Most dental procedures that use handpieces, turbines, US scalers, airflow, and air abrasion tend to produce aerosols in which the patient’s oral fluids are also entrained, with consequences on the health of the medical staff and other patients. Oral fluids are highly contaminated with microorganisms. The aim of the study was to assess the degree of surface contamination in relation to certain variables of the aerosol-generating dental maneuvers. Material and methods: 2 operators performed 5 simulations of 10 min each for treatments with US scaler, turbine, and contra-angle with spray cooling system. The evaluation of the contaminated surfaces was carried out by measuring the colored surface, in cm, on the paper sheet that was placed on the mannequin, starting from the oral cavity of the mannequin. The measurements were made in all 4 directions (right, left, superior, inferior) to see which part of the operative field is more prone to contamination. Statistical analysis of the collected data was carried out using the SPSS 26.0. Result: Dental turbine operations will produce a significant number of aerosols, the most of them in the form of droplets, spanning regions up to 60 cm. US scaling produced less aerosols than the other activities, with the least contaminated surface. Statistics have proven that the observed differences are different (p=0.000). Conclusions: The surfaces were contaminated by all three aerosol-producing dental procedures at various and equivalent distances. The turbine produced a greater amount of aerosols, especially in the form of droplets, that exceeded the maximum contamination zone with an area of 1m

Quality of life reflects the individual’s perception of his own well-being and overall satisfaction in various areas of his life. MATERIAL AND METHOD: 75 subjects were selected with ages between 17-56 years, in the period 2022-2023. The WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was used to evaluate the quality of life, and the Corah score was used to determine the sense of safety and dental anxiety. RESULTS: The average value recorded was 3.87±0.684 for the way they perceive their own quality of life and 3.77±0.727 for the degree of satisfaction regarding their own state of health. The analysis of the correlations between the level of dental anxiety and the quality of life were positive at a p=0.01 value, these being stronger for domains 1, 2 and 4 and moderate for “Overall Quality of Life and General Health” and “social relationships”. DISCUSSIONS: the subjects participating in the study have a moderate degree of dental phobia and, in general, feel it more acutely in situations where they start to get sick or feel a sensation of suffocation. CONCLUSIONS: the results showed that the majority of subjects had a good quality of life and low levels of dental anxiety.

Aim of the study: the study on the allergic, inflammatory and toxic reactions of the dental alloys. Material and method: Oral clinical examination followed the presence of reactions due to some release elements in the oral environment. Morphopathological examination allowed to assess the reactivity of oral tissues who were in direct contact with dental materials. Results: the subjective symptoms incriminated was: metallic taste, burning sensations, decrease in taste sensitivity, etc. association with general status. Objective symptoms was: allergic, inflammatory, and chimico-toxic mechano-iritative reactions. Mophopatologic examen show atrophic aspects of oral mucosa with decrease dimension and papiles brides, or hipertrophic aspect, with inflammatory infiltration in the corion and distrophic lesions with to break off epithelium integrity. Conclusions: metallic restorations may determine unfavorable interactions between alloys and oral adjacent structures with severe clinical implications.

Use of the internet for obtaining relevant information regarding health is a verry common practice nowadays. The most frequent searches regard: diseases, treatments, pharmacies, and medical assistance. Aim of the study: The aim of the current study was to measure the prevalence of using the Internet as a source of oral health information among the adult population of Iasi, assessing the impact of the Internet in changing oral health behaviours and identifying barriers to using the Internet to obtain health information. Material and methods: The study involved questionnaire-based survey on 70 patients from different dental practices in Iasi. Results: The survey showed that all respondents used the internet for oral health information, Facebook being the most common application used by (53.8%) of them, followed by WhatsApp, used by (40.9%) of the respondents. Half of the participants (48.1%) considered communication with oral health professionals as one of the main advantages of using the social network to obtain information about oral health. Regarding the change in behaviour based on online oral health information, approximately (67.1%) of the respondents considered that they changed some of the oral health behaviours based on the information on social media. Conclusions: The use of internet to search for oral health information is increased. Accessibility and ease of use of the internet are the main reasons for obtaining oral health information online.

Dental hypersensitivity is a frequent condition found in the adult population, and it is defined as a pain which appears as a result of the action of a chemical, thermal or tactile stimulus, with a short duration of time . The most frequent causes of dental hypersensitivity are: sensitivity post whitening procedure, gingival recession, abrasion, enamel and dentinal erosion. The use of different desensitizing substances aims to obliterate the exposed dentinal tubules and reduce pulpal sensitivity. The aim of this study is to comparatively evaluate the effectiveness of two fluoridation products (gel and varnish) to reduce dentinal hypersensitivity. Matherial and methods: The study was conducted at the “Grigore T. Popa” Univeristy of Medicine and Pharmacy, Dental Faculty of Iasi, Romania, Discipline of Oro-Dental Prevention. The study had a duration of 6 weeks, on a group of 30 subjects aged 18 to 70 years with dental hypersensitivity. Tactile and cold hypersensitivity was determined. Subjects were divided into 3 groups for each group using a specific type of fluoridation product: group 1- Placebo (chlorhexidine gel – oral Elugelgel, 40 ml (Pierre Fabre), group 2 – Fluoride Protector Gel 20g (Ivoclar, Liechteinstein), group 3- Profluorid Varnish Single Dose 0.40ml (Voco GmbH, Germany). Results: The results of our study show a decrease in sensitivity to the groups in which fluoridation was performed compared to the placebo group. Regarding the reduction of sensitivity compared to gels and varnishes, it was observed that the use of varnish determined a more significant reduction of sensitivity compared to the gel even after the second application. Conclusions: The desensitizing agents used in the current clinical trial have been shown to be effective in reducing dental hypersensitivity with a statistically significant reduction in pain compared to the placebo group, and varnish has been shown to be more effective in reducing dentinal sensitivity compared to the gel tested.

Corrosion and dissolving of thin films laid on the surface of restorative materials represents two phenomena which take place in salivary environment (natural or artificial). Degradation of metallic and nonmetallic materials is, usually, a combination of electrochemical and mechanical effects. In a watery environment, like the salivary environment, electrochemical corrosion prevails, associated in lower proportions with the occurrence of chemical corrosion cells (uniform dissolving of the restorative dental material). Above these two phenomena, a third form of corrosion takes place in the oral environment, biologic corrosion, held under the direct influence of the bacterial microflora.

COVID-19 infection is a real challenge for medical practice due to the increased risk of contamination facilitated by airborne transmission. The aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge and preventive practices on COVID-19 infection among dentists in Iasi. Material and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted based on a questionnaire that was addressed to dentists with private practice in Iasi. The questionnaire included a number of 36 questions about the origin, epidemiology, etiology, mode of transmission, clinical features, diagnosis, clinical management, sources of information and educational information on COVID-19 infection. Results: The results of the study indicate a relatively good level of knowledge about the prevention methods to be used in dental practice. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals have demonstrated an adequate level of knowledge about COVID-19 infection in the dental environment, with a high percentage of correct answers. There is a strong need to implement regular educational programs and training programs on infection control practices such as COVID-19 in all healthcare professions.

(1) Background: Currently, more and more studies reveal the fact that the use of ozonated oil in dentistry brings visible benefits. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ozonated olive oil by evaluating daily index changes (2) Methods: The available products were used in this study: ozonized olive oil (Ozon Relive) and organic cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. At the start of the study, all mouthwashes are placed in the same type of containers and labeled with numbers from 1 to 20. The recommended dose is one teaspoon of oil, about 6 mL per day. (3) Results: Ozonated oil (Group 1) and olive oil (Group 2) groups showed statistically significant differences to oral indices (p < 0.001 in both). (4) Conclusions: The results suggested that ozonized olive oil can be fully included among the products able to assist in controlling the causative factors of gingivitis while reducing its clinical manifestations.

Background and Objectives: College life is a time when students take more responsibility for health-related behaviors. Aim: To determine the oral health behaviors of dental students, to motivate their transformation into cyanogenic behaviors by applying the planned behavior model, and to determine the degree to which students can modify behavior for oral health. Material and Methods: The results of the initial and final assessment (4 months apart) of the bacterial plaque present by means of the Quigley Hein and API indexes were collected from the student files. The Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II -HPLP II and Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) questionnaires were used to determine the variables with predictor values that influence the cognitive-perceptual factors. Results: For the “health responsibility” domain, the average total value was 2.53 ± 0.9 (SD). For the “interpersonal relationships” domain, the average value was 2.82 ± 0.79. In the case of the “nutrition” domain, the desire to change the behavior of the participants was moderate (2.53 ± 1.19). “Physical activity” represents an important field in the everyday life of young adults. The results of the study indicated a moderate desire for change (2.52 ± 0.97). In the case of “spiritual growth”, in which self-esteem, the way the individual perceives the environment and the adaptation to it were evaluated, a great desire for change was observed (2.74 ± 0.82). Scale GSE questionnaire showed an α coefficient of 28.52 ± 0.82, a value that indicated a moderate to a high level of efficacy and self-confidence. Conclusions: The results of the study showed that students have a moderate tendency to change in all areas, except for interpersonal relationships, where the desire to change something is increased. The participants have a moderate to a high level of self-efficacy and self-confidence.

Aim of the study To explore the relationship between sociodemographic and oral health behavioural factors with dental caries experience in 6-8- and 11-13-year-old schoolchildren from Iasi. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study of 306 in first grade and 278 in sixth grade children was conducted in Iasi in 2012. Information on child socio-demographic characteristics and dental behaviours was collected through questionnaires. Clinical examinations were performed by one trained dentist using the ICDAS II system and caries experience was measured using dmfs/DMFS index. Oral hygiene status was assessed using the Silness and Loe plaque index. The association of sociodemographic and behavioural characteristics and oral hygiene status with caries experience (dmfs/DMFS) was assessed using negative binominal regression models. Results: For 6-8 years old children, socio-economical position, sugary food consumption between meals, treatment and dental pain as reason for the last dental visit and oral hygiene status were found to be significantly associated with dental caries experience in both unadjusted and adjusted models. For 11-13 years old children, oral health status and relatives supervision when child not at school were strongly associated with high levels of caries experience, while all the other factor were not significantly associate with caries experience in both unadjusted and adjusted models. Conclusion: Sociodemographic and behavioural variables and oral hygiene status were found to be risk factors for caries experience in 6-8-yr-old children, while the first two indicators were not significantly associated in 11-13-yr-old children. Epidemiological data can be used for improved public oral health service planning and resource allocation within the region. Future oral health promotion and education programmes should address these risk factors for dental caries experience.

The dental patients’ education regarding the involvement in their own health care, based on the evaluation of their attitudes and knowledge in infection control represents a strategy to strengthen the safety of the dental treatment. The aim of this survey was to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of dental patients towards cross-infection control measures in dental practices; Materials and methods. To assess the patients’ approach a questionnaire-based survey was initiated, a total of 110 patients aged between 16 and 68 years being interviewed. Data was processed using SPSS 15.0 in terms of age, gender and level of education. Results: 83.6% of the patients trust the medical staff taking into account that it protects them against illness spread. 45.5% of the subjects looking forward to the implementation of infection control procedures. 89,0% of them require that the dentists wear gloves throughout the dental treatment whilst 63.6% prefer the protection mask . Conclusions Dental patients’ awareness in terms of infection control must influence the dentists’ choice of using the equipments and protocols in order to adopt the European safety standards during the dental treatment.
