] Dry waste collection [3] Waste sorting at Residents' Houses and [4] Implementation of waste bank at Village Hall. The conclusion is that people do not understand the effect of dry waste disposal on the environment, fostering independence with dry waste processing practices.

The study aims to know the response of parents and teachers regarding the use of radio channels as online learning media in SD Negeri Paremono 1 Kecamatan Mungkid. The study uses qualitative comparisons with case studies. The data comes from 11 pairs of students, 11 parents plus 6 teachers from class I through class VI. During the data collection stage, researchers use interviewing methods, observation and angkets. Testing the validity of data, researchers used technical triangulation (interviews, observations, digitation of documents and angkets) as well as source triangulation (students, parents and teachers). Data analysis runs through four components, that is: data collection, data reduction, data presentation and deduction deduction. The results of this study indicate that the students' responses is good, the parents' response is also good, while the teacher’s response is also good. This is because the three data sources have clear information on executing online learning using radio channel media, preparations are made to a maximum and when the application is not absolute. As a learning evaluation, students usually get assignments, both online and offline. Online tasks are given and collected daily through the whatsapp/googleform. While the task is offline twice a week, students take and collect assignments on Mondays and Thursdays.

This descriptive qualitative study aimed at describing students’ thinking process in solving arithmetic sequence problems based on students’ adversity quotient (AQ). Two students who have camper type of AQ and two students who have transition from camper to climber type of AQ were involved in this study. We employed a questionnaire to identify the type of AQ that students have, a test to collect data on students’ problem-solving process, and an interview guideline to clarify students’ thinking process in problem-solving. The collected data were analyzed by following a process consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results revealed that the students who have camper type of AQ demonstrated an assimilation thinking process on the stage of understanding problem and devising a problem-solving plan, an accommodation-assimilation thinking process on the stage of devising a problem-solving plan, and an accommodation thinking process on the stage of looking back. As for students who have transition from camper to climber type of AQ, they have similar thinking process with that of the students who have camper type of AQ on the stage of understanding problem, devising a problem-solving plan, and executing the problem-solving plan, but these students demonstrated different thinking process on the stage of looking back. In the stage of looking back, the students who have transition from camper to climber type of AQ presented an accommodation-assimilation thinking process that can be found from their responses to the test and interview.
