The results from Phase III trials show that luliconazole 1% cream applied once daily for 2 weeks successfully resolved the clinical signs and symptoms as well as eradicated the pathologic fungi, which cause tinea pedis. A 1-week treatment with luliconazole 1% cream also produced favorable clinical and mycological results in clinical trials for tinea corporis and tinea cruris. Across trials, adverse events consisted mainly of localized reactions following application. The development of a new antifungal agent is timely due to mounting resistance among existing treatments. Because luliconazole requires a short duration of treatment, it may assist in reducing disease recurrence as a result of patient nonadherence. This study aims at investigating syllabic processes in deaf readers (n=35) who were compared to readers of French as a second language (n=23) and to expert readers (n=40). Two experimental tasks varying in their degree of phonological awareness were created: one awareness– task and one awareness+ task. Results show that all participants have knowledge related to some syllabic structures of written French. However, that knowledge is more evident in the awareness– task than in the awareness+ task. The difference between results on both tasks is greater in the deaf group than in second-language readers or the expert readers. These results are discussed in terms of complementarity of syllabic processes in reading and in relation to the status of French for deaf readers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using two different methods -- bar and community household sampling -- 159 Latino gay men were recruited in the city of Tucson, Arizona. In addition to demographics, the study questionnaire assessed participants' sexual activity during the last 30 days with primary and nonprimary partners, condom use in the last year, and eight psychosocial constructs that have been predictive of HIV risk in different studies of (mostly white) gay/bisexual men. Questionnaires were available only in English; this Latino sample is thus likely to overrepresent highly acculturated, English-speaking men. Results show that 22% of the sample engaged in unprotected anal intercourse with nonmonogamous partners during the last 30 days; 51% of the sample reported at least one instance of unprotected anal intercourse during the last year. Of those men who practiced any anal intercourse during the last 30 days, 67% practiced unprotected anal intercourse with primary partners and 44% practiced unprotected intercourse with casual partners. Thus, the majority of Latino gay men who practiced anal intercourse in the month prior to the interview were not using condoms. Men who practiced unprotected intercourse with nonmonogamous partners reported lower annual incomes and were less educated. Two cognitive variables (behavioral intentions and perceptions of self-efficacy and self-control) and two behavioral variables (sex under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and sex in public environments) emerged as the most important correlates of HIV risk. Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium chloride (THPC) and the product THPOH, made by reacting THPC with about one equivalent of sodium hydroxide, react with secondary amines to produce compounds with the structure (R2NCH2)3P and with primary amines to produce polymers containing the structure ["Multiple line equation(s) cannot be represented in ASCII text"] Both the compounds and polymers are oxidized to the corresponding phosphine oxides with hydrogen peroxide. Trimethylolmelamine (TMM) has been incorporated with tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium hydroxide (THPOH)-copper nitrate (Cu(NO3)2)-ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) solution and applied to cotton fabric. Although the flame-retardant finish produced by reacting the phosphine-copper complex with aqueous ammonia is very durable and effective at 13-17% add-ons, this study has shown that the amount of phosphorus needed in the flame-retardant finish can be reduced by increasing the nitrogen content with TMM. Cotton fabric with good flame retardancy and strength retention was obtained by using conventional pad-cure techniques for applying the solution. This has resulted in the use of lesser quantities of THPOH to produce a less expensive, durable flame-retardant finish for cotton. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
