Background Antiretroviral therapy (ART)-related weight gain is of particular concern in people with HIV (PWH). Although weight gain was observed among PWH receiving tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), little is known about the potential reversibility after TAF discontinuation. We evaluated weight and metabolic changes 12 months after TAF discontinuation in the Swiss HIV Cohort Study. Methods We included participants who received at least 6 months of TAF-containing ART between January 2016 and March 2023. Using multivariable mixed-effect models, changes in weight and lipid levels were compared between individuals who continued TAF and those who switched to one of the following TAF-free regimens: (1) tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)-based ART, (2) dolutegravir/lamivudine (DTG/3TC), or (3) long-acting cabotegravir/rilpivirine (CAB/RPV). Results Of 6555 participants (median age 54 years, 24.3% female, 13% Black), 5485 (83.7%) continued, and 1070 (16.3%) stopped TAF. Overall, discontinuing TAF was associated with an adjusted mean weight change of −0.54 kg (95% confidence interval [CI] −.98 to −.11) after 12 months. In stratified analyses, switching from TAF to TDF led to an adjusted mean weight decrease of −1.84 kg (95% CI −2.72 to −.97), and to a decrease in mean total cholesterol (−0.44 mmol/L) and triglycerides (−0.38 mmol/L) after 12 months. Switching from TAF-based ART to DTG/3TC (−0.17 kg, 95% CI −.82 to.48) or long-acting CAB/RPV (−0.64 kg, 95% CI −2.16 to.89) did not lead to reductions in weight. Conclusions Replacing TAF with TDF in PWH led to a decrease in body weight and an improved lipid profile within 1 year. Weight changes were not observed among individuals who switched to DTG/3TC or long-acting CAB/RPV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We prepare static granular beds under gravity in different stationary states by tapping the system with pulsed excitations of controlled amplitude and duration. The macroscopic state---defined by the ensemble of static configurations explored by the system tap after tap---for a given tap intensity and duration is studied in terms of volume, V, and force moment tensor, \Sigma. In a previous paper [Pugnaloni et al., Phys. Rev. E 82, 050301(R) (2010)], we reported evidence supporting that such macroscopic states cannot be fully described by using only V or \Sigma, apart from the number of particles N. In this work, we present an analysis of the fluctuations of these variables that indicates that V and \Sigma may be sufficient to define the macroscopic states. Moreover, we show that only one of the invariants of \Sigma is necessary, since each component of \Sigma falls onto a master curve when plotted as a function of Tr(\Sigma). This implies that these granular assemblies have a common shape for the stress tensor, even though it does not correspond to the hydrostatic type. Although most results are obtained by molecular dynamics simulations, we present supporting experimental results., Comment: 13 pages, 14 figures

We analyze, experimentally and numerically, the steady states, obtained by tapping, of a 2D granular layer. Contrary to the usual assumption, we show that the reversible (steady state branch) of the density--acceleration curve is nonmonotonous. Accordingly, steady states with the same mean volume can be reached by tapping the system with very different intensities. Simulations of dissipative frictional disks show that equal volume steady states have different values of the force moment tensor. Additionally, we find that steady states of equal stress can be obtained by changing the duration of the taps; however, these states present distinct mean volumes. These results confirm previous speculations that the volume and the force moment tensor are both needed to describe univocally equilibrium states in static granular assemblies., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

- Abstract
BACKGROUND Integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) have been associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. We investigated the impact of starting INSTI-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) on CVD events among treatment-naïve people with human immunodeficiency virus using a target trial framework, which reduces the potential for confounding and selection bias. METHODS We included Swiss HIV Cohort Study participants who were ART-naïve after May 2008, when INSTIs became available in Switzerland. Individuals were categorized according to their first ART regimen (INSTI vs other ART) and were followed from ART start until the first of CVD event (myocardial infarction, stroke, or invasive cardiovascular procedure), loss to follow-up, death, or last cohort visit. We calculated hazard ratios and risk differences using pooled logistic regression models with inverse probability of treatment and censoring weights. RESULTS Of 5362 participants (median age 38 years, 21% women, 15% of African origin), 1837 (34.3%) started INSTI-based ART, and 3525 (65.7%) started other ART. Within 4.9 years (interquartile range, 2.4-7.4), 116 CVD events occurred. Starting INSTI-based ART was not associated with an increased risk for CVD events (adjusted hazard ratio, 0.80; 95% confidence interval [CI], .46-1.39). Adjusted risk differences between individuals who started INSTIs and those who started other ART were -0.17% (95% CI, -.37 to .19) after 1 year, -0.61% (-1.54 to 0.22) after 5 years, and -0.71% (-2.16 to 0.94) after 8 years. CONCLUSIONS In this target trial emulation, we found no difference in short- or long-term risk for CVD events between treatment-naïve people with human immunodeficiency virus who started INSTI-based ART and those on other ART.

Objective: To perform an external validation of the Dat'AIDS score for predicting 5‐year overall mortality among people with HIV (PWH) aged 60 years or older. Methods: This was a multi‐centre prospective cohort study at all sites participating in the Swiss HIV Cohort Study (SHCS). We calculated the Dat'AIDS score in PWH aged 60 years or older at their first visit between 1 January 2015 and 1 January 2020. People living with HIV‐2 and those whose Dat'AIDS score could not be calculated were excluded. Patients were followed until 1 January 2020. The primary endpoint was all‐cause mortality. Vital status was collected throughout the study period. We obtained population and score descriptive statistics and assessed the score's discrimination and calibration. Results: We included 2205 participants (82% male) of median [interquartile range (IQR)] age 62.0 (60.3–67.0) years, mostly with viraemia <50 copies/mL (92.7%). Median follow‐up time was 15.9 years and median (IQR) CD4 cell count at enrolment was 586 (420–782) cells/μL. In all, 152 deaths were recorded during a total follow‐up period of 7147 patient‐years. The median (IQR) observed Dat'AIDS score was 3 (0–8). Discriminative capacities were good as the C‐statistic was 0.73 (95% CI: 0.69–0.77) and consistent across all subgroups. Comparison of observed and expected survival probabilities showed good calibration. Conclusions: External validation of the Dat'AIDS score in patients aged 60 years or older showed that it could be a useful tool not only for research purposes, but also to identify older patients at a higher mortality risk and to tailor the most appropriate interventions. OBJECTIVE To examine neurocognitive course over time among people with well-treated HIV. DESIGN The Neurocognitive Assessment in the Metabolic and Aging Cohort (NAMACO) study is an ongoing, prospective, longitudinal, multicenter and multilingual study within the Swiss HIV Cohort Study (SHCS). Participants undergo neuropsychological assessment at baseline and two-yearly follow-up. SETTING Seven SHCS centers. SUBJECTS Patients aged ≥45 years enrolled in the SHCS with fluency in the local language (French, German or Italian) and agreeing to participate in the NAMACO study: 981 participants at baseline, 720 at two-year follow-up of whom 644 had complete data sets. INTERVENTION Standardized neuropsychological assessment at baseline and two-year follow-up. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Neurocognitive performance using Frascati criteria and mean z-scores. RESULTS Four participants (of 644, 0.6%) had plasma HIV-1 RNA > 50 copies/mL; median CD4 count was 660 cells/μL. According to Frascati criteria, 204 participants (31.7%) had neurocognitive impairment (NCI) at baseline. NCI severity in these participants changed little over two years and comprehensive models based on Frascati criteria were not feasible. Examining mean z-scores, however, we observed neurocognitive stability or improvement over two years in five of seven neurocognitive domains assessed. Age ≥65 years (p = 0.02) and cognitive complaints (p = 0.004) were associated with neurocognitive decline, while black race (p = 0.01) and dolutegravir treatment (p = 0.002) were associated with improvement. CONCLUSION Frascati criteria were less sensitive in measuring NCI change and therefore unsuitable for following neurocognitive course in our cohort of people with well-treated HIV. Examining neurocognitive course by mean z-score change, we observed stability or improvement.

Non-invasive biomedical measurements are one of the most important technological contributions whitin the biomedical engineering field. On this paper, a dual laboratory session student oriented is designed to simulate and implement a cardial signal monitor. During the first session, ORCAD PSpice software is used to simulate the whole process. The students can acquire knowledge on the process by configuring and running both the instrumentation amplifier and a passive filter to improve the signal quality. The second session requires from the student basic laboratory skills to use a specific printed circuit board (PCB) to measure its very own cardiac potential. As a result, from this session, the student can visualize the ECG signal acquired directly on the laboratory oscilloscope.

This work analyses which additional elements should be taken into consideration when one of this applications has to be integrated with a brain computer interface. Derived from this analysis a modular architecture is proposed, with an emphasis in aspects as the correctness of stimuli generation and production of time stamps for events under a common time-base.

- Abstract

Comparative Study; English Abstract; Journal Article; INTRODUCTION According to several series, hospital hyponutrition involves 30-50% of hospitalized patients. The high prevalence justifies the need for early detection from admission. There several classical screening tools that show important limitations in their systematic application in daily clinical practice. OBJECTIVES To analyze the relationship between hyponutrition, detected by our screening method, and mortality, hospital stay, or re-admissions. To analyze, as well, the relationship between hyponutrition and prescription of nutritional support. To compare different nutritional screening methods at admission on a random sample of hospitalized patients. Validation of the INFORNUT method for nutritional screening. MATERIAL AND METHODS In a previous phase from the study design, a retrospective analysis with data from the year 2003 was carried out in order to know the situation of hyponutrition in Virgen de la Victoria Hospital, at Malaga, gathering data from the MBDS (Minimal Basic Data Set), laboratory analysis of nutritional risk (FILNUT filter), and prescription of nutritional support. In the experimental phase, a cross-sectional cohort study was done with a random sample of 255 patients, on May of 2004. Anthropometrical study, Subjective Global Assessment (SGA), Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA), Nutritional Risk Screening (NRS), Gassull's method, CONUT and INFORNUT were done. The settings of the INFORNUT filter were: albumin < 3.5 g/dL, and/or total proteins

- Abstract
Background: Childhood and maternal mortality rates are formal indicators of health-care performance of a country. Venezuela's official data from the Ministry of health is not published continuously and opportunely since 2013, until the time of this publication. Objectives: Assessment of the last official report published from the Ministry of Health of Venezuela in regards to child and maternal health indicators for 2016. Comparing previously mentioned rates with member countries of the Pan-American Health Organization, and evaluate the health-related performance of the Millennium Development Goals. Methods: Health Impact Assessment study. Secondary data analysis of the 2016's epidemiological bulletin from the Ministry of Health of Venezuela, and Pan-American Health Organization 2016's Health Bulletin. Results: Infant mortality in Venezuela increased 30% in 2016 from 2015, maternal mortality rate increased around 40% within the same period. Venezuela's infant and maternal mortality rates are the higher rates within the region apart from Bolivia and Guyana. Vaccine preventable diseases and deficient basic public health interventions are the main causes of its increase. Conclusions: Venezuela's child and maternal mortality rates show a high increase in their numbers, which sets the country far from reaching the health-related goals of United Nations' Millennium Development Goals. In the video game industry, sound has been left behind with the massive graphic development produced in recent decades. This is due, in part, to technological innovations that increasingly bring the virtual field closer to reality (e.g. Ray Tracing), and to the availability of resources for research. However, for a video game to be immersive it is essential that the sound complement visuals, providing the player with a 3D experience. The main objective of this work has been to implement in C++ a 3D audio system based on HRTF filters, which allow us to understand the functioning of human auditory perception. This generates the creation of binaural audio samples, which allow the directionality of the sound to be simulated, giving the sound naturalness to in-game experience.

- Abstract
The initial idea of this project was the development of a device whose main aim was to support the care and attention of the elderly. Taking into account the vulnerability and isolation in which they are involved, in addition to the difficulties associated with their confinement and diseases, I decided to create a remote monitoring system in order to get the required basic environmental and biometric data, as well as, know their mood or if they need help. Trying to find a solution to the problems described above, it seems necessary to start with the development of a sensor system that takes care of collecting data and sending it out of the room for evaluation. The definition of IoT technology arises as a solution to the interconnection of sensors and sending data as the best option to develop the project. In addition, it will be used to act on some devices in the room as will be explained later. As part of the monitoring system, an application has been designed that reads the data from the measurements made by the sensors, and displays it on the screen. It also stores them in a database for further study if necessary. This application will show us the alarms that are generated when the values are outside of the previously established margins. During the development of the work, it has been added the possibility of configuring it for several isolated people in different rooms.

- Abstract
The main objective of this project is to develop an experimental platform for estimating the pose of a mobile system using multiple sensors based on artificial vision. The possibilities offered by this type of artificial vision system using low-cost components make it an attractive value for use in the field of robotics. The experiments carried out for the development have been carried out by comparing several sensors, to determine how they are similar or different interacting in the same environment. To do this, they capture the pose and orientation of a mobile platform, for which two sensors using artificial vision with different techniques are used: fiducial markers and a fixed camera.

The objective of this final degree project has been to create a landscape or external environment for a videogame prototype using procedural generation techniques. In this game, once the world has been created, the player can explore a wide terrain made up of mountains, trees, different types of vegetation and rocks. In addition, the environment created is unique, so when you recreate a terrain, it will not be repeated. In order to create this videogame, an existing video game engine is used, specifically the Unity engine, which greatly facilitates the creation of this terrain.

Augmented Reality is presented as one of the most impactful technologies in the classrooms in a very short period of time. This fact makes teachers see the need to begin to delve into the design of author materials, which allows us to adapt the technology to the needs that are presented to us every day in the classroom. For this reason, it is essential to perform studies to verify the advantages and disadvantages that are presented to us with the use of them, in order to optimize them and create really useful tools that make the most of the possibility of the technology of which we are making use. In the present Master's final dissertation, a qualitative research is performed with children of the 2nd Cycle of Early Childhood Education (5-6 years) framed in a first phase (of a much larger and more ambitious study) for the improvement of a prototype of RA created with the purpose of improving the acquisition of knowledge in this stage, concretely the relation of the Sun and the Earth. It should be noted that this prototype is based on a still experimental technology that combines two types of technical solutions to achieve RA La Realidad Aumentada se presenta como una de las tecnologías de mayor impacto en las aulas en un periodo muy corto de tiempo.

This Master’s dissertation focuses on the use of digital collaborative narrative as a tool for students’ skills development within the Spanish as a Foreign Language classroom. The research was based upon adult learners in an informal teaching context. The results displayed that the construction of a collaborative story using digital tools can be helpful for the development of the linguistic competence in the language classroom. Furthermore, it has been shown that working in cooperative groups has a meaningful impact on motivation and students’ involvement. Finally, the results highlighted that it also facilitates peer-to-peer learning and helps students to develop metalinguistic skills.

Food poisoning is a major Health Care issue. Health training and health information activities are two mechanisms available for preventing these illnesses. The purpose of this study is to evaluate if families and teachers would improve their knowledge using information and communication technologies as information tools. For this, a mobile application and a web space have been created in which relevant information has been described.
