Textbooks function as catalysts for societal change, influencing students’ values, beliefs, and cultural awareness from their primary level of education. Textbooks serve as key learning resources for students which significantly influences students’ character development. The creation of textbooks reflecting values is essential, and achieving this goal requires a comprehensive analysis of textbooks. The objectives of the study are focused on examining values are represented in the text and images found within Bengali language textbooks of Primary Education Board, School Education Departments, govt. of West Bengal, India was the publisher of the textbook. A Bengali textbook named “Patabahar” of class IV of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education has been chosen through the purposive sampling technique as a sample in this study. This study used qualitative and documentary research methods through content analysis. The findings demonstrate that social values, moral values, environmental values, and Personal values, emotional values, cultural values are more reflected and spiritual, aesthetic, humanistic, economic, historical, civic, peace, national, cognitive values were minimally reflected across the textbooks. The study results provide a basis for state or national policy changes that promote values-balanced content in educational media and ensure the development and implementation of guidelines that are beneficial to the development of textbook development agencies. Also, helpful for textbook authors and teachers in developing a value-alignment curriculum and creating more inclusive, culturally sensitive, and ethically grounded visual materials. This white paper provides an evaluation of physical elements of climate change and sea level rise that are contained in the California Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment. The analyses use six global climate models, each run under the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report on Emissions Scenarios B1 and A2 scenarios. From the global climate models and associated downscaled output, these scenarios contain a range of warming, continued interannual and decadal variation of precipitation with incremental changes by the middle and end of twenty‐first century, substantial loss of mountain snow pack, and a range of sea level rise along the California coast.

How might climate change alter California’s risk of floods in the future? Findings from this project suggest that flooding will become more intense in the San Joaquin and (to a lesser extent) Sacramento watersheds by the end of the century, irrespective of whether the climate becomes wetter or drier. More intense flooding appears to be a consequence of several factors—principally bigger storms, more frequent big storms and more days of precipitation falling as rain instead of snow. Moister winter soils, which may be too saturated to absorb added water, also contribute to flooding in some areas.

During the past year, an investigation has been initiated regarding how future climate changes may impact the hydrology of the Tijuana River Watershed – a binational watershed. The study has used gridded observed daily precipitation and temperatures and downscaled daily precipitation and temperature projections from three global climate models (GCM) to drive the VIC macroscale hydrologic model. Sensitivity analysis using VIC suggests about 2% reduction of runoff for each 1% reduction in precipitation. A 1oC increase in average temperature produces about 3% reduction of runoff. All three GCM simulations yield annual warming, with end-of-century temperature increases from approximately +1oC under a lower emission scenario in the less responsive PCM1 to +3oC in a higher emission scenario with the more responsive GFDL model. Climate projections suggest greater warming in the spring and summer months ranging between 2oC to 3oC under the higher emission scenario. Two of the three GCM simulations yield more frequent summer drying as gauged by VIC simulated soil moisture in the twenty-first century under the higher emission scenario. Summer soil moisture declines most, and most rapidly, in the later part of the twenty-first century. This initial evaluation provides perhaps the first direct estimates of the climate change impacts on the Tijuana River Watershed. However, transforming these results into a more useable projections and impacts will be a task for the future and will require collaboration and interaction between local stakeholders and the researchers.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays connected with the microgrid system consist of multiple strings interconnected in different ways. This paper deals the diagnosis of faults that occurred in one or multiple of such strings. Output currents from inverter output terminals of the microgrid system have been captured for assessment. Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT)-based DC components and total harmonics distortions (THD) have been calculated. Discreet wavelet transformation (DWT)-based approximate and detail coefficients of inverter output currents have been analysed by statistical parameters such as skewness and kurtosis. These analyses have been carried out at normal conditions and different string fault conditions. Specific relations have been observed among percentage of string faults with DC components, THD, kurtosis and skewness at certain DWT levels. Parametric selection has been done and algorithm has been proposed for string fault assessment. Three generations of global climate models (GCMs), Coupled Model Intercomparison Project version 3 (CMIP3), CMIP5, and CMIP6, are evaluated for performance simulating seasonal mean and annual‐to‐decadal variability of temperature and precipitation in the Upper Colorado River Basin. Low‐frequency precipitation variability associated with drought is a particular focus and found to be a significant model shortcoming. The evaluation includes remote teleconnected atmospheric responses to the Pacific Ocean, including the El Niño/Southern Oscillation and Pacific Decadal Oscillation. GCMs have improved their simulation of the Upper Basin over model generations, but primarily in atmospheric circulation metrics. Persistent winter precipitation biases have changed little, including in multiyear precipitation variability. Users generally bias‐corrected GCM data before use; evaluation using a simple spatially and temporally averaged bias correction shows that the CMIP6 models outperform earlier generations after the bias correction, although more complex precipitation biases remain even after the simple bias correction. These model rankings will be useful when selecting GCMs for a variety of hydrological and ecological climate studies in the Upper Basin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
