As the critical component of a nuclear power plant (NPP), the reactor coolant pump (RCP) will suffer energy losses during operation, which can lead to a series of safety issues and adversely affect the efficiency and stability of the NPP. In this study, the SST k-ω turbulence model is utilized to simulate the internal flow field of an axial-flow reactor coolant pump (RCP) under operating conditions of 0.8QN to 1.2QN. Combined with entropy production theory, the distribution characteristics and hydraulic causes of energy loss within different regions of the RCP are revealed. The research findings are as follows: the total entropy production in the RCP first decreases and then increases during operation; with turbulent entropy production consistently accounting for over 70% of the total, and direct entropy production accounting for less than 10%. The impeller and annular casing are always the main components responsible for hydraulic losses within the pump. As the flow rate increases, the total entropy production in the impeller initially decreases and then increases, accounting for between 34.3% and 51% of the total; with energy losses mainly concentrated on the suction side of the impeller blades. The total entropy production in the annular casing gradually increases under operating conditions ranging from 0.8QN to 1.2QN, accounting for between 20.4% and 50.3% of the total. Rotor-stator interaction (RSI), backflow, and flow separation near the volute tongue are significant causes of energy losses within the annular casing. Optimizing the geometric parameters of the impeller and annular casing is an effective way to reduce flow losses in axial-flow RCPs. The research results can provide a reference for the development of optimization techniques for RCPs.

Abstract The high‐temperature molten salt pump (MSP) is the core equipment of the thermal storage system for concentrating solar power plants, which circulates the molten salt of the thermal storage medium. This study employs numerical simulation of a two‐stage MSP with a storage tank to find the correlation between pressure pulsations and the evolutions of vortical structures based on renormalization group k‐ε turbulence model. It is shown that rotor/stator interaction is the most significant excitation source of pressure pulsations with the prominent excitations being the diffuser passing frequency (fDPF) in the impeller and the blade passing frequency (fBPF). Furthermore, Q‐criterion is employed to capture the periodic shedding vortexes with a frequency of about 3fR at the suction surface and the trailing edge in diffusers. Impinging vortex and shedding vortex with the frequency 6fR on the leading edge of the diffuser is captured. The vortex shedding characteristics are significantly different under various conditions, and the separation vortexes appear at the leading edge of pressure surface in the diffusers at higher flow rates. Finally, it is obvious that the excited components and their magnitudes in the pressure spectrum are closely associated with the unsteady vortical structures within the model pump.

Abstract Background Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a group of clonal disorders characterized by ineffective and dysplastic hematopoiesis in the bone marrow with a high risk of progression to leukemia. Many studies have demonstrated that chemo-radiotherapy for cancer patients and exposure to certain chemicals may increase the risk of secondary MDS, which is characterized by specific chromosomal abnormalities and genomic alterations. Since next-generation sequencing (NGS) has been widely used for the diagnosis of cancer patients, advanced analysis of the sequencing data may provide supplementary information for secondary MDS. Case presentation A male patient with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and bone metastases has presented distal obstructive inflammation, the enlargement of the left hilar, mediastinal lymph node metastases, and multiple bone metastases. This patient has undergone long-term exposures to certain chemicals. Moreover, the deletion of chromosome 7 and 5q is detected in his peripheral blood sequencing, indicating secondary MDS, subsequently confirmed by bone marrow examination. Conclusion In this case, an NSCLC patient was diagnosed with secondary MDS via NGS analysis, indicating that the NGS analysis may serve as supplementary for diagnosis of secondary MDS and provide useful information of therapeutic regimens for subsequent-line treatment of EGFR-mutated lung cancer. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of acquired MDS in a lung adenocarcinoma patient.

Cryogenic cavitation exhibits complexities primarily represented by the coupled interactions of thermodynamic effects, vortices, and cavities during the cavitation process. To further investigate this coupling mechanism, this study employed the DDES turbulence model and Sauer–Schnerr cavitation model to perform unsteady numerical simulations of liquid nitrogen cavitation flow around the NACA0015 Hydrofoil. Numerical validation of the model utilized a symmetrical Hord hydrofoil. The results reveal that the upstream development of the recirculation flow under inverse pressure gradients is the fundamental cause of the detachment in the primary cavitation region. At a cavitation number of 0.616, thermodynamic effects noticeably suppress the formation of cavities and alter the range of adverse pressure gradients, consequently influencing the detachment behavior in the primary cavitation region.

As the core component of the flow-making system, the circulating pump has differences in its internal flow structure under different operating conditions, which affects the flow quality of the environmental simulation test area and the authenticity of marine environmental simulation. To explore the internal flow characteristics and outlet evolution characteristics of the circulating pump, this paper uses the DDES (delayed detached eddy simulation) method for numerical simulation. This paper combines BVF (boundary vorticity flow) diagnosis and the limit streamline method to analyze the evolution characteristics of the unstable flow area on the blade surface; it uses the Q criterion to identify the vortex structure inside the pump and analyze its evolution and development laws. Additionally, a quantitative analysis of the flow state of the circulating pump using flow uniformity indexes is performed. The results show that the surface of impeller blades is uniform under 1.0 QN. At 0.7 QN, the evolution process of the blade suction surface BVF is periodic, with a corresponding period of about 2/9 T (0.02 s). At 1.0 QN, the strength and scale of the separated vortices inside the guide vanes are minimized compared to other flow rates, and the scale and strength of the vortices show a decreasing trend along the outer normal direction. The evolution period of the separation vortex on the pressure surface of the guide vane is about 1/3 T (0.033 s) under 1.1 QN and the evolution period of the suction surface of the guide vane is about 2/3 T (0.067 s) under 0.7 QN. The flow uniformity indexes value downstream of the pump outlet under 1.0 QN are very close to the ideal value; with a corresponding value of Ϛi = 0.023, θ¯ = 89.94°, γ = 0.95, λ = 97.9%, the outflow can be approximately regarded as axial uniform flow. The research results can provide theoretical support for the further optimization design of circulating pumps and lay the foundation for the implementation of real systems.

The nuclear reactor coolant pump (RCP) is the core piece of equipment of a nuclear power plant (NPP). The energy performance and internal flow characteristics of RCPs are revealed by effective measurement methods, which are helpful to understand the flow mechanism of RCPs. The present work is intended to conduct an integrated study based on the energy performance test and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) flow-field non-contact measurement of the RCP. In addition, the prediction results of different turbulence models are compared with experimental results in detail. Through energy performance measurement and numerical calculation analysis, it can be found that various turbulence models have the ability to predict the performance of RCPs in engineering applications. At 0.8~1.2 Φd operating conditions, the maximum error is less than 10% and the minimum error is less than 0.1% by analyzing the energy performance of numerical calculations and experimental results. The PIV results show that the velocity of the discharge nozzle varies greatly from right (outlet of diffuser channel 2) to left (outlet of diffuser channel 12) due to different flow structures. Through the qualitative and quantitative comparison of the internal flow field, it can be concluded that, except for the low flow rate, compared with other computational models, the Realizable k-ε model can better predict the internal flow field of an RCP. The reasons for the experimental error and numerical calculation error are analyzed in detail, and the results can provide a reference for forecasting an RCP internal flow field with a special and complex structure.

A free-standing and highly conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanowire (NW) film was used as a working electrode for electrodepositing tellurium (Te). By adjusting the electrodeposition time, the thermoelectric (TE) performance of the free-standing hybrid film was optimized. The maximum power factor of 240.0 μW m−1 K−2 (with the electrical conductivity of 561.4 S cm−1 and the Seebeck coefficient of 65.4 μV K−1) was obtained from a hybrid film electrodeposited for 7 h, which was 8 times higher than that of the pristine PEDOT NW film. In addition, the electrical conductivity of the film almost did not change even after being bent for 400 times around a rod with radius of 4 mm, indicating an excellent flexibility. This work offers a facile approach to prepare multilayered TE films, and desirable combination of excellent flexibility, high electrical conductivity, and facile process scalability makes the free-standing PEDOT NW film particularly promising for portable and flexible electronics. Abstract To solve the severe flow‐induced vibration during the pump operation, the impeller cut is a reasonable and operable approach. In the present study, effects of cutting the blade on the pump performance, especially for pressure pulsations, are conducted by experiments, and numerical results are used to discuss the relation between the internal flow and pressure pulsation. Three cutting angles are investigated, and the obtained results are compared with the original pump. Pressure transducers are mounted on the volute wall and outlet to capture pressure signals of different pumps. Results show that at the cutting angle φ = 15°, pump heads at low flow rates are decreased, which are little affected at high flow rates. With the cutting angles increasing to φ = 25° and φ = 35°, cutting the blade contributes to the reductions of pump heads at all the measured flow rates. Pressure pulsations are significantly affected by cutting the blade. For major measuring points on the volute wall, pressure amplitudes at the blade passing frequency fBPF are attenuated by cutting the blade, especially at high flow rates. Mean pressure amplitude at fBPF is decreased by 38.6% at φ = 15°, which is caused by the increasing gap between the tongue and the blade. From comparison, it is suggested that the cut angle φ = 15° can be used to reduce pressure pulsation considering its little influence on the pump head during application. The obtained results will be useful during the pump operation to reduce pressure pulsations by the blade cut approach.

For the centrifugal pump, the rotor–stator interaction (RSI) induces high-energy pressure pulsation, which directly affects the stability of systems and equipment. Therefore, this work proposes a new staggered impeller structure to suppress high-energy pressure pulsation in centrifugal pumps. The original impeller blade is divided into two layers and is staggered at 10°, 20° and 30° to form a staggered impeller. The dynamic pressure pulsation characteristics of both the original impeller and the staggered impeller are predicted using large eddy simulation (LES). The results indicate that the uniform staggered arrangement of blades can significantly reduce the pressure pulsation energy in the pump by 54.69% under the design conditions, while also achieving the best performance. Even under off-design conditions, the pressure pulsation energy can still be effectively suppressed by the staggered blades. The study of the time–frequency domain of the monitoring points near the tongue found that the phase difference in the pressure fluctuation caused by the RSI between the staggered impeller and the tongue prevents the superposition of pressure pulsation energy and efficiently suppresses it in the pump. The results can provide a reference for optimizing low-vibration-noise pump impellers in engineering applications.

Turbulent flow, mainly originating from the rotor-stator interaction (RSI), is closely associated with the normal and safe operation of the centrifugal pump. In the current research, to clarify turbulent flow in the centrifugal pump with a vaned diffuser, the non-intrusive LDA (Laser Doppler Anemometry) system is applied to measure velocity pulsation signals at different regions when the pump operates at various flow rates. Time and frequency domain analysis methods are combined to investigate the velocity signals, and the velocity distribution around the volute tongue region is reconstructed from twenty measuring points. Results show that the velocity spectrum is characterized by the discrete components at the blade passing frequency and its higher harmonics, and it is caused by the RSI between the impeller and the diffuser. For the points in the volute spiral and diffusion sections, due to the significantly reduced RSI effect, the velocity spectrum shows an evident difference from comparison with the points between the impeller and diffuser, and the blade passing frequency is not always the dominant frequency. The comparison of velocity amplitudes and RMS* (root mean square of velocity) values at different points proves that the measuring position and flow rate affect velocity pulsations. As observed from velocity distribution reconstructed by LDA signals, high velocity regions are developed downstream of the diffuser channel for all the measured flow rates.

Unsteady pressure-pulsation-induced severe vibration and high alternating stress can cause some unexpected results, including impeller crack and structural damage of the entire pumping system. In the present paper, a review on pressure pulsations in pumps is carried out based on the published studies. A comprehensive view on pressure pulsations from several aspects is discussed in detail. The contents of the studies include the mechanism of rotor–stator interaction; a prediction model and experimental and numerical investigations of pressure pulsations; unsteady rotating-stall-induced pressure pulsations at off-design flow rates; the relationship between pressure pulsation and the internal flow structure and cavitation; and the reduction in pressure pulsation caused by some effective approaches. It is concluded that unsteady pressure pulsation in pumps is closely associated with complex flow structures, for instance flow separation, cavitation, and rotating stall. The rotor–stator interaction mainly dominates pressure pulsation characterized by the discrete components in pressure spectrum. To reduce pressure pulsation, some effective approaches are proposed, such as increasing the rotor–stator gap, staggered blade, and blade modification. Finally, several suggestions for future works are given and discussed considering the current research. The review contributes to better understanding of pressure pulsations in centrifugal pumps, and may also benefit engineers in controlling pressure pulsations in some fields, such as pumps in nuclear reactor.

High−energy pressure pulsation induced by rotor−stator interaction (RSI) is the primary source of flow−induced vibration noise in the pump, affecting the pump’s stability and system operation. In order to find an effective method to suppress the pressure pulsation in the pump caused by RSI, a new staggered impeller is proposed in this paper, which can significantly suppress the pressure pulsation energy. The unsteady pressure pulsation characteristic of the original impeller and the staggered impeller scheme are measured and analyzed under different working flow conditions. The results show that although the hydraulic performance of the model pump decreases to a certain extent when the staggered impeller is used, the pressure pulsation energy in the pump decreases significantly. Under 0.8QN–1.2QN working flow conditions, the energy suppression effect of the blade passing frequency (fbpf) amplitude is higher than 80% with the staggered impeller scheme. The Root Mean Square (RMS) values for distribution of pressure pulsation in different frequency bands varies greatly, and the pressure pulsation energy near the tongue is prominent. On a broader frequency band (0–6 fbpf), the pressure pulsation energy of the staggered impeller scheme is smaller than that of the original impeller scheme. With the expansion of the frequency band, the pressure pulsation energy decreased steadily, with a minimum decrease of 37.33%.

Immunotherapy has been an emerging treatment for metastatic melanoma and several other malignancies since 2015. Hematological immune-mediated adverse effects from immunotherapy are rarely reported but they can cause serious harm to patients. Antibodies such as ipilimumab, nivolumab and pembrolizumab target different immune checkpoints to promote T cell anti-tumour response. In particular, pembrolizumab is an antibody that inhibits programmed cell death receptor 1 (PD-1) to upregulate tumour suppression. In this report, we present a case of pembrolizumab-induced autoimmune hemolytic anemia and pancytopenia in a patient who was receiving pembrolizumab treatment for metastatic melanoma. This patient has a history of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in 2017. He developed symptomatic AIHA and pancytopenia after receiving 8 cycles of pembrolizumab in 2018. Pembrolizumab treatment was discontinued and he was treated with blood transfusion and prednisone. After 5 months of tapering prednisone treatment, his anemia and pancytopenia have improved toward successful recovery. Cancer patients already face an increased risk of immunosuppression with conventional chemotherapy. This case report also summarized all reported cases of PD-1 inhibitor hematological adverse effects in the treatment of oncological diseases. These incidents reflect the risk of immune-mediated hematologic adverse effects, which should be considered in all patients using immunotherapy.

Existing studies mainly explore the antecedents and distal outcomes of voice behavior of employees. Less is known about what may occur after supervisors endorse ideas of employees. Based on the conservation of resources theory, we explored how and when voice endorsement affects job performance and voice behavior of employees. With the sample of 444 matched supervisor–subordinate pairs from a large organization, we found that voice endorsement of supervisors positively influences voice behavior and job performance of employees through the mediating effects of positive mood and work engagement. Additionally, we found that the voice commitment of employees strengthens the influence of voice endorsement of supervisors on positive mood of employees. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Drawing on implicit leadership theory and the mindfulness literature, we propose that perceived authentic leadership mediates the relationship between follower mindfulness and follower well-being. Leader mindfulness plays a moderating role in this process. We validated these hypotheses with the two-wave data from 56 leaders and 275 followers in two private enterprises located in China. We used Mplus 8.0 to test our hypotheses. Consistent with our hypotheses, the results showed that perceived authentic leadership mediated the positive relationship between follower mindfulness and follower well-being. Higher leader mindfulness enhanced the effect of follower mindfulness on perceived authentic leadership and also strengthened the indirect effect of follower mindfulness on follower well-being via perceived authentic leadership. The theoretical and managerial implications are further discussed in the light of these findings.

Understanding of turbulent flow in the reactor coolant pump (RCP) is a premise of the optimal design of the RCP. Flow structures in the RCP, in view of the specially devised spherical casing, are more complicated than those associated with conventional pumps. Hitherto, knowledge of the flow characteristics of the RCP has been far from sufficient. Research into the nonintrusive measurement of the internal flow of the RCP has rarely been reported. In the present study, flow measurement using particle image velocimetry is implemented to reveal flow features of the RCP model. Velocity and vorticity distributions in the diffuser and spherical casing are obtained. The results illuminate the complexity of the flows in the RCP. Near the lower end of the discharge nozzle, three-dimensional swirling flows and flow separation are evident. In the diffuser, the imparity of the velocity profile with respect to different axial cross sections is verified, and the velocity increases gradually from the shroud to the hub. In the casing, velocity distribution is nonuniform over the circumferential direction. Vortices shed consistently from the diffuser blade trailing edge. The experimental results lend sound support for the optimal design of the RCP and provide validation of relevant numerical algorithms. Abstract Tuberculosis is a serious, infectious, zoonotic disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Infections are transmitted in humans and livestock via aerosols. Rv1048c is a hypothetical unknown protein in the standard strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv. Rv1048c exists only in pathogenic Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is highly conserved; however its function is still unclear. The recombinant Mycobacterium smegmatis strain Ms_Rv1048c, with heterologous expression of the Rv1048c gene, was constructed by using the pMV261 expression plasmid. The biological characteristics of the recombinant bacteria were studied, such as their growth pattern, drug resistance, and virulence. Expression of Rv1048c significantly reduced the growth rate of the strain, enhanced its ability to form a biofilm, and reduced its tolerance to sodium dodecyl sulfate, H2O2, and various anti-tuberculosis drugs, and reduced the viability of infected RAW264.7 macrophages. Rv1048c also significantly reduced the level of early pro-inflammatory factors in infected RAW264.7 cells. Rv1048c protein is considered to be a virulence protein that might regulate the growth of M. tuberculosis strains. The results of the present study indicate that Rv1048c plays an important role in Mycobacterial infection.

Odor profiles of three grades of Jinhua, Xuanwei, and Rugao dry-cured hams were analyzed and distinguished by both the electronic nose and the sensory evaluation. The odor was absorbed by bamboo sticks, which is the most traditional absorption method to classify different ham grades. Then data from electronic nose was analyzed by discriminant function analysis (DFA) and cluster analysis (CA), compared with that from sensory evaluation by principal component analysis (PCA). Results showed that different grades of Jinhua, Xuanwei, and Rugao dry-cured hams could be distinguished effectively by the DFA results of electronic nose. However, sensory evaluation could not perform as well as electronic nose. It was demonstrated that intelligent sensory technology has higher sensitivity and reliability in classifying producing regions and grades of dry-cured ham.

Unsteady flow structures can lead to severe vibration in centrifugal pump if the eigenfrequency of the rotor is equal to excitation frequency. In order to reduce rotor-stator interaction in centrifugal pump, a special slope volute was proposed. This paper explores the use of numerical simulation method to illustrate unsteady pressure pulsation and rotating stall characteristics under 0.05Φ N –1.4Φ N working conditions. Spectrums of pressure pulsation signals at different flow rates were analyzed. Relative velocity distributions interior blade channels were also studied to clarify correlation between flow structure and pressure spectrum. At high flow rates, predominant components in pressure spectrums always correspond to blade passing frequency ( f BPF ). With decreasing of flow rate, partial flow separates from suction side of blade at 0.6Φ N , but the separate structure has little impact on pressure spectrum. From 0.8Φ N to 0.6Φ N , peak values in pressure spectrums are still located at f BPF . At rotating stall working conditions, multiple vortex structures exist in impeller, which develop with rotating impeller showing intensive unsteady properties. And partial blade channels are blocked severely. Due to the unsteady stall cell structure, stall frequencies are generated in pressure spectrum, and the excitation frequencies are different at variable flow rates.

Microalgae are a class of unicellular organisms capable of photosynthesis and are widely distributed in marine, freshwater, and other ecosystems, are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), astaxanthin, and β-carotene. Their unique properties, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer effects, make them attractive for medical applications. In addition to using microalgae extracts for the treatment of oral cancer, whole microalgae cells can be directly employed in the therapeutic process, paving the way for “photosynthetic therapy” in humans. Microalgae hold promise for innovative medical treatments, particularly in oral oncology and tissue regeneration.
