This paper proposes novel multi-energy inertia support for simultaneous frequency and voltage control of an isolated hybrid power system (IHPS). Multi-energy storage (gas inertia – hydrogen storage, thermal inertia – solar thermal storage, hydro inertia – gravity hydro storage, chemical inertia – battery energy storage) supported by demand side management (DSM) for simultaneous voltage and frequency regulation and backed by biodiesel generators, are the essential elements of IHPS. A novel control strategy of concurrent virtual droop control, virtual damping control, virtual inertia control, and virtual negative inertia control is proposed to utilise multiple inertia sources and to improve LFC and AVR performance effectively. The effective coordination of inertia sources in eradicating oscillations in IHPS, is aided by a developed cascaded proportional integral-tilt-integral-sliding mode (PI-TISMC) controller. The performance of PI-TISMC is compared with PID, PI-PID, and PI-SMC controllers. A maiden attempt has been done by training five diverse classes of optimization techniques to optimize the parameters of controllers in the present work. The results are evaluated in MATLAB and it is evident from the results that the performance of frequency control is improved by 6.5%, 7.8% and 3.4 s (over shoot, undershoot, and settling time). Porous SiC ceramics with three different pore sizes (∼7, ∼45, and ∼98 μm) and two different porosities (∼54% and ∼63%) were prepared to investigate the effects of pore size on electrical and thermal properties of the porous ceramics. With an increase in pore size from ∼7 to ∼98 μm at the same porosity (∼54%), the electrical and thermal conductivities of the porous ceramics increased from ∼1.01 to ∼2.30 Ω−1·cm−1 and ∼14.3 to ∼26.2 W·m−1K−1, respectively. Similar trends have been obtained in the ceramics with ∼63% porosity. The porous SiC ceramic with larger pore size has smaller pore/strut interface area at the same porosity, which leads to less carrier scattering and phonon‐pore scattering at the pore/strut interfaces, resulting in higher electrical and thermal conductivities, respectively. These results suggest that the electrical and thermal properties of porous SiC ceramics can be successfully tuned by adjusting the pore size and porosity depending on the application. This paper investigates the frequency control strategy of the Virtual Power Plant (VPP), with the structure of an independent control area that includes diverse Distributed Energy Resources. The proposed VPP system comprises generating units such as Solar PV, Archimedes Wave Energy Conversion, Biodiesel driven Generator, and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, which are interconnected to conventional thermal power plant. Centralized control strategy is adopted for frequency control studies, by considering the communication time delays. Fractional order Proportional Integral Derivative (FOPID), Proportional Integral Derivative (PID), and Proportional Integral (PI) controllers are employed to perform the control action on generating units to perform the frequency control. Tuning of the controllers is done using optimization algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization, Firefly Algorithm, Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm, Ant Lion Optimizer, Sine Cosine Algorithm, and Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA). By comparative analysis, SSA algorithm is proved to outperform the other algorithms in terms of minimizing the objective function of Integral of Squared Error of the deviations in system frequencies and tie-line power. The system is also investigated under various scenarios of generation and load disturbances to study the comparative performance of the FOPID controller over PID and PI controllers. Results prove the superiority of SSA-tuned FOPID controller over PID and PI controllers in terms of providing better system responses. Sensitivity test has been conducted on the system without resetting nominal controller gain values and the proposed SSA-tuned FOPID controller is proved to be robust against the uncertainties in the load and parameters of our system. Development of an efficient membrane from waste resources has been receiving growing interest. The utilization of industrial waste coal fly ash (CFA) for the preparation of SiC based tubular membrane has reduced the raw material cost and sintering temperature, and hence beneficial in both economic and environmental points. In the present work, tubular membrane was prepared by extrusion of ceramic paste formulated using SiC powder, CFA, suitable dispersant, plasticizer and additives. The extruded green body was dried and then sintered at 850°C. The membrane was characterized by measuring porosity, morphology by scanning electron microscopy, linear shrinkage, mechanical strength. The membrane performance was evaluated using synthetically prepared oil-water emulsion, turbid water, kitchen wastewater and industrial wastewater. The membrane was found to remove 93-95% of oil depending on the oil concentration in the feed water. The oil rejection potential of the membrane was compared with other membranes reported in the literature and the results indicated that the membrane prepared in this study had a strong potential applications in wastewater treatment.
