Abstract Studying the correlation between resilience and carbon emissions in resource-based cities (RBCs) holds considerable significance for advancing regional sustainable development. Herein, by taking 18 RBCs in southwestern China as the research object, a carbon emission impact index system and an urban resilience index system were constructed. The resilience was quantified from the three dimensions of “resources - ecology - society”, and divided into high, medium, and low categories. Besides, the LSTM model was utilized to simulate carbon peak scenarios in different types of cities and analyze the specific path to achieve low-carbon development. As indicated by the research results, between 2005 and 2020, the resilience and carbon emissions of Southwest China’s RBCs presented fluctuations and showed an upward trend. Scenario simulation suggested that highly resilient cities were poised for sustainable development and necessitated a coordinated government structure; moderately resilient cities should prioritize clean energy development; and cities with low resilience should pursue steady growth, market expansion, and enhanced communication. Overall, this study provides support for the low-carbon development of RBCs.

Abstract Background Huashi Baidu Formula (HBF) is a clinical formula known for its efficacy against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). HBF may reduce the number of patients with abnormal serum creatinine while improving respiratory symptoms, suggesting that this formula may have potential for treating acute kidney injury (AKI). However, the protective effect of HBF on AKI has not been definitively confirmed, and the mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, the present study explored the renoprotective effects and molecular mechanisms of HBF and screened for its active ingredients to identify new potential applications of renoprotection by HBF. Methods The present study first assessed the protective effects of HBF on AKI in a DOX-induced mouse model. Then, RNA-seq and bioinformatics analyses were used to explore the related pathological processes and potential molecular mechanisms, which were subsequently validated using qRT-PCR and Western blotting. Furthermore, candidate compounds with potential binding affinity to two pivotal targets, sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), were screened from the 29 constituents present in the blood using Microscale Thermophoresis (MST). Finally, to identify the active ingredients, the candidate components were re-screened using the SphK1 kinase activity detection system or the uPA/PAI-1 substrate colorimetric assay system. Results In the DOX-induced AKI mouse model, therapeutic administration of HBF significantly reduced the levels of CRE, BUN, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and UA in plasma and the levels of MDA, T-CHO, and TG in kidney tissue. Additionally, the levels of TP and Alb in plasma and SOD and CAT in the kidney tissue were significantly increased. Histopathological assessment revealed that HBF reduced tubular vacuolation, renal interstitial inflammatory cell infiltration, tubular atrophy, and positive staining of renal interstitial collagen. RNA-seq and bioinformatics analyses showed that oxidative stress, the immune-inflammatory response, and extracellular matrix (ECM) formation could be the pathological processes that HBF targets to exerts its renoprotective effects. Furthermore, HBF regulated the APJ/SPHK1/NF-κB and APJ/PAI-1/TGFβ signaling axes and reduced the phosphorylation levels of NF-κB p65 and SMAD2 and the expression of cytokines and the ECM downstream of the axis. Finally, six SphK1 inhibitors (paeoniflorin, astragalin, emodin, glycyrrhisoflavone, quercetin, and liquiritigenin) and three PAI-1 inhibitors (glycyrrhisoflavone, licochalcone B, and isoliquiritigenin) were identified as potentially active ingredients in HBF. Conclusion In brief, our investigation underscores the renoprotective effect of HBF in a DOX-induced AKI model mice, elucidating its mechanisms through distinct pathological processes and identifying key bioactive compounds. These findings offer new insights for broadening the clinical applications of HBF and unravelling its molecular mode of action.

Introduction Unassisted smoking cessation (USC) is a method of quitting smoking driven by self-determination without the support of professional cessation assistance. This approach may contribute to a potential decrease in overall smoking prevalence within a population. However, the factors potentially influencing smokers’ choice of USC and their success remain unclear. This study examined the associations between mental stress and USC choice and success. Methods Between June and September 2016, a cross-sectional multistage sampling design was used to interview subjects from six selected cities in China. A standardized questionnaire was used to obtain information on sociodemographic characteristics, USC choice, and success. Mental stress was measured by the Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale (CPSS). Multivariate logistic regression models were used to examine the association between mental stress, USC choice, and success, with adjustments for relevant covariates. Results Among 1647 smokers who had attempted or had quit, 91.6% (95% CI: 90.9–97.5) reported that they had done so without assistance, and 42.1% (95% CI: 32.4–61.3) of them achieved abstinence. While mental stress was not significantly associated with USC success (χ 2 =2.02, p=0.1547), smokers experiencing high levels of mental stress were 0.34 times less likely (95% CI: 0.23–0.50) to attempt USC compared to those with low levels of mental stress. Abstract The cost fluctuations associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy, as primary modalities for treating malignant tumors, are closely related to medical decision-making and impose financial burdens on patients. In response to these challenges, China has implemented the Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) payment system to standardize costs and control expenditures. This study collected hospitalization data from patients with malignant tumors who received chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy at Hospital H from 2018 to 2022. The dataset was segmented into two groups: the intervention group, treated with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) alongside standard therapies, and the control group, treated with standard therapies alone. Changes and trends in hospitalization costs under the DRG policy were analyzed using propensity-score matching (PSM), standard deviation (SD), interquartile range (IQR), and concentration index (CI). Findings showed a decreasing trend in the standard deviation of hospitalization costs across all treatment modalities. Radiotherapy exhibited the most significant decrease, with costs reducing by 2547.37 CNY in the control group and 7387.35 CNY in the intervention group. Following the DRG implementation, the concentration indexes for chemotherapy and radiotherapy increased, while those for immunotherapy did not exhibit this pattern. Costs were more concentrated in patients who did not receive TCM treatment. In summary, DRG reform positively impacted the cost homogeneity of inpatient treatments for malignant tumors, particularly in the control group not receiving TCM treatment. The effects of DRG reform varied across different treatment modalities. Although short-term fluctuations in hospitalization costs may occur, initial evidence during the study period shows the positive impact of DRG reform on cost homogeneity.

Abstract Background The effectiveness of palliative gastrectomy for advanced GC remains a topic of debate. This study sought to establish whether palliative gastrectomy has an impact on prolonging survival. Methods We carried out systematic searches in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and the EMBASE databases from database inception to July 2023 to gather studies that examined the connection between palliative gastrectomy and the prognosis of advanced GC. The study employed overall survival as the primary outcome, with the hazard ratio serving as the selected parameter to gauge the association. Subgroup analyses were performed to delve into potential differences within the included studies, categorizing them by study region and sample size in order to examine possible sources of heterogeneity. The stability of individual studies was assessed through sensitivity analysis. The analysis included 20 articles, encompassing a total of 23,061 patients. Results According to the meta-analysis results, patients who underwent palliative gastrectomy exhibited a noteworthy enhancement in overall survival (HR: 1.49; 95% CI: 1.12–1.99; P = 0.006) in comparison to those who did not receive this procedure. There was no association between the type of surgery and the length of hospital stay, as revealed by the analysis (HR = -0.02; 95% CI: -0.84–0.81; P = 0.970). Conclusions Based on this meta-analysis, patients with advanced gastric cancer who underwent palliative gastrectomy may experience an extended survival duration without a significant prolongation of their hospitalization.

Abstract Since the birth of cognitive science, researchers have used reaction time and accuracy to measure cognitive ability. Although recognition of these two measures is often based on empirical observations, the underlying consensus is that most cognitive behaviors may be along two fundamental dimensions: cognitive processing speed (CPS) and cognitive processing accuracy (CPA). In this study, we used genomic-wide association studies (GWAS) data from 14 cognitive traits to show the presence of those two factors and revealed the specific neurobiological basis underlying them. We identified that CPS and CPA had distinct brain phenotypes (e.g. white matter microstructure), neurobiological bases (e.g. postsynaptic membrane), and developmental periods (i.e. late infancy). Moreover, those two factors showed differential associations with other health-related traits such as screen exposure and sleep status, and a significant causal relationship with psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder and schizophrenia. Utilizing an independent cohort from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, we also uncovered the distinct contributions of those two factors on the cognitive development of young adolescents. These findings reveal two fundamental factors underlying various cognitive abilities, elucidate the distinct brain structural fingerprint and genetic architecture of CPS and CPA, and hint at the complex interrelationship between cognitive ability, lifestyle, and mental health.

Abstract The introduction of antiferroelectric filler AgNbO3 into the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer matrix enhances its energy storage properties of PVDF. However, AgNbO3 and PVDF matrix are incompatible due to their distinct physical and chemical properties, resulting in poor compatibility between the two phases. Surface modification enhances the large difference in physical and chemical properties between the filler and the polymer matrix, and improves the compatibility between the two phases. Silane coupling agents (KH550, KH560), dopamine (DA), and grafted poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were used to modify the surface of AgNbO3 particles, and the effects of different surface modification methods on the energy storage performance of the composites were studied. The PVDF matrix was introduced with 0.3 wt% AgNbO3 particle filler. The results showed that the amino group in KH550 had the strongest binding with PVDF. The ester group in PMMA has a strong binding with PVDF. The epoxy group in KH560 has a weak binding with PVDF, while the amino group in DA has the worst binding with PVDF. The compatibility of the two phases in AgNbO3@KH550/PVDF composites is the best, and the charge distribution on the surface of the filler is uniform. Under an electric field of 350 kV/mm, the energy storage density is 8.48 J/cm3.

Abstract Background Different approach ultrasound-guided superior laryngeal nerve block was used to aid awake intubation, but little is known which approach was superior. We aimed to compare the parasagittal and transverse approaches for ultrasound-guided superior laryngeal nerve block in adult patients undergoing awake intubation. Methods Fifty patients with awake orotracheal intubation were randomized to receive either a parasagittal or transverse ultrasound-guided superior laryngeal nerve block. The primary outcome was patient’s quality of airway anesthesia grade during insertion of the tube into the trachea. The patients’ tube tolerance score after intubation, total procedure time, mean arterial pressure, heart rate, Ramsay sedation score at each time point, incidence of sore throat both 1 h and 24 h after extubation, and hoarseness before intubation, 1 h and 24 h after extubation were documented. Results Patients’ quality of airway anesthesia was significantly better in the parasagittal group than in the transverse group (median grade[IQR], 0 [0–1] vs. 1 [0–1], P = 0.036). Patients in the parasagittal approach group had better tube tolerance scores (median score [IQR],1[1–1] vs. 1 [1–1.5], P = 0.042) and shorter total procedure time (median time [IQR], 113 s [98.5–125.5] vs. 188 s [149.5–260], P

Thamnaconus septentrionali has excellent breeding characteristics, is omnivorous, easy to domesticate, is especially suitable for netting, cleans the netting, and effectively reduces labor-costs. T. septentrionali is available in various sizes and is raised in the market at 100 g. Under water temperature of 18–25 ℃, after 5–6 months of breeding, it reaches commercial size. As the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea are cold in winter, a suitable breeding cycle for green fins is from May to November annually. Under natural conditions, the spawning period of T. septentrionali in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea is from early May to early June, making good use of the suitable breeding cycle of net box culture. Therefore, reproductive regulation is required to advance the reproductive period of T. septentrionali. Previous studies have primarily focused on the expression and functional analysis of individual genes. In contrast, no studies exist on the overall expression analysis of gonad-related genes based on histology. Herein, we conducted the first transcriptome sequencing analysis of the spermatophores and ovaries of T. septentrionali using an Illumina high-throughput sequencing platform. Overall, 165, 981, 523 raw reads were sequenced from the cDNA, and 161, 234, 846 clean reads were obtained after quality control. The Q20 of each sample was > 98.43%, Q30 was > 95.25%, and GC content of the sample bases was greater than 52.31%. Our findings indicate that the sequencing data are accurate, of good quality, and were used for subsequent analyses. The obtained unigenes were annotated in the NR (NCBI non-redundant protein sequences), NT (NCBI nucleotide sequences), PFAM (protein family), KOG (euKaryotic Ortholog Groups), SwissProt (a manually annotated and reviewed protein sequence database), GO (Gene Ontology), and KO (KEGG Orthology) databases, and 24, 009, 35, 057, 18, 453, 26, 971, 30, 294, 11, 420, and 21, 613 unigenes were annotated, respectively. The KEGG annotation results were divided into five major categories: organic systems, with 2, 115 genes in nine pathways; metabolism, with 1, 444 genes in 12 pathways; environmental information processing, with 1, 200 genes in three pathways; and genetic information processing, with 1, 128 genes in four pathways. Environmental information processing (1, 200 genes in three pathways), genetic information processing (1, 128 genes in four pathways), and cellular processes (1, 128 genes in four pathways). The number of genes enriched in cellular process-related pathways was 927 distributed in four related pathways. The signal transduction pathway was the most annotated KEGG pathway with 804 genes. The experiment used 24, 546 unigenes annotated in the KOG database, which were then classified into 26 categories based on their function. The largest number of unigenes were annotated in the signal transduction mechanism category (5, 411), followed by the general function prediction-only category (4, 252 unigenes), and posttranslational modification, protein folding and chaperone category (1, 713 unigenes). Unigene posttranslational modification, protein turnover, chaperones; transcription, 1, 613; and other related functions. There were 18, 954 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the spermatophore and ovary transcriptomes of the T. septentrionali, with 11, 265 genes up-regulated and 7, 689 down-regulated in the ovary relative to the spermatophore. The GO functional enrichment analysis revealed that DEGs were most enriched in the cellular component of biological processes, intracellular component of the cellular component subclass, and nucleic acid binding of the molecular functional subclass. GO analysis of the DEGs in males and females provided a partial list of genes associated with the reproductive process (GO: 0022414), sexual reproduction (GO: 0019953), gamete formation (GO: 0007276,), sex differentiation (GO: 0007548), and gonad development (GO: 00084060). To further characterize the specific functions of the DEGs in the spermatophores and ovaries of T. septentrionali, the enriched signaling pathways were further analyzed using the KEGG database. In total, 154 KEGG pathways were included, of which the top 30 were selected. The functional pathways with the highest number of expressed genes were closely associated with gonadal sex differentiation and development, including the insulin signaling pathway, steroid hormone biosynthesis, FoxO signaling pathway, M-TOR signaling pathway, and progesterone-mediated oocyte maturation. Among these, the FoxO signaling pathway regulatory genes are expressed in multiple processes, such as cell cycle control, apoptosis, and gluconeogenesis. The insulin signaling pathway plays an important role in regulating developmental, metabolic, and lifespan physiological processes, and the insulin signaling pathway is involved in gonadal development and maturation. Nine DEGs, bmp2, sox3, figla, hsd17b1, cyp19a, cyp17, foxl2, star, and amh, were selected for real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) validation. The qPCR results were consistent with those of RNA-seq analysis. GO and KEGG enrichment results were analyzed and revealed that amh, cyp17, and star are imperative in male spermatogenesis of T. septentrionali; bmp2, foxl2, cyp19a, figla, and hsd17b1 are essential in female oogenesis and ovarian steroidogenesis. By comparing the transcriptome expression differences between the spermatophore and ovary of T. septentrionali, we elucidated the gene expression characteristics of the spermatophore and ovary, laying the foundation for future research on the mechanism of reproductive development of T. septentrionali and providing theoretical support for optimizing reproductive regulation techniques.

Abstract Sustainable design education plays a crucial role in cultivating sustainability awareness and competencies among students studying industrial design. This research investigates their sustainability levels, reading performance when engaging with articles, and fixation patterns during reading. 60 industrial design students participated in the study. We evaluated their sustainability levels using the Sustainable Consumption Measurement Scale. After reading both theoretical and case article, they completed tests assessing their recall and perspective scores. We collected eye-tracking data to analyze fixation duration and conducted lag sequential analysis on fixation transitions. Students were categorized into higher and lower sustainability groups based on their sustainability scores. Female students demonstrated higher sustainability levels, and students with design experience performed better in the higher sustainability group. While recall scores did not differ significantly, the higher sustainability group exhibited elevated perspective scores in theory article. Perspective scores were generally higher for case article compared to theory article. The higher sustainability group exhibited longer fixation durations in theory article, while the case article had longer fixation durations on images. Fixation transition patterns varied between theoretical and case article, with the former featuring transitions from images to texts, and the latter demonstrating transitions between images. This study provides valuable insights into sustainable design education for students studying industrial design.

BackgroundEpstein-Barr virus-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH) is a severe hyperinflammatory disorder induced by overactivation of macrophages and T cells. This study aims to identify the risk factors for the progression from infectious mononucleosis (EBV-IM) to EBV-HLH, by analyzing the laboratory parameters of patients with EBV-IM and EBV-HLH and constructing a clinical prediction model. The outcome of this study carries important clinical value for early diagnosis and treatment of EBV-HLH.MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted on 60 patients diagnosed with EBV-HLH and 221 patients diagnosed with EBV-IM at our hospital between November 2018 and January 2024. Participants were randomly assigned to derivation and internal validation cohorts in a 7:3 ratio. LASSO regression and logistic regression analyses were employed to identify risk factors and construct the nomogram.ResultsFerritin (OR, 213.139; 95% CI, 8.604-5279.703; P=0.001), CD3-CD16+CD56+% (OR, 0.011; 95% CI, 0-0.467; P=0.011), anti-EBV-NA-IgG (OR, 57.370; 95%CI, 2.976-1106.049; P=0.007), IL-6 (OR, 71.505; 95%CI, 2.118-2414.288; P=0.017), IL-10 (OR, 213.139; 95% CI, 8.604-5279.703; P=0.001) were identified as independent predictors of EBV-HLH. The prediction model demonstrated excellent discriminatory capability evidenced by an AUC of 0.997 (95% CI,0.993-1.000). When visualized using a nomogram, the ROC curves for the derivation and validation cohorts exhibited AUCs of 0.997 and 0.993, respectively. These results suggested that the model was highly stable and accurate. Furthermore, calibration curves and clinical decision curves indicated that the model possessed good calibration and offered significant clinical benefits.ConclusionsThe nomogram, which was based on these five predictors, exhibited robust predictive value and stability, thereby can be used to aid clinicians in the early detection of EBV-HLH.

BackgroundThe implementation of COVID-19 lockdown measures had immediate and delayed psychological effects. From March 27, 2022, to June 1, 2022, the Shanghai government enforced a city-wide lockdown that affected 25 million residents. During this period, mental health services were predominantly provided through digital platforms. However, limited knowledge exists regarding the general population’s intention to use mental health services during this time. ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess the intention of Shanghai residents to use mental health services during the 2022 Shanghai lockdown and identify factors associated with the intention to use mobile mental health services. MethodsAn online survey was distributed from April 29 to June 1, 2022, using a purposive sampling approach across 16 districts in Shanghai. Eligible participants were adults over 18 years of age who were physically present in Shanghai during the lockdown. Multivariable logistic regression was used to estimate the associations between demographic factors, lockdown-related stressors and experiences, physical and mental health status, and study outcomes–mobile mental health service use intention (mobile applications and WeChat Mini Programs [Tencent Holdings Limited]). ResultsThe analytical sample comprised 3230 respondents, among whom 29.7% (weighted percentage; n=1030) screened positive for depression or anxiety based on the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire or the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale. Less than one-fourth of the respondents (24.4%, n=914) expressed an intention to use any form of mental health services, with mobile mental health service being the most considered option (19.3%, n=728). Only 10.9% (n=440) used digital mental health services during the lockdown. Factors associated with increased odds of mobile mental health service use intention included being female, being employed, being a permanent resident, experiencing COVID-19–related stressors (such as loss of income, food insecurity, and potentially traumatic experiences), and having social and financial support. Individuals with moderate or severe anxiety, as well as those with comorbid anxiety and depression, demonstrated a higher intention to use mobile mental health services. However, individuals with depression alone did not exhibit a significantly higher intention compared with those without common mental disorders. ConclusionsDespite a high prevalence of common mental disorders among Shanghai residents, less than one-fourth of the study respondents expressed an intention to use any form of mental health services during the lockdown. Mobile apps or WeChat Mini Programs were the most considered mental health service formats. The study provided insights for developing more person-centered mobile mental health services to meet the diverse needs of different populations.

Surface soil moisture (SM) plays an important role in water and energy cycles. Passive microwave remote sensing observation has become the main means of obtaining large-scale surface SM. Due to its low spatial resolution, the spatial downscaling is required. With the development of artificial intelligence, data-driven SM downscaling models have emerged in recent years and have shown better accuracy than traditional physical models. However, data-driven SM downscaling models still have problems such as poor interpretability and easy overfitting. Therefore, this paper proposes a new SM downscaling model based on physical rule-constrained deep learning, named Physics-informed Soil Moisture Downscaling Deep Neural Network (PhySoilNet). This model adds the physical relationship between SM and the downscaling factor Land surface Evaporative Efficiency, as well as the saturated and residual boundary of SM into the Loss function of deep learning, thereby constraining the neural network. Results showed that PhySoilNet successfully downscaled the 9 km Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) SM to 500 m, and performed well in the evaluations with in-situ, aerial, and SMAP SM. Compared to the downscaling model of only data-driven, the PhySoilNet had better performance in all evaluations, and the metrics in the in-situ SM network evaluation were improved by 20 % for R, 9.9 % for ubRMSE, 7.2 % for MAE, and 7.2 % for RMSE. At the same time, the number of SM predicted by PhySoilNet that outside the reasonable SM boundary range was significantly reduced. This fully demonstrates that data-driven based on physical rule constraints can achieve SM downscaling more effectively. Coupling physical rules and deep learning can fully utilize the powerful fitting ability of data-driven methods while improving the generalization ability and interpretability of downscaling models through prior physical knowledge.

Candida krusei, also known as Pichia kudriavzevii, is an emerging non-albicans Candida (NAC) species causing both superficial and deep-seated infections in humans. This fungal pathogen is inherently resistant to the first-line antifungal drug, fluconazole, and is widely distributed in natural environments such as soil, foods, vegetables, and fruits. In this study, we collected 86 C. krusei strains from clinical settings and traditional fermented vegetables from different areas of China. Compared to C. krusei strains from fermented vegetables, clinical isolates exhibited a higher ability to undergo filamentation and biofilm development, which could facilitate its host colonization and infections. Isolates from fermented vegetables showed higher resistance to several antifungal drugs including fluconazole, voriconazole, itraconazole, amphotericin B, and caspofungin, than clinical strains, while they were more susceptible to posaconazole than clinical strains. Although C. krusei has been thought to be a diploid organism, we found that one-fourth of clinical strains and the majority of isolates from fermented vegetables (87.5%) are triploid. Whole-genome sequencing and population genetic analyses demonstrated that isolates from clinical settings and fermented food are genetically associated, and distributed across a wide range of genetic clusters. Additionally, we found that six nucleotide substitutions at the promoter region of the ABC11 gene, encoding a multidrug efflux pump, could play a critical role in antifungal resistance in this species. Given the ubiquitous distribution of C. krusei strains in fermented vegetables and their genetic association with clinical strains, a One Health approach will be necessary to control the prevalence of this pathogen.

BackgroundTo investigate the relationship between the triglyceride and glucose (TyG) index and cognitive impairment (CI).MethodsFive authoritative databases were systematically searched for potentially relevant studies on ‘TyG index’ and ‘CI’ from inception to 27 April 2024. Two representative databases from the United Kingdom and United States were also included. We used the PICOS criteria to select available articles. All data was combined to compute Odd Ratios (ORs).Results15 studies were included in the meta-analysis (participants: 5604303). BackgroundAttention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder in school-aged children. The lack of objective biomarkers for ADHD often results in missed diagnoses or misdiagnoses, which lead to inappropriate or delayed interventions. Eye-tracking technology provides an objective method to assess children’s neuropsychological behavior. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to develop an objective and reliable auxiliary diagnostic system for ADHD using eye-tracking technology. This system would be valuable for screening for ADHD in schools and communities and may help identify objective biomarkers for the clinical diagnosis of ADHD. MethodsWe conducted a case-control study of children with ADHD and typically developing (TD) children. We designed an eye-tracking assessment paradigm based on the core cognitive deficits of ADHD and extracted various digital biomarkers that represented participant behaviors. These biomarkers and developmental patterns were compared between the ADHD and TD groups. Machine learning (ML) was implemented to validate the ability of the extracted eye-tracking biomarkers to predict ADHD. The performance of the ML models was evaluated using 5-fold cross-validation. ResultsWe recruited 216 participants, of whom 94 (43.5%) were children with ADHD and 122 (56.5%) were TD children. The ADHD group showed significantly poorer performance (for accuracy and completion time) than the TD group in the prosaccade, antisaccade, and delayed saccade tasks. In addition, there were substantial group differences in digital biomarkers, such as pupil diameter fluctuation, regularity of gaze trajectory, and fixations on unrelated areas. Although the accuracy and task completion speed of the ADHD group increased over time, their eye-movement patterns remained irregular. The TD group with children aged 5 to 6 years outperformed the ADHD group with children aged 9 to 10 years, and this difference remained relatively stable over time, which indicated that the ADHD group followed a unique developmental pattern. The ML model was effective in discriminating the groups, achieving an area under the curve of 0.965 and an accuracy of 0.908. ConclusionsThe eye-tracking biomarkers proposed in this study effectively identified differences in various aspects of eye-movement patterns between the ADHD and TD groups. In addition, the ML model constructed using these digital biomarkers achieved high accuracy and reliability in identifying ADHD. Our system can facilitate early screening for ADHD in schools and communities and provide clinicians with objective biomarkers as a reference.

Stabilization of aeolian sand is essential for achieving desertification control, soil and water conservation, and agricultural development in sandy lands. Feldspathic sandstone is a soft clay rock widely found in the Mu Us Sandy Land. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the mechanism for aeolian sand stabilization with feldspathic sandstone from the perspective of particle size distribution. Feldspathic sandstone was added to aeolian sand at different ratios (mf:ms = 1:0, 1:1, 1:2, 1:5, and 0:1, where mf is the mass of feldspathic sandstone and ms is the mass of aeolian sand). The results showed that the soil texture was modified upon addition of feldspathic sandstone. The content of particles 0.05 mm. Consequently, the soil texture changed from sand to sandy loam, then loam, and finally silty loam. The addition of feldspathic sandstone ameliorated aeolian sand, resulting in a broader particle size distribution and lower particle size uniformity. Continuously well-graded soil was obtained at mf:ms = 1:5 (coefficient of uniformity: 54.71; coefficient of curvature: 2.54) or 1:2 (coefficient of uniformity: 76.21; coefficient of curvature: 1.12). While the addition of feldspathic sandstone solved the problem of single particle size distribution in aeolian sand, the presence of aeolian sand prevented soil compaction caused by the high clay content of feldspathic sandstone. Findings of this study indicate that the addition of feldspathic sandstone to aeolian sand leads to the mixing of various sized particles and continuous gradation of the soil. Although a higher addition ratio of feldspathic sandstone is more favorable for soil texture improvement, mf:ms = 1:5 is recommended for practical application in terms of particle gradation and cost effectiveness.

This paper presents the case of a 45-year-old woman who developed aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibody-positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) approximately 6 weeks after a herpes zoster infection. Her initial symptoms included area postrema syndrome, which was marked by persistent nausea, vomiting, and belching. This report also provides a summary of the demographic and clinical features, disease progression, magnetic resonance imaging findings, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, treatment plans, and recovery outcomes of 11 patients—including this case and 10 others reported in the literature since 2008—who developed AQP4 antibody-positive NMOSD following herpes zoster infection. This review aims to improve clinicians’ understanding of the characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of this disease. It also highlights the importance for pain management specialists to consider central pain and use the MIDNIGHTS or VINDψCATE mnemonic devices to systematically consider the differential diagnoses of a patient’s new pain symptoms.

Traditional diagnostic techniques including visual examination, ultrasound (US), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have limitations of in-depth information for the detection of nail disorders, resolution, and practicality. This pilot study, for the first time, evaluates a dual-modality imaging system that combines photoacoustic tomography (PAT) with the US for the multiparametric quantitative assessment of human nail. The study involved a small cohort of five healthy volunteers who underwent PAT/US imaging for acquiring the nail unit data. The PAT/US dual-modality imaging successfully revealed the fine anatomical structures and microvascular distribution within the nail and nail bed. Moreover, this system utilized multispectral PAT to analyze functional tissue parameters, including oxygenated hemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, oxygen saturation, and collagen under tourniquet and cold stimulus tests to evaluate changes in the microcirculation of the nail bed. The quantitative analysis of multispectral PAT reconstructed images demonstrated heightened sensitivity in detecting alterations in blood oxygenation levels and collagen content within the nail bed, under simulated different physiological conditions. This pilot study highlights the potential of PAT/US dual-modality imaging as a real-time, noninvasive diagnostic modality for evaluating human nail health and for early detection of nail bed pathologies.

Objective Analysing and evaluating how efficiently health resources are allocated to county-level Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospitals in Zhejiang Province, this study aims to provide empirical evidence for improving operational efficiency and optimising resource allocation in these hospitals.Design and setting The study employed a three-stage Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model to assess efficiency, using data from 68 county-level TCM hospitals. Four input and five output variables related to TCM services were selected for the analysis.Results The first-stage DEA results indicated that in 2022, the technical efficiency (TE) of TCM hospitals in Zhejiang Province was 0.788, the pure technical efficiency (PTE) was 0.876 and the scale efficiency (SE) was 0.903. The classification of hospitals into four groups based on the bed size showed statistically significant differences in returns to scale (p East (0.844) > South (0.805) > North (0.796) > Central (0.731).Conclusion There is an imbalance between the inputs and outputs of county-level TCM hospitals. Each region must consider factors such as the local economy, population and medical service levels, along with the specific development characteristics of hospitals, to reasonably determine the scale of county-level TCM hospital construction. Emphasis should be placed on improving hospital management and technical capabilities, coordinating regional development, promoting the rational allocation and efficient use of TCM resources and enhancing the efficiency of resource allocation in county-level TCM hospitals.

Background The intermittent self-catheterization questionnaire (ISC-Q) is a valid and reliable tool to assess the quality of life (QOL) in patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) who engage in ISC. The aim of this research is to culturally adapt the ISC-Q and evaluate its psychometric properties within the Chinese patient population. Methods The cross-sectional research was meticulously conducted in two pivotal stages: initially, the focus was on cross-cultural adaptation, followed by an extensive phase of psychometric testing. This comprehensive analysis involved 405 Chinese patients with NLUTD who use ISC. Various analyses, including evaluations of the floor and ceiling effects, item analysis, content validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (EFA and CFA), assessments of convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. Additionally, Cronbach’s alpha was utilized to determine internal consistency, and test-retest reliability was measured using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results No floor and ceiling effects were observed. The content validity index was 0.967. The EFA identified four factors, accounting for 64.953% of the total variance, and this four-factor structure was confirmed by the CFA. The fit indices in CFA were favorable, with χ2/df = 1.999, root mean square error of approximation = 0.070, comparative fit index = 0.916, Tucker–Lewis index = 0.900, goodness-of-fit index = 0.863, and incremental fit index = 0.917. The average variance extracted for the four factors ranged from 0.466 to 0.565, with composite reliability values ranging from 0.776 to 0.859. The ISC-Q showed a positive correlation with the intermittent self-catheterization acceptance questionnaire (r = 0.557, P < 0.001). The ICC overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the questionnaire was 0.821, and the for test-retest reliability was 0.951 (95% CI [0.900–0.976] P < 0.001). Conclusion The validity and reliability of the Chinese version of the ISC-Q have been verified, making it suitable for measuring the QOL in NLUTD patients who practice ISC.

Background: Transmembrane and tetratricopeptide repeat containing 1 (TMTC1) is a recently discovered enzyme involved in the O-mannosylation of cadherins and protocadherins. It has been implicated in various types of cancer, but the overall prognostic significance of TMTC1 in pan-cancer and its potential as an immunotherapeutic target remain unclear. Methods: We applied various bioinformatics methods to investigate the potential oncogenic roles of TMTC1 using public databases. This analysis involved examining the expression, prognosis, genetic alterations, immune infiltration, immunotherapy response, drug sensitivity, and regulatory mechanisms of the TMTC1 gene in diverse cancer types. Results: In this study, we observed that TMTC1 expression is reduced in 19 types of cancer (ACC, BLCA, BRCA, CESC, COAD, ESCA, GBM, KICH, KIRC, KIRP, LAML, LUAD, LUSC, PRAD, READ, STAD, THCA, UCEC, and UCS) compared to normal tissues. Conversely, TMTC1 expression is elevated in OV and PAAD relative to normal tissues. Moreover, our analysis revealed that high expression of TMTC1 was associated with worse overall survival (OS) outcomes in patients with ACC, BLCA, COAD, GBM, KIRP, OV, STAD, and UCEC, but better OS outcomes in patients with CESC, KIRC, LUSC, and PAAD. Notably, patients with TMTC1 mutations or deep deletions demonstrated longer OS, while those with TMTC1 amplification showed shorter OS. There was a significant correlation between the expression level of TMTC1 and the infiltration of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and endothelial cells. Using data from six real-world immunotherapy cohorts of BLCA, SKCM and RCC, we discovered that high TMTC1 expression was associated with better OS or progression-free survival (PFS). Lastly, through TMTC1-related gene enrichment analysis, some biological processes and pathways were found to be significantly enriched, such as vascular endothelial growth factor receptor signaling pathway and ECM-receptor interaction. Conclusions: Our study demonstrates the prognostic significance of TMTC1 in pan-cancer and highlights its potential as an immunotherapeutic target.

Abstract Background The Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a surrogate marker of insulin resistance, has been implicated in the risk of ischemic stroke. However, the interplay between TyG levels, lifestyle factors, and their collective impact on stroke risk in non-diabetic populations remains inadequately explored. This study aims to evaluate the association of ischemic stroke with the joint development of the TyG index and lifestyle in the non-diabetic population. Methods In this prospective cohort study, data was collected across three consecutive biennial surveys of the Kailuan Study from 2006 to 2011. The dual-trajectory model was used to determine the temporal development of TyG levels and lifestyle scores. Statistical analysis involved Cox regression models to evaluate the association between TyG-lifestyle trajectories and ischemic stroke risk, adjusting for potential confounders. Results A total of 44,403 participants were included, with five distinct TyG levels and lifestyle scores trajectory subtypes identified. In the multivariable-adjusted analyses, significant differences in ischemic stroke risk among the trajectory subtypes. Group 5, characterized by the highest TyG levels and moderate lifestyle scores, exhibited the greatest ischemic stroke risk (HR = 1.81, 95% CI: 1.51–2.18), while group 4, with moderate TyG levels and higher lifestyle scores, demonstrated the lowest risk (HR = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.04–1.37), compared with group 3. Participants with elevated TyG levels were at an increased risk of ischemic stroke in cases of pronounced insulin resistance, even with a healthy lifestyle. Conclusions This study reveals the significant associations between the identified TyG and lifestyle trajectories and the stratification of ischemic stroke risk among non-diabetics. The TyG index is a valuable indicator for assessing insulin resistance. However, the potential benefits of lifestyle changes for those with significantly high TyG levels need to be clarified by more research to develop more effective stroke prevention strategies.

Abstract Background Despite the existence of numerous studies investigating the diagnostic potential of blood microRNAs for colorectal cancer, the microRNAs under consideration vary widely, and comparative analysis of their diagnostic value is lacking. Consequently, this systematic review aims to identify the most effective microRNA blood tumor markers to enhance clinical decision-making in colorectal cancer screening. Method A comprehensive search of databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane, was conducted to identify case‒control or cohort studies that examined the diagnostic value of peripheral blood microRNAs in colorectal cancer. Studies were included if they provided sensitivity and specificity data, were published in English and were available between January 1, 2000, and February 10, 2023. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) checklist was employed for quality assessment. A Bayesian network meta-analysis was performed to estimate combined risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), with results presented via rankograms. This study is registered with the International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (INPLASY), 202,380,092. Results From an initial pool of 2254 records, 79 met the inclusion criteria, encompassing a total of 90 microRNAs. The seven most frequently studied microRNAs (43 records) were selected for inclusion, all of which demonstrated moderate to high quality. miR-23, miR-92, and miR-21 exhibited the highest sensitivity and accuracy, outperforming traditional tumor markers CA19-9 and CEA in terms of RR values and 95% CI for both sensitivity and accuracy. With the exception of miR-17, no significant difference was observed between each microRNA and CA19-9 and CEA in terms of specificity. Conclusions Among the most extensively researched blood microRNAs, miR-23, miR-92, and miR-21 demonstrated superior diagnostic value for colorectal cancer due to their exceptional sensitivity and accuracy. This systematic review and network meta-analysis may serve as a valuable reference for the clinical selection of microRNAs as tumor biomarkers.

The rubidium clock，as the core part of the Beidou satellite navigation and positioning system，mainly provides high-precision time reference signals. Its accuracy will directly affect the performance of the Beidou system. The high abundance isotope rubidium 87 is the core working material of rubidium clocks. Its abundance is an important factor affecting the accuracy of atomic clocks. The high-abundance rubidium-87 isotopes required for the separation of rubidium bells in the United States and Russia，two major isotope producing countries，use electromagnetic separation technology. At present，the production of rubidium 87 isotopes for electromagnetic isotope separation in China can only meet a small portion of the demand. With the arrival of the 5G era，the demand for high abundance rubidium isotopes in fields such as aerospace and chip clocks has significantly increased. It will further increase the gap in domestic rubidium isotopes. It is expected that the demand for rubidium 87 will reach several hundred grams to several kilograms per year in the future. By analyzing the current development status of the quantum time-frequency field and understanding the demand of rubidium clocks for rubidium 87 isotopes in the quantum time-frequency field，it provides guidance for the industrial development and ideas of electromagnetic separation and preparation of rubidium isotopes in the future.Promoting the industrial development of rubidium 87 isotope separation and preparation as soon as possible. Through technological breakthroughs and large-scale construction，separation efficiency can be improved and production costs can be reduced. This will provide important guarantees for the autonomous control of rubidium 87 isotopes.

Ganoderma is a large and diverse genus containing fungi that cause white rot to infect a number of plant families. This study describes G. phyllanthicola and G. suae as new species from Southwest China, based on morphological and molecular evidence. Ganoderma phyllanthicola is characterized by dark brown to purplish black pileus surface with dense concentric furrows, pale yellow margin, irregular pileipellis cells, small pores (5–7 per mm) and ellipsoid to sub-globose basidiospores (8.5–10.0 × 6.0–7.5 µm). Ganoderma suae is characterized by reddish brown to oxblood red pileus surface and lead gray to greyish-white pore surface, heterogeneous context, wavy margin and almond-shaped to narrow ellipsoid basidiospores (8.0–10.5 × 5.0–7.0 μm). The phylogeny of Ganoderma is reconstructed with multi-gene sequences: the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), the large subunit (nrLSU), translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF-1α) and the second subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB2). The results show that G. suae and G. phyllanthicola formed two distinct line-ages within Ganoderma. Descriptions, illustrations and phylogenetic analyses results of the two new species are presented.

Introduction Food delivery drivers represent a rapidly growing occupational group in China in recent years. Their unique work patterns such as a complex work environment and high time-pressure may subject them to more severe tobacco use issues compared to other professions. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of tobacco use within this group and examine the underlying reasons behind it. Methods A cross-sectional, multistage sampling design was conducted to select 1879 food delivery riders from Guangzhou and Shenzhen. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the data from August to December 2022. Chisquared analysis and binary logistic regression analysis, adjusted for factors including gender, education level, type of employment, alcohol use, job-related uncertainty stress, and emotional exhaustion, were used to explore the key factors associated with smoking among this occupational group. Results Altogether, 65.5% of individuals in this sample were smokers, with 69.5% among males and 26.2% among females. Factors found to be significantly associated with smoking behavior were male sex (AOR=5.48; 95% CI: 3.74–8.02), education level of junior high school or lower (AOR=1.60; 95% CI: 1.21–2.11), education level of senior high school (AOR=1.52; 95% CI: 1.18–1.95), full-time job (AOR=1.39; 95% CI: 1.18–1.80), alcohol use (AOR=3.91; 95% CI: 3.14–4.87), moderate level of job-related uncertainty stress (AOR=0.58; 95% CI: 0.42–0.81), high level of emotional exhaustion (AOR=1.57; 95% CI: 1.17–2.10) and moderate level of emotional exhaustion (AOR=1.52; 95% CI: 1.00–2.30). Conclusions Demographic factors like gender, education level, job type, and substance use should be considered in designing smoking cessation campaigns for this group. Improving work conditions, reducing emotional exhaustion, and managing stress may also reduce smoking and enhance the well-being of these riders.

Abstract Vaping involves the heating of chemical solutions (e-liquids) to high temperatures prior to lung inhalation. A risk exists that these chemicals undergo thermal decomposition to new chemical entities, the composition and health implications of which are largely unknown. To address this concern, a graph-convolutional neural network (NN) model was used to predict pyrolysis reactivity of 180 e-liquid chemical flavours. The output of this supervised machine learning approach was a dataset of probability ranked pyrolysis transformations and their associated 7307 products. To refine this dataset, the molecular weight of each NN predicted product was automatically correlated with experimental mass spectrometry (MS) fragmentation data for each flavour chemical. This blending of deep learning methods with experimental MS data identified 1169 molecular weight matches that prioritized these compounds for further analysis. The average number of discrete matches per flavour between NN predictions and MS fragmentation was 6.4 with 92.8% of flavours having at least one match. Globally harmonized system classifications for NN/MS matches were extracted from PubChem, revealing that 127 acute toxic, 153 health hazard and 225 irritant classifications were predicted. This approach may reveal the longer-term health risks of vaping in advance of clinical diseases emerging in the general population.

Abstract Different from most of the conventional platforms with dissatisfactory theranostic capabilities, supramolecular nanotheranostic systems have unparalleled advantages via the artful combination of supramolecular chemistry and nanotechnology. Benefiting from the tunable stimuli-responsiveness and compatible hierarchical organization, host–guest interactions have developed into the most popular mainstay for constructing supramolecular nanoplatforms. Characterized by the strong and diverse complexation property, cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) shows great potential as important building blocks for supramolecular theranostic systems. In this review, we summarize the recent progress of CB[8]-based supramolecular theranostics regarding the design, manufacture and theranostic mechanism. Meanwhile, the current limitations and corresponding reasonable solutions as well as the potential future development are also discussed. Graphical Abstract

Introduction: Cochlear implant is currently the most widely proven interventions for auditory rehabilitation for children with severe sensorineural hearing impairment. However, there are obvious limitations in these current evaluation methods. This study aims to develop an evaluation system for quantitatively evaluating the effectiveness of cochlear implants for hearing-impaired children. Methods: A correspondence questionnaire was developed based on an initial indicator system that was developed based on the literature focused on the evaluation of cochlear implant outcomes in children. Twenty-five experts in otology, clinical audiology, rehabilitation audiology, and mental health from nine provinces in China were consulted. The degree of authority and coordination of experts and the indicators and weights of the quantitative evaluation system were analyzed. Seventy-eight children aged 3–11 years after cochlear implantation were recruited from two centers in Hubei province to evaluate the reliability and validity of the quantitative evaluation system. Results: The opinions of experts converged after the second round of correspondence, and the coordination and authority of the expert consensus were met. The recall rate of the questionnaire was 100% for both rounds. Five secondary indicators, including auditory ability, verbal ability, behavioral assessment, learning capabilities, and quality of life, and 13 tertiary indicators were reserved for the evaluation of cochlear implant effectiveness. The weight of each indicator was calculated. The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the quantitative evaluation system based on the standardized items was 0.930, and the three extracted common factors could explain 78.86% of the total variance. Conclusions: An expert consensus-based evaluation system that can quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of cochlear implants in children has been developed with good reliability and validity.

Abstract Background Skin fibrosis affects the normal function of the skin. TGF-β1 is a key cytokine that affects organ fibrosis. The latency-associated peptide (LAP) is essential for TGF-β1 activation. We previously constructed and prepared truncated LAP (tLAP), and confirmed that tLAP inhibited liver fibrosis by affecting TGF-β1. SPACE peptide has both transdermal and transmembrane functions. SPACE promotes the delivery of macromolecules through the stratum corneum into the dermis. This study aimed to alleviate skin fibrosis through the delivery of tLAP by SPACE. Methods The SPACE-tLAP (SE-tLAP) recombinant plasmid was constructed. SE-tLAP was purified by nickel affinity chromatography. The effects of SE-tLAP on the proliferation, migration, and expression of fibrosis-related and inflammatory factors were evaluated in TGF-β1-induced NIH-3T3 cells. F127-SE-tLAP hydrogel was constructed by using F127 as a carrier to load SE-tLAP polypeptide. The degradation, drug release, and biocompatibility of F127-SE-tLAP were evaluated. Bleomycin was used to induce skin fibrosis in mice. HE, Masson, and immunohistochemistry were used to observe the skin histological characteristics. Results SE-tLAP inhibited the proliferation, migration, and expression of fibrosis-related and inflammatory factors in NIH-3T3 cells. F127-SE-tLAP significantly reduced ECM production, collagen deposition, and fibrotic pathological changes, thereby alleviating skin fibrosis. Conclusion F127-SE-tLAP could increase the transdermal delivery of LAP, reduce the production and deposition of ECM, inhibit the formation of dermal collagen fibers, and alleviate the progression of skin fibrosis. It may provide a new idea for the therapy of skin fibrosis.

The morphological characteristics, ecological habits, and physiological structures of fish vary rapidly in the early growth and development stage. Understanding the changes in the postembryonic early development morphology of organs or tissues could provide basic information for the classification or identification of fish and the investigation or utilization of early resources. Morphological characteristic observation is one of the most commonly used methods. The existing studies on the early development of a certain trait in the late larval and juvenile stage are unclear. Most of the digital images are side views, resulting in a lack of dorsal views, ventral views, or local images, which is not conducive to the understanding of larval and juvenile. In this study, the variations in observable, measurable, and countable traits in postembryonic early development of Thamnaconus septentrionalis were explored using optical microscopy and stereomicroscopy. The observable traits included the developmental changes of yolk sac, scales, and notochord curvature. The measurable traits included the growth changes of total length, body length, body height, and oral fissure. The countable characters included the number of fins in the second dorsal fin, anal fin, caudal fin, and the number of pterygiophore. The results showed that at (23.0±1.0) ℃, the newly hatched larvae moved up and down in the water, with a phenomenon of convergent clustering under light irradiation; the pectoral fin appeared at 1 d, and the heart rate was approximately 50 beats/min; the optic capsule was completely black, the maxillar appeared, the oral fissure extended below the eyes, the yolk sac disappeared, and the first dorsal fin base appeared at 4 d; the girdle was single and colorless and began from the front edge of the belly, the oil globule disappeared, and the pelvic fin base appeared at 7 d; the first dorsal fin base and pelvic fin base broke membrane at 8 d; the first dorsal fin and pelvic fin were significantly longer than before, transparent rounded scales were observed at 9 d; swimming ability was improved, indicated by hovering back and forth gnawing pool wall, transversally conical barbs appeared at the base of the first dorsal fin at 11 d; the swim bladder and postcleithrum on both sides of the belly were clearly visible at 12 d; the second dorsal fin and anal fin pterygiophore appeared at 14 d, the second dorsal fin pterygiophore spans seven sarcomeres and the anal fin pterygiophore spans six sarcomeres. There are 10~12 melanin masses in the second dorsal fin and 5~6 in the anal fin, the conical teeth appeared on the upper and lower jaws at 16 d; the second dorsal fin and anal fin were differentiated at 19 d; the swim bladder fills about 25% of the abdominal cavity; notochord curves upward clearly and the stalk of caudal fin came out at 20 d; the fin strips of the second dorsal fin, anal fin, and caudal fin were well-developed at 24 d; the open mouth was round and changed from swallowing to sucking at 30 d, and the rainbow cells were colorful and the body surface near the gill was the most dense; the abdominal cavity has a strong metallic texture, the hard spine of the pelvic fin was degraded, close to the girdle at 39 d; 4~5 black bands were arranged regularly on the body, and the lateral line was consistent with the vertebral column at 50 d. The R2 values of the curve equations of measurable traits were all greater than 0.90. The height of the first dorsal fin increased exponentially 4~30 d. The visual sac increased linearly from 0~11 d to 11~20 d, and the increment of 0~11 d was less than that of 11~20 d, while the increment of 21~30 d was exponential. The oral fissure in 4~13 d and 22~30 d increased linearly, while that in 13~22 d decreased linearly. The total length, body length, and body height increased linearly before the inflection point and exponentially after the inflection point, which was concentrated in 19~23 d. The number of fin pterygiophore of the second dorsal fin was 31~36, while that in the anal fin was 33~35. The number of pectoral fins and caudal fins were 15~18 and 12, respectively. In conclusion, metamorphosis occurs in the postembryonic early development of T. septentrionalis, showing an allometric growth pattern, with a slow linear growth in the rotifer-feeding stage and a fast exponential growth in the artemia-feeding stage. The changes in the first dorsal fin and pelvic fin were correlated with age in days. The changes in the second dorsal and anal fins were correlated with the total length. This study enriches the early biological theory of T. septentrionalis and provides basic data for the investigation or utilization of its seedling breeding and resources. The partial enlarged detail is helpful for scholars to further understand the larval or juvenile fish and perform deep research.

Abstracts: Hazardous waste from industrial production has become a global concern because of its impact on the environment and human health. However, studies on heavy metals in regional hazardous waste are rare. Thus, this study examined 93 hazardous waste samples in Beijing in 2019, to assess the distribution, occurrence, and potential eco-environmental risks of heavy metals in such waste. The results indicated high concentrations of Zn, Cu, and Ni in hazardous waste, and the leaching toxicity of Ni (270.60 mg/L), Cu (524.1 mg/L), and Pb (136.23 mg/L) exceeded Chinese identification standards for hazardous waste. Heavy metals in hazardous waste have been primarily found in remote counties around the locations of industrial enterprises. The total amount of the heavy metals followed the order: Zn > Cu > Ni > Ba > Mn > Pb. Based on the migration abilities of their detected forms, heavy metals were classified into three categories (high, middle, and low migration abilities) to characterize their potential to enter the environment. The detected amounts of heavy metals with high and middle migration ability followed the order: Zn > Cu > Ni > Mn > Pb > Ba. The potential environmental risk of heavy metals was evaluated using the potential environmental risk index, resulting in the following ranking: Ni > Pb > Mn > Zn > Cu > Ba. Daxing District exhibited the highest total environmental risk and environmental risk per unit area, whereas Miyun District showed the highest environmental risk per secondary sector of the economy and unit of GDP. This was attributed to Beijing's industrial structure. The results of this study provide fundamental data for the management and control of hazardous waste in Beijing and are expected to aid in preventing and managing environmental risks caused by such waste.

Infrared thermography (IRT) is a non-destructive testing technique that can detect the internal defects of materials. In the detection of austenitic stainless-steel pipes with large curvature, image noise caused by uneven heating is difficult to avoid. Traditional image processing methods are less effective. According to previous works, a supervised neural network was proposed in this paper using Unet network and convolutional block attention module. Existing image processing method and networks were used to compare with the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method can remove the noise caused by uneven heating, and detect all subsurface defects in stainless-steel pipe.

Van Gogh-like 2 (Vangl2), a core planar cell polarity component, plays an important role in polarized cellular and tissue morphology induction, growth development, and cancer. However, its role in regulating inflammatory responses remains elusive. Here, we report that Vangl2 is upregulated in patients with sepsis and identify Vangl2 as a negative regulator of The nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) signaling by regulating the protein stability and activation of the core transcription component p65. Mice with myeloid-specific deletion of Vangl2 (Vangl2ΔM) are hypersusceptible to lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced septic shock. Vangl2-deficient myeloid cells exhibit enhanced phosphorylation and expression of p65, therefore, promoting the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines after LPS stimulation. Mechanistically, NF-κB signaling-induced-Vangl2 recruits E3 ubiquitin ligase PDLIM2 to catalyze K63-linked ubiquitination on p65, which serves as a recognition signal for cargo receptor NDP52-mediated selective autophagic degradation. Taken together, these findings demonstrate Vangl2 as a suppressor of NF-κB-mediated inflammation and provide insights into the crosstalk between autophagy and inflammatory diseases.

Background: Recent studies have shown that the serum glucose-potassium ratio (GPR) upon admission is correlated with the prognosis of cerebrovascular disorders. Herein, we investigated the relationship between GPR and 90-day functional outcomes in patients with acute ischaemic stroke (AIS). Methods: Clinical data were collected from patients with AIS registered at the Stroke Center of Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine. The relationship between the GPR and 90-day outcomes was analysed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, linear regression analyses, and subgroup analyses. Results: A total of 1826 patients met the enrolment requirements. The number of patients with a glucose-to-potassium ratio greater than the median value increased proportionally with increases in the NIHSS at admission and the 90-day modified Rankin scale (mRS). Summary: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has high metastatic potential and is hard to detect early. This study aims to develop a deep learning model for NPC diagnosis using optical imagery. From April 2008 to May 2021, we analyzed 12,087 nasopharyngeal endoscopic images and 309 videos from 1,108 patients. The pretrained model was fine-tuned with stochastic gradient descent on the final layers. Data augmentation was applied during training. Videos were converted to images for malignancy scoring. Performance metrics like AUC, accuracy, and sensitivity were calculated based on the malignancy score. The deep learning model demonstrated high performance in identifying NPC, with AUC values of 0.981 (95% confidence of interval [CI] 0.965–0.996) for the Fujian Cancer Hospital dataset and 0.937 (0.905–0.970) for the Jiangxi Cancer Hospital dataset. The proposed model effectively diagnoses NPC with high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity across multiple datasets. It shows promise for early NPC detection, especially in identifying latent lesions.

Background: Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is a highly invasive pulmonary malignancy with an extremely poor prognosis. The results of previous studies suggest that ubiquitin-specific peptidase 9X (USP9X) contributes to the progression of numerous types of cancer. Nevertheless, there is little knowledge about the molecular mechanisms and functions of USP9X in the metastasis of PSC. Methods: Immunohistochemistry and western blotting were used to detect USP9X expression levels in PSC tissues and cells. Wound healing, transwell, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), tube formation, and aortic ring assays were used to examine the function and mechanism of USP9X in the metastasis of PSC. Results: Expression of USP9X was markedly decreased and significantly correlated with metastasis and prognosis of patients with PSC. Then we revealed that USP9X protein levels were negatively associated with the levels of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers and the migration of PSC cells. It was confirmed that USP9X in PSC cells reduced VEGF secretion and inhibited tubule formation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) in vitro. USP9X was detected to downregulate MMP9. Meanwhile, MMP9 was positively related to EMT, angiogenesis and was negatively related to immune infiltration in the public databases. USP9X was significantly negatively associated with the expression of MMP9, EMT markers, CD31, and positively associated with CD4, and CD8 in PSC tissues. Conclusion: The present study reveals the vital role of USP9X in regulating EMT, angiogenesis and immune infiltration and inhibiting metastasis of PSC via downregulating MMP9, which provides a new effective therapeutic target for PSC.

Background Emerging evidence suggests a central role for inflammation in cardiac conduction disorder (CCD). It is unknown whether habitual physical activity could modulate the inflammation‐associated risks of incident CCD in the general population. Methods and Results This population‐based cohort was derived from the China Kailuan study, including a total of 97 192 participants without prior CCD. The end points included incident CCD and its subcategories (atrioventricular block and bundle‐branch block). Systemic inflammation was indicated by the monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (MLR). Over a median 10.91‐year follow‐up, 3747 cases of CCD occurred, with 1062 cases of atrioventricular block and 2697 cases of bundle‐branch block. An overall linear dose‐dependent relationship was observed between MLR and each study end point (all P‐nonlinearity≥0.05). Both higher MLR and physical inactivity were significantly associated with higher risks of conduction block. The MLR‐associated risks of developing study end points were higher in the physically inactive individuals than in those being physically active, with significant interactions between MLR levels and physical activity for developing CCD (P‐interaction=0.07) and bundle‐branch block (P‐interaction

The process of formation of aromatic components for agarwood in Aquilaria sinensis is closely related to endophytic fungi and the result of complex multiple long-term joint interactions with them. However, the interactions between the aromatic components and endophytic fungi remain unclear during the formation of agarwood. In this study, precise mixed solution of hormones, inorganic salts, and fungi was used to induce its formation in A. sinensis, and sample blocks of wood were collected at different times after inoculation. This study showed that the aromatic compounds found in the three treatments of A. sinensis were primarily chromones (31.70–33.65%), terpenes (16.68–27.10%), alkanes (15.99–23.83%), and aromatics (3.13–5.07%). Chromones and terpenes were the primary components that characterized the aroma. The different sampling times had a more pronounced impact on the richness and diversity of endophytic fungal communities in the A. sinensis xylem than the induction treatments. The species annotation of the operational taxonomic units (OTUs) demonstrated that the endophytic fungi were primarily composed of 18 dominant families and 20 dominant genera. A linear regression analysis of the network topology properties with induction time showed that the interactions among the fungal species continued to strengthen, and the network structure tended to become more complex. BackgroundMany systematic reviews (SRs) have reported the efficacy of acupuncture in improving Parkinson’s disease (PD), but the quality of evidence is unknown. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehensively summarize and objectively evaluate the evidence of acupuncture for PD.MethodsSeven databases were searched to retrieve SRs on the acupuncture for PD. Two reviewers independently completed literature retrieval, screening, and data extraction. The methodological quality, risk of bias (RoB), evidence quality of the included SRs were assessed by the Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR 2), the Risk of Bias in Systematic Reviews (ROBIS), the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) tool.ResultsA total of 24 SRs were included. According to AMSTAR 2, 6 (25%) were rated as high quality, 6 (25%) were rated as moderate quality, and 12 (50%) were rated as very low quality. The application of the ROBIS tool showed that 12 (25%) SRs were at low risk of bias. The results of GRADE showed that 8 (7.62%) outcomes provided high quality evidence, 23 (21.9%) outcomes provided moderate quality evidence, 42 (40%) outcomes provided low quality evidence, and 32 (30.48%) outcomes provided very low quality evidence.ConclusionThe overview indicates that acupuncture shows promise as a treatment for PD, although the evidence is limited and inconclusive due to methodological flaws and the heterogeneity of existing studies. IntroductionChina is a large agricultural nation with the majority of the population residing in rural areas. The allocation of health resources in rural areas significantly affects the basic rights to life and health for rural residents. Despite the progress made by the Chinese government in improving rural healthcare, there is still room for improvement. This study aims to assess the spatial spillover effects of rural health resource allocation efficiency in China, particularly focusing on township health centers (THCs), and examine the factors influencing this efficiency to provide recommendations to optimize the allocation of health resources in rural China.MethodsThis study analyzed health resource allocation efficiency in Chinese rural areas from 2012 to 2021 by using the super-efficiency SBM model and the global Malmquist model. Additionally, the spatial auto-correlation of THC health resource allocation efficiency was verified through Moran test, and three spatial econometric models were constructed to further analyze the factors influencing efficiency.ResultsThe key findings are: firstly, the average efficiency of health resource allocation in THCs was 0.676, suggesting a generally inefficient allocation of health resources over the decade. Secondly, the average Malmquist productivity index of THCs was 0.968, indicating a downward trend in efficiency with both non-scale and non-technical efficient features. Thirdly, Moran’s Index analysis revealed that efficiency has a significant spatial auto-correlation and most provinces’ values are located in the spatial agglomeration quadrant. Fourthly, the SDM model identified several factors that impact THC health resource allocation efficiency to varying degrees, including the efficiency of total health resource allocation, population density, PGDP, urban unemployment rate, per capita disposable income, per capita healthcare expenditure ratio, public health budget, and passenger traffic volume.DiscussionTo enhance the efficiency of THC healthcare resource allocation in China, the government should not only manage the investment of health resources to align with the actual demand for health services but also make use of the spatial spillover effect of efficiency. This involves focusing on factors such as total healthcare resource allocation efficiency, population density, etc. to effectively enhance the efficiency of health resource allocation and ensure the health of rural residents.

Shikonin, a naturally occurring naphthoquinone compound extracted from comfrey plants, has antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Cell senescence plays a key role in preventing tumor progression. It is unclear whether shikonin has an effect on cell senescence in colon cancer. In the current study, we first determine the IC50 values of shikonin on colon cancer cell lines HT29 and HCT116. Then, we verified the inhibitory effects of shikonin on the proliferation and migration abilities of colon cancer cell lines HT29 and HCT116 using cell counting kit-8, colony formation, and wound healing assays. Next, we identified a series of potential targets using high-throughput mRNA sequencing and identified 210 upregulated and 296 downregulated genes. KEGG profiling revealed eight downregulated genes associated with cell senescence: CCNB3, IL-1α, CXCL8, CDKN2A, MYC, IGFBP3, SQSTM1, and GADD45G. Among them, CXCL8 and CDKN2A were associated with poor prognosis in patients with colon cancer, suggesting that their downregulation by shikonin could improve patient survival. Furthermore, SA-β-galactosidase staining revealed that the percentage of cellular senescence in colon cancer cells was significantly increased after shikonin treatment. Molecular docking revealed that shikonin suppressed colon cancer progression by blocking CXCL8 activity. Based on these findings, we deem that shikonin might induce senescence and exert antitumor activity in colon cancer cells by downregulating CDKN2A and CXCL8. This provides a new molecular mechanism and potential therapeutic target for shikonin to inhibit colon cancer progression.

The relationship between brain entropy (BEN) and early brain development has been established through animal studies. However, it remains unclear whether the BEN can be used to identify age-dependent functional changes in human neonatal brains and the genetic underpinning of the new neuroimaging marker remains to be elucidated. In this study, we analyzed resting-state fMRI data from the Developing Human Connectome Project, including 280 infants who were scanned at 37.5–43.5 weeks postmenstrual age. The BEN maps were calculated for each subject, and a voxel-wise analysis was conducted using a general linear model to examine the effects of age, sex, and preterm birth on BEN. Additionally, we evaluated the correlation between regional BEN and gene expression levels. Our results demonstrated that the BEN in the sensorimotor-auditory and association cortices, along the ‘S-A’ axis, was significantly positively correlated with postnatal age (PNA), and negatively correlated with gestational age (GA), respectively. Meanwhile, the BEN in the right rolandic operculum correlated significantly with both GA and PNA. Preterm-born infants exhibited increased BEN values in widespread cortical areas, particularly in the visual-motor cortex, when compared to term-born infants. Moreover, we identified five BEN-related genes (DNAJC12, FIG4, STX12, CETN2, and IRF2BP2), which were involved in protein folding, synaptic vesicle transportation and cell division. These findings suggest that the fMRI-based BEN can serve as an indicator of age-dependent brain functional development in human neonates, which may be influenced by specific genes.

Elevated lactate levels are a significant biomarker of sepsis and are positively associated with sepsis-related mortality. Sepsis-associated lung injury (ALI) is a leading cause of poor prognosis in clinical patients. However, the underlying mechanisms of lactate's involvement in sepsis-associated ALI remain unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that lactate regulates N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification levels by facilitating p300-mediated H3K18la binding to the METTL3 promoter site. The METTL3-mediated m6A modification is enriched in ACSL4, and its mRNA stability is regulated through a YTHDC1-dependent pathway. Furthermore, short-term lactate stimulation upregulates ACSL4, which promotes mitochondria-associated ferroptosis. Inhibition of METTL3 through knockdown or targeted inhibition effectively suppresses septic hyper-lactate-induced ferroptosis in alveolar epithelial cells and mitigates lung injury in septic mice. Our findings suggest that lactate induces ferroptosis via the GPR81/H3K18la/METTL3/ACSL4 axis in alveolar epithelial cells during sepsis-associated ALI. These results reveal a histone lactylation-driven mechanism inducing ferroptosis through METTL3-mediated m6A modification. Targeting METTL3 represents a promising therapeutic strategy for patients with sepsis-associated ALI.

Abstract Introduction Social network strategies, in which social networks are utilized to influence individuals or communities, are increasingly being used to deliver human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) interventions to key populations. We summarized and critically assessed existing research on the effectiveness of social network strategies in promoting HIV self‐testing (HIVST). Methods Using search terms related to social network interventions and HIVST, we searched five databases for trials published between 1st January 2010 and 30th June 2023. Outcomes included uptake of HIV testing, HIV prevalence and linkage to antiretroviral therapy (ART) or HIV care. We used network meta‐analysis to assess the uptake of HIV testing through social network strategies compared with control methods. A pairwise meta‐analysis of studies with a comparison arm that reported outcomes was performed to assess relative risks (RR) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results Among the 4496 manuscripts identified, 39 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria, including one quasi‐experimental study, 22 randomized controlled trials and 16 observational studies. Networks HIVST testing was organized by peers (distributed to known peers, 15 studies), partners (distributed to their sexual partners, 16 studies) and peer educators (distributed to unknown peers, 8 studies). Among social networks, simulating the possibilities of ranking position, peer distribution had the highest uptake of HIV testing (84% probability), followed by partner distribution (80% probability) and peer educator distribution (74% probability). Pairwise meta‐analysis showed that peer distribution (RR 2.29, 95% CI 1.54−3.39, 5 studies) and partner distribution (RR 1.76, 95% CI 1.50−2.07, 10 studies) also increased the probability of detecting HIV reactivity during testing within the key population when compared to the control. Discussion All of the three social network distribution strategies enhanced the uptake of HIV testing compared to standard facility‐based testing. Linkage to ART or HIV care remained comparable to facility‐based testing across the three HIVST distribution strategies. Conclusions Network‐based HIVST distribution is considered effective in augmenting HIV testing rates and reaching marginalized populations compared to facility‐based testing. These strategies can be integrated with the existing HIV care services, to fill the testing gap among key populations globally. PROSPERO Number CRD42022361782

BackgroundThis study aimed to assess the scientific results and activities of premature beats research from a global perspective.MethodsPublications related to premature beats published between 2003 and 2024 were identified and selected from the Web of Science core collection. VOSviewer was used to conduct co-authorship, co-citation, and co-occurrence analyses of the authors, organizations, countries/regions, references, sources, cited authors, and keywords.ResultsIn total, 5,283 publications on the topic of premature beats were identified from the Web of Science core collection. The number of publications on this topic has steadily grown since 2003. Fred Morady, Frank Bogun and Krit Jongnarangsin were the top three researchers with the strongest total link strengths. The University of Washington, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Minnesota are the top three organizations with the strongest total link strengths. The United States has made the greatest contributions to the field of premature beats. Haïssaguerre, M et al.'s publication in The New England Journal of Medicine in 1998 entitled “Spontaneous initiation of atrial fibrillation by ectopic beats originating in the pulmonary veins” is the most cited reference. The most cited references come from the journal named Circulation. Haïssaguerre, M has the highest number of citations. The keywords for all current publications can be divided into four categories: “mortality rate,” “risk and prevention,” “mechanism,” and “classification and treatment.”ConclusionsThis bibliometric study provides insights into the current status and research trends in premature beats over more than 20 years. Future research will focus on an in-depth exploration of the nature of premature beats, especially ventricular premature beats, mastering the development law of premature beats, and optimizing existing detection methods.

In this paper, the high density of magnetite and the high crystal water content of serpentine are used to configure concrete with high temperature resistance, gamma ray shielding and neutron shielding properties, and adjust the proportion of magnetite and serpentine to prepare five different proportions of serpentine magnetite mixed concrete, then studies the compressive strength of mixed concrete with different proportions; splitting tensile strength; quality loss; hydrogen content; γ radiation shielding performance; ultrasonic pulse velocity. The results show that the compressive strength of the mixed concrete increases from 31.5 MPa to 40 MPa, the linear attenuation coefficient of γ-ray increases from 0.17 to 0.259, and the hydrogen content decreases from 1.5989 % to 0.3778 % with the increase of magnetite content in the aggregate. Under different mix ratios, with the increase of heating temperature, various properties of mixed concrete gradually decrease, the minimum ultrasonic wave speed of concrete will drop to 24.1 % of the original wave speed, and the minimum compressive strength will drop to 25.1 % of the compressive strength at normal temperature. However, before the heating temperature of 600°C, the compressive strength can still be maintained at more than 75 % of the normal temperature compressive strength.The concrete above has good thermal stability.
