Ze worden vooral gebruikt om (sport) activiteiten te registreren, maar ook steeds meer om sporters te ondersteunen. Hierdoor komen ook sportprofessionals ermee in aanraking. Maar wat moet er gebeuren om het gebruik en de inzet van apps onder sportprofessionals te vergroten?

Abstract

De auteurs gaan in dit artikel in op de mogelijkheden van innovatieve technologie in het stimuleren van sport en bewegen en het op maat aanpassen van beweegvriendelijke omgevingen in een stedelijke context. Ze concluderen dat laagdrempelige technologie zoals smartphone applicaties (apps) en wearables veelvuldig worden gebruikt door minder actieve lopers en door vrouwelijke lopers en dat app-gebruikers vaak jonger zijn. De auteurs zien deze mogelijkheden als veelbelovend, maar concluderen ook dat toekomstig onderzoek nodig is om korte- en langetermijneffecten van deze technologie te bevestigen.

40. A fast atom bombardment and field ionization/field desorption study of some isomeric unsaturated dicarboxylic acids.

Abstract

Geometrically isomeric dicarboxylic acids, such as maleic and fumaric acid and their methyl homologues, and the isomeric phthalic acids, have been investigated using fast atom bombardment, field ionization and field desorption mass spectrometry. The most intense peak in the positive ion fast atom bombardment spectra corresponds with the [M + H]+ ion. This ion, when derived from the E-acids, tragments either by successive loss of water and carbon monoxide or by elimination of carbon dioxide. In the case of the Z-acids only elimination of water from the [M + H]+ ions is observed to occur to a significant extent. The same is true for the [M + H]+ ions of the isomeric phthalic acids, that is the [M + H] ions derived from iso- and terephthalic acid exhibit more fragmentation than those of phthalic acid. All these acids undergo much less fragmentation upon field ionization, where not only abundant [M + H]+ ions, but also abundant [M]+· ions, are observed. Upon field desorption only the [M + H]+ and [M + Na]+ ions are observed under the measuring conditions. Negative ion fast atom bombardment spectra of the acids mentioned have also been recorded. In addition to the most abundant [MH]− ions relatively intense peaks are observed, which correspond with the [M]−˙ ions. The fragmentations observed for these ions appear to be quite different from those reported in an earlier electron impact study and in a recent atmospheric pressure ionization investigation. 41. Formation and structure of [C8H8O]+˙ ions, generated from gas phase ions of phenyl-cyclopropylcarbinol and 1-phenyl-1-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopropane.

Abstract

The structure and formation of [C8H8O]+. ions generated from phenylcyclopropylcarbinol and 1-phenyl-1-hydroxymethylcyclopropane upon electron impact, have been studied using kinetic energy release measurements, by determination of ionization and appearance energies and by collisional activation. It is shown that the non-decomposing [C8H8O]+˙ ions have exclusively the structure of the enol ion of phenylacetaldehyde, although it is less stable than the enol ion of acetophenone by about 45 kJ mol−1. This has been interpreted as an indication that the [C8H8O]+˙ ions from phenylcyclopropylcarbinol are formed by an attack of either the phenyl ring or the hydroxyl group upon the C-1C-2 (or C-1C-3) bond of the cyclopropane ring under a simultaneous expulsion of ethene and migration of the attacking group to the C-1 position. The [C8H8O]+˙ ion from 1-phenyl-1-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopropane is formed by opening of the cyclopropane ring via a benzylic cleavage. A kinetically controlled hydrogen shift in the resulting ring opened ion prior to or during ethene loss then leads to the formation of [C8H8O]+˙ ions which have the structure of the enol ion of phenylacetaldehyde. 46. Effects of oral administration of N-acetyl-L-cysteine: a multi-biomarker study in smokers

Abstract

N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) has been shown to exert cancer-protective mechanisms and effects in experimental models. We report here the results of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, Phase II chemoprevention trial with NAC in healthy smoking volunteers. The subjects were supplemented daily with 2 x 600 mg of oral tablets of NAC (n = 20) or placebo (n = 21) for a period of 6 months, and internal dose markers [plasma and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid cotinine, urine mutagenicity], biologically effective dose markers [smoking-related DNA adducts and hemoglobin (Hb) adducts], and biological response markers (micronuclei frequency and antioxidants scavenging capacity) were assessed at both pre- and postsupplementation times (T(0) and T(1), respectively). Overall, the internal dose markers remained unchanged at T(1) as compared with T(0) in both NAC and placebo groups. When quantifying the biologically effective dose markers, we observed an inhibitory effect of NAC toward the formation of lipophilic-DNA adducts (5.18 +/- 0.73 versus 4.08 +/- 1.03/10(8) nucleotides; mean +/- SE; P = 0.05) as well as of 7,8-dihydro-8-oxo-2'-deoxyguanosine adducts in BAL cells (3.9 +/- 0.6 versus 2.3 +/- 0.2/10(5) nucleotides; P = 0.003). There was no effect of NAC on the formation of lipophilic-DNA adducts in peripheral blood lymphocytes or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-DNA adducts in mouth floor/buccal mucosa cells or 4-aminobiphenyl-Hb adducts. Likewise, quantification of the biological response markers showed an inhibitory effect of NAC on the frequency of micronuclei in mouth floor and in soft palate cells (1.3 +/- 0.2 versus 0.9 +/- 0.2; P = 0.001) and a stimulating effect of NAC on plasma antioxidant scavenging capacity (393 +/- 14 versus 473 +/- 19 microM Trolox; P = 0.1) but not on BAL fluid antioxidant scavenging capacity. We conclude that NAC has the potential to impact upon tobacco smoke carcinogenicity in humans because it can modulate certain cancer-associated biomarkers in specific organs.
