Purpose: The research aims to understand the co-existence of nimbleness and resilience in a continuous digital transformation, along with the dynamic capabilities needed to balance the challenges of their co-existence. Methodology: The current study draws on Dialogical Action Design Research (D-ADR) to investigate interactions among practitioners and executives. Data is collected from a major Australian Financial Services Organisation (FSO) and many international experts. Findings: The study presents a framework, the Continuous Transformation Model (CTM), to describe digital transformation within an FSO context, emphasizing nimbleness and resilience as its foundational pillars. This framework facilitates the identification of the critical role of organisational capabilities in managing continuous digital transformation, supported by dynamic IT capabilities. More importantly, the findings underscore how these capabilities enable managers to effectively balance the coexistence of nimbleness and resilience. Research implications: The CTM contributes to the enterprise information systems literature by offering a coherent understanding of balancing resilience and nimbleness to succeed in digital transformation. In particular, the research model elucidates the relationship between dynamic capabilities and continuous digital transformations. Practical implications: Digital transformations are not a one-off exercise. Managers in the FSO context must cultivate their organisational capabilities to achieve nimbleness and resilience during their digital transformation journey. Originality: The relationship between dynamic capabilities and continuous digital transformation sheds light on establishing successful management processes within FSOs.

The cloud computing literature provides various ways to utilise cloud services, each with a different viewpoint and focus and mostly using heterogeneous technical-centric terms. This hinders efficient and consistent knowledge flow across the community. Little, if any, research has aimed on developing an integrated process model which captures core domain concepts and ties them together to provide an overarching view of migrating legacy systems to cloud platforms that is customisable for a given context. We adopt design science research guidelines in which we use a metamodeling approach to develop a generic process model and then evaluate and refine the model through three case studies and domain expert reviews. This research benefits academics and practitioners alike by underpinning a substrate for constructing, standardising, maintaining, and sharing bespoke cloud migration models that can be applied to given cloud adoption scenarios.

Research around cloud computing has largely been dedicated to addressing technical aspects associated with utilizing cloud services, surveying critical success factors for the cloud adoption, and opinions about its impact on IT functions. Nevertheless, the aspect of process models for the cloud migration has been slow in pace. Several methodologies have been proposed by both academia and industry for moving legacy applications to the cloud. This paper presents a criteria-based appraisal of such existing methodologies. The results of the analysis highlight the strengths and weaknesses of these methodologies and can be used by cloud service consumers for comparing and selecting the most appropriate ones that fit specific migration scenarios. The paper also suggests research opportunities to improve the status quo.

Many of the existing theories in e-Commerce and Buyer Coalition assume that all persons involved adopt self-interested strategies by seeking their own gains using environmental/market information. In reality however, such information may not be complete. Also, each person’s knowledge may differ from others. By adopting a collaborative perspective towards the buyer coalition process, this study introduces and validates an awareness-based mechanism for buyer coalitions that generates various outcomes corresponding to different levels of awareness of the collaborating roles within the process, where ‘awareness’ is defined in terms of the knowledge of the collaboration context of the coalition. The theoretical foundation of the study is an overlapping space of Game Theory (Hassan et al. Information Systems Frontiers 16(4):523–542, 2014), e-Commerce (Yang et al. Information Systems Frontiers 16(1):7–18, 2014), and Knowledge Management (Daneshgar & Wang Knowledge Based Systems 20(8):736–744, 2007). The research methodology is design science using simulation software for demonstration and proof of concept. Results indicate that higher levels of awareness of buyers do not necessarily increase total coalition discount but it enables individual buyers to make more opportunistic and calculated decisions to protect their personal interests.

© 2016 Elsevier Inc. Moving mission-oriented enterprise software applications to cloud environments is a crucial IT task and requires a systematic approach. The foci of this paper is to provide a detailed review of extant cloud migration approaches from the perspective of the process model. To this aim, an evaluation framework is proposed and used to appraise and compare existing approaches for highlighting their features, similarities, and key differences. The survey distills the status quo and makes a rich inventory of important activities, recommendations, techniques, and concerns that are common in a typical cloud migration process in one place. This enables both academia and practitioners in the cloud computing community to get an overarching view of the process of the legacy application migration to the cloud. Furthermore, the survey identifies a number challenges that have not been yet addressed by existing approaches, developing opportunities for further research endeavours.

While the concept of crowdsourcing has generated significant interest in the information systems (IS) research community, the application of crowdsourcing for research itself remains limited. This limitation in the adoption of crowdsourcing by researchers is partly explained by the lack of a crowdsourcing platform that is suitable for their needs. This paper presents the findings of a focus group study involving28 researchers which aimed to reveal how such a platform should be designed. Based on the study, we are able to articulate a set of functional and non-functional requirements of a crowdsourcing platform for researchers. The findings will support researchers in design science and computer science to develop an appropriate crowdsourcing platform for researchers.

Despite the importance of the non-task interactions in computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environments as emphasized in the literature, few studies have investigated online behavior of people in the CSCL environments. This paper studies the pattern of non-task interactions among postgraduate students in an Australian university. The CSCL environment in this study includes separate online spaces called the Seminar Room and the Coffee Shop for pedagogical and non-pedagogical activities, respectively. The Transcript Analysis Tool (TAT) was used to code discussions in the above two rooms for three online courses. The findings indicate the presence of substantial number of non-task interactions among students in both the Seminar Rooms and the Coffee Shops. The results also indicate that a great portion of the non-task discussions fall into the categories of Reflections, Referential Statements, Horizontal Questions, and Salutations. Furthermore, the majority of students' non-task interactions occurred during the first few weeks of the semester and then decreased in the middle of the semester and slightly increased during the exam period. This indicates that facilitating students' non-task activities during the first few weeks of the semester is of prime importance. Based on the findings, this paper provides recommendations for enhancing future CSCL developments. © 2012 © 2012 Taylor & Francis.

Social network sites use is increasingly daily. While many health related communities now exist on Facebook; the issue of arising potential drawbacks of online communities is the matter of debate. This study aimed to investigate the content of communication in Ovarian Cancer Facebook communities (i) to determine the users of Ovarian Cancer Facebook communities (ii) to understand the content of communication in Ovarian Cancer Facebook communities (iii) to examine the extent of exchanging incorrect health information and posting negative feeling in patient support Facebook communities. To this end content analysis technique was applied, 10 largest Facebook communities related to the Ovarian Cancer were selected then a thematic coding scheme was developed and random sample of the most recent wall posts and discussion topics were evaluated. Patients with Ovarian Cancer and their care takers provide queries and feedback related to personal health related information like experiences for cancer management; they also provide emotional support but potential disadvantages such as unconventional medical information and negative feeling were infrequent. © 2013 Infonomics Society.

Rapid growth of Social Network Sites (SNSs) use by cancer survivors makes it important to examine whether there is a relationship between the use of these online communities and cancer survivors' psychological well-being. This article poses the question of how the Facebook use as the most popular SNS, may impact cancer survivors' psychological well-being. To answer this question a comprehensive literature review of studies conducted in information systems and health disciplines has been undertaken and a theoretical model is proposed. This study is expected to contribute to the existing knowledge base through the development of a new theoretical model which introduces and explains the ways that SNS use may impact cancer survivors' psychological well-being. This research-in-progress study aims to propose – and later test – a theoretical model to review the impact of e-learning environments on student learning outcomes and graduate attributes. While the use of web-based technologies has increased rapidly in higher education, the different factors impacting on actual learning outcomes remain poorly understood in such e-learning environments. This paper presents the development of a theoretical model for e-learning effectiveness. The authors look through Webster and Hackley’s (1997) four dimensional lens, the Interaction-Based Model of elearning (Anderson, 2003), the Task-Technology-Fit (TTF) Model (Goodhue and Thompson, 1995), and the Integrated Model for Perceived e-Learner Satisfaction (Sun et al., 2008) in order to refine their concise theoretical model. This research concludes with both an outline of the empirical section of this research as well as a broader research agenda.

The ability of academic libraries to produce timely and effective responses to various environmental changes constitutes a major challenge for them to enhance their survival rate and maintain growth in competitive environments. This article provides a conceptual model as an analytical tool for both improving current services as well as creating innovative services through appropriate management of client knowledge in academic libraries. Through an exploratory qualitative case study and from reviewing the current literature in knowledge management, a theoretical framework is proposed for managing customer knowledge. Unlike closed source software development, open source software (OSS) projects are not commonly driven by direct profit and do not offer developers monetary incentives. Instead, OSS development relies on volunteer developers and voluntary contributions from the user community. Thus, attracting voluntary user contributions to OSS projects is a challenging task. Defect fixing is one important area of OSS development that requires user contributions. Postulating upon the theory of competency rallying, this research examines the impact of the defectfixing effectiveness on user interest in contributing to OSS projects. Analysis of data collected from 1481 OSS projects confirms that the effectiveness of the defect fixing process till any period of time has a positive significant effect on the user contribution in terms of defect submission as well as defect resolution in the following time period. The results of this study have several implications for OSS projects' managers as well as corporations interested in adopting OSS software. © 2012 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.

Despite the variety of existing theoretical models for buyers' coalition in the current e-commerce literature, no existing coalition scheme explicitly takes into consideration issues related to the leadership attributes of the coalition. By adopting a design science research methodology and utilizing theoretical groundings of the Social Networking and Game theory, the current article provides algorithmic design of a buyer coalition scheme with explicit focus given to the 'betweenness', 'centrality', and 'closeness' attributes of the coalition leader. Detailed steps for forming the proposed coalition are provided along with related algorithmic designs and explanations for each step. The execution of the proposed algorithmic design and its effectiveness compared to the situation where no leadership attributes is explicitly considered, are demonstrated by using a scenario and associated simulation programs. Results from the simulation programs confirm that the proposed model provides additional discounts for the buyers regardless the number of buyers within the coalition, and with no additional costs to the seller. It is also expected that sellers will benefit from the proposed model as a result of reduced transaction costs associated with the proposed scheme. © 2012 Universidad de Talca - Chile.

This article studies the inter-organisational (IO) knowledge transfer in global supply chains. A representative case was selected that consists of a number of laboratory analysis equipment dealer companies in Thailand and their customer companies in different industries in various parts of the world. Using the theories and frameworks in knowledge transfer in inter-organisational relationships, a survey questionnaire instrument was designed and data were collected from 73 employees of dealer companies and 87 employees of their customer companies (users of the laboratory equipment) scattered in different industries worldwide. Results indicate that the intra-organisation characteristics of the dealer companies which are expected to affect transfer of the necessary knowledge to the customers has no significant relationship with the nature of knowledge that is transferred or with the inter-organisation management. Moreover, there is no statistical significance in the intra-organisation relationships within the client companies perhaps because the majority of laboratory analysis equipment dealer companies import a great part of their products from overseas companies and they do not possess the technology themselves. Based on the findings, appropriate guidelines were provided for the enhancement of the effectiveness of the knowledge transfer process within the wide case study of this research. © 2012 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

While from a technological perspective Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) systems have been improved considerably, previous studies have shown that the social aspect of the CSCL is often neglected or assumed to happen automatically by simply creating such virtual learning environments. By distinguishing between students' non-task social interactions from on-task interactions, and through a content analysis, this paper demonstrates that non-task interactions do occur frequently in CSCL environments. Furthermore, by conducting a self-reported survey, the present study operationalizes non-task sociability of CSCL environments and determines factors that affect them. The findings from the survey revealed that the sense of cohesion and awareness about others significantly impact the non-task sociability of CSCL. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that the perception of self-representation and perception of compatibility affect the sense of cohesion and awareness about others and indirectly contribute to the perceived non-pedagogical sociability of the environment. The findings of this paper can be used in future research for investigating the relationship between the non-task sociability of CSCL and other CSCL factors. The study also provides the CSCL lecturers and facilitators with a conceptual model by which sociability can be explicitly addressed in their course planning and delivery processes. And finally, this study develops and validates an instrument that guides required changes in current CSCL systems to improve the non-task social functionality of the environment. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. With the proliferation of online and distance courses human factors and social dimensions of computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environments are becoming more important than before. Research shows that development of a sense of community among individuals in the CSCL environments improves learning outcomes in such environments. The objective of this study is to examine the underlying dimensions of sense of community. Through an exploratory factor analysis two constructs have emerged: Individuals sense of cohesion and awareness of others. Identification of these factors facilitates a better understanding of sense of community in CSCL environments, which in turn will guide the design of CSCL environments. In addition, the present paper examines the relationships between the facilitating factors of CSCL and the extracted factors in order to assess changes in individuals behavior. These factors include learners characteristics, course characteristics, instructor characteristics, and technical characteristics.

This paper provides a research theme for investigating the effectiveness of collaborative learning in online learning teams in university classrooms where substantial variations exist among students in terms of professional experiences, academic and socio/cultural backgrounds. The research theme is the result of a systematic investigation of the current literature, and deriving factors that were cited to affect student's perception of the effectiveness of collaborative eLearning. The effectiveness of collaborative eLearning therefore is investigated from the student's perspective. The outcome of the present study is a survey instrument to be administered to students. The ultimate goal of this study is to support the achievement of student's graduate attributes by developing a generic survey for assessing the effectiveness of collaborative eLearning initially used by the Australian School of Business, and ultimately to be utilized by similar organizations. © Common Ground, Farhad Daneshgar, Christine Van Toorn, Babak Abedin.

Many previous studies have emphasized the role of the sociability of the computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environments on learning achievements. Also, recent studies have reported that other than on-task interaction, students have considerable off-task interactions in CSCL environments. Yet, more studies are needed to clarify the off-task aspect of social interactions in CSCL and sociability of the environment. This paper attempts to investigate and operationalize sociability of CSCL environments from off-task point of view in order to further clarify this aspect of CSCL. It first reviews previous sociability questionnaires and instruments and then proposes a list of measure to represent and operationalize off-task sociability of CSCL. The proposed list of measures is then validated through experts judges and finally implications are discussed.
