Processing capacity distribution has become widespread in the fog computing era. End-user services have multiplied, from consumer products to Industry 5.0. In this scenario, the services must have a very high-reliability level. But in a system with such displacement of hardware, the reliability of the service necessarily passes through the hardware design. Devices shall have a high quality, but they shall also efficiently support fault management. Hardware design must take into account all fault management functions and participate in creating a fault management policy to ensure that the ultimate goal of fault management is fulfilled, namely to increase a system's reliability. Efficiently and sustainably, both in the system's performance and the product's cost. This paper analyzes the hardware design techniques that efficiently contribute to the realization of fault management and, consequently, guarantee a high level of reliability and availability for the services offered to the end customer. We describe hardware requirements and how they affect the choice of devices in the hardware design of networking systems.

Fault management is a key function to guarantee the quality of the service. Research has done a lot to improve fault supervision, and investigation is ongoing in fault prediction, thanks to the potentials of artificial intelligence and machine learning. In this study, we propose a fault management framework that puts an emphasis on fault recovery: a framework developed on multi-layer function and a fault recovery methodology distributed over several technological layers. The basic principle of our proposal is that the system's complexity exposes it to a higher probability of temporary error. Newfound attention to the fault recovery phase is the key to keeping the service's quality high and saving maintenance costs by decreasing the return rate.

In this paper, we discuss a method for application fingerprinting using conventional hardware and software performance counters. Modern applications are complex and often utilizes a broad spectra of the available hardware resources, where multiple performance counters can be of significant interest. The number of performance counters that can be captured simultaneously is, however, small due to hardware limitations in most modern computers. We propose to mitigate the hardware limitations using an intelligent mechanism that pinpoints the most relevant performance counters for an application's performance. In our proposal, we utilize the Pearson correlation coefficient to rank the most relevant PMU events and filter out events of less relevance to an application's execution. Our ultimate goal is to establish a comparable application fingerprint model using performance counters, that we can use to classify applications. This study explores the prospects of using scaled model experiments for capturing the influence of a novel spray deflection concept on planing craft performance in calm water and in waves. An experimental setup with a towed planing craft model is designed and systematic experiments are performed, first with a bare hull model and then with the same model equipped with spray deflectors. Measured trim, sinkage and resistance in calm water and accelerations and resistance in waves are presented. The results, as well as various aspects of the experimental setup and the spray phenomenon, are discussed. The experimental results indicate that the studied spray deflector concept can have positive effects by lowering the resistance as well as the acceleration in waves. The detailed tailoring of the deflectors is concluded to be crucial. The developed experimental setup is concluded to give consistent results that capture the influence of the spray deflection details on the craft resistance and responses and is concluded to be useful for further research as well as for design purposes., QC 20200421

Due to their specific hull form, planing craft are vessels that can overcome wave resistance and reach high operational speeds by transforming the hydrodynamic pressure, unfavourable in terms of resistance, into lift. The different resistance components acting on a planing hull have been studied and modelled in the past. By empirical studies, it is known that a noticeable percentage of the total resistance is caused by the whisker spray resistance, hence, devices to decrease its contribution are of great interest. The most common spray deflection devices applied are spray rails. An innovative spray deflection concept, called deflectors, has been introduced and evaluated using numerical simulations. The present paper considers a systematic towing tank experiment for studying the deflectors and validating the numerical study. Results show that the validation of the numerical test case is not easily obtained. The dynamics of monomeric Alzheimer A(1-40) in aqueous solution was studied using heteronuclear NMR experiments. 15N NMR relaxation rates of amide groups report on the dynamics in the peptide chain and make it possible to estimate structural propensities from temperature-dependent relaxation data and chemical shifts change analysis. The persistence length of the polypeptide chain was determined using a model in which the influence of neighboring residue relaxation is assumed to decay exponentially as a function of distance. The persistence length of the A(1-40) monomer was found to decrease from eight to three residues when temperature was increased from 3 to 18 °C. At 3 °C the peptide shows structural propensities that correlate well with the suggested secondary structure regions of the peptide to be present in the fibrils, and with the -helical structure in membrane-mimicking systems. Our data leads to a structural model for the monomeric soluble -peptide with six different regions of secondary structure propensities. The peptide has two regions with -strand propensity (residues 16-24 and 31-40), two regions with high PII-helix propensity (residues 1-4 and 11-15) and two unstructured regions with higher mobility (residues 5-10 and 25-30) connecting the structural elements. Within the framework of the HERA luminosity upgrade project [1] Scanditronix Magnet AB has designed in collaboration with AMACC All, IBA S.A. and DESY a septum-like dipole for the compensation of orbit- differences between e(+)-p and e(-)-p collisions at HERA. The magnet yoke is 640 mm long, 415 mm wide and 550 mm high. The total magnet length is 930 mm. The pole distance is 70 mm, the "good field" region is +/-20 mm centered around the nominal proton orbit. To meet the high field quality requirements for the whole range of field excitation between 0.1 T and 1.1 T VACOFLUX shims have been added to the pole edges to reduce saturation effects. The air gap is extended from the pole region by 235 mm to allow incoming synchrotron radiation light to pass through the magnet without being scattered., The separation between proton and electron beam at the magnet position at 18.88 m away from the interaction point is 121 mm. Carefully chosen thickness of the return yoke, a 13 mm thick shielding plate between proton and electron beam and 40 mm thick mirror plates on the front faces of the magnet reduce the field outside the magnet well below the tolerable value of 0,5*10(-3) T*m integrated along the e-orbit.
