Coal gangue, which is the primary solid waste generated during coal production and washing processes, poses significant risks to the ecological environment and social safety. This study investigated the effective use of this material as a novel component in planting substrates to improve the physicochemical characteristics of arid sandstone soil in mining areas. The goal was to use this modified substrate for the restoration of vegetation, which at the same time would allow an effective utilization of coal gangue and its removal from mining areas. Using an L16 (4^3) orthogonal experimental design, systematically investigated the effects of three factors, i.e., coal gangue, a water-retaining agent, and bentonite, applied at various levels on soil nutrient characteristics and plant growth indicators in order to optimize the formula for the planting substrate. The addition of 1500 g of coal gangue significantly increased the contents of organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, total potassium, available nitrogen, and available potassium in the substrate (p < 0.05). This enhancement promoted the growth of Kochia prostrata. With the addition of 0.4 % water-retaining agent, the available nitrogen content in the substrate increased significantly (p < 0.05). However, conditions were more favorable for seed germination and plant survival when this agent was not added. Moreover, the addition of 4 % bentonite resulted in a significant increase in the height of Kochia prostrata (p < 0.05). The comprehensive analysis using the orthogonal experimental model indicated that the optimal coal gangue to sandstone soil ratio for vegetation growth was 375:1125 g, with the water-retaining agent and bentonite added at mass fractions of 0.1 % and 2 %, respectively. This ratio significantly enhanced the nutritional composition of the planting substrate, promoting the germination and growth of Kochia prostrata. These findings provide a scientific basis for vegetation restoration in arid sandstone substrates in mining areas.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important legume crop worldwide. An emerging disease, basal stem rot with obvious wilt symptoms, was observed in the upper part of chickpea plants during the disease survey in Qiubei County of Yunnan Province. Three fungal isolates (ZD36-1, ZD36-2, and ZD36-3) were obtained from the diseased tissue of chickpea plants collected from the field. Those isolates were morphologically found to be similar to Diaporthe aspalathi. Molecular sequence analyses of multiple gene regions (ITS, tef1, tub2, cal, and his3) indicated that the three isolates showed a high identity with D. aspalathi. Pathogenicity and host range tests of the isolates were performed on the original host chickpea and eight other legume crops. The isolates were strongly pathogenic to chickpea and appeared highly pathogenic to soybean, cowpea, and mung bean; moderated or mild pathogenic to adzuki bean and common bean; however, the isolates did not cause symptoms on grass pea (Lathyrus sativus). Diaporthe aspalathi was previously reported as a main pathogen causing the southern stem canker in soybean. To our knowledge, this is the first report of D. aspalathi inducing basal stem rot on chickpea worldwide.

Extra energy consumption, inefficient nitrogen removal, and excessive sludge production are major challenges faced by wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) that rely on the traditional activated sludge process. Fermentation of wasted activated sludge (WAS) and novel nitrogen removal technologies based on partial nitrification (PN) have emerged as promising solutions to these issues. Recent studies have revealed an innovative strategy that integrates these two processes by supplementing fermentation liquid into activated sludge to induce PN. This review summarizes the research progress on PN establishment induced by the fermentation process. The microbiology and establishment methods of PN are briefly introduced, followed by a detailed discussion on the process, influencing factors, and product characteristics of WAS fermentation. The core section focuses on the side-stream and main-stream approaches of fermentation-induced PN, comparing their performance and application prospects. The potential mechanisms are explored, with an emphasis on the roles of free ammonia for the side-stream approach and the high tolerance of ammonium oxidizers to in-site fermentation stress for the main-stream approach. Finally, the limitations of the current research and future perspectives are discussed, highlighting the need for further investigation into microbial ecology, process optimization, and long-term stability. This review aims to provide insights into the synergistic integration of WAS fermentation and PN for sustainable and energy-efficient wastewater treatment.

Abstract Background Body mass index (BMI) has been found to be associated with a decreased risk of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, the effect of BMI trajectories and potential interactions with genetic variants on NSCLC risk remain unknown. Methods Cox proportional hazards regression model was applied to assess the association between BMI trajectory and NSCLC risk in a cohort of 138,110 participants from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial. One-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was further used to access the causality between BMI trajectories and NSCLC risk. Additionally, polygenic risk score (PRS) and genome-wide interaction analysis (GWIA) were used to evaluate the multiplicative interaction between BMI trajectories and genetic variants in NSCLC risk. Results Compared with individuals maintaining a stable normal BMI (n = 47,982, 34.74%), BMI trajectories from normal to overweight (n = 64,498, 46.70%), from normal to obese (n = 21,259, 15.39%), and from overweight to obese (n = 4,371, 3.16%) were associated with a decreased risk of NSCLC (hazard ratio [HR] for trend = 0.78, P < 2×10−16). An MR study using BMI trajectory associated with genetic variants revealed no significant association between BMI trajectories and NSCLC risk. Further analysis of PRS showed that a higher GWAS-identified PRS (PRSGWAS) was associated with an increased risk of NSCLC, while the interaction between BMI trajectories and PRSGWAS with the NSCLC risk was not significant (P sPRS= 0.863 and P wPRS= 0.704). In GWIA analysis, four independent susceptibility loci (P < 1×10−6) were found to be associated with BMI trajectories on NSCLC risk, including rs79297227 (12q14.1, located in SLC16A7, P interaction = 1.01×10−7), rs2336652 (3p22.3, near CLASP2, P interaction = 3.92×10−7), rs16018 (19p13.2, in CACNA1A, P interaction = 3.92×10−7), and rs4726760 (7q34, near BRAF, P interaction = 9.19×10−7). Functional annotation demonstrated that these loci may be involved in the development of NSCLC by regulating cell growth, differentiation, and inflammation. Conclusions Our study has shown an association between BMI trajectories, genetic factors, and NSCLC risk. Interestingly, four novel genetic loci were identified to interact with BMI trajectories on NSCLC risk, providing more support for the aetiology research of NSCLC. Abstract Metabolic pattern reconstruction is an important factor in tumor progression. Metabolism of tumor cells is characterized by abnormal increase in anaerobic glycolysis, regardless of high oxygen concentration, resulting in a significant accumulation of energy from glucose sources. These changes promotes rapid cell proliferation and tumor growth, which is further referenced a process known as the Warburg effect. The current study reconstructed the metabolic pattern in progression of cancer to identify genetic changes specific in cancer cells. A total of 12 common types of solid tumors were included in the current study. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was performed to analyze 9 glycolysis-related gene sets, which are implicated in the glycolysis process. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify independent prognostic variables for construction of a nomogram based on clinicopathological characteristics and a glycolysis-related gene prognostic index (GRGPI). The prognostic model based on glycolysis genes showed high area under the curve (AUC) in LIHC (Liver hepatocellular carcinoma). The findings of the current study showed that 8 genes (AURKA, CDK1, CENPA, DEPDC1, HMMR, KIF20A, PFKFB4, STMN1) were correlated with overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). Further analysis showed that the prediction model accurately distinguished between high- and low-risk cancer patients among patients in different clusters in LIHC. A nomogram with a well-fitted calibration curve based on gene expression profiles and clinical characteristics showed good discrimination based on internal and external cohorts. These findings indicate that changes in expression level of metabolic genes implicated in glycolysis can contribute to reconstruction of tumor-related microenvironment.

BackgroundPredicting amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) in conversion and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) remains a daunting task. Standard diagnostic procedures for AD population are reliant on neuroimaging features (positron emission tomography, PET), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers (Aβ1-42, T-tau, P-tau), which are expensive or require invasive sampling. The blood-based biomarkers offer the opportunity to provide an alternative approach for easy diagnosis of AD, which would be a less invasive and cost-effective screening tool than currently approved CSF or amyloid β positron emission tomography (PET) biomarkers.MethodsWe developed and validated a sensitive and selective immunoassay for total Tau in plasma. Robust signatures were obtained based on several clinical features selected by multiple machine learning algorithms between the three participant groups. Subsequently, a well-fitted nomogram was constructed and validated, integrating clinical factors and total Tau concentration. The predictive performance was evaluated according to the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the curve (AUC) statistics. Decision curve analysis and calibration curves are used to evaluate the net benefit of nomograms in clinical decision-making.ResultsUnder optimum conditions, chemiluminescence analysis (CLIA) displays a desirable dynamic range within Tau concentration from 7.80 to 250 pg/mL with readily achieved higher performances (LOD: 5.16 pg/mL). In the discovery cohort, the discrimination between the three well-defined participant groups according to Tau concentration was in consistent agreement with clinical diagnosis (AD vs. non-MCI: AUC = 0.799; aMCI vs. non-MCI: AUC = 0.691; AD vs. aMCI: AUC = 0.670). Multiple machine learning algorithms identified Age, Gender, EMPG, Tau, ALB, HCY, VB12, and/or Glu as robust signatures. A nomogram integrated total Tau concentration and clinical factors provided better predictive performance (AD vs. non-MCI: AUC = 0.960, AD vs. aMCI: AUC = 0.813 in discovery cohort; AD vs. non-MCI: AUC = 0.938, AD vs. aMCI: AUC = 0.754 in validation cohort).ConclusionThe developed assay and a satisfactory nomogram model hold promising clinical potential for early diagnosis of aMCI and AD participants.

ObjectivesTo explore the status of parental nutrition practice of hospitalized late preterm infants and the factors influencing the clinical prescription.MethodsA multi-center, prospective cohort study was conducted during October 2015 to October 2017. Infants born after 34 weeks and before 37 weeks were enrolled from twenty-five hospitals in the Beijing area of China. Data of enteral and parenteral nutrition were collected.ResultsA total of 1,463 late preterm infants were enrolled in this study, 53.9% of infants were supported by parenteral nutrition. Over 60% of 34 weeks’ infants were on parenteral nutrition during the 2nd to the 4th day. Logistic regression analysis showed that gestational age(GA) (OR = 0.69, 95%CI 0.58–0.81), birth weight (OR = 0.41, 95%CI 0.26–0.65), hypoglycemia (OR = 2.77, 95%CI 1.90–4.04), small for gestational age (SGA) (OR = 2.18, 95%CI 1.34–3.55), feeding intolerance (OR = 6.41, 95%CI 1.90–21.59), neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) (OR = 2.16, 95%CI 1.12–4.18), neonatal infection(OR = 1.56 95%CI 1.16–2.10), and slow enteral nutrition advancement rate (OR = 0.92, 95%CI 0.90–0.95) were factors influencing the administration of parenteral nutrition.ConclusionOver half of hospitalized late preterm infants were prescribed with parenteral nutrition. Infants with lower GA, lower birth weight, diagnosed with hypoglycemia, SGA, feeding intolerance, NRDS, neonatal infection, or a slower rate of enteral nutrition advancement had a higher likelihood of receiving parenteral nutrition.

Background: Next generation sequencing (NGS) has systematically investigated the genomic landscape of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) in Western patients, but few reports have described the utility of NGS in identifying pathogenic and targetable mutations in Asian patients. Methods: We review our single center experience of identifying the genomic profile and feasible genetic mutations in 65 Chinese patients with STS by NGS. Results: On average, 3.35 mutations were identified per patient (range, 0-28), and at least one mutation could be detected in 95.4% (62/65) of patients. TP53 , MDM2 , CDK4 , KDR , and NF1 were the most frequent mutation genes in Chinese STS patients. Actionable mutations were discovered in 36.9% (24/65) of patients, and clinical benefit was achieved in 4 patients treated with corresponding molecular targeted therapies. Conclusions: Our study describes the mutation profile of Chinese STS patients by a single center experience. Some patients have achieved improved clinical outcomes by adopting treatment based on the results of genetic testing. NGS may affect clinical decision-making as a routine clinical test for patients with STS.

IntroductionProstate cancer (PCa) is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers and the leading cause of cancer death in males worldwide. Although prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening has considerably improved the detection of PCa, it has also led to a dramatic increase in overdiagnosing indolent disease due to its low specificity. This study aimed to develop and validate a multivariate diagnostic model based on the urinary epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM)-CD9–positive extracellular vesicles (EVs) (uEVEpCAM-CD9) to improve the diagnosis of PCa.MethodsWe investigated the performance of uEVEpCAM-CD9 from urine samples of 193 participants (112 PCa patients, 55 benign prostatic hyperplasia patients, and 26 healthy donors) to diagnose PCa using our laboratory-developed chemiluminescent immunoassay. We applied machine learning to training sets and subsequently evaluated the multivariate diagnostic model based on uEVEpCAM-CD9 in validation sets.ResultsResults showed that uEVEpCAM-CD9 was able to distinguish PCa from controls, and a significant decrease of uEVEpCAM-CD9 was observed after prostatectomy. We further used a training set (N = 116) and constructed an exclusive multivariate diagnostic model based on uEVEpCAM-CD9, PSA, and other clinical parameters, which showed an enhanced diagnostic sensitivity and specificity and performed excellently to diagnose PCa [area under the curve (AUC) = 0.952, P < 0.0001]. When applied to a validation test (N = 77), the model achieved an AUC of 0.947 (P < 0.0001). Moreover, this diagnostic model also exhibited a superior diagnostic performance (AUC = 0.917, P < 0.0001) over PSA (AUC = 0.712, P = 0.0018) at the PSA gray zone.ConclusionsThe multivariate model based on uEVEpCAM-CD9 achieved a notable diagnostic performance to diagnose PCa. In the future, this model may potentially be used to better select patients for prostate transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) biopsy.

BackgroundPremature/low-birth-weight infants are at significant risk of metabolic diseases in adulthood, which may be related to the levels of fetal adipokine. Here, we investigated the differences in the levels of umbilical cord blood adiponectin, leptin, insulin, and ghrelin in preterm and term infants and sought to elucidate the link between these hormones and fetal growth. We also evaluated the interrelationship among these metabolic hormones in both groups of newborns.MethodsA total of 149 mother–infant pairs (100 in the preterm group and 49 in the term group) were enrolled in the study. The preterm group was further subdivided according to birth weight (≤1,500, 1,501–2,000, 2,001–2,500, and >2,500 g), gestational age (2,000 g and in term infants. Umbilical cord blood leptin was positively correlated with the BW, birth length, and head circumference of newborns (r = 0.460, 0.311, and 0.310, respectively, all p < 0.05), whereas ghrelin was negatively correlated with the same parameters (r = −0.372, −0.415, and −0.373, respectively, all p > 0.05).ConclusionsThe lack of maturation of adipose tissue and the gastrointestinal tract by the fetus due to prematurity is associated with changes in the levels of cord blood adiponectin, leptin, and ghrelin. The dysregulation of these hormones in preterm infants may be a risk factor for fetal growth and future metabolic diseases.

We aim to explore the intestinal microbial metabolites in preterm infants with noninvasive methods and analyze the effects of initial feeding methods. Preterm infants with gestational weeks lower than 34 were recruited for fecal sample collection every 7 days. Fecal pH, ammonia, bile acid, and secretory IgA (sIgA) were tested. A 1:10 fecal slurry was inoculated into different culture media containing different carbohydrates as the only carbon source: lactose (LAT), fructooligosaccharide (FOS), galactooligosaccharide (GOS), and 2′-fucosyllactose (FL2). After 24 h of anaerobic culture through an in vitro fermentation system, air pressure difference, carbohydrate degradation rate, and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) content in fermentation pots were measured. Preterm infants were assigned into two groups: group A, preterm infants fed by human milk, including mother’s own milk and donor human milk (DHM); group B, preterm infants fed by preterm formula at first 3 days and fed by human milk (including mother’s own milk and DHM) from day 4 to discharge. Group A included 90 samples and group B included 70 samples. Group A had lower fecal pH (p = 0.023), ammonia (p = 0.001), and bile acids (p = 0.025). Group B also had higher fecal sIgA levels, both in OD (p = 0.046) and concentration (p < 0.0001) methods. Carbohydrates degradation rates in group A were higher than group B, especially in LAT medium (p = 0.017) and GOS medium (p = 0.005). Gas production amount had no significant difference in all four media. Several different SCFAs in four kinds of different culture media in group A were higher than in group B, but valeric acid was lower in group A. The initial feeding methods may affect the preterm infants’ intestinal microecology and microbial metabolites for at least several weeks.

BackgroundBrain metastasis mainly originates from lung cancer. Napsin A and TTF-1 factors have frequently been detected in lung adenocarcinoma cases. Brain metastasis tumors with napsin A and TTF-1 positive are easily classified as lung adenocarcinoma origin. However, some thyroid cancers also exhibit these clinical features. Besides, lung is the most common metastasis of undifferential thyroid cancer. Therefore, it requires development of novel diagnostic tools to aid in distinguishing between pulmonary and thyroid origin.Patient FindingsWe reported a case that was initially diagnosed as brain metastatic lung cancer based on immunohistochemistry results. Analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data from the brain lesion revealed that the cancer may have originated from the thyroid. We detected combo mutations in TERT promoter mutation, RET fusion and TP53, which are common in undifferential thyroid cancer (UTC), but rare for lung cancer. These results, coupled with identification of PAX8, indicated that this patient had UTC. Additionally, her three sons, despite being asymptomatic, were all diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma.SummaryThe patient received anlotinib treatment and showed good clinical outcomes. One month after anlotinib treatment, the pulmonary nodules were found to be controlled, and the thyroid tumor drastically reduced, and tracheal compression relieved. She continued anlotinib treatment for the following two months, but died one month later because the treatment stopped owing to financial reasons. All her sons underwent total thyroidectomy with lymph node dissection.ConclusionsAlthough NGS has been reported to assist in diagnosis of the origin of some tumors, this is the first evidence of NGS for the determination of the origin of thyroid tumors. To our knowledge, this is the first time that a combination of multiple mutations has been used to help determine the origin of a tumor, compared with the previous single mutant gene. Moreover, this is the first evidence on the use of anlotinib for treatment of UTC with distant metastasis. Besides, all three sons of the patient had thyroid carcinoma in subsequent examinations, indicating high-risk for familial non-medullary thyroid cancer in UTC patients and necessity for performing thyroid ultrasound testing in other family members.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the potential application of prostatic aspirated cellular RNA analysis technique for fast diagnosing and staging prostate cancer. Methods: Prostatic aspirated cells were obtained immediately after transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided needle biopsy. Cellular RNA such as glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) mRNA, prostate specific antigen (PSA) mRNA and prostate-specific RNA (PCA3) mRNA were analyzed by using Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR). PCA3 score was calculated as the ratio of PCA3 mRNA to PSA mRNA expression. Diagnostic performance of the fast-aspirated cellular RNA analysis technique for determining prostate cancer and metastatic status were evaluated by developing receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC), and the correlation between aspirated cellular RNA mRNA expressions and risk grouping was calculated, to investigate the underlying potential for PCa staging. Results: PCA3 score was significantly higher in prostatic aspirated cells obtained from cancerous tissues than noncancerous tissues. The median aspirated cellular PCA3 score was higher in patients with PCa compared to BPH, and presenting an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.87 (95%CI: 0.79–0.94) for PCa diagnosis. Reflective practice is a special learning process in which past experiences are carefully evaluated in relation to relevant theories. But its distinct qualities are yet to be defined, making it harder to measure its effect. Moreover, the process is prone to human bias since participants are also the subjects of examination. Grounded in epistemology and dual processing theory, this paper argues that a state of doubt and open-minded inquiry should be included as essential features in reflective practice. Three applications, seeking clarity, being open-minded, and uncovering implicit assumptions, are presented to illustrate the central role of the two essential features.

In this article, we consider a transmission problem in the presence of history and delay terms. Under appropriate hypothesis on the relaxation function and the relationship between the weight of the damping and the weight of the delay, we prove well-posedness by using the semigroup theory. Also we establish a decay result by introducing a suitable Lyaponov functional.

Based on the Particle Flow Code in Two dimensions (PFC2D), an algorithm for modeling the two-dimensional virtual asphalt mixture was proposed in this study. By combining the AIMS scanning technology (Aggregate Imaging Measurement System) with the designed stochastic algorithm, the virtual coarse aggregates could be generated rapidly and precisely. Different from the conventional methods, the contour shapes of the coarse aggregates were rebuilt only to balance the shape modeling precision and simulation efficiency. Then by distributing the coarse particles within container, virtual skeletons were formed firstly. An innovate algorithm was proposed afterwards to distinguish the external and internal area of the coarse aggregates and then model the mastic part by filling the irregular hollow shape with uniformly arranged balls. By deleting the mastic balls randomly, the voids were reconstructed consistent with the actual ratio. In the end, the virtual uniaxial compressive tests of AC-16 were simulated within PFC2D and the dynamic modulus at different load frequencies was predicted. The results indicated that the proposed algorithm could not only model the asphalt mixture precisely but also characterized its mechanical behavior as well.

Focused on the fatigue performance of the asphalt mortar, this study proposed an assessment model for fatigue damage evolution based on the continuum mechanics. From the perspective of the material scale rather than the macrostructure, the proposed damage model was set by concentrating on the stress-strain state of a tiny point which could characterize the material performance accurately. By the mechanical formula derivation and based on the four-point bending fatigue tests, the damage evolution law was determined and then the proposed model was verified. Based on the finite element method (FEM), a commercial software named ABAQUS was utilized to develop the random mixtures consisting of coarse aggregates, mortar, and voids. Eventually, combined with the damage model and virtual simulation of bending tests, the factors influencing the fatigue resistance of the whole asphalt mixtures were analyzed further.

WRKY proteins comprise one of the largest transcription factor families in plants and form key regulators of many plant processes. This study presents the characterization of 58 WRKY genes from the castor bean (Ricinus communis L., Euphorbiaceae) genome. Compared with the automatic genome annotation, one more WRKY-encoding locus was identified and 20 out of the 57 predicted gene models were manually corrected. All RcWRKY genes were shown to contain at least one intron in their coding sequences. According to the structural features of the present WRKY domains, the identified RcWRKY genes were assigned to three previously defined groups (I-III). Although castor bean underwent no recent whole-genome duplication event like physic nut (Jatropha curcas L., Euphorbiaceae), comparative genomics analysis indicated that one gene loss, one intron loss and one recent proximal duplication occurred in the RcWRKY gene family. The expression of all 58 RcWRKY genes was supported by ESTs and/or RNA sequencing reads derived from roots, leaves, flowers, seeds and endosperms. Further global expression profiles with RNA sequencing data revealed diverse expression patterns among various tissues. Results obtained from this study not only provide valuable information for future functional analysis and utilization of the castor bean WRKY genes, but also provide a useful reference to investigate the gene family expansion and evolution in Euphorbiaceus plants.

Based on the Aggregate Imaging Measurement System (AIMS) and the Particle Flow Code in Two Dimensions (PFC2D), an algorithm for modeling two-dimensional virtual aggregates was proposed in this study. To develop the virtual particles precisely, the realistic shapes of the aggregates were captured by the AIMS firstly. The shape images were then processed, and the morphological characteristics of aggregates were quantified by the angularity index. By dividing the particle irregular shape into many triangle areas and adjusting the positions of the generated balls via coordinate systems’ conversion within PFC2D, the virtual particles could be reconstructed accurately. By calculating the mapping area, the gradations in two-dimensions could be determined. Controlled by two variables (μ_1 and μ_2), which were drawn from the uniform distribution (0, 1), the virtual particles forming the specimens could be developed with random sizes and angular shapes. In the end, the rebuilt model of the SMA-13 aggregate skeleton was verified by the virtual penetration tests. The results indicated that the proposed algorithm can not only model the realistic particle shape and gradations precisely, but also predict its mechanical behavior well.

AIM: To screen novel markers for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by a combination of expression profile, interaction network analysis and clinical validation. METHODS: HCC significant molecules which are differentially expressed or had genetic variations in HCC tissues were obtained from five existing HCC related databases (OncoDB.HCC, HCC.net, dbHCCvar, EHCO and Liverome). Then, the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of these molecules was constructed. Three topological features of the network ('Degree', 'Betweenness', and 'Closeness') and the k-core algorithm were used to screen candidate HCC markers which play crucial roles in tumorigenesis of HCC. Furthermore, the clinical significance of two candidate HCC markers growth factor receptor-bound 2 (GRB2) and GRB2-associated-binding protein 1 (GAB1) was validated. RESULTS: In total, 6179 HCC significant genes and 977 HCC significant proteins were collected from existing HCC related databases. After network analysis, 331 candidate HCC markers were identified. Especially, GAB1 has the highest k-coreness suggesting its central localization in HCC related network, and the interaction between GRB2 and GAB1 has the largest edge-betweenness implying it may be biologically important to the function of HCC related network. As the results of clinical validation, the expression levels of both GRB2 and GAB1 proteins were significantly higher in HCC tissues than those in their adjacent nonneoplastic tissues. More importantly, the combined GRB2 and GAB1 protein expression was significantly associated with aggressive tumor progression and poor prognosis in patients with HCC. CONCLUSION: This study provided an integrative analysis by combining expression profile and interaction network analysis to identify a list of biologically significant HCC related markers and pathways. Further experimental validation indicated that the aberrant expression of GRB2 and GAB1 proteins may be strongly related to tumor progression and prognosis in patients with HCC. The overexpression of GRB2 in combination with upregulation of GAB1 may be an unfavorable prognostic factor for HCC.

In our previous work (Journal of Nonlinear Science and Applications 9: 1202–1215, 2016), we studied the well-posedness and general decay rate for a transmission problem in a bounded domain with a viscoelastic term and a delay term. In this paper, we continue to study the similar problem but without the frictional damping term. The main difficulty arises since we have no frictional damping term to control the delay term in the estimate of the energy decay. By introducing suitable energy and Lyapunov functionals, we establish an exponential decay result for the energy.

Objective • The objective of this study is to propose and assess the clinical application value of a nursing intervention method based on the Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change, aiming to address the increasing incidence and mortality of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and enhance the focus on its treatment and nursing in clinical practice. Methods •The study included 120 COPD patients admitted to the respiratory department, using random number table method randomly assigned to a control group (Ctrl group, receiving routine nursing management) and an observation group (Obs group, receiving Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change (ITHBC)-based nursing management), each comprising 60 cases. Self-management, recovery of lung function and clinical symptoms, and quality of life (QOL) of patients were compared in two groups. Results • In summary, the study demonstrated significant improvements in specific parameters among COPD patients receiving Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change (ITHBC)-based nursing management compared to routine nursing management. After 2 months of intervention, the COPD self-management scale scores indicated noteworthy enhancements in symptom management (Obs: 29.12±4.01 vs. Ctrl: 26.53±3.66), daily living management (Obs: 53.77±4.78 vs. Ctrl: 45.21±4.02), emotional management (Obs: 46.56±5.83 vs. Ctrl: 34.10±4.83), information management (Obs: 29.83±5.33 vs. Ctrl: 25.37±5.83), self-efficacy (Obs: 34.32±4.78 vs. Ctrl: 28.38±3.33), and overall self-management (Obs: 184.18±24.03 vs. Ctrl: 170.88±22.66), all with statistical significance (P < .05). The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) demonstrated improved exercise endurance for the observation group after 1 and 4 months of intervention, with scores (380.03±52.47) significantly higher than the control group (351.73±51.26) at T3 (P < .05). Dyspnea scores were notably lower in the observation group, indicating reduced respiratory severity, and the comprehensive evaluation using the CAT scale showed significantly lower symptom scores in the observation group (Obs: 15.57±4.21 vs. Ctrl: 19.25±4.63) (P < .05). Finally, the WHOQOL-BREF scores reflected a higher quality of life for patients receiving ITHBC-based nursing management (Obs: P < .05), highlighting the substantial impact of ITHBC-based interventions in significantly enhancing self-management, lung function, exercise endurance, dyspnea, symptom recovery, and overall quality of life in COPD patients compared to routine nursing management. Conclusion • In conclusion, the study underscores the effectiveness of Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change (ITHBC)-based nursing management in significantly improving the self-management capabilities of COPD patients, leading to enhanced prognosis. The findings suggest that ITHBC holds promise as a valuable approach in nursing management for COPD and potentially extends its applicability to other chronic conditions. This study not only contributes to the understanding of effective interventions for COPD but also opens avenues for broader applications of ITHBCbased nursing management in the context of various chronic health conditions.
