Abstract Converging evidence indicates that extra-embryonic yolk sac is the source of both macrophages and endothelial cells in adult mouse tissues. Prevailing views are that these embryonically derived cells are maintained after birth by proliferative self-renewal in their differentiated states. Here we identify clonogenic endothelial-macrophage (EndoMac) progenitor cells in the adventitia of embryonic and postnatal mouse aorta, that are independent of Flt3-mediated bone marrow hematopoiesis and derive from an early embryonic CX3CR1+ and CSF1R+ source. These bipotent progenitors are proliferative and vasculogenic, contributing to adventitial neovascularization and formation of perfused blood vessels after transfer into ischemic tissue. We establish a regulatory role for angiotensin II, which enhances their clonogenic and differentiation properties and rapidly stimulates their proliferative expansion in vivo. Our findings demonstrate that embryonically derived EndoMac progenitors participate in local vasculogenic responses in the aortic wall by contributing to the expansion of endothelial cells and macrophages postnatally.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) on anxiety and depression among AS patients.Methods: 62 AS patients undergoing primary THA were recruited and separated into two groups based on preoperative hip motion. The 40 patients with hip mobility of 0° were assigned to group A, and others were assigned to group NA. Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating Depression scale (SDS), Harris hip scores (HHS) and 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36) were obtained one week before and there, six and twelve months after THA.Results: The study found that AS patients in group A had significantly higher levels of anxiety and depression (SAS score = 75.05± 2.79, SDS index score = 0.74± 0.02) compared to group B (SAS score = 54.58± 3.35, SDS index score= 0.64± 0.03, P=0.01). However, both groups showed significant improvements in anxiety and depression scores from there to twelve months after THA (P< 0.001). Correlation analyses revealed that the improvement in group NA was associated with hip pain relief (p< 0.001), while the improvement in group A was related to joint function, disease duration, age at THA and spine imaging lesions (p< 0.001).Conclusion: Some degree of anxiety and depression was present in both groups of AS patients. Levels of depression and anxiety were higher in patients with combined hip ankylosis. And their improvement was associated with improved hip function and quality of life after THA. Hip pain relief played a significant role in patients without hip joint ankylosis. We then conducted systematic functional enrichment analyses of the DEGs based on Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and further predicted the interactions of different proteins using the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes (STRING). We used the MCC and MCODE algorithms in the cytoHubba plug-in to screen three key genes in the network, and employed receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves to determine their diagnostic significance using a multiscale curvature classification algorithm. Next, we investigated the relationships between these target genes, immune checkpoint, ferroptosis, and m6A. Finally, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to verify the above results.Results: We identified 62 upregulated genes and 243 downregulated genes. Based on GO, KEGG, and screening results, EEF1D, RPL36, and RPSA are promising genes for predicting restenosis. In addition, the methylation of YTHDF2, the ferroptosis-related gene GLS2, and the immune checkpoint-related gene CTLA4 were observed to be associated with restenosis. The qRT-PCR test confirmed that RPSA and RPL36 are useful diagnostic markers of the restenosis that can provide new insights for future studies on its occurrence and molecular mechanisms.Conclusion: We found that RPSA and RPL36, as useful diagnostic markers of restenosis, can provide new insights for future studies on its occurrence and molecular mechanisms.Keywords: restenosis, immune checkpoint, differentially expressed genes, m6A, ferroptosis

This work aimed to identify whether a naturally derived flavonoid product, DHM, can significantly attenuate metabolic syndrome and improve insulin sensitivity.Methods: 10-week-old db/db mice were randomly assigned to receive the antidiabetic agent metformin (Met, 50 mg/kg BW), DHM (1.0 g and 0.5 g/kg BW) or placebo and were simultaneously fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks. The general status of the animals was observed and recorded daily, body weight and blood glucose levels were measured weekly, during the experimental period. On day 55, the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed. After OGTT, all animals were anesthetized and sacrificed by cervical decapitation. Blood samples were collected in tubes to detect plasma insulin and the biochemical parameters of lipid metabolism. Pancreas histological changes and islet fibrosis were demonstrated by H&E staining and Masson staining, respectively. Moreover, the expression of insulin receptor substrate-1 and phosphorylated insulin receptor substrate-1 in the insulin signaling pathway was detected by Western blot assay.Results: The oral administration of DHM (1.0 g and 0.5 g/kg BW) reduced the fasting blood glucose, serum insulin, and glycated hemoglobin levels and the insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index. Furthermore, DHM intervention decreased body weight and the serum lipid profile. In addition, DHM treatment also markedly decreased the relative abdominal fat weight. Western blot analysis indicated that DHM upregulated the IRS-1 (Y612) tyrosine phosphorylation, improving insulin resistance. Treatment with dihydromyricetin attenuated the progression of insulin resistance and pancreatic fibrosis in fatty db/db mice.Conclusion: In summary, we determined the antimetabolic syndrome effect of DHM in db/db obese mice. DHM upregulates the IRS-1 (Y612) tyrosine phosphorylation, improving insulin resistance. © 2020. XtalCAMP is a software package based on the MATLAB platform, which is suitable for, but not limited to, the analysis and visualization of scanning Laue X-ray micro-/nanodiffraction data. The main objective of the software is to provide complementary functionalities to the Laue indexing software packages used at several synchrotron beamlines. The graphical user interfaces allow the easy analysis of characteristic microstructure features, including real-time intensity mapping for a quick examination of phase, grain and defect distribution, 2D color-coded mapping of microstructural properties from the output of other Laue indexing software, crystal orientation visualization, grain boundary characterization based on orientation/misorientation calculation, principal strain/stress analysis, and strain ellipsoid representation, as well as a series of additional toolkits. As an example, XtalCAMP is applied to the microstructural investigation of a solution-heat-treated Ni-based superalloy manufactured using a laser 3D-printing technique, and a deformed natural quartzite from Val Bregaglia in the Central Alps.

In analyses of urban environments, city-level sustainability assessments standards have received a lot of attention. Many countries, particularly in the developed world, have developed the standards to measure the performance of neighborhoods, districts, and cities in achieving sustainable development goals. In this study, four standards from China and the United States were selected and analyzed within the scope of green and sustainable development. China's new Assessment Standard for Green Eco-districts (ASGE) targets to support China's New-type Urbanization Plan from the conceptual stage to the concrete implementation. LEED® rating systems are one of the important references for the development of ASGE. By comparing ASGE with the advanced standards it draws from, this study aimed to evaluate ASGE's work in adapting to China's national conditions; pointing out the strengths and weaknesses and proposing improvements. The study results indicate that the rating systems of ASGE are in line with China's national conditions, and that some non-technical indicators are forward-looking, but that there is still room for improvement in terms of implementation paths, weight assignment, number of indicators, and index system. Based on these explorations, this study provides suggestions for aspects of principles and methods that could be used for the construction of similar standards in developing countries.

Multiple ecological engineering projects have been implemented in semiarid and subhumid Northern China since 1978 with the purpose to combat desertification, control dust storms, and improve vegetation cover. Although a plethora of local studies exist, the effectiveness of these projects has not been studied in a systematic and comprehensive way. Here, we used multiple satellite-based time-series data as well as breakpoint analysis to assess shifts in leaf area index (a proxy for green vegetation cover), gross primary production, and aboveground biomass in Northern China. We documented increased vegetation growth in northwest and southeastern parts of the region, despite drought anomalies as documented by the standardized precipitation-evapotranspiration index during 1982–2016. Significant breakpoints in leaf area index were observed for over 72.5% of the southeastern and northwestern regions, and 70.6% of these breakpoints were detected after 1999, which correspond well to the areas with the highest ecological engineering efforts. Areas with negative trends were mainly located in the Inner Mongolian Plateau, Hulun Biur, Horqin Sand Land, and urban areas. The Loess Plateau had the largest increase in vegetation growth, followed by the north parts of Northern China where biomass increased more in the provinces of Shanxi, Liaoning, Shannxi, Hebei, and Beijing than Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Tianjin, and Qinghai. Our results show that multiple ecological engineering projects in the region have increased vegetation cover, production, and aboveground biomass that have led to improved environmental conditions in the study area.

Lagerstroemia speciosa (Lythraceae), commonly known as banaba, is a plant native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia that thrives abundantly in Vietnam and has been historically utilized in traditional medicine. Despite evidence suggesting that its leaves have anti-diabetic properties, studies investigating the effects of L. speciosa extracts on animal models of type 2 diabetes remain limited. Herein, the effect of dry extract from L. speciosa leaves (VLDE) collected in Vietnam on blood glucose in type 2 diabetic rats was evaluated. White rats were divided into five groups, each comprising 10 rats. Group 1 served as the non-diabetic control, receiving distilled water, while type 2 diabetes was induced in other groups with a high-fat diet and low-dose streptozotocin. Group 3 received gliclazide at a dose of 20 mg/kg/day as the positive control, whereas groups 4 and 5 were administered VLDE at doses of 620 mg/kg/day and 1240 mg/kg/day, respectively, for a treatment duration of 28 days. Blood glucose levels, blood insulin levels, and insulin resistance indices were evaluated pre-and post-treatment. VLDE at both doses demonstrated significant blood glucose-lowering effects, accompanied by a reduction in the HOMA-IR index and elevation in the HOMA-β, QUICKI, and DI indices, as well as an increase in the pancreatic mass-to-body weight ratio, comparable to the gliclazidetreated group. Our findings underscore the potential of L. speciosa extract as a medicinal therapeutic agent for type 2 diabetes management, warranting further pre-clinical and clinical validation for pharmaceutical development. Background: The content and composition of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is determined in large part by the choroid plexus (CP) and specifically, a specialized epithelial cell (CPe) layer that responds to, synthesizes, and transports peptide hormones into and out of CSF. Together with ventricular ependymal cells, these CPe relay homeostatic signals throughout the central nervous system (CNS) and regulate CSF hydrodynamics. One new candidate signal is augurin, a newly recognized 14 kDa protein that is encoded by esophageal cancer related gene-4 (Ecrg4), a putative tumor suppressor gene whose presence and function in normal tissues remains unexplored and enigmatic. The aim of this study was to explore whether Ecrg4 and its product augurin, can be implicated in CNS development and the response to CNS injury.Methods: Ecrg4 gene expression in CNS and peripheral tissues was studied by in situ hybridization and quantitative RT-PCR. Augurin, the protein encoded by Ecrg4, was detected by immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry and ELISA. The biological consequence of augurin over-expression was studied in a cortical stab model of rat CNS injury by intra-cerebro-ventricular injection of an adenovirus vector containing the Ecrg4 cDNA. The biological consequences of reduced augurin expression were evaluated by characterizing the CNS phenotype caused by Ecrg4 gene knockdown in developing zebrafish embryos.Results: Gene expression and immunohistochemical analyses revealed that, the CP is a major source of Ecrg4 in the CNS and that Ecrg4 mRNA is predominantly localized to choroid plexus epithelial (CPe), ventricular and central canal cells of the spinal cord. After a stab injury into the brain however, both augurin staining and Ecrg4 gene expression decreased precipitously. If the loss of augurin was circumvented by over-expressing Ecrg4 in vivo, BrdU incorporation by cells in the subependymal zone decreased. Inversely, gene knockdown of Ecrg4 in developing zebrafish embryos caused increased proliferation of GFAP-positive cells and induced a dose-dependent hydrocephalus-like phenotype that could be rescued by co-injection of antisense morpholinos with Ecrg4 mRNA.Conclusion: An unusually elevated expression of the Ecrg4 gene in the CP implies that its product, augurin, plays a role in CP-CSF-CNS function. The results are all consistent with a model whereby an injury-induced decrease in augurin dysinhibits target cells at the ependymal-subependymal interface. We speculate that the ability of CP and ependymal epithelium to alter the progenitor cell response to CNS injury may be mediated, in part by Ecrg4. If so, the canonic control of its promoter by DNA methylation may implicate epigenetic mechanisms in neuroprogenitor fate and function in the CNS. © 2011 Gonzalez et al; licensee BioMed Central Ltd.

However, theoretical issues related to the design of measurement tools, especially standardized tools, have not been fully and systematically studied for implementation in practice. In addition, although innovation in teaching methods and assessment is focused on, teachers still face many difficulties in designing and using assessment tools. The purpose of this paper is, through systematizing research and implementation practices, to provide some theoretical and practical issues on assessment according to the 2018 General Education Program, from which some test problems and ways to solve them are proposed.

Ceramic matrix composites(CMC) have excellent application potential in the aerospace field as thermal structure material. The introduction of continuous fibers solves the problem of high brittleness of ceramics, and the interphase. A micro area between fiber and matrix, plays an important role in guaranteeing the high toughness of CMC. In the last decades, relevant research mainly has focused on the relationships between the interphase and the macroscopic mechanical properties of CMC. Due to the limitation of characterization technology, it is difficult to study deeply the micro-mechanical behavior in the interface region.With the development of micro-nano mechanical testing and focused ion beam (FIB) technology, the characterization of CMC interfacial layer bonding strength and its failure behavior have gradually increased in recent years. On this basis, the interphase roles, the influencing factors of interfacial shear strength and the regulation mechanism of interphase were reviewed. The current methods of testing interface shear strength by direct or indirect means were summarized. The applicable conditions and differences of fiber push-out/push-in and micro pillar compression methods were summarized empathetically. The progress in failure mechanism of the interfacial zone was revealed, and some remaining problems were pointed out. The fiber push-out/push-in test can reflect the influence of matrix stress on the interfacial shear strength, but the test results might be influenced by external factors.And the micro pillar compression test primarily reflects the intrinsic properties of the interphase, and can't reflect the influence of the matrix stress on the interfacial shear strength, nor can it reflect the fiber pull-out process.Finally, the future research directions are prospected: further expanding the characterization methods of the mechanical behavior of the interface micro-zone, while clarifying the influence mechanism between the micro-mechanical behavior and the macroscopic mechanical properties, and establishing relevant models, ultimately achieving the optimization of the interfacial zone of CMC.

The aim of this study was to investigate the factors influencing Body Fat Percentage (BFP) among Vietnamese adolescents aged 11 to 15 employing machine learning techniques for predictive analysis. A total of 1,208 adolescents, comprising 598 boys and 610 girls, drawn from nine junior high schools in Vietnam's capital, were enrolled in the study. Body composition measurements were conducted using the HBF 375 (Omron) device by Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis method. The study questionnaire, initially validated by The National Institute of Nutrition, encompassed inquiries related to dietary behaviors, meal frequencies, physical activities, sedentary habits, and nutritional knowledge. A machine learning methodology employing a decision tree algorithm was employed to discern the primary determinants most significantly correlated with BFP. This study successfully identified six distinct predictor groups associated with BFP among adolescents, leveraging the decision tree model, with Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) values of 4.80 and 3.80, respectively. Among these predictors, frequency of fruit consumption, snacking habits, mode of transportation to school, and screen time (computer and/or cell phone usage) emerged as the most influential factors linked to BFP in adolescents. The combination of these factors and interactions with gender and pubertal status can BFP in Vietnamese adolescents. This research sheds light on the complex and diverse factors impacting BFP in Vietnamese adolescents. This study's results underscore the practical importance of promoting healthy eating and exercise habits among adolescents, offering valuable insights for parents and schools to enhance their childcare strategies.

As a novel biometric characteristic, the electroencephalogram (EEG) is used for biometric authentication. To solve the challenge of efficiently growing the number of classifications in traditional classification networks and to increase the practicality of engineering, this paper proposes an authentication approach for EEG data based on an attention mechanism and a triplet loss function. The method begins by feeding EEG signals into a deep convolutional network, maps them to 512-dimensional Euclidean space using a long short-term memory network combined with an attention mechanism, and obtains feature vectors for EEG signals with identity information; it then adjusts the network parameters using a triplet loss function, such that the Euclidean distance between feature vectors of similar signals decreases while the distance between signals of a different type increases. Finally, the recognition method is evaluated using publicly available EEG data sets. The experimental results suggest that the method maintains the recognition rate while effectively expanding the classifications of the model, hence thus boosting the practicability of EEG authentication. [Objective] The Ten Tributaries Basin, an important part of Yellow River Jizi Bay, exhibits a sensitive and fragile ecological environment. Investigating the alterations in land use and identifying the driving forces behind these changes are essential for fostering high-quality development within the Yellow River Basin, which holds significant ecological implications. [Methods] Employing remote sensing images from the years 1986, 2000, 2010 and 2020, This study analyzed the land use changes in the Ten Tributaries Basin using the spatial analysis via ArcMap 10.8 and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). [Results] The results showed a gradual expansion in forestland, construction land, and cultivated land over the periods studied, while unused land, grassland, and water bodies demonstrated a reduction trend. By 2020, forestland had emerged as the predominant land category, covering an area of 6 308.43 km2, accounting for 59.99% of the total area. The highest comprehensive dynamic attitude was observed between 2010 and 2020 at 1.59%, indicating the most substantial changes in land use during this period. The plain area, with its relatively flat terrain, witnessed expansions in cultivated land and construction land. In contrast, due to ecological management policies and projects, the sandstorm area saw a transformation of unused land into forestland and grassland, especially evident in the eastern sandstorm area. A small proportion transformed into photovoltaic power generation areas in the central sandstorm area. In the hilly area, the primary shift was from unused land to forestland, although a minimal conversion from forestland to industrial and mining area occurred in the southeastern hilly area due to the region’s advanced industrial and mining activities. Water bodies within the Tributaries Basin decreased by 75.81 km2, whereas the cultivated land along the coast increased significantly, except in the northern plain area. Land use change was mainly driven by socio-economic factors, agricultural productivity, topographical conditions, and policy initiatives. [Conclusion] Over the past 35 years, the Ten Tributaries Basin has experienced considerable land use changes, with a notable positive shift in overall ecological conditions. The results of this study provide a scientific reference for policy-making entities in formulating ecological protection policies within the Yellow River Basin.

Polymer-based hydrogels are hydrophilic polymer networks with a remarkable capacity to absorb substantial amounts of water and biological fluids, rendering them highly attractive for drug delivery applications. The COVID-19 pandemic has acted as a catalyst for research and innovation in the realm of polymer-based hydrogels for drug delivery, with a particular emphasis on antiviral therapeutics, vaccines, diagnostics, and precision delivery to the respiratory system. The distinctive attributes of hydrogels, such as their biocompatibility, customizable drug release profiles, and ease of functionalization, establish them as versatile platforms for the development of advanced drug delivery systems to combat not only COVID-19 but also a spectrum of other infectious diseases. This study is dedicated to scruti-nizing and evaluating the characteristics of polymer-based hydrogels employed in drug delivery for the treatment of diseases associated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Furthermore, the investigation introduces a novel classification system for polymer-based hydrogels deployed in drug delivery for SARS-CoV-2-related diseases. Additionally, the paper provides an up-to-date evaluation of the latest developed hydrogels utilized in drug delivery for the treatment of dis-eases linked to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, based on research conducted through the recent months of 2023.

Trong nghiên cứu này, nhóm tác giả hợp kim hoá Zn kim loại với Al bằng phương pháp luyện kim đơn giản và khảo sát các đặc tính điện hoá của các hợp kim này khi ứng dụng làm anốt cho pin sạc Zinc-ion. Kết quả cho thấy, hợp kim Zn88Al12 có hiệu suất sạc/xả tốt hơn rất nhiều so với các hợp kim Zn50Al50 và Zn. Đặc biệt ở mật độ dòng điện cao tại 1,0 mA/cm2 và 0,5 mAh/cm2, hợp kim Zn88Al12 có thể hoạt động với điện thế ổn định với khoảng thời gian kéo dài tới 140h. Hợp kim Zn88Al12 khi ứng dụng làm anốt kết hợp với vật liệu trên cơ sở V2O5 làm catốt đạt dung lượng riêng cao khoảng 300 mAh/g ở mật độ dòng điện sạc-xả 50 mA/g.

In this paper, we enhance the adhesion strength of butyl rubber-based vibrational damping plates using nanoscale self-assembled monolayers of various silane coupling agents. The silane coupling agents used to chemically modify the plate’s aluminum surface include 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), (3-glycidyloxypropyl) triethoxysilane (GPTES), 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS), and 3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl isocyanate (ICPTES). The modified surfaces were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and the enhancement in adhesion strength between the rubber and aluminum was estimated through T-Peel tests. As a result, MPTMS showed the highest enhancement in adhesion strength, of approximately 220% compared to the untreated sample, while GPTES, ICPTES, and APTES resulted in adhesion strength enhancements of approximately 200%, 150%, and 130%, respectively.
